GOING GREEN NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD
BELINDABILLY Jed Gammon Photography
Being eco-minded is chic, but it hasn't always looked that way. Thanks to a fabulous new crop of designers, manufacturers and merchants dedicated to the planet, being well dressed doesn't have to mean dressing like a hippie or harming the environment. Eco-friendly is a much used buzzword that we hear regarding everything from paper to appliances and many things in between. One area where we’re hearing the term far more often is the fashion realm. Far from the days of bland ‘greige’ cotton fabrics and shapeless styles, designers are filling a niche that is hungry for hip, chic clothing that treads lightly on Mother Earth – and they are staying right in step with fashion trends. So forget the notion of eco-friendly fashion being boring as today it’s anything but. We talked with a couple of local designers and a boutique owner who show us just how exciting going green can be! Jamie Powell is one clever gal. As a wholesaler of vintage clothing, she received many items that were damaged, stained or beyond repair and basically just throwaways. However, she couldn’t bear to part with them so she began to cut them up and give them another life as a whole new garment. Hence, her clothing line, Revamp, was born. As her company grew, she realized that what she so loved about her line was also limiting to her production. So Powell did what any entrepreneurial spirit would do – she evolved. What began as a line of one-of-a-kind items made from repurposed vintage clothing became a line of understated and timeless designs crafted from organic fabrics. Powell does all of her own sewing and relies on vintage buttons and other eco-friendly items to give her styles a unique look. You can see her clothing at Cat Banjo and Revolver in Raleigh, as well as revampclothing.com.

Powell believes in creating sustainable clothing because she knows how harsh the fashion industry can be on our resources and is committed to being green where she can. With more and more designers embracing a green way of designing, Powell is also committed to creating a community and educating consumers on the importance of ecofriendly fashions. She is one of the brains behind Redress Raleigh, a fashion show highlighting talented eco-conscious designers in the area. Ready to revolutionize the fashion industry with their fresh, environmentally friendly approach, these designers will showcase organic, repurposed, recycled and green fashions, handbags, jewelry and accessories on April 20th at the Contemporary Art Museum, CAM Raleigh. For tickets or more information, visit redressraleigh.com and see just how far eco-friendly fashion has come! With her line of stylish clothing for women, Belinda Blakley of Belindabilly offers items

made from organic and sustainable materials that are chic, whimsical and fun. Blakley learned to sew when she was younger – not from her mother but her dad who made a dress for her when she was a flower girl in a wedding. Inspired to study fine art and fashion in school, Blakley always had an interest in fiber and materials. Being eco-friendly appeals to her as she feels it is important not just to eat organic food, but to wear organic clothing. She uses organic cotton fabrics that are dyed with low-impact dyes, stitched with organic thread, and embellished with buttons that are recycled or natural in keeping with the green theme. Blakley knows how much waste there is in the fashion industry, and she is committed to keeping that to a minimum any way she can. In fact, for her Spring 2013 collection she is having patterns created that use fabric yardage more efficiently. Now that’s an Earth-friendly idea! You can see Blakley’s collection at belindabilly.com and Redress Raleigh.

SPRING SHADES RUNWAY REPORT From lips to fingertips, spring has sprung and the sensational shades of this year's starter season span the spectrum of the color wheel! Corals, nudes and perfect peaches are just a few of the latest looks for spring and we've got what's hot when it comes to color. Written by Heather Green
••• FACE •••
••• EYES •••
It's a fresh face once again this year and clean reigns supreme on every runway from New York to Milan. Natural and nude are H-O-T but don't count out the soft shades and sunkissed skin for spring.
They say that the eyes are the window to the soul – and this window is wide open when it comes to color. From soft pastels to vibrant neons, there is truly something for everyone this season.
We start with the no makeup, less is more look with a barely there nude trend thanks to sheer foundations and tinted moisturizers. Glowing, warm, bronzed skin is a definite spring/summer must. Soft and supple describes the runway ready faces of 2012 making healthy HOT!
Ahh, pastels. Does that take you back to the good ol' 80s? Don't worry, these eyes will be lined and defined with shades of green, lavender, silver and soft baby blues that are striking but not overdone. On the flip side, bright and bold colors of neon green, blue and purple are still in and are expected to get even hotter this summer. Bronzed lids, soft eyebrows and light mascara are the other latest looks for eyes.

••• CHEEKS ••• Flushed is so fab this spring, among other looks that will have you blushing beautifully! A sweet, rosy pink flush is at the top of the to-do list, and a bold blush is a great fresh face look this year. Sun-kissed cheeks contoured with bronzer are another cheeky trend that will undoubtedly carry over into the summer of 2012.
••• LIPS ••• There's no doubt that getting the perfect pout is key when it comes to transforming your face from blah to ahh! Whether you are willing to go nude or bright and bold, the lips say it all this spring (literally). Red lips are looking lovely this season, paired with smokey eyes and barely there color on the cheeks. Gold glosses are getting glowing reviews as well! Applied over neutral lipstick shades, this gold shimmer makes your pout pop. Corals are the “safe” shade for all skin types, but if you are feeling a little festive, matted golden oranges are the dare to wear colors of spring.
••• NAILS ••• It's a virtual rainbow of colors this season! Neutral foundation-type shades are the clean and classy look for fingertips. Blues, soft and powdery as well as deep, dark navy's, are making waves as well. Think Easter hues when you choose your nail color – lavender, pink, soft green, and so on define this spring's chic shades. Last, but not least, is the fabulous fuchsia! Bright, bold and beautiful, this purplish-pink pops and is the fad fab for fingernails this spring!

