“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17 Have you been looking for gifts? Other than those with a summer birthday, looking for gifts at this time of year may not be on our minds. And yet God gives us more gifts that we notice, more gifts than we can count, and more gifts than we deserve. God gives and gives and gives. God does not wait for us to ask, nor does God expect for us to earn gifts; God simply gives because of limitless and deep love for each of us. Not so sure if this applies to you? Then I invite you to join me in some summer homework. Look for God’s gifts this summer. At the beginning of the day, ask God to help you see the gifts of the day. At the end of the day, take a look back and identify the gifts God has given you. If you are a list maker, keep a list of God’s gift this summer. There are many things that can be done with that list, but how can we start if we are oblivious to the gifts God showers on us? So first things first, start looking for God’s gifts. First summer gift for me? Father Andrew Wright. Finding Father Andrew was a surprise and delight for the search team of parents that gathered for many months discerning who would join our ministry. We are all convinced that his love and dedication to younger generations are God’s gift to the children, families, and young adults who worship at Trinity. My list has begun – how about yours?
