PAIGE DAVIS IS BACK!
• Written By Heather Green • Photos provided by Discovery Channel 14 | triangle style
She’s sassy, she’s spunky, she’s stylish and she’s BACK! Paige Davis of the hit TLC show Trading Spaces has returned to television as the pretty and peppy host that everyone adores – and history is repeating itself as America’s Sweetheart is captivating audiences once again as the upbeat hostess with the most-ess of jawdropping home make-overs that started it all. So what DON’T you know about this effervescent emcee? To start, she’s used the same skin care for 20 years, HATES three things that many people love and (despite what most people think) has never, ever been a….(read on to find out!)
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE BACK WITH THE CAST AND CREW? It feels exactly the same - as if no time has passed. The legacy designers and carpenters are truly like family. They are very much like brothers and sisters to me. We tease each other that hard! We love each other that hard and we fell right back into the groove. WHAT HAS CHANGED IN YOUR LIFE SINCE THE LAST RUN OF TRADING SPACES? Not that much! Over the past 10 years I’ve continued to work steadily in home improvement television and on Broadway. I’m still happily married, living in my same apartment in NYC. And I’m still a mommy to an adorable Maltese, but now we have lil’ Georgie Girl because Sophie passed on about four years ago. HAVE YOU EVER FILMED IN OR VISITED NORTH CAROLINA? IF SO, WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR MEMORIES AND FAVORITES SPOTS HERE? I know we did film in North Carolina, but in all honesty I don’t recall the specific episodes. And so many long hours and nights are spent in the homes themselves, that sightseeing and experiencing the cities wasn’t usually in the cards. TS: Well, then you will have to come back so we can treat you to some of NC’s famous BBQ and sweet tea!

CAN YOU SHARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE STYLE SECRETS? The number one style secret is to wear clothes you LOVE and that FIT!!!! A proper fit is key. Almost every time I’ve hated how I’ve looked in something I can attribute it to the piece being too big or too small, too long or too short, too loose or too tight.

WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY REGIME LIKE? ANY SPECIFIC PRODUCTS THAT YOU SIMPLY CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT? I have a relatively simple beauty regimen. Cleanser, toner, eye cream, moisturizer in the morning. Cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum, moisturizer at night. I have used Arbonne for over 20 years. But I also love Roden & Fields. And floss! I always floss. There are many times I crash without washing my face, but I always floss my teeth. And the makeup product I simply cannot live without is mascara. I also think a good blow out can never be over-rated. ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL MOMENTS THAT STAND OUT TO YOU ON SET? ANY BEHIND THE SCENES BLOOPERS THAT YOU CAN SHARE? I vividly remember and think about our first Executive Producer everyday that I’m on set. God rest her soul. She died quite suddenly of a brain aneurysm a few years ago. She always had us laughing!!! One time a huge group of us were out to dinner — cast, crew, network peeps — and she said something so funny that one of our associate producers accidentally did a spit take right into her face — essentially spitting on his boss. Silence, as we waited to see how she’d react. Without missing a beat she came back with a retort that had us on the floor laughing. She dryly said, “Ooooh Kevin, everyone’s gotta have a last day.” It became an ongoing inside joke that remains to this day. She would be LOVING this reboot, by the way. She’d be totally loving it!
WHOSE DECORATING STYLE DO YOU IDENTIFY WITH THE MOST OUT OF EVERYONE ON THE SHOW? Hildi, Genevieve, and Doug turn out the rooms I tend to identify with the most. ARE YOU INVOLVED WITH ANY CHARITIES? ANYTHING COMING UP THIS YEAR? I have served on the board of directors for Volunteers of America for over 10 years. I helped grow their program called Operation Backpack which collects and distributes new backpacks filled with new, grade-specific school supplies to the 22,000 children in NYC’s homeless shelter system. I also volunteer at a soup kitchen on Saturday mornings. And coming up this month I will be participating in a Broadway Spelling Bee to raise money for a marvelous youth theater program called Broadway Bound Kids. If you want to donate I’d be ecstatic: crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/paige-davis-chicago
IF YOU HAD THREE WISHES, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? Aw, this is the worst kind of question! I mean, duh, of course world peace, health for my family, and prosperity for all. What else is there, really? I’ll tell you...A live-in masseuse, a live-in cook, and a live-in cleaning person. LOL! TELL US THREE THINGS ABOUT PAIGE DAVIS THAT NO ONE WOULD EXPECT? One: I’m pretty lazy. On any given day, I’d prefer to sit around and watch TV over than do just about anything else. Two: I was never a cheerleader. I am a figurative one only. I’ve never donned a real uniform. Three: I detest three specific things that most people love: black pepper, rosemary, and lavender. ••• Catch Paige on Trading Spaces on TLC every Saturday at 8pm and for more information about Paige, visit PaigeDavis.com.

ROAD TESTED | REVIEWS Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara
Coconut DO! You read it right! And yes, I had to do a double take when I discovered this sweet smelling treat in a tube too. But this “blackest black”, coconut scented mascara is the bomb dot com! I HATE a mascara that dries out my lashes when I leave it on overnight and this one does not! It also doesn’t smudge like others that I’ve used – another plus! Throw in that this eye magic smells pretty darn close to a coconut and you’ve got a home run. Just slightly more expensive than my usual mascara, it’s worth the couple of extra dollars – this is a definite do! (Available at Ulta and Walgreens for around $10)
Coconuts Well, hello there summertime! As usual, the triple digits snuck up on us again and with the sun, sand and surf hot on our minds, come the smellicious new products too. Who DOESN’T adore the fresh and fragrant smell of anything coconut?!? From skin care to snackery, advertisers have been putting in overtime this season, marketing these incredible items – read on to find out what’s hot and what’s not! — Heather Green
Creative Snacks – Organic Coconut Snacks
Coconut DO and DO and DO again! I like my snacks and when I need a little something sweet in the summer heat, I don’t want a thick, heavy, overly sugary treat – enter this palette pleaser! Now, if you don’t like coconut, take a hard pass on this snack. If you like a light, healthy, good tasting snack – you’ve hit the jackpot. It’s actually organic AND healthy AND tasty, so win-win-win. I carry this around in my car (it actually tastes really good warm!) There are two options, but I like the one with cranberries best - for the sweetness. It’s like trail mix with a hip twist! (Available at most grocery stores for around $3.50) 24 | triangle style
INTENSIFY YOUR
SUMMER
SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Leave-In Treatment
Coconut CAREFULLY DO! Yes! It works and it is ORGANIC (which I L-O-V-E!). Yeah, it’s pricey, but you truly do not need to use a lot. (I repeat, use sparingly unless you LIKE the oily haired look!) And also yep, it smells very strong – which is going to be a turn-off to some sensitive smellers out there. Overall, I like everything about this natural detangler except the smell! (Available at Target for $11.99)
SIZZLE YOUR OWN CUSTOMIZED SEASON APPROPRIATE COLOR FOR BODY, LEGS AND FACE LASTS UP TO 10 DAYS!
Kopari Coconut Power Couple
Coconut DO – (but not EVERYday!) Both are amazing products and really do smooth out skin (not to mention smell PHENOMENAL) but for the price, you’ll need more to use ALL over. Go easy on the scrub the first few times, as it can be slightly sandpapery on those sensitive areas. The balm is thick! So a little goes a long way! I recommend mixing the scrub with a dab of water (just to make it last) and use about half of what you THINK you’ll need when it comes to the balm. Another DO, with a disclaimer. (Available at Kopari.com and Sephora for around $55)