STYLE SPOTLIGHT
RENAISSANCE DENTAL CENTER ••• Dr. Anita Jones Wells, Dr. Anna Abernethy, Dr. Jill Sonner ••• HOW DID THE THREE OF YOU MEET? WERE YOU FRIENDS BEFORE YOU OPENED THE PRACTICE? We met at UNC-Chapel Hill, and yes, our journey began as friends. After school, we were all working as associates for other practices. We knew, however, that we wanted something different for ourselves and for our patients. We wanted to be able to spend the time required with patients – to know them and their treatment needs. We pride ourselves for being able to provide optimal care, and for being at the forefront of treating periodontal disease and preserving and regaining patients’ dental and overall health. WHAT STRENGTHS DO YOU EACH OF YOU BRING TO THE PRACTICE? We each bring something different to the practice since we enjoy different facets of dentistry. Dr. Sonner enjoys implant supported prosthetics, Dr. Wells is highly skilled in performing oral surgery, and I love to treat children. We have also spent countless hours developing our skills to perfect restorative and cosmetic treatments for our patients. Because of our various passions in this profession, we find that we are often able to treat patients of all ages and dental conditions without having to refer them to a specialist. PLEASE TELL OUR READERS A BIT ABOUT YOURSELVES AND YOUR BACKGROUNDS. Dr. Sonner is passionate about organized dentistry and participates in legislative events promoting the same. She received her undergraduate degree from 22 | triangle style
NC State University, and during college supported the research staff at NIEHS while performing an independent study. As a graduate of the UNC Dental School, she later attended a residency program at the Fayetteville, VA Medical Center. Currently, she serves as president of her local dental society executive board and on the Eastern Community Advisory Board for Medical Security. Dr. Wells’ childhood passion was to become a dentist. She is an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the UNC Dental School. Now a faculty member at UNC, she helps prepare the dentists of tomorrow. Passionate about furthering her own education, Dr. Wells enjoys being actively involved in a number of local, state, and regional societies. She is also the past vice president of the Durham-Orange County Dental Society and has consistently been voted one of “America’s Top Dentists.” Dr. Abernethy graduated magna cum laude from Meredith College and was instrumental in Give Kids a Smile Day and the UNC Head Start Program during her tenure at the UNC Dental School. She is affiliated with the American Dental Association, American Association of Women Dentists, Academy of General Dentistry, American Association Cosmetic Dentistry, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Spear Faculty Club, Seattle Study Club, and the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society.

WHAT WOULD NEW PATIENTS BE MOST SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT RENAISSANCE DENTAL? We are addicted to continuing education! On average, we take approximately 200 continuing education hours every year (we are required to only take 15 hours – I think it’s safe to say that we LOVE to learn). This profession is constantly changing and evolving, and we feel that it is our responsibility to always stay on top of the latest technology and advances in order to consistently give our patients the very best. ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC PRODUCTS THAT YOU FIND USEFUL IN HELPING PATIENTS IMPROVE THEIR SMILES – AND, IF SO, WHICH ONES? We are huge fans of the new Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush. It has been proven to improve gum health in as little as two weeks, and guaranteed to whiten teeth twice as well as a manual toothbrush. We also like the Sonicare AirFloss, a new interdental flossing tool. This technology delivers microdroplets of air and water to remove plaque biofilm between teeth, and it is proven to be safe and gentle on gums and teeth. It can quickly clean your entire mouth in just 60 seconds. You can learn more about both products at www.sonicare.com. RENAISSANCE DENTAL HAS BEEN ACTIVE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY; WHAT CHARITABLE ENDEAVORS WILL YOU PURSUE IN 2012? We love giving back to the community that has been so supportive of us and our practice! We will continue to support local school fundraisers, sponsor sports leagues, and volunteer with the NCMOMs project. In addition to these charities, we plan to continue supporting the Helene Foundation whose mission is to help mothers fighting cancer by supporting the mother with any comforts her family needs while she is undergoing the treatment process. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT DENTISTRY THAT YOU FACE? There are actually two: the first being that dentistry is painful. Dentistry has come a long way in developing painless administration of local anesthesia. In our office, we use a prescription strength numbing agent to help reduce any “prick” you may feel from a
2/20/12
3:25 PM
Page 2
needle. The other is that dentistry is expensive. Accepting payment from insurance companies, financing from outside sources, and multiple payment options are just a few of the ways we work with our patients to ensure they are able to get the dental care they need. HOW DO YOU HELP A PATIENT OVERCOME THEIR FEAR OF GOING TO THE DENTIST? We offer a number of spa amenities to alleviate any anxiety you may have that’s associated with going to the dentist. In building this practice, one of our biggest goals was that we did not want our office to look, feel, or smell like a dental setting. We purposely wear black coats instead of white ones to help eliminate “white coat syndrome.” We also offer blankets, warm neck pillows, eye masks, paraffin hand treatments, TVs, and iPods to help make your visit more comforting. Laughing gas, pill sedation, and IV sedation are also options for high-fear patients. WHAT ARE THE LATEST TRENDS IN COSMETIC DENTISTRY? There are hundreds of tooth whitening products and systems out on the market now, so knowing which ones are actually safe and effective can be confusing. We carry Opalescence Boost, which features a unique, chemically activated formula that allows you to whiten your teeth without bothersome heat or ultraviolet rays of a light. This system also contains potassium nitrate and fluoride which help to improve oral health by strengthening enamel, decreasing sensitivity, and offering increased cavity prevention – all in about an hour. This in-office procedure is safe and effective, and offers a brighter, whiter smile after just one appointment. Another treatment we offer is Opalescence take-home whitening gels and custom trays. This system allows you to whiten your teeth at your convenience in a safe, effective, and customized way. You can achieve amazing results in just a few days, wearing the trays and whitening gel for as little as an hour a day. 3803 COMPUTER DRIVE, RALEIGH 919.786.6766 WWW.NORTHHILLSDENTISTS.COM spring | 23

One of my modern Fashion Icons is Nicole Richie. The way she mixes prints, maxi dresses and color can almost seem like a work of art. She manages to look on trend, while keeping the comfort level relatively high. Lauren Conrad, another modern day muse, lives in maxi dresses. Being a California girl at heart, it's one of her go-to, favorite pieces and Lauren does seem to own a wide variety. Being 5'7" myself, a maxi dress allows me to feel even taller and offers me the chance to wear my tallest of heels. A definite must with maxis: you need height! Which can be easily accomplished in the form of heels or wedges. This allows the dress to keep its long line intact and protects its hem from dragging along the ground. Because the print is so wildly delicious, one wouldn't want to add distraction that could possibly take away from the design. So, when it comes to choosing your accessories, try neutral based tones. Or, if you're feeling a bit bold, pick out one color from the print and expand on it. I chose the turquoise and mixed in the necklace. I wore my beige Chanel bag to add luxe, but not distract from the gorgeous printed dress.

