Eight Parisian Fall Outfits to Copy for Cozy French Style
As the autumn air sweeps through the streets of Paris, the city's fashionistas begin to transition their wardrobes for the fall season. French women have mastered the art of effortlessly chic dressing, and their fall wardrobe is a testament to this. It's all about classic pieces with a touch of something décontracté. Parisian fall outfits often revolve around neutral colors like black, brown, gray, and beige with thoughtful doses of color.
If you’re seeking that casually elegant Parisian vibe, you’re in the right place! In this post, I’m sharing eight Parisian fall outfit ideas inspired by French style. From warm knits and tailored trenches to perfectly layered ensembles, these looks embody French girl style while keeping you cozy and stylish all season long. Continue reading to discover eight Parisian-inspired looks to copy this fall, no matter where you are.

TRÈS CHIC TRENCH
The trench coat is a Parisian fall staple, and for good reason. It brings classic sophistication to any outfit and keeps you covered on those not-too-cold fall days. To copy this French girl uniform, start with a basic tee or knit—white or grey works beautifully—and pair it with your favorite jeans.
Throw on a trench coat in a neutral tone like khaki, camel, beige, or even darker shades like black or navy. Ankle boots are the fall footwear in every Parisian’s closet and complete this outfit perfectly. Neutral shades are the most versatile, but a pop of burgundy red or olive green also looks incredibly chic. This outfit is ideal for everything from a casual rendezvous to a stroll through the fall foliage.
FLORAL DRESS + KNEE-HIGH BOOTS
Who says you can’t wear a dress in the fall? This feminine floral mini paired with knee-high boots is an utterly charming combo for fall.
While floral patterns are often associated with spring, a fall floral dress can be surprisingly versatile. Stick with muted tones and richer hues like deep burgundy, chocolate brown or forest green to fit the season. Opting for long sleeves also makes the dress more fall-appropriate, especially as winter approaches.
A knee-high boot in suede or leather complements the dress beautifully. Not only do these boots keep your legs warm, but they also elongate your legs.
And finally, complete the outfit with a classic bucket bag. Its structured shape and roomy interior are perfect for carrying all your essentials, from a chic scarf to your go-to rouge à lèvres. You can coordinate the bag with your boots or mix different materials and colors. I personally love incorporating autumnal textures like suede or tweed for some added visual interest.
SWEATER + JEANS + ANKLE BOOTS
Simplify your fall dressing with this Parisian outfit formula. A chunky knit sweater, your favorite pair of jeans, and sleek ankle boots are all you need to nail French girl fall style.
With seemingly endless options for knitwear, I’d recommend something slightly oversized to balance with the slimmer fit of the jeans. When it comes to color, soft neutrals never go out of style, but incorporating brighter shades is equally as chic—especially if you have a spring or winter color season.
Pair your sweater with slim or straight-leg jeans to balance the proportions and add some sleek ankle boots. For the finishing touch, accessorize with a simple crossbody bag or slouchy leather tote. A cozy, layered look without too much fuss.
PARISIAN PREP
DENIM ON DENIM
The denim-on-denim look might seem daring, but with a French girl twist, it's pure effortless chic. Start with a relaxed denim shirt; you can even layer it over a turtleneck for extra warmth without the bulk. For bottoms? Denim, of course! A high-waisted flare or straight-leg jean is classic Parisian. Choose a wash similar to the top to keep it cohesive.
Or, skip the separates and opt for a denim jumpsuit—just as stylish and even easier to throw on. Elevate the look with ankle boots. You can’t go wrong with a suede style for fall. A few dainty accessories like a silk scarf, skinny belt, and delicate jewelry, will pull it all together. Et voilà! This outfit is uncomplicated and cool, perfect for a casual day out.
When it comes to Parisian fall fashion, this is the quintessential look for the preppy gals. It’s back-to-school style for those of us not still in school.
A tailored blazer is the key piece in this look, adding that signature Parisian sophistication. Underneath, a crisp white button-down shirt adds a fresh, polished touch. A mini skirt in a classic plaid or solid color offers a playful yet chic twist. This piece not only complements the blazer but also works well for transitioning into cooler weather.
