With a revamped agent portal, big FAM and bonus commissions, HX is fully onboard with travel advisors
BY KATHRYN FOLLIOTT
TORONTO Getting ‘new kid on the block’ buzz when your brand’s origins date back 131 years is surprising, but also understandable, for HX.
The expedition cruise specialist rebranded from Hurtigruten Expeditions to HX just about a year ago, in September 2023. At the same time sister company Hurtigruten Norway streamlined its moniker to Hurtigruten, the same name as when it first launched in 1893.
With HX’s new name came a renewed look at what the company offers travel advisors, and their clients.
HX had more surprises in store in the coming months, hiring a blockbuster lineup of sales professionals in January 2024 to spearhead the company’s North American expansion. In the Canadian market, industry veterans including Carla Brake, HX’s Senior Sales Director, as well as Kent Phillips (BDM, Western Canada) and Ian Kivell (BDM, Eastern
Canada) have given HX a higher profile with the trade.
It’s great timing. Travel demand is still strong and interest in expedition cruises is soaring. Once in a lifetime travel? Maybe not so much anymore. For some travellers, expedition cruising is becoming a habit, not a one-off.
Sheralyn Berry, General Manager, Americas for HX, says HX has already seen a 15% increase in revenue from the Canadian submarket compared to the previous year, with significant increases in bookings – up 32% for Antarctica and 53% for the Galapagos.
“The Canadian market is one we truly want to engage more with,” Berry tells Travelweek.
Berry herself is no stranger to the Canadian travel industry. She joined HX just about a month after the rebrand was announced, bringing more than two decades of industry
experience including time with Contiki and G Adventures to her role.
“Expedition cruising has seen remarkable growth, particularly over the past half-decade, outpacing the overall cruise sector in both demand and capacity – a trend we expect to continue,” says Berry. “HX is at the forefront of this surge, offering journeys to over 250 destinations across more than 27 countries, from the poles to remote warmwater locations.”
In North America and Canada, Berry says HX’s top-selling destinations like the Galapagos and Antarctica are in high demand.
In the Galapagos, HX’s Santa Cruz II “stands out with 36 interconnecting cabins – the most of any vessel in the region – making it perfect for families,” she adds.
HX also offers immersive journeys to Alaska, Greenland, the Northwest Passage, and the High Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. Starting in 2025 HX will offer new routes in destinations including Svalbard. Meanwhile HX’s Northern Lights expeditions in Arctic Norway are brand new as of January 2026.
BONUS COMMISSION, SEPTEMBER FAM & MORE
HX is onboard with the trade in a big way.
From bonus commission offers, to a Sell 5, Sail Free incentive, to the
HXplore webinar series and more, HX is engaging with travel advisors across Canada like never before.
Recently the company relaunched its agent portal. A product training program on the portal is modulebased, in four parts.
In early September, HX will upload a new suite of marketing materials and B2B assets to the portal, including selling guides, destination packs and more. The portal will be used for HX booking creation, cruises and content (new and additional) and will display all active bookings.
The agent portal can be accessed at https://agentportal.travelhx.com/.
Earlier this year HX introduced a dedicated B2B Help Desk, operational from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. PST Monday to Friday. Agents can contact the Help Desk at 1-866-312-6791.
Speaking of bonus commission offers: HX has increased commissions to 25% on all Galapagos bookings through Dec. 31, 2024 for sailings scheduled now through Dec. 31, 2025.
Travel advisors will also get the full HX experience on the company’s largest-ever FAM this September. The exclusive two-day sailing for 300+ advisors on HX’s newest vessel, MS Fridtjof Nansen, will give advisors a deep-dive on expedition cruising through lectures, trainings and firsthand product experience. Advisors will be able to meet HX leadership, including new CEO, Gebhard Rainer.
ALL-INCLUSIVE
STARTING THIS OCTOBER
We asked Berry about the HX difference.