WHY I LOVE THIS OUTFIT... Maxi Dresses are all the rage come Summer. When I lived in Miami, they were de rigueur nearly year round. The floaty, breathable fabric says yes to humidity and hot weather. Also, the no-wrinkle fabric makes great for packing. I would enjoy wearing this dress on a Summer Cruise, a casual afternoon at the beach, or even dinner on the sands. The colorful print is great for all body shapes, sizes and ages. The sleeves make it comfortable for those not wanting to bare a lot of arm, while the lower neckline allows space for displaying jewelry. spring | 25

For whatever reason I can't quite put my finger on, I have always found myself drawn to the era of the fifties and sixties. Was it the fashion? The music? Maybe a little of both. Today, modern television seems to have become equally enthralled with this particular period too. Take Pan Am and Mad Men, for example. Where the women worshiped winged eyeliner, shift dresses, gold button details and meticulously styled hair. Modern day fashion icons who seem to fair well in a sixties styled setting also inspire me today: Sienna Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway. Models then and now: Twiggy and Kate Moss; carry quite a sixties flair as well. For my look in particular, I wanted the main focus to stay on the bright color of the dress. I played up the shift with vintage, bronzed rings and a grosgrain clutch. The pretty ballerina flats pack almost as much punch as the brightly hued frock. I felt the two needed to meet. I carefully winged my upper eyelids with liquid liner, for added effect. I kept the rest of my makeup neutral and soft. I finished the look with a brightly colored pink lip. If I were on the Pan Am set today, I would gladly board the plane feeling in style whilst wearing my new, orange dress. Welcome Aboard "PAN AM"!

WHY I LOVE THIS OUTFIT... The second I spotted this dress, I had a sudden impulse to channel the nineteen sixties. Wouldn't Andy Warhol's muse, Edie Sedgwick parade around town in such a mod piece? I think she would. With orange being showcased on the fashion runways more and more, and Spring just around the bend, I wanted to give this look a go. Ballerina flats and bronze jewelry the final, finishing flair. spring | 27

Biggest Loser Winner JOHN RHODE Imagine winning $250,000. All you have to do is move to a ranch in the middle of nowhere, cut out ALL of your favorite foods and work out from sun up to sun down. It's the ultimate New Year's resolution and 41 year old John Rhode from Mesa, Arizona did more than his part to keep it. Being a father of two, special education teacher and high school football coach, one would think it would be a breeze to stay fit, but years of staying busy and putting himself last on the list caught up with John and he knew it was time to get serious. Enter the most life altering, life changing weight loss plan out there: The Biggest Loser. Going from a hefty 445 pounds to a slim 220 pounds in just a matter of months was the most difficult (and most wonderful) experience of John's life and this family man on a mission of walked away from The Biggest Loser a much healthier, much wealthier man.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO CARRY THE TITLE OF BIGGEST LOSER? DO YOU FEEL MORE PRESSURE TO STAY ON TRACK AND MAYBE EVEN PAY IT FORWARD NOW THAT YOU'VE WON? I'm definitely going to pay it forward. I'm going to pay it forward, back, sideways, up, down and around. I honestly want to help anyone and everyone within the sound of my voice if they want the help. I have a powerful message from the time that I spent at the ranch and I want to share that. I feel obligated just from being on the show, just from being given this blessed opportunity. I mean, I feel as though I have been given a brand new life. I want to make the most of this life. And whether I had won or not, I would feel obligated to share because that's what the show and this brand is about. It is about sharing.
U N I Q U E . . . E D G Y. . . A F F O R D A B L E
I have been vulnerable. I have exposed myself and my issues on TV. I want to show people it's okay to talk about things even if it's uncomfortable. It's better to talk about it than to suppress those feelings and to use food for anything other than what it is. Food is fuel. And so yes I do feel obligated – and I've prayed for this opportunity and I've been given it. I want to make the most of this obligation that I have.
Raleigh’s Cameron Village | 2014 Cameron St.
I'M CURIOUS ABOUT YOUR ADMISSION THAT THE PERSON YOU TRUSTED LEAST WAS YOURSELF. WHAT DID YOU MEAN BY THAT? Yes. You know, it's funny because I never thought of myself as someone who had trust issues before I got on the show. I've always trusted my wife and my friends and my family. But when you get in that pressure cooker situation of being at the ranch, and all those endless workouts, and all the different things that are going on – you really get stripped down to your core. And if you want to take the opportunity to look within, the opportunity is definitely there. And I looked within and figured out I didn't trust myself. And possibly didn't trust myself because of my food addiction, or just so many different failures and so many different aspects and avenues of my life.

But I'm learning to trust myself. Yes, I'm going to make mistakes. I'm going to slip up, but I need to be willing to forgive myself, pick myself up, dust myself off and say, "Today's a brand new day; go get it and go after it all over again." DURING THE COURSE OF THE SHOW WE SAW SOMETHING UNUSUAL. TWO OF THE TRAINERS, BOB AND DOLVETT, SUGGESTED YOU MIGHT BE AT RISK FOR GAINING THE WEIGHT BACK. WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU WATCHED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME? AND IS THAT TRUE, ARE YOU AT RISK? Well here's the thing: first off, yes, I am at risk and I'm very frightened about it. I take it very seriously. I'm not insulted by them saying that. They need to be honest with me. I need to be honest with myself. I'm frightened. Oh my gosh I'm frightened about that. I’m not going to let my fear and worry ruin me. But I need to be aware that it’s a possibility. That's something that could happen.

What do I do to prevent it? That's where I'm at right now. Part of my solution is running the LA Marathon. After that, I'm going to reevaluate and see what I need to do because I want to take this day by day. I don't think I've got the answers to everything. I know I've got a lot of answers, but I'm never going to be done learning – especially about myself. You know as I grow, mature, and become a little wiser about who I am, my issues might change a little bit and new things might pop up. But if I'm open and honest with myself and realize, "Yes, I've got a food addiction. And yes, I could put the weight back on" – I think that's much more of a realistic approach than, "Oh I'm at no risk. That's nonsense.” I just think it's time to be open and honest. And I appreciate them for their honesty and speaking from their hearts. That's the emotional component that I think is going to help me keep the weight off.