Complete the outfit with loafers and crew socks. Together, they bring a preppy, collegiate vibe—perfect for early fall. Accessorize with a shoulder bag that’s sleek yet roomy enough to carry your purse essentials. A croc bag is a French girl favorite that’s fun for fall. In this stunning burgundy hue, it brings some color to an otherwise neutral look. This fall fit is polished, preppy and perfectly Parisian.
LUXE IN LEATHER
For a Parisian fall outfit that exudes effortless cool, try this leather jacket and suede skirt combo—perfect for those chiller nights out when you seek some edginess in your look. A long suede skirt feels incredibly luxe while still feeling relaxed.
Contrast the softness of the suede with a bolder leather jacket. Whether you prefer a Perfecto, a bomber or even a leather blazer, it will instantly infuse the outfit with cool Parisian attitude. Finish with tall boots that reach just below the knee for a sleek silhouette that elongates your legs.
The quilted Chanel bag featured in the original look is undeniably chic, but any small handbag will do. Match it to your jacket and shoes for a cohesive fit that’s perfect for date night or any occasion where you want to look naturally stylish.
PLAID À LA PARISIENNE
Plaid blazers never go out of style in the fall, and thankfully, they’re a must-have in any French girl’s wardrobe. They’re practical for layering—throw one over a tee on those warm September days or a heavier knit as the cooler November weather arrives. For this Parisian fall look, layer a pointelle cami underneath your plaid blazer for a soft, feminine touch that beautifully contrasts with the blazer’s polished fit.
Combine this with well-fitted jeans and sleek ankle boots for a look that strikes a balance between formal and casual, making it ideal for both weekend outings and evening events. A woven or suede tote bag offers some texture to tie everything together for Parisian fall style that’s both stylish and practical.
There’s something undeniably chic about pairing classic pieces with unexpected pops of color. This Parisian-inspired ensemble is the perfect example. A cozy wool coat, a timeless crewneck sweater, and classic straightleg jeans form the base of this outfit. To elevate these wardrobe staples with a playful twist, add a pair of red Mary Janes and matching red socks. It’s a subtle yet impactful way to inject personality into your autumn wardrobe.
While red is having a moment, feel free to experiment with other seasonal colors, and consider your color season for hues that complement your complexion. Finish with a beret and a leather tote bag to complete the French-girl aesthetic.
ON TREND FASHION
fall is officially upon us! The start of a new season is always exciting, as it brings new possibilities and a chance to try out new fashion trends. We dived into the world of runway shows and tiktok and have put together a list of the top 5 fall fashion trends for 2024.
Gear up for the new season while staying up to the date with the latest trends; fall fashion is all about layering and experimenting with your style.
ALL BOWED UP
The era of bows continues, except now it has grown up and mixed with cozy and warm silhouettes. While one may think of bows to be super feminine, but the latest fall 2024 runway shows proved otherwise. Bows have now taken a fresh coquette energy that takes a step away from childhood nostalgia. There are so many ways to incorporate this latest fall fashion trend into your current wardrobe, without looking too feminine.
MELLOW YELLOW
Buttery yellow has been dominating the fashion industry right now and it seems like the trend will continue into the upcoming fall season. Soft shades of yellow will help bring a little sunshine into those grey and deary fall days. When we think of fall, we picture cozy neutrals and moody tones, but the mellow yellow trend is here to shake things up. A cozy sweater, a tailored trench coat or a ribbed midi dress; this color choice will look good no matter what.
ASYMMETRIC WONDERS
If you’re someone who loves to experiment with fashion and standout, then this trend is the perfect segue into that realm. The fall 2024 runway shows were filled with asymmetric hemlines, and we are obsessed with how much it brings to the table. This trend is all about unexpected angles, so don’t be afraid to experiment a little and pick something that will have people guessing.
FAUX FUR FRENZY
The season calls for some cozy fits and what’s cozier than fur? As the air starts to get cooler, slip into a warm, oversized, fuzzy coat and master the art of layering. While it may not be super chilly outside to dawn yourself in a heavy faux coat, but a cropped pullover or a faux fur accented jacket will do the trick nicely.
