Trinity Outlook: June 2013

Page 1

The Rev. Andrew Wright has been called to serve as our new Associate Rector for Families, Children and Young Adults. Father Andrew was raised in the Episcopal Church, growing up in the North Panhandle town of Borger, Texas. He met his wife, Melanie, while a student at TCU and was part of Trinity's own campus ministry throughout college. Shortly after college and their wedding, the Wrights moved to Sewanee, Tenn., for Andrew to begin his seminary studies. He graduated with a Master of Divinity from Sewanee in 1995 and was ordained by Bishop Sam Hulsey on June 4th that year. Andrew has since worked in Tennessee, Nebraska, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and, home at last, in Texas, serving parishes along the way as Assistant, Rector, Priest-incharge, and most currently as Rector of Saint Anne Episcopal Church in DeSoto, Texas. Andrew received a Master of Sacred Theology degree in 2003 from the General Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Theology degree in Liturgical Theology in 2012 from General as well. His wife, Melanie, is also an Episcopal priest, ordained in 2006, and serves St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Arlington as priest-incharge. The Wrights have three children, Aidan (19 at UTA), Benjamin (17), and Macrina (13). Aside from youth, children, family, and campus ministry, Andrew has an abiding interest in theater, science, and storytelling in all its forms. Father Andrew's first day in the church office will be Tuesday, July 9. His first Sunday at Trinity will be July 14.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1: 8 Beloved, you are powerful. Your faithfulness, your generosity, and your life led in the context of Christian community is a powerful witness in a culture that claims scarcity, anxiety, and independence at all costs. You are a living witness of the love Jesus Christ has for all people. That you offer hope in response to despair, say a prayer in the midst of fear, lend a hand when work is overwhelming, or share resources with those needing food, shelter, and funds reflects God’s power in the world. When our Ministry Groups gather to pray, support each other, and answer God’s call to serve, they step into God’s powerful presence in this world. In ministry together we become a force that counters the cultural messages that separate our society so effectively. Now that is power: The power of faith, hope, and love. Grace and peace,

Looking back. Looking ahead.

Join us on Sunday, June 9 at 10:40 a.m. for a Trinity Forum like no other. “God’s Geeks” will be on hand for the first in a series of technology how-to sessions. On the 9th we’ll cover some social media basics and get you acquainted with Trinity’s Facebook page. Bring your laptops, tablet computers and smartphones to get hands-on help from our tech-support volunteers.

Back in March we encouraged parishioners to attend Easter Vigil services at other churches and share your experiences with Trinity’s liturgical planning team. Your insights will help shape worship for 2014! Please join us for an open forum on Wednesday, June 12 at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall to discuss what you learned from the Vigil you attended.

Parents get the night out while the kiddos enjoy fun and games here at the church! Parents can drop off children from 4:45 to 5 p.m., then proceed to the home of Al Mathé and Sarah Matches, 4201 Warnock Court, Fort Worth, 76109. Children should be picked up no later than 8:15 p.m. For more information, contact Brandy Bacon: mkbrandar@yahoo.com.

The next issue of our e-magazine, The Trinity Episcopalian, will hit the virtual newsstand at the end of this month. Your contributions are needed—ministry updates, essays, devotionals, photos, original artwork, etc. Send submissions to the communications manager at communications@fortworthtrinity.org.