“Our expeditions are carefully designed to offer a deep connection with nature, culture, and science, from the Arctic’s pristine landscapes to the unique ecosystems of the Galapagos Islands and the remote beauty of Antarctica. Every voyage is led by our expert expedition teams, ensuring a balance of education, science, exploration, and wonder, with off-the-beaten-path activities like hiking, kayaking and wildlife watching,” says Berry.
She notes that onboard the ships passengers experience Scandinavianstyle luxury featuring modern design, plus world-class science centres where guests can engage in handson projects and a variety of citizen science activities.
Another key differentiator – starting in October – is that all HX voyages will be all-inclusive. “Everything from excursions to drinks is covered, ensuring a seamless and enriching journey for our guests, and a simpler booking and selling process for our agents.”

Berry also notes HX’s strategic partnership with Air Greenland. Starting in 2025, HX will fly guests directly into Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, debuting three new ‘Grand Greenland’ itineraries aboard the hybrid-battery-powered MS Fridtjof Nansen. Nuuk’s new larger airport is set to open this November.
She also wants agents to know that the suites on HX ships offer an immersive ‘experiential luxury’. Berry’s personal favourite feature about the suites? “The outside balconies, where you can watch icebergs float by your bedroom!”
And for any advisor who thinks they don’t have expedition cruise clients, Berry offers this tip: “There’s a bit of expedition in everyone, and at HX, we help your clients discover it at their own pace. This isn’t just a cruise, it’s a mindful, life-changing experience designed to awaken anyone’s inner explorer, offering adventures you won’t find anywhere else. Your clients will be back to book more.”
Riverside Luxury Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd
Cruises and Rovos Rail hit the road together for agent events
BY KATHRYN FOLLIOTT
VANCOUVER Travel advisors at recent luxury travel events in B.C. heard all the latest updates from not one, not two, but three high-end suppliers: Riverside Luxury Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and Rovos Rail.
In keeping with the ‘three-for-one’ theme, Travelweek connected with all three companies in the midst of the B.C. roadshow. Read on for the latest from Riverside Luxury Cruises’ Director of Sales, Canada, Peter Ouzounov; KAI’s Edith Beaudoin, who in May 2024 was named Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ dedicated National Sales Manager for North America; and KAI’s Brandon Appel, representing Rovos Rail.
Travelweek: What made you decide to team up for these events?
Ouzounov: “I’m really excited to team up with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and Rovos Rail for these fantastic and exclusive events. Each of our companies represents a unique facet of luxury travel – river cruising, ocean cruising and rail travel. This partnership is all about giving travel advisors a chance to learn about a broad spectrum of luxury travel experiences. It’s a great way to expand their portfolio and find new ways to wow their clients.”
Beaudoin: “While there is no official connection, each of the three provide guests with superior service and
an industry-leading F&B experience while on board. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Rovos Rail and Riverside Luxury Cruises represent the peak of luxury in their respective industry segment, and I believe a passenger that enjoys one would have an equally amazing experience while traveling with either of the other two.”
Appel: “Rovos Rail has a longstanding relationship with our cruising industry partners from all over the world. Our guests are likeminded travellers, and frequently combine their cruises with train journeys all over the world.”
Travelweek: What’s new with each of your companies that you’d like to put on the radar for Canadian travel advisors?
Ouzounov: “Riverside Luxury Cruises is making great strides in gaining
recognition in the travel world. I’m thrilled to share that we’ve been recognized in the 2024 Travel + Leisure’s World Best Awards for river cruising – a testament to the exceptional quality and experience we deliver in under a year of operation. This year, we also proudly launched our third ship, Riverside Debussy, expanding our fleet alongside Riverside Mozart and Riverside Ravel. Our all-inclusive luxury river cruises now cover the Rhine, Danube and Rhône rivers.
“Travel advisors will find plenty of benefits with us, too. We’re offering a generous 20% commission rate, and our 2025 itineraries are now open for booking. I welcome travel advisors to reach out to me and I will be happy to share more information how they can earn more and generate repeat business with Riverside Luxury
Cruises. Travel advisors can contact me at P.Ousounov@RiversideCruises.com. I also highly encourage travel advisors to go to www. Riverside-Cruises.com/TA to register and work with us.”