FOR YOUR SHAPE
Fantasie : Ottawa Scoop Neck Tankini with midrise bikini bottoms ÂThe Bra Patch, Raleigh
28 | triangle style
Summer is upon us, and like it or not, that often means a trip to the beach or, at the very least, lazing around the pool. For some, the idea of throwing off their clothes and parading round in an outfit not big enough to blow your nose on is their idea of heaven. For those of us not built like Gisele Bundchen it can be an uncomfortable situation. The trick to making yourself feel happy to strip off is dressing to your shape. Let’s face it, we try to do it with our normal clothes, so why not apply the same, or similar, rules to swimsuit dressing?
LONG TORSO If you don’t want to wear a specially made longer swimsuit that will fit your long body, there are ways around it: Any one-piece swimsuit with a belt or some sort of detail in the waist area will cut your middle in two making it appear less long than it is. Similarly, cut outs in a swimsuit will break up the length. Try a tankini with high-cut bottoms. As with the one-pieces above, the break in the middle will give your body proportion. SHORT TORSO Wearing the wrong swimsuit when your torso isn’t very long can make you look stocky and rather shapeless. Try showing more skin on your midriff to create length—so a tankini with a shorter top and low rider bottoms, or a bikini with bottoms that sit low on the hips. Alternatively, try a solid color on the tankini bottoms and a top with a print to draw the eyes upwards. If you’re not happy with a two-piece, try a one-piece with a plunging neckline or something with vertical stripes. PEAR-SHAPED The big trick for those of us who are bigger below than on-top is to draw the eye upwards. Try to find a bikini or one-piece swimsuit with fancy prints or detailing around the bust, preferably with a darker bottom half or one with large prints. Additionally, halter tops or bra sections that are underwire or padded will accentuate your top half. For your lower half, a high-cut leg will lengthen your legs and have a slimming effect. If your hips are the problem and you just want to cover up, stick to darker boy shorts, which will provide much more coverage – a word of warning, avoid these if it’s your bottom that’s the problem. BOY-SHAPED Some may say you’ve got nothing to worry about, but we’d all like to look a little curvy in a swimsuit. In complete contrast to the section above, you want to draw all eyes to your hips. Try horizontal stripes, they fool the eye into thinking your hips are wider than they actually are. Tie-sides also accentuate curves, as do swimsuits with cutouts at the waist. Stick to brighter, lighter patterns. Floral prints, as well as being pretty and very now, will give you more width. Avoid dark colors.

BIG CHESTED It might be tempting to try to completely hide your big bust but that’s not particularly comfortable. Try a halter top or at least underwiring – you need support and lift even on the beach. As with big hips, a darker top half will divert attention to another area, and if you’ve got a good lower half, consider something with a skirt. Avoid horizontal stripes and try to go for vertical striping or large prints up top. Be proud of your cleavage – go for a V or plunge neck. It will make you look leaner and longer but show off what you’ve got in a flattering way. Avoid triangle tops like the plague! SMALL CHESTED There’s not much chance of hiding a small bust in a swimsuit, but there are things you can do. Of course, you have the advantage of wearing string bikinis without fear of spillage, but what are your other options? Try push-ups, underwiring or padding to help give you cleavage. Any detail around the bust will give you the illusion of having more up there – try horizontal stripes, smocking or ruffles. Ruching is another great way of making it look like there’s more going on up there than there really is. A one-piece swimsuit with cut-outs will give you curves--but avoid dark colors, as they will make you look flat. TUMMY ISSUES It can feel like there’s no hiding a big tummy in a swimsuit, but there ARE things you can do to minimize it. It’s really all about adding distraction, so side shirring and ruching are perfect. If you like patterns go for diagonal lines--chevrons, large floral prints and dark side panels that will make you look instantly slimmer. Alternatively, you could try a swimsuit with hidden control panels that will hold you in. If you want to go for a two-piece, a tankini is a great option as long as the top is long enough to cover your tummy. PLUS SIZE Don’t think that beachwear for a plus size lady automatically means covering up in a muumuu. Why not make the most of your curves by choosing something fitted and waist defining that will accentuate your figure? Lycra and spandex are the plus size lady’s friend and should give you a certain amount of control. Try to pick a high cut leg to lengthen your body, or a tankini with a brightly colored top and dark bottoms. Alternatively, a little skirt can hide a multitude of signs without making you look self-conscious. •••
SPOTLIGHT | SKIN + TONIC have done this alone - we might have been the people that just thought about it and talked about it, but never did it. There is something special about the power of two, and we complement each other in very specific ways and at different times. Lori is a researcher, well thought out and takes her time making all the operational decisions, while Robin handles all the creative aspects of running the business. We’re sort of a cross between being friends and being sisters, where we can just read the expressions on the others “face without a word, and we respect the other’s opinion immensely.
HOW DID SKIN & TONIC COME ABOUT?
For These Two BFFs Business Is A Thing Of Beauty
Twenty years ago, two BFFs decided to break into the beauty biz. TSM caught up with Robin Deresh & Lori Kreipl of Skin and Tonic in North Raleigh to chat about their stunning success!
HOW DID YOU MEET AND WHAT WAS YOUR BONDING MOMENT? We met in 1998 when we
were both hired at the same spa. Overwhelmed and starting a new career, we were in the same boat. We grabbed lunch one day and that was it. Back in that first year of working together we talked about being our own boss and how we would do it “this way” or “that way” - we shared that mentality.
HOW IMPORTANT HAS YOUR FRIENDSHIP BECOME, AND HOW HAS IT LED YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY? In the big picture, this
will be one of the most important relationships of our lives. We have worked side by side for 20 years and because of that trust and friendship, we get to walk in this building everyday and create something magical together. We’re not sure either of us would — Audrey D. Mark
32 | triangle style
It was always in the back of our minds, but it was scary, intimidating, and ultimately it was about timing. Something has to push you and when the time came, we were just ready. We were ready to be our own bosses and we knew we could do it better. There’s also a part of anyone who starts a business that just hates following the rules that other people set. We had gone to a tradeshow and heard about an available space and started small, in one tiny room. We shared one room until we had enough money to buy another bed and just worked as hard as we could. We stayed there nine years, which is about eight years longer than we thought we would. We built our business on word of mouth referrals, without loans or debt and we’re really proud of that. To this day, we’ve never taken out a loan. Having a business can be stressful enough, we didn’t want to add debt to it or put our energy there. Four years ago we got to customize the space that is Skin & Tonic and it is everything we imagined from those early days of daydreaming.
WHAT REALLY SETS YOUR SPA APART? Skin
& Tonic is a boutique skin care studio, and I think you can tell from our name that we wanted it to feel charming and inviting. We offer facials, waxing, peels, micro current, microdermabrasion and tinting in a clean, comfortable environment with highly skilled estheticians. While you can always come in to treat yourself to a facial for relaxation, our clients predominantly are in to see their skin change and come to us on a very regular basis. We work with acne clients, hyper pigmentation, dullness, and thanks to modern technology we have tools to lift and tighten skin.
(Shout out to our NUFACE micro current treatments.) We really believe in the importance of touch based treatments, and in this day and age where everyone wants a magic injection, we’re happy to offer an alternative. We constantly get girls in their 30’s coming in telling us that their friends are all getting injectables but they just don’t want to do it and we’re here to tell them its okay. Nothing against injectables if its for you, but there is a whole spectrum of quality skincare products and treatments that are non-invasive and the basics of skincare haven’t changed in the 20 years we’ve been doing this because they still hold true. Lots of our clients get different procedures, but they need us to help with their day to day routine and the health of their skin.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS, AND CHALLENGES, OF WORKING SO CLOSELY WITH YOUR BFF?
The benefits are definitely that we can read each other, and we don’t have to sugarcoat things. If two friends decide to go into business together, yes that can be a challenge, but we met working together. The basis of our friendship IS work. We already knew we had the same work ethic and future goals. We got facials from each other, took classes together so we would have seen each others weaknesses pretty early on. You definitely spend A LOT of time together running a business, so you had better enjoy each others company or I would imagine it would be unmanageable and your staff would feel that energy.
DOES KNOWING THAT YOUR PARTNER HAS YOUR BACK HELP YOU TAKE CHANCES AND GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE TO DO MORE THAN YOU MIGHT DO ON YOUR OWN?
DEFINITELY! We hear that all the time from other business owners we know, “so lucky you guys have each other” and we know it! We believe in the power of two, and the idea that we’re in this together. Having someone to bounce ideas off of, to tell you to go home when your eyes are bloodshot and to laugh with everyday is invaluable. We consider ourselves so lucky to get to do a job we love, surrounded by people we chose, products we picked, with amazing clients in a space we built. We never take that for granted. •••
WE’RE AESTHETICIANS, FRIENDS, COHORTS WITH A PASSION FOR PRETTY AND OVER TWENTY YEARS ESTHETIC EXPERIENCE. IF YOUR BROWS ARE BRINGING YOU DOWN, OR YOU’RE WALKING THE STREETS WITHOUT YOUR USUAL GLOW, WE'RE CALLING OUT TO YOU. WE WON'T ASK FOR PICTURES, OR SOB STORIES OF PAST FACIALS.
JUST KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT ALL RIGHT. TIL WE MEET…..