SINCE YOU'RE A TEACHER AND YOU COACH FOOTBALL, DO YOU THINK THAT YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE EVERYTHING YOU'VE LEARNED ON THE RANCH AND GUIDE YOUR PLAYERS AND YOUR STUDENTS ON TO LEAD HEALTHIER LIVES – ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDHOOD OBESITY BEING SUCH AN ISSUE? Oh, absolutely. And I've already been working with Jeremy Hathcock, the head varsity coach at Desert Ridge High School. As we speak, we’re working on putting together an off-season program. And I'm going to get those kids where they feel like they have some power. I want to empower them to be able to take control of their destiny. We need to nip this in the bud and it's got to start somewhere. It might as well start at Desert Ridge High School. OBVIOUSLY BEING AT THE RANCH IS NOT EASY FOR ANYONE; IT'S A HUGE CHALLENGE. BUT FOR YOU SPECIFICALLY, WHAT WERE SOME OF THE GREATEST CHALLENGES AS WELL AS YOUR MOTIVATORS? The most difficult part of being at the ranch, for me, was being away from my wife and my kids. I knew exactly what my wife was going through. I knew it was rough even though she wouldn't let on in her letters. I knew that she was having a tough time; I could just feel it. And not only was that the toughest thing for me, but it was also a huge part of my motivation. I used those feelings of obligation to my wife to convince myself to push through the tough days. And I got into this routine where it wasn't so difficult with the workouts. It was just difficult to be away from home for that extended period of time. But clearly, it was worth it. AND WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING ON DOING WITH THE PRIZE MONEY? Oh, I'll tell you what. I am going to try and be responsible. My wife would like a car. We're not going to get a new car – we're going to get a “new-to-her car.” But she wants a car and I want her to have it. And we're going to pay some debt down and put some money away for a rainy day. I'm definitely ready to spoil my wife, but it will be responsible spoiling. TS

After looking down at my hands I finally connected that dots; I should have used sunscreen on them every day! I ran to the drugstore and bought my first container of Porcelana Fade Cream. (It has been around for 40+ years...and I figure anything (one) that has been around for 40+ years must have real quality going! Within two weeks my "age spots" were getting lighter and within a month even lighter still. The spots on my face are almost not noticeable at all. The container says to give it three months. SHOPPING TIPS FOR SPRING
SHOPPING THE NEW SEASON’S TRENDS SHOULD BE A PLEASURE. BUT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, TRAWLING STORES FOR NEW CLOTHES CAN BE A CHORE. HERE’S OUR ADVICE ON MAKING YOUR SPRING SHOPPING SPREE A JOY.
MAKE A PLAN The most important rule is to shop with a plan. After a winter spent swaddled in dark clothes, it’s no surprise that the first glimmer of spring sunshine makes you dissatisfied with every outfit in your wardrobe. With the new season’s pastel colors and eccentric prints hitting the stores, you’ll be tempted to shop with careless abandon, sweeping armfuls of items you’ll never wear into your basket like a kid in a candy store. When you get home, you’ll look through your many bags and feel anxious about the dollars you’ve spent and wonder: why on earth did I buy that?

DO YOUR RESEARCH To help with the planning stage, it’s a good idea to do your research. Flick through magazines or go online to see what catwalk trends are filtering to city streets. For spring 2012, pastels seen in designer collections from Prada to Jonathan Saunders are everywhere. In particular, confetti colors of daffodil, mint, rose, apricot, lilac and aqua blue are big news. But how will you wear the trend? Depending on how bold you are with your wardrobe – and your age – you could wear several different pastel shades together. If you are over 40 or like to keep it subtle, you could choose a sheer pastel blouse worn with an existing dark or neutral trouser for the office. The same idea applies to prints. If you’re a 20-something fashion diva, more is more with mismatched prints. For most, choosing a print blouse paired with plain bottoms is the best way to wear the trend.
BUDGET BEWARE Okay, now for practicalities: the budget. This is an important thing to bear in mind when you’re under pressure from advertisers at every turn telling you to flex your credit card. Knowing you have $300 to spend will help you decide which stores to go into and what racks

EDIT YOUR WARDROBE Think about how you can incorporate new trends into your existing closet. Before shopping, sort out any clothes that don’t fit or that you haven’t worn for months and donate them to a local charity. Now review what you have left. Dark pencil-skirts, plain blouses, and cardigans are staples that can be updated by pairing with key pieces from this season’s trends. Perhaps you have a dark dress that you really love – why not buy a pastel belt or a cardigan to update the look? Other fabulous trends are Gatsby inspired glamour (drop waists and tasseled trims), brightly colored florals, and clothes with a sporty streak. Once you’ve worked out which trends you like, create a purchase list that will enhance what you already own and stick to it!

to search. If you’re really savvy, you can shop for bargains too. Keep an eye out for designer sample sale dates, or buy a vintage piece in a thrift store that is in keeping with current trends but completely unique. Then, of course, there’s eBay. Out of all the pastel dresses that will be sold to fashion conscious women this month, a fair few of them will end up on eBay shortly thereafter. That’s where you may be able to find a new wardrobe on a tight budget. DRESS FOR SHOPPING Armed with all this information, you’re ready to hit the stores. Go with a full stomach and dressed in comfortable clothes. It sounds basic, but dressing appropriately can completely change your shopping experience. If you get too hot you’ll end up buying a sundress you can’t wear for three months. And if you’re too cold, you’ll be gazing at the wintry woollies. Remember to pay attention to undergarments too; an ill-fitting black bra won’t look great under a sheer pastel dress! Wear clothes that are easy to get on and off, consider bringing heels, and be sure to do your hair and make-up as you’re going to be staring at yourself alot in those dressing room mirrors. Finally, choose a shoulder bag to carry your things in. You’ll need your hands free.