Beaudoin: “Something I find exceptional with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises in both the luxury and expedition segments – and while this may not be new, it is something that many people in our market are not aware of – are the innovative and unique itineraries we offer. That includes our Golf & Cruise exclusive packages in Australia, Europe or Central America, or going to remote places such as the polar regions, the Amazon and the Pacific Islands such as Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Some of our new itineraries are the Northern Lights in Scandinavia, or exploring Lapland in March 2025, and our very unique Circumnavigation Antarctica from Ushuaia to Christchurch.”
Appel: “Rovos Rail is celebrating our 35th anniversary and we have had a year filled with wonderful celebrations all over the world with our clients and partners.
“Rovos is a family-owned and operated company employing close to 500 employees and in turn their families and communities. This would not have been possible without our CEO, Rohan Vos, being single-mindedly determined to succeed 35 years ago when he purchased the first carriage. Today we have six trains with 21 carriages each. As of 2024, Rovos has 11 journeys travelling to nine Southern African countries seeing the best our beautiful continent has to offer.”
Travelweek: Is the luxury travel boom still going strong for each of you?
Ouzounov: “The luxury travel boom continues to thrive in Canada, and Canadians are increasingly recognizing the exceptional value of
luxury cruising. The appeal lies in the convenience and seamless experience we offer. Travel advisors can simply book their clients on one of our luxurious journeys and rest easy knowing they’ll enjoy impeccable service from the moment they arrive until their departure.”
Beaudoin: “Yes, the desire to travel, and travel well, continues to be at the top of many Canadians’ priority list. While Hapag-Lloyd Cruises (HLC) is more established in the European market, our bookings from North America continue to increase year on year.”
Appel: “Rovos has always had a strong footprint in the North American market with years of direct sales and shows. Admittedly our Canadian sales efforts have been the harder task with our new sales manager for this region, Armand du Plessis, planning extensive travel there in months to come. For any product updates, enquiries, commission, or contract related issues reach out to du Plessis at armand@rovos.co.za or +27 (0) 83 521 3373.
“We are seeing an uptake in the market with more enquiries coming in and with the support of our marketing company, Kartagener Associates (KAI), we hope to reach new heights in the coming months.”

AIRLINES
Air Canada says it acknowledges the result of Air Canada pilots’ vote in favour of a potential strike, should the company not reach an agreement through the ongoing negotiations with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). Air Canada confirmed that such a vote is a normal step in a negotiation process and does not mean that any disruption will take place. Air Canada also noted a strike cannot take place before the end of the current conciliation period, followed by a 21-day cooling-off period. In a statement Air Canada said it remains committed to the bargaining process.
Federal safety officials are requiring inspections of cockpit seats on Boeing 787 Dreamliners after one of the jets went into a dive when the captain’s seat lurched forward without warning and disconnected the plane’s autopilot system. Boeing also has stopped test flights of a new version of its 777 jetliner after discovering a damaged structural part between the engine and the rest of the plane. The new model has not yet been approved by regulators. The FAA said it will require operators of 787s to inspect both pilot seats for missing or cracked caps that cover a switch used to move the seats.

Sunwing Vacations debuts 2024-25 winter schedule
TORONTO Sunwing Vacations’ 20242025 winter schedule includes new additions Tulum, Camaguey-Santa Lucia and San Andres.
Sunwing’s Camaguey-Santa Lucia flights will operate out of Toronto and Montreal. Meanwhile both Tulum and San Andres will be available from Montreal.
All in all the program features flights from 24 airports across Canada to 27 sun destinations, plus 700+ hotels in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
Andrew Dawson, President of Sunwing Vacations Group, says popular vacation destinations throughout the tropics will return with Sunwing for another year around the sun in 2024-25, including Acapulco, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Plata, Cayo Largo (from Montreal and Quebec City), Costa Rica, Roatan and Freeport on Grand Bahama Island.