THE BOHO TOUCH
This season, the designers were focused on giving the world an opportunity to tap into their bohemian side. It seems that the boho trend is having a revival this year, but not in the way we would think. Floral lace blouses are at the centre of this trend, but this time they are paired with more masculine pieces such as boyfriend jeans or cargo pants to create a balance.
TRIANGLE FASHIONISTA
"This outfit really plays into texture, structure and patterns. Leopard print has been a trend this summer season, but can easily transition to fall, I also love that the pants are a cargo style which is also pretty trendy right now. I've also really been digging the color orange lately and I think it pairs so well with leopard print."

HI Anna, I was given a $500 gift certificate for mothers day and now lost on how to best use it. Would you recommend a facial and products? OR should I put it towards something bigger like a laser treatment or injectables? I am traveling this summer and Ideally, I would like to soften the lines and get a little color back!
Thank you so much - Jennifer
Hi Jennifer– lucky you! Someone special in your life knows what they’re doing! If you’re looking for a treatment you can do this summer, I’d recommend putting that giftcard towards injectables or PDO Threads for smoothing and lifting Botox® will forever be our holy grail when it comes to de-wrinkling. This treatment is quick with very minimal downtime: you’ll see brighter smoother skin after two weeks and these results will last three to four months. Botox® is great in the forehead, around the eyes or between the brows and can leave you with a more refreshed appearance. PDO Threads, on the other hand, can be used in many different places around the face and can help with smoothing the skin or even helping to add lift and structure. Threads have gained a lot of popularity in recent years, and for good reason! They are very well tolerated in the skin, with results lasting up to a year, and they even promote the production of your body’s own collagen as they dissolve. Both of these options have very minimal downtime and are safe to do during the sunniest months of the year! As always, the best thing to do is to come in for a consultation with an experienced medical provider so that we can customize a specific plan based on your skin. Enjoy! – Anna

ON EXHIBIT:
Venice and the Ottoman Empire
September 28, 2024–January 5, 2025
Vittore Carpaccio, Portrait of Doge Leonardo Loredan, 1501–5, tempera and oil on panel, 26.4 × 20.1 in.,
Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia – Museo Correr, Cl. I n. 0043
THIS AMBITIOUS CROSS-CULTURAL EXHIBITION EXPLORES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO GLOBAL SUPERPOWERS, THE REPUBLIC OF VENICE AND THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE, OVER FOUR CENTURIES (CIRCA 1400–1800).
Through a rich body of works reflecting both Venetian and Ottoman origins, Venice and the Ottoman Empire documents interactions between the two rival Mediterranean states across multiple cultural arenas—political, diplomatic, economic, artistic, technological, and culinary.
The Venetian loans are joined by a trove of recently salvaged objects from a major Adriatic shipwreck, the large Venetian merchant ship Gagliana Grossa that sank while traveling from Venice to Istanbul in 1583. These spectacular items have never been exhibited outside Croatia, where the wreck is located.
Featuring more than 190 works in a broad range of media, the exhibition draws from the vast collections of Venice’s storied civic museums, including the Museo Correr, Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Mocenigo, and Museo Fortuny, as well as the NCMA’s own extensive holdings of Venetian art. Highlights include paintings by Jacobello del Fiore, Vittore Carpaccio, and Gentile Bellini and luxury Venetian and Ottoman goods including textiles, ceramics, metalwork objects, glassware, armor, books, and leatherware.

FIVE APPS TO HELP YOU BE MORE ORGANIZED
Organization is critical in both work and home, but being organized is getting harder every day.
After all, between work, zoom calls, commuting, catching up on social media, doing groceries, and taking time for ourselves, we all have tighter schedules than people a decade ago. Luckily, we also have more powerful smartphones than ever, and there are many organization apps available to help you.
HERE ARE OUR FAVORITE APPS TO BE ORGANIZED AND MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DAY.