CHOOSE FRIENDS WISELY You might prefer to shop by yourself, but if you really think you need a second opinion, think carefully about whom to ask. Your husband or partner is bound to tell you that you look fabulous in everything you try on – but can you trust him, or does he just want to get out of there? Another problem with men is that they tire easily. While you might be able to go on a shopping marathon without pausing for breath, he will most likely flag much too early, claiming to need coffee/snacks/sleep. With him ruled out, which friend should you ask? Anyone too beautiful and perfect might make you feel unconfident trying on new styles, especially if she tries the same thing

on in the next cubicle. Anyone with jealousy issues might sabotage your shopping spree by convincing you to buy something you look awful in. Then there are family members like your mom or daughter. Does either one really know your style, or would they end up dressing you in what they would choose? Unless you have a friend you can absolutely trust, it’s probably a good idea to ask the salesperson for her advice. DRESSING ROOM DANGER Dressing rooms are either awful or amazing. Some seem to have lights in all the wrong places and mirrors that make you look twice as big as you really are. Others – and these are the clever ones – are well lit, have slimming mirrors and sales staff complimenting you at every turn. So, beware the dressing room. Consider the lighting and the mirrors while trying on new items. If an item of clothing doesn’t seem to fit quite right but looks okay in a dimly lit dressing room, don’t buy it. Or take it into a brightly lit one and see what happens. Also, take time to check the fit and the quality. Are the zippers and buttons working? Will it wash well? What will that color look like in daylight? QUESTION YOURSELF Finally, you’ve pulled together a stash of lovely new looks and you’re standing at the checkout with your debit card burning a hole in your hand. Check the returns policy and then, at the eleventh hour, ask yourself three very important questions – Can I wear this with anything in my wardrobe? Do I really need it? Will it make me happy? Once you’ve worked out the answers to those three key questions, act accordingly. Good luck!

Jet Setting Hair Spring into the New Year with bouncy waves! Long locks with loose curls are what's hot on the spring 2012 runways. Sport a center part like Bridget Bardot to give a carefree 70's vibe, as seen on Chloe models during Paris Fashion Week. Center parts look great with added volume to the crown and pulled half up! For fashionistas wanting to be more polished, use the side part with brushed out curls to give a soft 40's Veronica Lake pinup do. Both short bobs and long hair look great with the side part and waves! The accessory of the season is the headscarf. Evolving from the 40's to the 70's, the headscarf will turn heads, bringing more attention to the face and makeup pallet of choice. The scarf can be worn both with hair down and pulled up, as seen in spring shows of Luca Luca and Anna Sui. Remember The Old Town Square? It was dotted with shops, cafÊs and offices — a place with a friendly atmosphere where you didn't need a car to get from one place to another. TRENDY DECOR IDEAS THAT TAKE YOU FROM DRAB TO FAB!
WALLS THAT WOW
As cabin fever turns to spring fever, we often start to lust in our hearts for some new “eye candy” to make things feel fresh and exciting again ... for our walls, of course! After a long winter of hunkering down at home, walls that used to look fab now just look dated and drab. Luckily for you, we’ve uncovered some of the latest trends in wall coverings and wall decor that will make sure your heart is still happy at home. Written By Audrey D. Mark

DON’T LET YOUR WALLS JUST STAND THERE...LIKE WALLS It’s time to take the way your pad looks personally. Area experts agree that what’s hot this spring is filling your home with things that have special meaning for you and your loved ones. A collection of photographs, grouping of treasured trinkets, or a piece of art that really speaks to you is what will make your heart skip a beat when it comes to your walls. According to Neal Blevins, store manager and buyer for ECKO Home Furnishings in Raleigh, what is on your walls may not always be as important as where it is. “Home decor is like the fashion industry, it changes with the sun,” says Blevins. He suggests that everything old can be new again by adding a few updated accessories and simply rearranging what you’ve already got. “If you don’t move things around every so often, after a while you’re not really seeing and enjoying it anymore.”
This season, Blevins’ absolute fave for his clients is colorful abstract paintings that are open to interpretation – and make a great addition to any home art collection. He likes to create energy and interest with “artwork that is done in mixes of color like reds and deep rich blues which really stand out.” This is especially compelling when hung on a neutral colored background.

Also featured for spring at ECKO is a collection of wire baskets and metal wall hangings that bring exciting texture and dimension to otherwise flat surfaces. Blevins says, “It’s great to mix these with framed family photos and fabulous flea market finds,” to really make it your own. GO FOR THE BOLD Accessories are also a big part of the scene at Palm Avenue, the Lilly Pulitzer signature store in Cameron Village. They’re a “low commitment” way for folks to break into the bright and bold color palate this tropical shop specializes in. Home manager Caroline Carter, ASID, says her clients are experimenting more with “found objects” like their threedimensional sea urchins and platters that can go from table top to wall this season. She likes to create groupings by hanging them in multiples for an eye-catching look. Gold trimmed frames, oversized prints and mirrors are also hot this spring as the weather heats. At Palm Avenue, fabric isn’t just for furniture. Carter says that fantastic fabrics in colorful combinations like orange and pink make excellent wall coverings. You can really update your space with creative upholstered wall paneling or wainscoting, complete with decorative nail heads and trim. “These look great, especially as an accent under a chair rail,” says Carter. GRAY IS THE NEW BEIGE Even if your individual style is more understated, you can still make a statement. Try something a little trendy like a lively color or textured wallpaper – but just cover one wall. Jodi Schavone, decorator and owner of Decor Coach (DecorCoach.com) in Apex, says that clients can create a show-stopper look

and save money by accenting a single wall with dramatically patterned paper (such as the slightly metallic grass cloth from Palm Avenue), or painting in a bold color that may otherwise overpower if done on multiple surfaces. Schavone likes to highlight hints of color by painting the back walls of bookshelves, and creating more contrast by switching out boring black photo frames with for white ones with wide white mats. This works especially well when paired with gray walls, this season’s new neutral color. Gray is the new beige! “At ECKO, the big color story is a soft gray, from dove to charcoal,” says Blevins. Like Schavone, he’s urging clients to move away from tans and browns because they can age a room.
Page 4
In fact, by simply looking at your wall color, Blevins and Schavone can practically carbon date your last paint job. Walls of wedgwood blue and mauve? According to Schavone, your place hasn’t seen a paint roller since the ‘80s. Cranberry red and hunter green? Yeah, that looked nice in the ‘90s. Are your walls covered in chocolaty brown, steel blue or the rich reds, golds and green of Tuscany? Your room is totally 2010! Today, going gray never looked so good. There are so many shades and undertones to pick from, with a little patience (okay, maybe a lot), you can choose a more modern gray. Green or gold undertones produce a warm feel; cooler shades have more blues in their base. Gray is truly a vibrant and versatile neutral. Schavone suggests that “marine colors with lots of blues and

greens” will be darlings of this decade. But before you pack up those paint brushes, it’s important to give your ceiling a coat about three shades lighter than your walls (except for red, as that turns pink) to make your white crown molding something to crow about! WALLS DO TALK GIVE THEM SOMETHING NICE TO SAY Talk may be cheap, but when it comes to vinyl wall lettering and decals, you sure can get a lot of bang for your buck! For well under $50, companies like Wall Written (wallwritten.com) and Uppercase Living (uppercaseliving.com) can create a substantially sized custom quote from an amazing assortment of colorful and durable vinyls. Now everyone can read – and design – the writing on the wall. Check out Wall Written’s free 30 minute interactive online design session that puts you