“As the leading vacation provider in the country, our commitment to providing travel advisors and their clients with accessible, affordable vacation options has remained
steadfast, and we are thrilled to introduce our initial winter lineup featuring more of the destinations our customers know and love, plus the exciting new additions of Tulum, Camaguey-Santa Lucia and San Andres, with direct flights starting as early as Nov. 2,” said Dawson.
He added: “We continue to see a growing demand for sun vacations, particularly for winter travel, and early bookings are already outpacing last year’s early booking figures. We’re excited to continue meeting that demand by offering vacation packages to a greater variety of sun destinations, and more flights on board Sunwing Airlines, with the added support of WestJet aircraft this winter season to enhance connectivity and service more customers across the country.
“With immense gratitude for the unwavering dedication of our travel advisor partners, we’re excited for Canadians to experience the value that an all inclusive vacation with Sunwing provides, and encourage customers to book their winter vacations sooner than later to ensure the most value for their money to their preferred destinations and resorts.”
Travel Leaders Network reveals key booking trends for 2025
ALEXANDRIA, VA Travel Leaders Network (TLN) has released the results of a comprehensive survey of its North American travel agency members, highlighting significant trends and growth opportunities for travel advisors.
The survey reveals an increase in luxury travel demand, a promising future for independent (FIT) travel, and a strong return on investments in lead generation and social media marketing.
LUXURY TRAVEL & CRUISES ON THE RISE
According to the survey, luxury and contemporary ocean cruises are the fastest-growing segments, with advisors expecting over 10% growth in these categories in 2025. In contrast, the premium cruise segment is projected to grow by only 5-10%. Additionally, river cruises are gaining popularity, with 38% of respondents anticipating sales growth of over 10%.
On the land side, FIT travel is set to be a significant focus for TLN members, with nearly 80% expecting to increase FIT sales by more than 5% in the coming year. However, growth in group travel appears more moderate, with only 40% forecasting over 5% growth. Sales for allinclusive resorts are softening, with half of the respondents predicting just 5-10% growth, and 38% expecting less than 5%.
TLN members are increasingly recognizing the importance of marketing, particularly through social media. The survey revealed that 40%
of respondents consider social media their most effective tool for driving new sales. To support this, Travel Leaders Network has introduced Social Share Pro, a tool designed to automate content sharing on social platforms.
Furthermore, travel advisors are planning to invest more in marketing and lead generation efforts in 2025, utilizing TLN’s engagement programs and Agent Profiler. The survey also highlights the growing interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), with all respondents indicating plans to incorporate AI into their operations, particularly in marketing communications, customer service, and profile optimization on Agent Profiler.
Roger Block, President of Travel Leaders Network, emphasized the importance of these findings: “Our survey provides valuable insights into the current focus areas for travel advisors and their expectations for the future. It’s clear that the tools and programs we’ve developed, such as Social Share Pro, Agent Profiler, and TobyAI, align with the needs of our members. Despite some challenges, travel advisors are optimistic about the opportunities ahead in 2025 and anticipate another successful year.”
With winter on the horizon, the ‘Pure Grenada’ experience beckons
TORONTO The Canadian market is ripe for growth to Grenada.
Grenada Tourism Authority CEO Petra Roach, along with GTA chairman Randall Dolland, joined Sekou Stroude, the GTA’s Director of Sales, Canada, at Toronto restaurant Sassafraz to share their message, and showcase their destination.
Marketed as ‘Pure Grenada: The Spice of the Caribbean’, the island is increasingly popular for Canadian sun seekers. It’s not a mass market destination, but “a boutique destination,” in the words of GTA chairman Dolland.
“It’s where you go to reconnect,” said Dolland. “It’s a destination that truly rejuvenates you. When you come back you have bragging rights. It’s truly unique.”
followed by the UK (14.7%) and the Caribbean (14.4%).