Photo by bruce mars on Unsplash
EVERNOTE
Evernote is one of the best note-taking apps, and taking notes is key if you want to be more organized. Evernote, though, is more than a notepad. It literally helps you remember everything, from important dates and appointments to images and other media. Scan documents, upload audio, or simply write a quick note and Evernote will sync your dashboard with all of your devices.Did you have a great business idea while on the subway? Type it down and get back to it later. Did you see something inspiring while in the park? Take a picture and store it instantly and safely.Evernote is an assistant for your short- and longterm memory, and it will let you focus on other things while never forgetting what really matters.
1PASSWORD
Nowadays, one of the easiest ways of being more productive and staying organized is to have your passwords in order. After all, we’re all subscribed to dozens of services and use a vast range of online services for everything, from doing our shopping to chatting with our loved ones.Well, 1password takes care of your passwords safely and conveniently, with top-of-the-line security while still being easy to use. Use it individually or get a family plan. There are also many enterprise solutions for your business, and they all work similarly. Think of carrying around your browser’s trusty autofill extension everywhere you go and on all your devices.
HITASK
MEALBOARD
Staying organized in the kitchen is one of the most important things if you want to get a healthy routine going. Here’s where MealBoard comes in. Think of a pantry management app that helps you keep track of your grocery list based on a recipe library. The app works the other way around as well, as it will recommend recipes depending on what’s in your fridge and pantry. Planning meals weekly is easy with MealBoard, which saves you time and ensures you buy what you really need when at the supermarket. The best part? All the information is right there on your screen, in a minimalist interface that makes the app fun to use.
HiTask is a high-performance, easy-touse app that combines a shared calendar, document storage, and project tracking in a single screen, right at your fingertips. HiTask is perfect for small companies and startups, but it does wonders for entrepreneurs and stay-athome parents too.HiTask proves its worth when you start using it with others, as sharing notes and tasks is effortless, keeping everyone in the loop. The app’s To-do list and time-tracking tool are a highlight, but it’s the app’s single-screen dashboard that really makes it special.
TRELLO
Trello is a powerful project management app. Professionals in all fields use Trello to keep track of their and their team’s projects, and even artists use it to keep track of their commissions. This app is better if you are part of a small team, but you can also use it to assign tasks to your family members. Combining boards, lists, and cards representing every task and idea makes using Trello intuitive. One task leads to the next until you complete your project, whether it’s renovating your kitchen or preparing the quarterly earnings report. Stay organized people!

FIVE RECIPE IDEAS FOR RICE
Rice is a wonderful little grain. Billions of people enjoy it every day and it’s because it’s a healthy, tasty, and versatile energy source. However, when it comes to cooking rice at home, we often stick to one or two proven recipes, missing out on all the things you can cook with it. Well, here are five recipe ideas from around the world to cook rice in new and exciting ways.
SUSHI Sushi might just be the fanciest rice dish ever. It’s nothing but rice and fish, basically, but the combination is both light and incredibly delicious. There are many sushi types, and some are more complicated to make than others, but they all share the same sticky rice. To make rice for sushi. Get your hands on glutinous white rice (sushi rice). Rince the rice until the water is clear. In a pot, cook 1 cup of rice in two cups of water. If you have a rice cooker, even better! Cook undisturbed until the water evaporates and the rice is tender. Meanwhile, combine half a cup of rice vinegar with 1/4 cup of white sugar. Once the rice is cooked, add the vinegar mixture and toss gently to incorporate. Now you’re ready to make sushi rolls or any other type of sushi.
FRIED RICE
A Chinese staple, fried rice is irresistible, and it pairs well with many Asian specialties, including kung pao chicken and sweet and sour pork. However, fried rice will also do well when served on its own as a light but satisfying meal. To make fried rice, you’ll need day-old rice, so this recipe is perfect for when having leftovers. Use a super-hot frying pan or a wok. Start by sauteing chopped onion, garlic and ginger in a splash of oil. Cook until fragrant. Then add diced carrots and peas. Any veggie will do. Once soft, push the veggies aside and add two eggs. Scramble as they cook until crumbly. Add the rice and combine everything. Now, season with soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and, if you like it spicy, a splash of Sriracha. Mix while cooking until the rice becomes golden.