and one of their designers literally on the same page at the same time. Or simply chose from pages of predesigned pieces. These are great for filling your home with everything from inspirational scripture and fabulous scripted monograms to favorite sayings and song lyrics. They are easy to install and remove, so it’s super simple to give your walls something new to talk about. One piece designers really see cleaning up is dressing up your laundry room with a quirky quote or two to help lighten the load. PICTURE THIS... If a picture is worth a thousand words, just imagine how much a gigantic photo mural could bring. Outfitters like Great Wall (greatwallonline.com) and Murals Your Way (muralsyourway.com) can take your tiny photographs and transform them into dramatic sweep-

ing murals that can cover a wall – or entire room full of them. They’re surprisingly affordable and truly transformative. You can use a single image or work with designers to create a jumbo collage from a collection of your favorite old family photos, or even your children’s artwork. Prints are available in color, black and white, or sepia tones and they are available on residue-free and repositionable paper – which is great for fickle decorators, renters, or dorm rooms. Another trendy option Great Wall offers is visually “textured” wallpaper, created from realistic photos of fabric like hounds tooth and a myriad of tiles. This can be an incredibly cost effective way to get the look of high end materials for less money and hassle. Great Wall’s Nicole Steele says her company can also match older and vintage wallpapers for minor repairs or whole room re-dos. We’d love to be a fly on the wall when you give these trendy trips a try! We think you’ll like them so much, your walls won't just talk – they'll sing! Go ahead, write on the Triangle Style Magazine Facebook wall and keep us posted. A Primer With A Few Highlights Schavone is a firm believer in the power of paint. In fact, she offers her clients a class on how to pick the perfect palate for their homes. Here’s a crash course with a few of highlights:
• Colors have personality! Pick a shade that matches the mood you want to feel when you are in a particular room – not necessarily because it’s your favorite color. spring | 61
TSM WALLS:TSM Beauty Myths
2/21/12
8:18 AM
• Reds, oranges and yellows can feel warm and cozy. • Blues and greens can be airy, light and breezy. • Purple can seem regal and royal and is great for a room with a more elegant and formal feel. • Deep, rich colors can feel festive, fun and refresh. • When picking a neutral (like gray, tan or white), be mindful of its complex undertones. For example, a gray with blue undertones can feel cool and open, while one with a purplish tint can give off a swanky sophisticated vibe. • Yellows can be tricky. Most folks don’t really want yellow, but rather beige with a hint of yellow in it.
62 | triangle style
Page 7
• If you find a shade you absolutely love, it’s best to buy it directly from that manufacturer. While they all claim to be able to mix color formulas, often the bases are slightly different from company to company which can alter the final shade. • Try before you buy! Always purchase a small sample of your selected color and paint it on a poster board. This way, you can move it around your room in the changing light of the day. Plus, those samples aren’t always made with the same finish and can leave a textured area on your wall that will always look a little different. .

THE EXPERTS SPEAK
Closet Organization Secrets From Custom Closets Today’s fast-paced life demands so much of our time and energy and the rush to get out the door in the morning requires a method to the madness. Here are three basic steps to organizing your closet to help you get out the door 5 minutes faster! The very first step is to Take EVERYTHING out of your closet, sort the clothes, and create a system to stay organized. TAKE IT OUT To get a fresh view of your storage space it’s best to take EVERYTHING out of the closet. Shoes, clothes, storage bins, boxes, etc all need to come out so that the closet is bare. Once you’ve done that you can move onto step 2, sort it out. SORT IT OUT Label four totes – KEEP, DONATE, STORE, TOSS. If you want your closet to be organized you have to make decisions based on practicality over emotion. In the KEEP bin, stack only those things that you have used in the last year, nothing else should stay. In the DONATE bin, place those gently used items that are now out of style, or don’t fit. Within the STORE bin place the items that you plan to use 3-6

months from now. Many choose to store based on season and only keep one or two season’s worth of clothes out, the rest get stored to save valuable space. TOSS is probably the most difficult. If you have not worn an item for over a year, it’s time to discard or store if it is sentimental. For sentimental items you may consider also photographing the item if you don’t plan to wear again unless you plan to pass it on to family. STAY ORGANIZED This is a final and crucial step to keeping your closet tidy and you ready for the next day. Three basic ways to organize are by color, by category such as dresses, skirts and blouses, and by season. Once you’ve organized your closet you should plan to organize and reorganize every 3-6 months to keep your wardrobe organized and in season.

SOME OTHER USEFUL TIPS FOR A CLUTTER-FREE CLOSET INCLUDE: • Designate a space to put your outfit together the night before – saving you the morning rush! • Implement the one in, one out rule; when you buy something new, look to get rid of something old. • Remember, donating is a great way to help the community. HUNGER GAMES
Often when you are trying to lose a few pounds, there is no fun involved. You grit your teeth, and resolve to go without all the foods you love. It’s no wonder many people fail in their attempts! How about having some fun with the journey? If you change your perspective, you can smile and lose weight at the same time! Look at lower calorie substitutions another way—according to Harvard University’s Harvard Health Newsletter, the average person burns between 120 and 78 calories in a brisk 30-minute walk. If you simply cut 120 calories from the food choice you are making right now—voila! Instead of feeling deprived, you can feel good—you’ve accomplished the equivalent of a 30-minute walk in calorie loss, by simply by making a substitution.

AT THE COFFEE SHOP: Simple substitutions can save calories and still provide you with your favorite flavors. Substitute skim milk for 2%; ask for flavors like cinnamon instead of using flavor “shots.” If you must have a flavor shot, ask the barista to “go light.” Choose artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. Look for menu selections designated “light.” Subway and Taco Bell both have items designated on their menus that are less than 500 calories. Choose broiled selections instead of fried. Water is a dieter’s best friend. A recent study showed that people who drank two cups of water before each meal ate close to 100 fewer calories. Compared to the group who didn’t drink water before meals, the water drinkers lost more weight and also kept it off for a longer period of time. Drinking generous amounts of water may also reduce joint and muscle soreness after exercising, and prevents constipation often experienced with high-fiber diets. Water-based soups are also a good-low calorie choice. Unlike cream based soups like potato, water-based soups like vegetable, chicken-noodle, and broth provide a warm, filling meal with very few calories. Avoid breads and instead supplement your meal with fruits or vegetables or a handful of almonds.