As Stroude noted, considering that Canada’s population is roughly onetenth of the U.S. population, Canada is more than holding its own.
Roach thanked Stoude for his work growing the Canadian market. “We’ve had a fantastic year so far,” she said, adding “we’re looking to invest more in the Canadian market.”
Some 13,000 Canadians travelled to the Spice Island in the first seven months of 2024.
NEW FLIGHTS
That number will no doubt climb even higher in the months to come, as the winter sun season gets underway.
Air Canada’s year-round weekly service from Toronto to Grenada increases to twice weekly in the winter months.
WestJet meanwhile will introduce new flights from Toronto to Grenada starting Nov. 3 and running through April 27.
OUR PROGRAMS ALIGN WITH THE NEEDS OF OUR MEMBERS
GRENADA’S 4TH LARGEST MARKET: CANADA
Canada is Grenada’s fourth largest market, delivering 10.8% of the island’s visitors. The U.S. sends 54% of Grenada’s visitors,
Roach added that Grenada poured lots of investment dollars into levelling up its attractions, and promoting its high-level culinary offering, to stay on the radar with increasingly discerning travellers.

CARRIACOU, PETITE MARTINIQUE RECOVERING FROM BERYL
In recent years Grenada has ramped up its tri-island marketing message, along with Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
The two smaller islands took a hard hit from Hurricane Beryl last month.
As Stroude told Travelweek recently, rebuilding efforts for Carriacou and Petite Martinique will take time. However Grenada’s main island “is fully operational and open for business, [and] visiting Grenada’s main island not only allows you to enjoy its beautiful attractions and vibrant culture but also supports the broader recovery efforts for our entire nation.”
Dolland said: “We have been through some challenging times, but we’re excited about what’s to come.”
SECOND UNDERWATER SCULPTURE PARK
There’s plenty on the horizon for firsttime or return visitors to Grenada.
The creator of Grenada’s iconic Underwater Sculpture Park will soon debut a second underwater park, called ‘A World Adrift’, off the northern coast of Carriacou.
Divers have long flocked to Grenada and the destination is set to become
even more of a draw for this market with not one but two underwater sculpture parks, plus many other dive sites.
RESORTS & ATTRACTIONS
New hotels on the island include Silversands Beach House, and Six Senses La Sagesse.
Asked about Sandals Grenada –can you believe it’s been 10 years since Sandals arrived in Grenada? – Stroude said the marketing power of Sandals Resorts has brought incredible visibility for the island, and many more visitors too.
Stroude told Travelweek: “The Pure Grenada experience beckons visitors to its 40 white sandy beaches including the world-famous Grand Anse Beach, 15 breathtaking waterfalls, six chocolate factories, four rum distilleries, and more than 30 unforgettable dive sites, including the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean ‘Bianca C’ and the World’s First Underwater Sculpture Park.”
Stoude added: “Thank you for investing in the Canadian market. We have a lot of Canadian travellers. Let them know Grenada is open for business, and spread the news about Grenada. And don’t forget, the people on the island are the spice. They make the island what it is.”
Save the date for special St. Maarten fam happening this December
TORONTO Travel advisors will want to save the date for a new fam cohosted by the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau (represented in Canada by VoX International) and Travelweek.
The Dec. 7 - 13 fam will offer the chance for participants to get to know St. Maarten from both land and sea – and visit two countries on one trip, thanks to the island’s dualnation representation by the Dutch and the French.
The fam will also showcase SXM’s high-end culinary scene, try the steepest zip line in the world (the Flying Dutchman) and give back to a local community project.
A key focus of the fam will be the St. Maarten Marathon, taking place Dec. 8. Participants can choose between the 5km or 10km distance. This is the third edition of the St. Maarten Marathon, a fun event hosted by the Sint Maarten Road Runners.
Rounding out the fam schedule are site inspections (including the brand new JW Marriott) and leisure time at the beach.