Hi Anna, I have been self-conscious of my stretch marks for years, with swimsuit season upon me, I was wondering what the best kind of treatment (and quickest) for minimizing their appearance, or if possible remove completely. — Rebecca Rebecca, stretch marks are something that so many women can relate to-- they’re extremely common and nothing to be self-conscious about! Also known as striae, stretch marks form when skin is stretched too quickly, such as during puberty, pregnancy, a rapid growth spurt or period of weight gain. The good news is that non-invasive treatments can drastically improve their appearance, and I’ve found that INTRAcel RF Microneedling is the best technology to address stretch marks, among other common skin concerns such as wrinkles, acne scarring, laxity, and overall texture. INTRAcel features 49 insulated needles and works by creating microchannels in the skin, which then stimulates your body’s natural wound healing response. The result is firmer, fuller skin, and the addition of Radio Frequency technology allows for deep heat penetration into the layers of the skin where collagen production takes place. The best part about INTRAcel is that with a topical anesthetic or Pro-Nox inhalable nitrous oxide, treatment is pain-free with minimal downtime, so you can get back to your plans right after. For the best results, you’ll probably need multiple treatments to help get you looking and feeling your best just in time to rock your swimsuit! Anna Churchill is the founder of Synergy Spa & Aesthetics with two locations in Raleigh. She also teaches corrective makeup and innovative skin care to dermatologists, plastic surgeons, aestheticians, and spa owners worldwide. Email your questions to askanna@trianglestyle.com

MOTHER MAY I? What we wear says a lot about us. So what does it mean to wear one of the SoulKu necklaces we carry in our boutique? It says you get it from your mama! Well, maybe not your own mom but from another mother just around the corner. As a family-owned business ourselves, we really strive to support other local businesses too so when we found SoulKu––a handcrafted jewelry company based out of Asheville founded by stay-at-home moms who started their company to celebrate, inspire, connect and empower themselves and other moms like them––we thought it was a perfect fit. Each piece of jewelry is made with intention and contains one or more gemstone focusing on a healing property. Every one is signed and sealed with love by the mama-maker. NO GLASSES, NO DAYTIME CONTACT LENSES, NO SURGERY. JUST AWESOME VISION. Discover the non-surgical solution for 20/20 vision. If you’re not a candidate for LASIK or don’t want eye surgery, ask about REVS — a way to change your eyesight overnight. What is REVS? Refractive Epithelial Vision Shaping (REVS) is a process of using lenses, called retainers, that you wear while you sleep. You might also hear it called orthokeratology. Just like the retainer you wear after braces for your teeth, these lenses gently reshape the top layer of your cornea so you can be free of glasses and contacts during the day. REVS can be used to correct nearsightedness, astigmatism, and works for people of all ages, including children. Wake up with perfect eyesight. For All Your Summer Needs
THE MOUNTAINS
EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT ASHEVILLE This city has something for everybody, including the outdoorsman (or woman!), foodie, art lover, and history buff in your family. If there’s one thing this area’s known for, it’s whitewater rafting. Check out the French Broad River rafting trips offered by the Nantahala Outdoor Center of Asheville, a 30-minute drive from most lodging in the city. Splashes from the Class II and Class III rapids will keep you cool as your journey down the river learning about Asheville’s history and wildlife. If you’re lucky, you can even take a dip in the river! IF A HIKING ADVENTURE is what you’re after, a breathtaking view awaits you at Looking Glass Rock. Drive an hour south to Pisgah National Forest for an invigorating hike followed by a picnic lunch on the flat-topped rock. And be sure to make time to visit the Biltmore Estate. Built by the Vanderbilt family who made their fortune in shipping in the 1800s, the Biltmore offers the perfect intersection of history, architecture, and art (did we mention they have paintings by Sargent and Renoir?). Of course, when you’re back in Asheville, there’s plenty to do as well. Start your morning at Double D’s Coffee and Desserts, an actual double-decker bus turned into a cafe. Only in Asheville! When it’s dinnertime, grab a bite and a pint at one of the craft breweries Asheville is famous for — and they have the craziest names, like Wicked Weed Brewing Pub, Burial Beer Co., and of course, legendary Green Man Brewery. We have a feeling that after spending time at one of these breweries, you won’t want the night to end, so head to the nearest music joint (like Isis Music Hall or Diana Wortham Theatre) to hear jazz, bluegrass, or whatever local band strikes your fancy.