RICE AND BEANS
Rice and beans might sound like a simple two-ingredient combo, but the dish is a Caribbean staple and a satisfying whole meal. The secret to making authentic rice and beans and ensuring the dish is packed with flavor is adding a few colorful ingredients: bacon, chorizo, and bell peppers. Cook the beans in a pressure cooker with a laurel leaf and a teaspoon of oregano until tender. Set apart. Cook one cup of rice with two cups of water and reserve. In a pan, sauté chopped onion, garlic, green bell peppers, bacon, and chorizo until fragrant. Finally, combine the cooked rice and the beans (drained) with the sautéed ingredients in a colorful hot mess. Season to taste and enjoy!
JAMBALAYA
Rice is the star ingredient in this colorful creole dish from Louisiana. The dish has African, French, and Spanish influences, but it tastes like the American South. Although the jambalaya looks like a complicated dish, it is actually a one-pot beauty that you can cook easily with a little patience, especially if you have a slow cooker.
To cook jambalaya in a slow cooker, combine a can of diced tomatoes, a can of chicken broth, and a can of tomato paste with a few tablespoons of chopped celery, green peppers, onion, and garlic. That’s the base. Complement with cubed chicken breast, chopped smoked sausage, and shrimp. Cook for an hour or until halfway cooked. Finally, add the rice to the mixture and cook until it is nice and aldente.
ARROZ CON LECHE
Literally meaning rice and milk, arroz con leche is a rice-based dessert, and it’s popular everywhere in Latin America. Although we often think of rice as a savory food, rice is neutral flavored. When sweetened and mixed with milk, you get a porridge or pudding that has the creamiest texture and the silkiest mouthfeel.
To make arroz con leche, cook one cup of short-grain rice with two cups of water until the rice is fully cooked and the water evaporates (like you’d cook regular rice). Add a cinnamon stick to the mixture for extra flavor. Once cooked, combine the rice with a 2:1 mixture of whole milk and condensed milk. Stir to combine and allow to cool until it thickens. Garnish with dusted cinnamon and raisins. Rice can do it all, so, what will your next rice project be?
WAYS YOU CAN SAVE MONEY AT THE GROCERY STORE
Today’s economy is tough on everyone! We all look for ways to save money in all aspects of our lives. Grocery shopping can be one of the hardest tasks we have and it can be even more difficult to save money when it comes to shopping for groceries. There are, however, ways you can save some of your hard earned cash when it comes to buying groceries. Most of the grocery store chains we have today offer Rewards programs. These are deals for those who have downloaded the Stores App on their phones. What is available on those Apps are coupons you can only get when using the app, special pricing for the app user and oftentimes, offers that you will not see in the newspaper or advertised outwardly.
MAKE A LIST AND STICK TO IT!
When you plan to do your shopping, it is always the best plan to figure out the meals you plan to make, and the items you will need for each. When you make the list, be sure to check the cupboards and pantry, freezer and refrigerator to be sure what items you will need. Being unprepared can leave you guessing while at the store. This means that you will likely pick up items that you already have at home, which will cost extra and take away from what you had planned to spend.spend.
EAT PRIOR TO SHOPPING.
As silly as that sounds, many people do not realize that they spend more money on impromptu purchases due to being hungry. When you are satiated, there is no sudden desire to pick up all the items that look so tasty. Stores actually count on shoppers being hungry when they shop, the store makes more money on impromptu purchases.
USE COUPONS.
Coupons can be quite the money saving opportunity. There are often store specials on many items in the store, and when you combine coupons with those specials, you could save a lot of money. When done with preparation, many consumers combine the coupons with special store deals and are able to multiply their savings.
WHEN POSSIBLE, BUY IN BULK.
This is usually done with friends or family. If you have friends or family that use the same products, such as flour or pasta, basically any item that can be bought in a large quantity, share the cost with them. Buying in bulk means a lower cost overall on the product, and the less you will have to purchase it. You do need to be aware of expiration dates and storage options that will allow you to keep the products fresh for a longer period of time.