TRIANGLE STYLE TIPS
Car Care
Ride Sally, Ride... Most women treat their vehicles like they do their significant others; if they aren’t making strange noises, blowing smoke, smelling weird or leaking in the driveway...we assume that they’re okay. According to Donna Rogers, of Autohaus in Raleigh, this is not the healthiest relationship to have - even with your four-wheeled partner. When it comes to car care, Rogers says, “The first thing to be aware of is that your vehicle needs to be regularly maintained to stay in optimal running condition.” “You really need keep on top of it,” she continues, “Cars are expensive! This will help maximize its longevity and fuel efficiency.”

While Rogers contends that in the past, “Most women have turned it over vehicle maintenance to someone else.” “Today”, she explains, “The industry is more aware of women’s major purchasing power and decision making.” In fact, several shops like Autohaus and A & J Automotive in Raleigh have gone great lengths to become officially certified as “Female Friendly” and have made a commitment to working with and educating women about their cars and how to take care of them. Autohaus offers free seminars several times a year and Rogers has posted some helpful, and sometimes hilarious, videos on YouTube about car care and safety. Both Rogers and Tom Collins, Service Manager of A& J Automotive, have shared some important pointers to keep you and your vehicle living life in the fast lane: • Read you owners manual! Rogers says it’s the best bathroom reading around - and filled with lots of very valuable information. Don’t you wish your kids came with one? • Change your oil regularly. Collins says every 5,000 to 7,500 miles is fine, unless you’re a real road warrior, then you’ll need to change it every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. • Pay careful attention to that rubber that meets the road. Check your tires regularly for air and wear. Keep them properly inflated at the pressure indicated by your owners manual, (and posted on the inside of your front door panel), and note the condition of your treads. While you’re at it, check the sidewalls for any nicks, too. If you see any uneven wear in your tread, your steering wheel starts pulling to one side, or you feel shaking or vibrating as your drive, you may need to be rebalanced or a new alignment. Tirelessly care for your tires and you’ll ride smoother, safer and save money in the long run. • There are over 50 reasons why your “Check Engine Light” can come on, so don’t bother trying to “Google it”! Just get your
Page 2
vehicle over to a trusted automotive shop as soon as possible and have a professional accurately pinpoint the diagnosis. • Have your engine and air filters changed regularly. This will keep the air being pulled through your engine clean and its internal components from clogging up. This can increase your fuel efficiency. What you save at the pump - you can spend on a cute pair of pumps! • Go with the flow of the fluids...and learn which fluids go where. Check your owners manual to learn which receptacles hold your transmission, break, power steering and window washer fluids, along with where your antifreeze and oil goes. You never know when you may run low and have to top them off! • Being able to change your own tire will certainly earn you bragging rights - but it’s not always the safest, (or tidiest), thing to do! Your best bet is to sign up for AAA, or some other roadside assistance program. Some insurance companies, credit cards and car makers include this as part of their service, so ask! Also, keep the name of a reliable local towing company and automotive shop programmed in your cell phone, in case you need to reach them directly. Canned flat-fixing products really should be limited to dire emergencies only, as they be ineffective on a major tire ruptures and it can cause permanent tire damage if not quickly removed by a tire professional, especially in vehicles that are equipped with tire pressure monitors. • Keep a working flashlight in your car, along with a basic first aid kit, a fresh bottle of water, an energy bar, a small blanket and any important medical information about your and/or your passengers in your vehicle. It’s also handy to have flares, cones, a tire gauge, jumper cables and a backup plan. Remember, when it comes to you and your car; Safety ALWAYS comes first!

FRIED RICE – YOUR WAY
Whether it's bok choy and mushrooms you love or carrots and cabbage … create your perfect dish. This is a great way to get your family to eat their veggies! Two vegetable combinations to try: • 1 bunch bok choy, rinsed, trimmed and cut into one inch pieces, and • 8 ounce package of mushrooms, cleaned and sliced or • 1 small head of Napa Cabbage, or half a large head, rinsed and chopped, and • 4 medium carrots, peeled, sliced and blanched in boiling water for about 5-7 minutes until tender • • • • • •
4 cups cooked rice, cold 5 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 small onion, chopped 1 clove of garlic, minced 1 tsp. ginger, grated 4 eggs
For the sauce – these ingredients can be found in most grocery stores near the soy sauce: • 2 tsp. sesame seed oil • 2 tsp. oyster sauce • 2 tsp. chili garlic sauce, add more or less, depending on how spicy you like it • 1/2 tsp soy sauce
72 | triangle style
In a small bowl combine the sauce ingredients and set aside. In a large pan, heat 2 tablespoons of the oil and add the onions, sautéing for about 2-3 minutes. Add the remaining vegetables and very lightly season with salt. (Not too much salt, you'll be adding the sauce at the end.) Sauté for about 5 minutes until tender, but still firm. Add the ginger and garlic and continue cooking until fragrant, stirring frequently. Remove all the vegetables to a plate and keep warm. Add another tablespoon of oil to the same pan and scramble the eggs until cooked, remove to the plate with the cooked vegetables to keep warm. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil to the pan and increase the heat to medium high. Add the cold rice and stir fry very quickly, being sure the rice is well coated with oil. Add the cooked vegetables and about 4 tablespoons of the sauce, stir to combine over the heat. Add the remaining sauce to taste. Serves 4-6

AGING GRACEFULLY Written by Lou Scott
When my daughter telephoned to tell me she was pregnant with triplets, I went into shock. I have absolutely no idea what I said - just that my mouth dropped open and I stumbled over something encouraging. “It’s okay Mom, I couldn’t believe it either.” It had been over twenty-five years since her youngest son was born and I was worried. She must have been too. When she saw her high-risk pregnancy doctor, he set her mind at ease: the babies and she would be carefully monitored the whole way through. And furthermore, a marathoner, she was in better shape than most women half her age, though he added, “multiples can be a little more complicated no matter how old you are.” “Mom, I can do this,” she said.
Barbara Rihl, Paris