HIGHLANDS: A HIDDEN GEM Below Asheville and right above the South Carolina line, you’ll find Highlands (population: 924). The town may be small, but it’s making a name for itself as a great place to visit, summer or winter. It’s home to the Highlands Country Club and golf course, charming downtown with antique shops and more, and eateries from the upscale Ristorante Paoletti to the casual Ugly Dog Public House. For a memorable hike, try Whitewater Falls. It’s a mere 0.6 miles round trip, but you’ll want to take your time enjoying the highest waterfall in the eastern United States. Pack a picnic and a swimsuit for lunch in the shade and a splash in the natural pools.

If you love cars, you’ll want to be in Highlands from June 7 to 10 for the Motoring Festival, which includes a classic car show on June 9 at Kelsey-Hutchinson Park. If theatre is more your style, check out the Highlands Playhouse, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year! It will offer the musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” from June 28 to July 14 and baseball riot “Damn Yankees” from July 19 to August 4. BONUS IDEA: Did you see “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” that came out last fall? The film is about a mother searching for justice for her murdered daughter, and it earned Frances McDormand, who plays mother Mildred Hayes, an Oscar this year. “Three Billboards” was filmed in Sylva, North Carolina, located an hour north of Highlands. Watch the movie and then spend a day wandering its downtown and taking in sights like Sassy Frass, the decor store that became Ebbing police headquarters, and the “Welcome to Ebbing, Missouri” sign at Sylva Convenient Market & General Store.
THE COAST
IF YOU HAVEN’T VISITED WILMINGTON RECENTLY, YOU NEED TO. Even if you only have a long weekend, that’s the perfect amount of time to get acquainted with this eclectic city. And you have plenty of
options when it comes to lodging, from bed and breakfasts to boutique inns to more conventional hotels. Spend Day 1 soaking up the sunshine on Kure, Carolina, or Wrightsville Beach. Then wash the sand off your feet and head to a seafood spot like Gibby’s Dock & Dine at Carolina Beach. On Day 2, you’ll want to take in the history that Wilmington’s famous for, including the Battleship North Carolina. It’s an authentically restored World War II vessel that you can explore 365 days a year. Tickets are $14 for adults and discounted for children and seniors (guided tours are available starting at an additional $8 per person). Keep the history theme going by taking a tour of beautiful Wilmington! There’s a Historic Homes Tour, a walking tour of Old Wilmington, and even the Wilmington Trolley Company’s sightseeing excursion. The museum offering in Wilmington is rich as well — you’ll have a hard time picking which to visit first: the North Carolina Maritime Museum, North Carolina Military Museum, or Wilmington Railroad Museum. Make Day 3 all about relaxation, exploring downtown Wilmington and its many art galleries, breweries, and unique specialty shops like A Christmas Shoppe, Cape Fear Spice Merchants, and the Edge of Urge. End your vacation with a walk on the beach at sunset and return home with salt in your hair and a spring in your step. IMMERSE YOURSELF IN HISTORY IN ELIZABETH CITY. When most people are heading southeast for summer vacation, head to North Carolina’s upper coast and relax at a cozy B&B like Foreman House Bed and Breakfast or the Pond House Inn. From one of these historic homes, you’ll have the perfect launchpad for days full of good food, family time, and, of course, learning along Albermarle Sound!

You can’t go to Elizabeth City without catching a performance of “The Lost Colony,” which tells the story of the mysterious disappearance of English settlers on Roanoke Island. It’s the nation’s longest-running outdoor play. “The Lost Colony” is an epic drama in which you’ll meet historical characters like Queen Elizabeth I, Virginia Dare, and Manteo. During the day, there’s no shortage of activities. Kids will love Port Discover, where they become scientists learning about fitness, marine life, and more. There’s even Tot Spot for the toddlers! Adults will enjoy Arts of the Albermarle, which is open Monday through Saturday but is especially great to visit on the first Friday of each month when Elizabeth City has its Art Walk. Elizabeth City has plenty of culinary offerings, too. The Cypress Creek grill near the Pasquotank River waterfront will be sure to give you your seafood fix, as will hidden gem C&H Oyster Bar.
IF A “STAYCATION IS MORE YOUR SPEED TRY AN OVERNIGHT OR DAY TRIP TO DURHAM. A captivating show at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) can be the focal point of a trip that includes plenty of good food. Explore downtown Durham and its unique shops like The ZEN Succulent and Dolly’s Vintage, or check out works by up-and-coming artists at Pleiades Gallery. If you’re all dressed up for your night on the town, you’ll want to go to Nana’s Restaurant, which has been a hot spot since it opened in 1992. (That basically makes Nana’s 100 years old in restaurant years.) If you want a more casual eatery, try Bull City Burger and Brewery. After all, you can’t go wrong with a cheeseburger! DPAC has lots of exciting summer shows, like Pilobolus (a favorite of Durham’s American Dance Festival) on June 21 to 23, Jill Scott on July 10, Indigo Girls on July 18, and “The Book of Mormon” on August 7 to 12.

To make this an overnight affair, book your stay with one of Durham’s swanky boutique hotels. The Durham Hotel has a mid-century theme as well as a restaurant run by James Beard Awardwinning chef Andrea Reusing. A few blocks away is 21c Museum Hotel, a bank turned into a combination art gallery/hotel/restaurant (in keeping with the bank theme, the restaurant is called Counting House). YOU’VE HEARD OF CHAPEL HILL. NOW GET TO KNOW ITS COUSIN CARRBORO. Carrboro is a laid-back little town to spend a day in. Drive down Chapel Hill’s Franklin Street and you’ll find hit Carrboro with its plethora of record stores, eateries, and Weaver Street Market, a natural foods store famous in its own right. Carrboro’s the perfect home base as you explore the area around the University of North CarolinaChapel Hill. Perhaps you’ll catch a show at Morehead Planetarium and then take a stroll through Coker Arboretum, or head to Chapel Hill’s Carolina Inn for Fridays on the Front Porch. Enjoy local music for free on the Carolina Inn’s lawn a grab dinner from one of the many food trucks that parks nearby. A few other spots to check out in Carrboro: have you really gotten to know a North Carolina town if you haven’t been to one of their barbecue joints? Try CrossTies Barbecue and enjoy your BBQ in a dining room that’s actually a vintage railcar where the Carrboro Railways Station once was. Traveling can be one of the best parts of life. It can also be one of the biggest nightmares when you aren't prepared. Try some of these basic travel hacks and reduce the stress before, during, and after your adventures. — Julie Dees
Travel Hacks For A Stress-free Journey Before you go
Make copies of your travel documents/reservations, itinerary, identifica ion, credit cards, etc. Leave a copy with a trusted person at home and email yourself copies of each. You might also consider saving the documents to your phone so you have proof always with you. Contact your credit card and cell phone providers in advance. You'll want to be sure your credit card company and bank are aware of your traveling. You don't want them to put a stop on your cards. Cell phone providers often have special plans and rates for travel outside of the country. It can save you a fortune on international charges if you use your phone abroad.