BUY THE STORE BRANDS.
Just because the product does not have a big name attached to it, does not mean that it does not taste the same. Most of the Store brands are cheaper than the big name products, this will help extend your grocery budget greatly.
CURB APPEAL IN A WEEKEND
If you're looking to sell your home, you probably already know the importance of curb appeal. In today's real estate market, a majority of buyers will drive or walk past a home for sale before they decide if they'd like to see more. Even homebuyers who search online will usually look at the outside of a home for sale before calling to arrange a showing.
In just a couple days, you can transform your home's exterior from drab to impressive. In addition to making your house and yard look neat and inviting, you can give buyers the impression that they won't need to spend much time or money on maintenance. A low-maintenance property can be a huge selling point for many buyers.
Curb Appeal, Day One
Start off with a good cleaning. Work from your front door out, and be careful not to overlook small details. For instance:
•Remove dead bugs from the porch light and wash the globe or reflector
.•Sweep or wipe down window shutters, overhangs and other areas that collect cobwebs
•Sweep the porch and steps
•Wash the windows (inside and out)
Try to look at the front of your home with new eyes. Take a broom to the sidewalk cracks. If there are weeds in the cracks, pour a bit of boiling water on them--they'll shrivel and die in a day.
Make sure your front yard looks neat and lowmaintenance as well. Mow the lawn, keep it edged and add a fresh layer of mulch to your planting beds. Don't go overboard planting flowers or trimming bushes into elaborate shapes. The object here is to make it look like the front of your home simply stays neat and never needs attention.
Curb Appeal, Day Two
After a day of cleaning and neatening-up, your home's exterior will look nice and appear easy to maintain. Your curb appeal goal on day two is to make it look inviting; to make people want to see more. Any of the following touches could transform neat and clean into warm and inviting. Stand at the curb and decide which would add the greatest visual appeal to your particular home.
•Repaint your front door
•Add one or two pots of flowers near the front entrance
•Replace the house numbers with stylish new ones
•Hang a welcoming, seasonally appropriate wreath on the front door
•Replace your doormat
•Put a cheery lamp inside a window visible from the street
Quick and Inexpensive Curb Appeal
Arguably, curb appeal is one of the most important qualities in a home for sale. Boosting your curb appeal is shown to increase the interest in a home. Increased interest generally means more showings and less time on the market, and can even increase the perceived value of your home.
As important as it is, though, curb appeal doesn't have to take a bite out of your budget or a week of your time. Keep it clean and simple, and your home is sure to beckon potential buyers to request a showing.

Every summer, our daughters, along with their f children, leave their homes in Raleigh and Chica behind to visit us (“their elderly parents”) who n live in Maine. This summer, my daughters ha already made a list of their favorite activities: o door concerts; picnics in the park, parades, f works, trips to the beach, and for intrepid soul challenging climb up a mountain for the magnific view of sailboats bobbing up and down in the oc beyond. But, on many a day, there were also ple ant walks to a quaint downtown and its good fashioned ice cream stand.
five ago now ave outfires, a cent ean easold
But in the midst of all these “fun” activities, there was always another list, the to-do list, one my daughters had also already made. This year it included, paint the outdoor steps, lay down fresh mulch in the garden; clean out the garage; take Mom and Dad to their doctor’s appointments. And my grandchildren clearly thought chores they assigned to themselves could also fun. Laughing and giggling through their “weed pulling contest” (the winner got to choose the largest, most elaborate ice cream cone imaginable). My daughters, not to be outdone by their children, headed straight to the garage. “Mom, are you really keeping this”? It was a good visit, a very good visit, in every way. Yet, this year, when we said our good-byes, I felt disarranged.
I felt confused well into Maine’s vibrant October. While standing on my white wraparound porch to admire the brilliant reds, yellows, and gold leaves on the trees in the village below, I knew I was grieving. Like a stab in the heart, so incredibly painful. I felt hollow. Left behind. Old.