Cost is $499 all-inclusive, with accommodation in single occupancy rooms at Divi Little bay and the Sonesta Maho Resort.
Participation is open to 10 lucky travel professionals. Watch for more information in Travelweek Daily, Travelweek.ca and more starting Sept. 3, when registration officially opens.
Velas Ambassador Club program offers booking incentives for agents
PUERTO VALLARTA Velas Resorts has launched a travel advisor rewards program called Velas Ambassador Club.
The new program, in partnership with My Booking Rewards, allows agents to redeem cash bonuses via Visa or Amazon gift cards and accumulate points redeemable for complimentary stays at any Velas Resorts’ seven properties, in Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Riviera Maya.
Advisors in Canada and the U.S. can now log reservations at www. velasambassadorclub.com after booking direct or in their preferred partner platform to register for their rewards for additional benefits.
Advisors can also register weddings and social group bookings to receive exclusive additional benefits. Velas Resorts says it chose My Booking Rewards for its integrated online solution that fosters relationships by connecting advisors and suppliers.
THREE REWARD LEVELS
Velas Ambassador Club offers three certified rewards levels: Ambassador, Master and Elite.
Advisors begin as Level One Ambassador members upon logging between three and 59 room nights, receiving 1,000 welcome points and an inclusive day pass to Grand Velas
Nayarit or Velas Vallarta (valued at US$200).
Achieving the Master Level requires logging between 60 and 119 room nights, with advisors receiving a 1,500 points bonus.
Elite status is attained by logging 120 room nights or more, resulting in a 2,000 points bonus. At the Elite level, advisors receive up to 950 points per booking. Points can be used towards stays at any of the resorts, in-suite amenities, and more. Travel advisors also receive a bonus of up to $75 per booking.
In the new platform, advisors can also opt to complete a brief training program with video lessons and quizzes for each resort. Upon completion of the training program, the advisor will be provided with a coupon book with exclusive benefits for clients including room upgrades, spa discounts and VIP amenities.
TOP AGENTS WILL QUALIFY FOR TRIPS, INCENTIVE EVENTS AND MORE
On the Velas Ambassador Club site, group bookings for weddings and social groups are also supported. A minimum of 10 rooms for three nights qualifies for the travel advisor to earn up to an additional $500 cash bonus or a complimentary two night stay.
A new informational landing page (https://socialsavings.velasresorts. com) provides additional details on group inclusions, quotes, and a forum for questions.
With the new program Velas Resorts says it aims to further recognize and reward the hard work and dedication of the agents and advisors. Top agents will qualify for its FAM trips, the Velas Partner of the Year event and more.
While the program is currently only available to travel advisors in Canada and the U.S., in the near future, advisors from Latin America and Europe will also be able to register for Velas Ambassador Club with dedicated landing pages.

Intrepid Travel gears up for Blue Dragon Marathon Walk on Sept. 8
TORONTO Intrepid Travel’s annual charity event, the Blue Dragon Marathon Walk, is taking place Sunday, Sept. 8.
The event raises funds for Vietnam’s Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, a not-for-profit and longstanding Intrepid Foundation partner providing rescue care, shelter, legal advocacy and long-term support to victims of human trafficking.
The marathon walk is the Intrepid Foundation’s flagship fundraising event, bringing together over 1,000 people across major global cities like Toronto, London, Hanoi, Singapore and Melbourne. Participants can sign up to walk as an individual or as part of a team.
Eligible walkers will receive an entry into the drawer to win an Intrepid trip of their choice, valued at $3,200, for every $320 raised.
“Raising just $229 can keep a child at risk in school for one year. $320 can reunite a trafficked victim with their family and provide them with emergency support to start over,” said Intrepid Chair, Darrell Wade.
“By fundraising or sponsoring the Blue Dragon Marathon Walk, you can easily yet dramatically change the lives of children and families in need,” he added.
Vietnam was Intrepid’s top selling market in 2023, carrying 9,900 customers.