Roll your clothing instead of folding. It will save space and can reduce wrinkles. Place a dryer sheet in the suitcase to keep things fresh during your travels. Unless you are a photographer on a photographic safari, just use your cell phone camera instead of hauling a separate camera with you. Be sure you have plenty of storage or extra SD cards if your phone uses them. Stock up on travel-sized toiletries or repackage your preferred products into TSA-approved containers. Carrying full-size bottles in your checked luggage takes up space that could be better used for other necessities.
For 10 Years, We Have Been The Premier Newborn Night Nursing Provider All of our Registered Nurses have years of
related clinical experience and are infant CPR certified. And since you care about who you let into your home, all of our nurses have
successfully passed a full criminal background check and are insured.
On The Road
Stay hydrated at all times, from the start of your journey to the end. Bring your own water bottle on the plane (and everywhere else) with you. Once you pass the TSA checkpoint, you can refill it and have water available whenever you want it instead of waiting on the flight attendant to serve you. If you forgot your phone wall charger, you can usually connect to the USB port on a TV to charge the phone (obviously you need a USB cable). Some hotels may have chargers or cables for you to borrow or buy during your stay.

Take along a bottle of peppermint oil. It will keep your breath fresh, help with any nausea symptoms, and can even aid in eliminating bad odors in the air. Peppermint candies or lozenges are also good for the first two issues. Check out online tourism sites for your destination. Many times you can find events that are scheduled during your visit. You can also score free admissions and lists of local hot spots that may not be highly publicized. Many places have "city passes" that offer a package deal on attractions and travel within the city and surrounding areas.

Meal expenses can get out of control when you're vacationing. Keep your eyes open for coupons and deals. Another way to save money on food is to make sure your lodging has at least a refrigerator and a microwave. Even one meal a day eaten at your hotel can save you money for more fun things or better souvenirs.
Coming Home
Bottles of wine or other breakables can be protected by using infla ed pool flo ation devices or "floa ies". Wrapping things in clothing can also provide extra cushioning. Request a "Fragile" tag at the counter to attach to your bags. While this won't guarantee kinder handling, it will ensure your bag doesn't get put on the bottom of the pile.

Instead of carting packages and bulky items on the plane with you, consider shipping them to yourself at home. Many local services will also do all of the packaging for you.
Try to plan for a "buffer day" at the end of your trip. If you schedule an extra day off for the day after you get home, you can go back to your regular routine a little more refreshed. A book that majorly inspired me is Spinster, by Kate Bolick (2015). I love that it reclaims the word "spinster" and reframes it not as a lonely old cat lady, but as a woman who shows up to her life— whether married, single, mother, or childless. I'm definitely guilty of spending too much time in my life pining after a relationship or unrequited love interest. After my divorce, I swore off dating because I wanted to focus on raising my child and pursuing my own passions. Instead of thinking in terms of partnership and romantic relationships, I invest heavily in my relationships with my girlfriends, run my home the way I want to, and even had the guts to go back to grad school to become a marriage and family therapist at age 39! This book made me feel really good about my choices, and empowered me to realize that I can live my life how I want to! And while I may partner again when my son is grown (who knows!), I know for sure that I will not lose my identity for the sake of a relationship ever again. — Angela Raimondo
Great Reads The Magic of Tiny Business by Sharon Rowe. "I've always wanted to launch my own ethically driven business and Sharon's book has offered so much inspiration and many tips to do it on my own. For any aspiring entrepreneurs out there, this book is for you!" — Kimberly Arnold
Dad Is Fat by im Gaffigan - tells it like it is. You get a real life look into this comedian’s kid filled life. It’s relatable and probably too honest, which makes it a guilty pleasure book that will keep an awkward smile on your face that will make people want to know what on earth you are reading! — Heather Green
Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley I can’t stand Gone With the Wind. Scarlett’s just so… irritatingly unaffected by what happens to her! It’s difficult for me to imagine anyone going through that much and remaining the selfish little tart she turns out to be even at the end of the book. In Scarlett, however, she grows up, but without losing the spark that makes her just as much of a rascal as Rhett Butler. In this authorized sequel to that great Southern historical classic, Scarlett is still independent, selfcentered, and doesn’t really give a fig what others think while also being painstakingly aware of society’s rules, but by the end of this novel, she’s become a woman who is worthy of the attention and admiration that has always been given to her. I reread it at least once a year, and every time I laugh, cry, and become inspired to live fearlessly on my own terms, like Scarlett does. — Broche Fabian I’m a devoted David Sedaris fan!! A masterful story teller, he cleverly weaves self-deprecating humor and poignant insights about his daily life and family. When he turns mole hills into mountains, you can be sure it’s always worth the climb! I just picked up a copy of Sedaris’ latest book , A Collection of Excerpts from his 1977–2002 diaries, Theft By Finding, and I can’t wait for the journey to begin! Pro tip: Be on the lookout for local shout-outs from Raleigh’s cleverest native son! — Audrey Mark Epic Survival, Uber-survivalist Matt Graham brought me back down to earth with his minimalist views - it’s refreshing and freeing. I couldn’t put this book down! This guy is fascinating and he walks you through his journey by creating a picture of what he’s gone through to get where he is. When I was done with this book I wanted to sell all of my stuff and live outdoors! — Heather Green