But looking back, following my daughter’s move to North Carolina, twenty-five years ago, these very same feelings kept me company for quite some time. Though I knew then that, at a moment’s notice, I could simply hop on a plane and a couple of hours later, my daughter and I could be sipping margaritas and playing a spirited game of scrabble. We always had fun together, and when she gave birth to my granddaughter, we had even more.
Next summer, my granddaughter will be all grown up. Seventeen, a high school senior, and preparing for college. I realize, it might very well be the last summer she will spend summers not only with us, but also with her mother, sister, aunt and cousins. The summers won’t be the same without her. They just won’t.
She was their leader, organizer of their days: tie dying shirts, walking to the playground for basketball or simply enjoying an afternoon of swimming in one of the well-kept city pools. And therein lies my grief- the emptiness I have inside, as well as the gratitude of having had
fifteen summers, all the way back to the time she was six months old.
This summer really does feel different. No longer will I be able to just hop on a plane and head south. Now in my eighties, I have grab bars everywhere, carry a cane, and need to hold my daughters’ hands whenever they visit and want to go for a walk.
Balance issues aside, the summers of my own childhood were similar, They began with my greatly loved grandmother, swimming in the lake, church picnics, and Scottish men, their bagpipes and kilts in an 1920s bandstand in the park. But during my seventeenth summer, there was something about Grandma that seemed very sad. In her heart, she must have known. This was my last summer. The next one, I was working at a lodge nearby.
I think about women I don’t even know, their transitions. How they must feel on their daughter’s first day of school, her graduation from high school, a first job, perhaps happy summers too soon gone by.
And then my thoughts turn to my seventeenth summer, the last summer Grandma and I spent together. I was not only her eldest granddaughter, but she raised me from the time I was two until I was four. Our good-byes must have been heartbreaking. For she picked up her purse, put on her gloves and, holding back tears, said she was headed straight to the library. The walk “would clear her mind” and the six books she was going to check out would get her through the coming week.”
As I write this, I realize my Grandma was a wonderful role model and I am finding my own coping skills. Sanding the porch, watching Taylor Swift videos - paying particular attention to “I can do it with a broken heart,” as well as racing through the pages of thrillers and detective mysteries. And in between it all, I am thinking about Christmas and Thanksgiving.

ENJOY THE SHOW
When attending a concert, it's important to be prepared to have an enjoyable and hassle-free experience. Here are five essential items to bring that will make your concert experience easier: Remember to check the venue's rules and guidelines before the event to ensure you comply with any restrictions or regulations.
WATER BOTTLE:
Concert venues can get crowded and temperatures can rise quickly due to the energetic atmosphere and packed crowds. Staying hydrated is essential, so bring a reusable water bottle to keep yourself refreshed and cool throughout the event. Some venues have water fountains, and others will allow you to bring an empty bottle that you can fill once you're inside.
EARPLUGS
Concerts are known for their loud music and screaming crowds. Protecting your hearing is crucial, especially if you're attending a high-energy rock or electronic concert. Invest in a pair of quality earplugs that will allow you to enjoy the music while reducing the risk of hearing damage. Many affordable earplugs are designed specifically for concertgoers, providing a comfortable fit without compromising sound quality.
CASH
While many events accept card payments, not all vendors and food stalls may have this option. Taking some cash with you can save time and prevent frustration when purchasing food, drinks, or merchandise. It's also helpful for tipping service staff or street performers, as well as avoiding long lines at ATMs.
SMALL BAG OR BACKPACK:
Chances are you'll have other items you want to bring with you, such as a wallet, keys, a water bottle, or even a light jacket. To keep your belongings secure and your hands free during the concert, bring a small bag or backpack. Look for one that meets the venue's size restrictions and has secure zippers or clasps to prevent theft.
PORTABLE PHONE CHARGER:
In today's digital age, our smartphones have become integral to our lives, even during concerts. From taking photos and videos to sharing updates on social media, your phone will likely be busy during the event. To avoid running out of battery, carry a portable phone charger with you. These small, lightweight devices can keep your phone powered up throughout the show, ensuring you won't miss any memorable moments or lose touch with friends.