“A hugely popular international destination for Intrepid and the industry at large, Vietnamese communities have always welcomed us with open hearts and generous hospitality,” said Intrepid Foundation General Manager Biheng Zhang.
“Participating in or sponsoring the marathon walk is our chance as an industry and as travellers to give back,” noted Zhang.
Now in its seventh year, Intrepid has set an ambitious $459,000 fundraising target.
The company is inviting industry to gather their teams, sign up for a meander (3km), micro (5km), mini (10km), half (21km) or full (42km) marathon on the fundraising page, and join them on the pavement to empower young people in Vietnam. Fully 100% of donations will go directly to Blue Dragon.
The local walk in Toronto will start and finish at the Intrepid office, located at 215 Spadina Ave.

Celestyal announces some cancellations, changes for 2024-25 season
ATHENS Celestyal has cancelled several sailings due in part to unrest in the Red Sea.
First off, two 14-night repositioning cruises, ‘Ancient Athens to Dazzling Doha’ and ‘Dazzling Doha to Ancient Athens’, scheduled to depart Oct. 26, 2024 and March 8, 2025 respectively onboard Celestyal Journey, have been cancelled.
Celestyal’s Chief Commercial Officer Lee Haslett said the decision was made following the recent escalation of political unrest in the original path of passage via the Red Sea.
To uphold its commitment to the yearround program and ensure the success of Celestyal’s first Arabian Gulf season, Celestyal Journey will instead embark on a 34-night non-commercial repositioning cruise to and from Doha.
To accommodate the longer repositioning cruises, the first three scheduled ‘Desert Days’ itineraries, set to depart from Doha on Nov. 9, 16 and 23, 2024, will be cancelled.
On Celestyal Journey’s return to Europe, the first three 2025 ‘Heavenly Adriatic’ itineraries, set to depart on March 22, 29 and April 5, 2025, have also been cancelled.
Celestyal Journey’s maiden voyage in the Arabian Gulf will now be a slightly amended seven-night ‘Desert Days & Qatar Grand Prix’ cruise, sailing roundtrip from Doha departing Nov. 30, 2024.
This voyage will be in Doha port for the first three days to cover the Qatar Grand Prix, travelling onto an overnight in Dubai Marina and also calling at Khasab, Sir Bani Yas Island and Abu Dhabi. This voyage will be followed by a slightly amended sevennight ‘Desert Days & Abu Dhabi Grand Prix’ cruise, now sailing round trip from Dubai, departing Dec. 2, with a full day and late-night stay in Abu Dhabi on Dec. 8, to accommodate guests attending the Grand Prix race.
“We recently announced our full cruise program through March 2027 to build simplicity and assurance into our offering. In light of the current geopolitical climate in our original path of passage to this year’s winter season, we have decided to operate longer non-commercial repositioning sailings to and from Qatar. Celestyal Journey will continue to proudly homeport from Doha, Qatar from November 2024, for the next three winter seasons,” said Haslett.
“We apologize for the inconvenience that today’s cancellation of a small number of our itineraries may have caused. Our impacted guests have all
been offered alternative cruise options and/or reimbursement.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to our global yearround operation in the Greek islands, Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf, and would like to thank our valued guests and trade partners for their understanding and support. We look forward to welcoming our customers onboard Celestyal Journey for her inaugural Arabian Gulf season in late November this year,” he added.
Celestyal Journey’s inaugural Arabian Gulf season now comprises nine seven-night ‘Desert Days’ sailings departing between November 2024 and March 2025, with the option to embark in either Doha, Qatar, Abu Dhabi or Dubai, UAE. There are also the two special Grand Prix voyages, departing Nov. 30, sailing roundtrip from Doha, and Dec. 2 sailing roundtrip from Dubai.
Haslett said all affected passengers have been notified and provided with alternative cruises and reimbursement.
He added that all travel partners have been notified, assured protected commission and provided with updated information and guest rebooking options. All booking system changes will be updated over the next two weeks.