Kati Gardner
ACTOR, MOM, AUTHOR OF BRAVE ENOUGH
When Kati Gardner was eight, her left leg was amputated as a result of Ewings Sarcoma (cancer), but it has never held her back. She became an actor; she is married with two sweet daughters; and her ďŹ rst novel, Brave Enough, a YA book about a teenage ballerina who loses a leg to cancer, is being published this August. Spoiler alert: no one with cancer dies in this story. They do play Uno, make new friends, get stabbed, attend camp, get kissed (!), and discover they are brave enough to continue living life. This is a heartfelt story guaranteed to pull out both smiles and tears, for ages 14+. — Written by Broche Fabian
66 | triangle style
Other books about teenagers with cancer exist, but yours is more upbeat. You said you wanted to write a book where no one with cancer dies and where the one-legged girl gets kissed. Why is it important that you, someone who has battled cancer, write this story? I’d read ALL the books about teens with cancer, and I never felt like those books truly got it. There was an authenticity that was missing. The fun was missing. I had a lot of fun, both on treatment and after, and I felt like these books only handled the gloom. Cason and Davis don’t have fun all the time, but I wanted to convey that balance.
Obviously, there are similarities between you and Cason. Where does Kati leave off and Cason begin? Our only real similarities are our diagnosis and eventual amputations, but even those are different. I had to make sure I was being true to the character. For instance, I did not have a hard time adapting to my amputation, but there is a big difference between eight and seventeen. So, I had to really sit in those hard spots and think about how Cason felt about her life being completely different now.
Is it okay to say that going to cancer camp sounds like so much fun?!? Tell us more about your IRL camp – Camp Sunshine. Writing the camp scenes were some of the most fun for me. My most vivid and wonderful memories from my own adolescence were at Camp Sunshine. Camp was started in 1982 by Dorothy Jordan, a pediatric oncology nurse. She knew these kids needed a place to go where they could be just kids. Mari, one of the book characters, says that camp is the only place where hair and limbs are optional, and that’s true.
This book is about more than cancer. How did the character of Davis – a teenage boy who beat cancer, but is currently in recovery for drug addiction – come about? Davis is my favorite. I should be upfront about that. When I was a teenager, I saw when several friends dealt with addiction after cancer. Davis finds treatment in NA/AA meetings, but those don’t work for everyone. I was dealing with my own family member who was fighting that very battle, and I wanted to write about the struggle to be sober.
You’ve done so much with your life – theater, writing, motherhood. Where do you get your inspiration and strength? Being a mom and wife, as cliché as this sounds, is my favorite job. I get a lot of inspiration from my girls, who rarely pay attention to the fact that I’m disabled. Instead, they spend a lot of time trying to make me carry more stuff and using my crutches as “horsies.” As a woman with a disability, I can tell these types of stories so that teens today won’t feel so alone. We read to see ourselves and to learn about others, and I wanted the other one-legged-girls and childhood cancer survivors to see themselves in my pages. To see that we live, and that we live fantastic lives. Join Kati for the Brave Enough book release party at Quail Ridge Books on Thursday, August 23 at 7 pm. Ten people can sign up to have dinner with Kati before the event. To sign up for dinner or find out more about Kati’s event, visit QuailRidgeBooks.com/event/KatiGardner. To find out more about Kati, visit KatiGardner.com or follow her on Twitter at @authorkati.

WRITTEN BY LOU SCOTT Almost every article I read about staying young says it’s important to keep on learning. Crossword puzzles, bridge, foreign languages, anything new: these are the sorts of things on the recommended subject-list. It’s not the subject matter, but the effort that counts—the same kind of effort it takes to prepare for any kind of sport. Persistent mental exercise, something that is challenging, makes a stronger, more flexible brain. It’s also important to stay positive. Everyone has stresses in their lives, some more than others to be sure, but it’s the way one handles stress, not the stress itself, that helps. Take a walk, read an absorbing book, go to a movie or even lounge in a warm bath. And vital to staying positive is to surround yourself with friends who bring out the best in you. Having some sort of spiritual life is also important. I haven’t met a single person who has lived a long
life who doesn’t believe in something. There’s something soothing about sitting in a quiet church. It’s also no secret that exercise is key. Have you yet had a physical where you weren’t asked about the amount of exercise you do? Some of us say every day when what we really mean is that we did it every day a couple of weeks ago. The best way to make exercise part of your day is to choose a time easiest for you and simply don’t schedule anything else. Make it a sacred part of your day and let others know you won’t be available during that time. Some people do best in groups, where there is a social aspect that goes along with the exercise; others do best alone. One woman I know simply walks through the rooms of her house for an hour, listening to a book on tape while she goes.
When you are ready, so are we! Providing women in the Triangle area with the highest quality prenatal care and diagnosis.

Of course having a healthy diet always helps. More than one person I know went to a nutritionist who did all sorts of tests, and after the results came back tailor made a food plan best suited to her strengths and weaknesses. It’s true that healthy food makes healthy people. But you have to stick with it. I did beautifully on a balanced plant based diet. In fact I aced my yearly physical. I congratulated myself and then felt safe to drift away from my healthy food plan. And guess what was the outcome of my next physical? Having a sense of humor is also recommended. Some people find it’s a breeze, something that just comes to them, like a gift from heaven. Others have to work a little hard at it. I am one of those. I’ll never be the queen of the comedy circle, nor would I want to be, but there was a time when I looked askance at the life of the party and wondered why I couldn’t relax just a bit more. So I practiced laughing in front of a mirror, even though I didn’t mean it, which in turn seemed rather funny and made me laugh. Sleep, sleep, sleep, right through the night, is something else that’s recommended. I wish I could. Right now it’s 12:34 and in a few minutes I will go to sleep for only four hours, wake, have a half glass of Guinness and then go back to sleep for another four hours. That’s four hours more than I used to have. I’d like to make it red wine, it’s virtues are listed, but it gives me a headache and four extra hours count for something. Besides, a woman I once met, who was 104 at a time, had had a highball instead of a glass of wine her whole life through. Of course there are people who just shouldn’t drink at all. I think I’ve covered my bases. To have a long, healthy life: keep your mind active, your attitude sunny and your stress eliminated or at least under control. Choose positive people, enjoy a spiritual life, and take time to be still. And it’s important to create a healthy food plan, a glass of red wine included, stick to your exercise routine, encourage your sense of humor and by all means get a good night’s sleep if you can. Even so, you’ll enjoy your live all the better when you’re involved with your community and are kind to others. •••

HOW TO
HANG ART LIKE A PRO
— Carole Marcotte, Form & Function The service we provide most for clients is our redesign day where we reimagine and restyle the homeowner’s existing furniture, accessories and art. If there is one thing that intimidates people, it is the “art” of displaying art. There is no rule of thumb and everyone’s art collection varies in size and style. I like to make sure there is a variety in how the art is hung, especially in larger rooms. Here are some ways I’ve hung art, for myself and clients, over the years:
COMPOSED, TIGHT AND IN MATCHING FRAMES.
Think gallery style…think about inspiration when you travel and visit museums. A recent trip to the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid inspired this composed, tight gallery wall of my travel photos. I had photos blown up to various sizes, found a white frame that was available in the sizes I wanted (8x8, 8x10, and 16x20), and hung them similar to what I’d seen at the museum. The best part? Readymade frames + my photos = cheap art! 70 | triangle style
SALON WALL… FREESTYLE, UNMATCHED FRAMES.
I love this variation of the gallery wall, as it allows for growth and can be added to over the years. I don’t measure as carefully, usually eyeball the placement and allow for wider spacing. In my living room the “woman” wall, where all the art is very gender specific, varies with style, includes threedimensional versus two-dimensional art, and is ever evolving. It displays a colorful mix and represents meaningful pieces from friends and travel.
HANGING ART AT EYE LEVEL EXCEPT...
Generally the rule of thumb is to place art at eye level (average eye level for most folks is somewhere around 5 feet). It’s considered ideal viewing when you aren’t straining to look up too high and, especially in a room where you are mostly sitting (dining room and living room), the art can even be cheated a little lower. In the case below, there were soaring ceilings, it was a kitchen where folks stood, and thus it was an opportunity to spotlight this modern piece in a higher than normal setting.
ASYMMETRICAL GROUPING
Oh how we love our pairs and our matched sets, but sometimes we don’t accumulate an exact set or we collect similar subject matters but they aren’t a match. Why not take the opportunity to place them in an equally weighted group that suggests a set or collection even though they don’t all match? This client had a collection of inherited pieces so we used the foyer “mirror over table arrangement” but balanced it with an asymmetrical grouping of etchings and silhouettes on either side.
SINGULAR, LARGE PIECE
Sometimes you need to draw attention to one fabulous and important piece. Make sure the wall is well-scaled to the art and let the piece play center stage. This is especially effective in this living room where a family photo wall already exists, as it gives the eye a chance to rest on a singular, large piece after being overstimulated by multiple pieces on the adjacent wall. The Thomas Sayre piece over this client’s sofa was lit with small scale eyeball lighting. We gave it the prominence it deserved, placing the Sayre so it’s the first thing you see when you walk in the front door.