She convinced me. As time went by, I became used to the idea of triplets. Nonetheless, I couldn’t resist picturing three little babies crying all at once, all lined up in a row, three little two-year olds throwing temper tantrums -- it was simply unfathomable. So I fast forwarded my imagination to the time when they would be three well-behaved, wellscrubbed five-year olds going off to the bus stop on their first day of school. Awwh, now that, that’s really sweet. Even though she had been pregnant for only a couple of months, I just couldn’t restrain myself any longer. I had to break the news. I told my book group, garden club, walking group, neighbors down the street, the mail carrier. I even told people I didn’t know: the waitress where I had my morning coffee; the man who wheeled me through the airport, the woman behind the ticket booth at the movie theater. In short, I told
AGING GRACEFULLY Spring11:TSM Beauty Myths
everyone. They were astonished. “Triplets? Ohh, my.” When I told them her age every single person added, “Ohh, my God.” Soon the ultrasound photos came and it was a marvelous thing to be able to see them. In fact I became quite attached to the idea. Sitting with my text messaging turned on, staring at it in fact, I waited for the big news, which came about forty-five long minutes apart: “Baby A is a boy. Baby B is a girl. Baby C is a girl --Identical twin girls. As time went on, I began to worry about them. Poor Baby B; she didn’t have any room at all, the smallest and no wonder. But all was well with my daughter and she sent weekly “belly shots” to prove it. Still looking radiant and very happy -- still working at the same hospital and still running. At her 32nd week, however, her face showed signs of fatigue, even looked a little puffy I thought. At 33 weeks she had trouble walking but insisted on doing it anyway, said she was going to keep on moving as long as she

could, walking to Starbucks every day for her morning latte. It was painful to see her move, as if every step was an effort, but she said resting would be worse. At the beginning of the 34th week, she developed swollen ankles and had trouble breathing. Four days later her doctor sent to the hospital, because her blood pressure had soared. The decision to have a C section was difficult; she wanted to hold on, but Baby B wouldn’t let her. Though the babies were born smaller than expected, they were all happily born breathing on their own. All looked perfect! Both she and her husband are optimists, and that’s a very good place to begin, for they will be up every three hours feeding three little babies, leaving enough time for 1 1/2 hours of sleep in between. Knowing them, with some strategically placed help, they will probably do just fine. As for me? Well not too many grandmothers get to brag about triplets.

ASK ANNA HI Anna, Curious about makeup primers, do they really make a difference how your makeup looks? Thanks Jennifer Jennifer, I generally don't recommend primers as they typically have emulsifiers and "binders" in them which can clog the pores. If you have oilier skin then often times makeup will not wear as well so I understand why a primer may seem necessary as the main intent of primers is to "hold" the makeup to the skin longer. Jane Iredale (my favorite mineral makeup) makes a really great oil absorption product you apply which before your foundation and helps your makeup wear longer. Additionally I suggest you use a hydrating serum instead of a prior to applying your foundation; I also recommend using a light weight foundation and finishing it with a mineral pressed powder. Typically mineral makeup lasts longer (you can literally workout with it on, sweat but it won't wear off) than regular makeup, so you may find by switching brands you do not have the need for a primer anymore. Best- Anna

MOVIE NIGHT Written by Heather S. Parsons • heather@trianglestyle.com
NOMINATED FOR... A Better Life Demián Bichirs was nominated for best actor for his portrayal of a decent hardworking man, who years before had crossed the border from Mexico in order to find a better life. Working long days as a landscaper in Los Angeles, the sole parent of a teenage son who is in danger of falling in with the wrong crowd, he is doing all he can. Consequently when his boss tells him he is going back to Mexico to buy a small farm and wants to sell his tools and truck, his sister insists on giving him a loan to buy them. On the first day of working for himself, however, both the truck and tools are stolen. His son, on the brink of getting into drugs, reluctantly helps to find them. The Help Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, and Jessica Chastain were nominated for Oscars for this appealing and relatively light hearted film. Set in the Jackson, Mississippi of the 1950s, it is primarily the story of two black women who work in the homes of middle class white women, quite often raising their children. Even though invited to feel part of the families for whom they work, they must either go quietly without a fuss when they are no longer useful or stand silently by when ridiculed -- sent on their way without a thought, often leaving behind the children whom they have grown to love and whom have grown to love them in return.
Radio Days Another Woody Allen movie that received a best original writing nomination, this is sheer nostalgia, a sweet and amusing tale about a wacky Jewish family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who in the late 1930s and early 1940s, all live under one roof, in one apartment. Their lives, woven in and out of the programs on the radio, begin with the breakfast shows, then move on to soap operas, sports, cooking shows and situation comedies. But they’re not the only family whose lives revolve around the radio. In the apartment across the way, what do they see? Why, it’s their little boy’s schoolteacher, 80 | triangle style
wearing only a towel and dancing her heart away to a song that’s playing on the radio .
The Woman in the Window One evening while walking to his club, a professor of criminal law stops in front of a portrait of a beautiful woman in the window of an art gallery. There’s something mysterious about her, something that takes a firm hold on him and thus when she appears alongside him from out of the fog, he agrees to go back to her apartment to see her other paintings. Once there, a jealous “client” pushes his way inside and attacks the professor, bearing down with a knife and with no way out, the professor kills him. Picking up the phone to call the police, he hesitates, then puts it back down again. Realizing his wife would know where he has been, he’s caught in a web of spiraling despair, especially so when his closest friend, a detective, becomes eerily suspicious. Edward G Robinson and Joan Blondell star in this classic. The Artist, nominated for best picture and best actor, this is a film they will be showing in film classes for years to come. For it’s a magical portrayal of the end of the silent film era and those stars who were left behind when neither their voices nor their mannerisms carried them through. An excellent film, a unique film, you will like it.
Descendants, nominated for best picture and best actor, this is a quietly powerful film. George Clooney portrays a wealthy landowner who is devastated after his wife has a boating accident that leaves her in a coma. His eldest daughter, so angry that he doesn’t know her mother was having an affair, tells him so, adding that she had intended to divorce him. Stunned, he really had no idea what had been going on at home. Now he realizes his wife was lonely, his eldest daughter was into drugs and his youngest was having problems at school. How does he deal with all that anger? What does he do with all that grief? With sensitivity, sprinkled with humor, he finds a way how.