Desert DIY with Summer Succulents
Bringing the outside in isn’t always the easiest thing in the world. While many of the plants in our landscapes may be cared for mostly by Mother Nature, those we choose to place inside on our office desks or on the corner of the coffee table in the living room require a special touch. That’s why we give two green thumbs up to plants that don’t suck the life out of us just to keep them around. The plants that really don’t suck? (Drumroll, please!) Succulents! Can you dig it? 72 | triangle style
The e’s a reason why succulents are trending on Pinterest right now. It’s because they’re easy-care plants. They thrive off of little very little. Thin about it. The ’re native to the desert! So choose to spruce up your interior with succulents singularly, horizontally, mixed-and-matched, minimalistically. How you do it is up to you! Want our help creating the perfect centerpiece for a table in your home or office? Try out our Desert DIY with Summer Succulents.
MAP IT OUT. The e’s no wrong way to go about this. Tha ’s the good part! Succulent gardens can be beautiful when there’s no real method to the madness. A little one here. Another bigger one there. We’ll leave the design up to you. Our tip is to place your plants on top of the soil while they’re still in the plastic pots you purchased them in until you feel you have the design just right. Thisway you can visualize and experiment before you dig in.
GRAB AND GO. This DIY project is one that’s suitable for all ages. It’s the perfect project to do when the kids are out of school for the summer or with a small group of friends while enjoying the summer breeze.
DIG IN. When you feel confident about your design, move the soil with your hand or a small trowel, remove each plant from it’s plastic pot, break up the roots gently and set in place.
DOING THIS PROJECT WITH THE KIDS? They may want to create their own miniature world by making their succulent container garden into a fairy garden by adding figurines that bring fairytales to life! HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED: • container of your choice (While we love terrariums, containers with lids aren’t well-suited for succulents because they keep the inside environment too moist unless the top is left off most of the time.) • small bag of succulent soil (A mixture of half cactus potting soil and half regular potting soil will do!) • succulents of any variety, shape and size • small stones • any other unique pieces of drift wood, larger stones or fairy garden figurines (optional) DIRT DON’T HURT. Choose a place to get a little dirty. We suggest doing this project outside where the don’t hurt your carpets and rugs and so that the mess is minimal. Grab all of your purchases from above and begin to pour soil into the container until it almost reaches the brim of your container.
ON THE ROCKS. Once all of your plants are in the soil, it’s time to set it all in stone. Grab a handful of your river rocks, sea glass or shiny stones to create a path-like design along the sides of the plants so that no soil shows. Then make your final touches and water lightly. LET THERE BE LIGHT. While succulents don’t have to have direct light, they definitely aren’t going to be happy hiding in a dark corner. Place your new succulent container in a spot that receives plenty of light. EASY DOES IT. Now that you have a beautiful succulent centerpiece for your home, let’s keep it alive by keeping your cool. By that we mean to remember that the reason a succulent has thick leaves and stems is so that it can store water and survive drought in the desert. What does that mean for you? Wait until the surface of the soil appears dry before watering again. Less is more. And, now that you know you don’t have to spend so much time caring for your new plants, it’s time to sit back and enjoy! Need a little help figuring out which succulents will suit your container and space best? Visit Garden Supply Company and speak with one of the pros.

If you worry about the negative effects of sun damage and aging on your skin, you’ll be happy to know that DR. BOYSE AND THE TEAM AT SOUTHERN DERMATOLOGY now offer several innovative procedures to restore your skin’s youthful glow. THESE FOUR HOT NEW LASER TREATMENTS can minimize scarring, wrinkles, and acne as well as treat sun spots, loss of firmness, and rosacea. Read on to learn which one might be best for you. Science and technology never looked so good!
THE LATEST IN
LASERS
HALO HYBRID FRACTIONAL LASER THERAPY treatment options— from a shallow MicroLaserPeel® (up to
WHAT IT IS: Halo provides an unmatched patient experience in the world of laser resurfacing by using a combination of two lasers to rejuvenate skin. An ablative beam works on the skin’s surface while a non-ablative laser stimulates collagen production and tightens underlying skin. This hybrid fractional laser maximizes results and reduces downtime to improve a variety of skin conditions. TREATS: Halo’s power to resurface the skin will reduce fine lines and wrinkles, correct issues caused by sun damage, and treat scarring, discoloration, uneven skin tone, and enlarged pores. It can treat most skin types on face and body, and popular off-face treatments include neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, and scarring. RESULTS: You will see initial results between two and five days, once skin has gone through the bronzing stage and peels to reveals your new, revitalized skin layers beneath. During the next few weeks you’ll notice continued improvement, especially in pigmentation. This will continue as your skin regenerates throughout the following months. By treating your skin kindly and using UV protection, your results can last for years to come
BBL BROADBAND LIGHT™ PHOTOTHERAPY FROM SCITON®. WHAT IT IS: BBL, also known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), is world-renowned for its treatment for skin rejuvenation and photodamage. BBL is a non-invasive procedure that addresses both redness and brown pigment in the same treatment, also improving texture and complexion. A growing body of evidence suggests IPL can stimulate collagen production and prevent fine lines and wrinkles as well. Most patients require 2–3 treatments for corrective results, but visible improvement can be achieved after only one. BBL isn’t just a beauty treatment, it’s also a preventative and maintenance regimen. TREATS: It effectively treats acne, age spots, freckles, small blood vessels, rosacea, and loss of firmness. Any area of your body can be treated, and the most popular treatments are on the face, neck, back of the hands, chest, and shoulders. RESULTS: You can expect mild redness in the treated area right after treatment, which may feel like a sunburn. These symptoms should go away in just a few hours (or a day or two in some cases). You’ll notice healthier-looking skin start to appear several days after treatment, and sun spots, age spots, and broken blood vessels will begin to clear up in one to two weeks.
THE CONTOUR TRL (TUNABLE RESURFACING LASER) WHAT IT IS: Contour TRL is a full-field skin resurfacing solution that allows for customized treatment based on each patient’s skin condition and needs. It offers a wide variety of 68 | triangle style
50μm of ablation) to deep resurfacing (up to 200μm of ablation per pass), with or without variable depth coagulation. This means that TRL technology gives the physician exquisite precision to dial in the exact tissue effects needed for each individual patient’s desired outcome and tolerance for downtime. TREATS: Deep wrinkles will find great benefit from Contour TRL, including difficult to treat areas like around the mouth and eyes. It also improves the appearance of scars, sun spots, poor skin tone or texture, and rough scaly patches of skin caused by years of sun damage (actinic keratosis). It can treat several areas of the body, though the most commonly treated areas are the face and neck, and laser skin peels are often combined with traditional plastic surgery procedures to further improve results. RESULTS: Common side-effects post-treatment include redness, swelling, and mild discomfort, which may last 6–8 days depending on the level of skin resurfacing. Once fully healed, however, you will notice a drastic improvement in your skin quality. After just one treatment, your skin may be more firm, evenly toned, and have a significant reduction in lines and wrinkles. Despite a slightly longer recovery time than other treatments, you’ll be happy to know that a follow-up appointment is rarely needed.
SCITON’S PROFRACTIONAL WHAT IT IS: ProFractional offers the best of both worlds— excellent resurfacing results with minimal downtime. It improves skin’s overall appearance by using a laser microbeam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Rather than removing the entire surface area of a treatment site, like with full-field resurfacing, ProFractional creates narrow-diameter channels into the skin, covering a fraction of the total treatment area. This action initiates the body’s wound healing response, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing. TREATS: Most skin areas can be treated, and popular treatment areas are the face and neck, though many people also treat the chest and hands. It is used to tighten skin and treat wrinkles, lines, sun damage, and scars (including from acne). RESULTS:The benefits of ProFractional include shorter healing times, and finely-tuned results that can range from subtle to dramatic. Like the other treatments listed, you may feel sunburned and experience minor flaking and itching the day after treatment. This usually fades by day two, and you can generally wear makeup by the third day to cover any remaining redness. As your collagen rebuilds and heals, you can expect your skin to continue improving for up to six months. Excellent results can be obtained in just one treatment, though the number of treatments may vary from patient to patient. Your physician can personalize a plan based on your specific needs.

Magnesium citrate is a compound made up of magnesium combined with citric acid, and is considered one of the most absorbable supplemental forms of magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral that plays an essential role in many bodily functions, as it helps convert food to energy, build proteins from amino acids, repair DNA and regulate the contraction and relaxation of muscles. Deficient magnesium levels can lead to cramps, anxiety, insomnia, constipation and fatigue. Luckily, deficiencies can be shored up with magnesium citrate supplements, which host a variety of health benefits.
Boosts Energy Levels
Written By Lin YC
76 | triangle style
Magnesium helps convert energy from food to fuel by activating adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the high-energy molecule found in every cell. Without sufficient magnesium levels, you'll feel fatigued throughout the day and tire more quickly during exercise. By getting enough magnesium, you can sustain higher energy levels.
Reduces Anxiety Magnesium helps facilitate the production of serotonin, which known as the "happiness hormone." Serotonin is required for relaxation and countering stress hormones like cortisol. Research has linked magnesium deficiency to anxiety and found that supplementation reverses this effect.
Promotes Better Sleep
Redefining Space. One Room At A Time.
Serotonin also plays a role in regulating your sleep cycle, and without adequate magnesium levels, a decline in serotonin can cause insomnia. By supplementing with magnesium citrate, you can feel more relaxed, fall asleep faster and get the sleep you need.
Relieves Constipation Magnesium is critical for digestion and elimination. It neutralizes stomach acid and relaxes your digestive muscles, allowing stool to move through the intestines. Low magnesium intake is linked to constipation, and magnesium citrate is a known laxative that can safely ease and prevent constipation.
Alleviates Muscle Aches, Cramps and Spasms Magnesium is required for communication between your brain and muscles, and without enough of it, your muscles can cramp, spasm and feel achy and weak. If you consistently deal with muscle tension or cramping, you may be magnesium deficient. In this case, you'll find that magnesium citrate relaxes your muscles and improves range of motion.
Helps Prevent Osteoporosis Magnesium works hand in hand with calcium to build strong bones and prevent osteoporosis, which is a condition resulting from low bone density. Studies have shown that higher magnesium intakes correlate to increased bone density in both men and women and that magnesium supplementation can prevent and even reverse osteoporosis. Magnesium is the fourth most prevalent mineral required in the human body, which makes it critical for a wide range of functions. Research demonstrates that when magnesium is bonded to citric acid to form magnesium citrate, its rate of absorption increases. This makes it ideal for magnesium supplementation, which can shore up deficiencies and help you relax, sustain energy, sleep better and build strong bones. •••

BORN TO BE WILD is a documentary about two women, one in Kenya and the other in Borneo, who have spent their lives taking care of orphaned elephants and orangutans. However, their ultimate goal is to return them to the wild where they belong. Along the way there are some very sweet moments: baby elephants drink from milk bottles and play “soccer” together. Orangutans vigorously shampoo themselves and go zipping along on a motorcycle, holding on for dear life to the man driving. Filmed in crystal clear Imax, it makes for great family viewing. BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD On the Bathtub, an impoverished island cut off from the coast of New Orleans, is a spunky and fearless six-year old girl named Hushpuppy. To her the Bathtub is the best, the most wonderful place in all the world to live, for it has lots and lots of celebrations; there’s even one for how long it takes a baby to crawl to a finish line five feet away. As most of the island’s residents, Wink, her father, likes the Bathtub’s primitive way of life. In spite of drinking, scavenging, doing whatever whenever he pleases, he teaches Hushpuppy what he thinks she needs to know -- to catch fish with her bare hands, to keep their truck/boat afloat and to protect herself from the island’s next horrendous storm. Hushpuppy isn’t at all afraid. After all who else can stop ancient aurochs in their tracks? Besides, she says, even if the Bathtub doesn’t survive, a thousand years from now scientists will discover it and know that a girl named Hushpuppy once lived there.

MANHATTAN is a light-hearted romantic comedy and one of Woody Allen’s best-regarded films. As always, his storyline is delightfully hard to define. But I’ll try.
Woody’s ex-wife, Meryl Streep, writes a tell-all memoir about their divorce (he tried to run her over with his car). His best friend has an affair with a zany intellectual, Diane Keaton. Woody casually dates a high school senior, Mariel Hemingway. Then he drops her and falls in love with his best friend’s mistress. The high school senior goes to England. His best friend’s mistress goes back to her lover. However it is the city itself, as in Woody Allen’s recent films -- about London, Paris, and Rome -- who has the top billing.
