FROM THE PULPIT It hasn’t been exactly summer like, spring is here, it would seem, according to the creatures in the backyard. The redwing blackbirds and all their friends have returned to the feeders. The Welcome to Trinity-St. ducks, mallards, herons and turkeys are back. The coyotes are wandering as well, reminding everyone to keep a close eye on our Andrew's United Church in small pets. I have not seen the beavers yet, but I imagine they are Brighton, Ontario. TSA Trumpet

POINT-OF-VIEW

May 2017 TSA Trumpet is the newsletter of Trinity-St Andrew's United Church. Our goal is to inform members and adherents of the activities and upcoming events in our fatih community MANAGING EDITOR Brian Ostrander COPY EDITOR Tammy Ostrander PUBLISHER TSA Public Relations & Publicity Committee Trinity-St Andrew's United Church 58 Prince Edward Street Brighton, Ontario K0K 1H0 613-475-1311 www.trinitystandrews.ca

Well, for the first time since taking on the Trumpet I ran into the two issues that no editor likes to be confronted with, not enough time to get the job done (thus the late publication) AND too many articles to fit a 12 page edition, but not enough to fit into our normal 16 page edition. I do what I can to first place the advertisers (the folks who pay the freight) - then the articles from our faith community that are timely (with specific dates or recent news) - then other local articles and finally other articles from advertisers or the United Church in general. May's edition? A little lighter to carry but jam packed with information.

Several of our Jamaican workers have been back since late March, pruning two local Apple orchards. At least one of them will be in need of a winter coat (size medium or large) when cold fall weather returns. Work boots in various sizes are always needed as well. Anyone who can help with these items is asked to contact: Sharon Graham (613-475-2094) or Janet Enns (613-475-5472).

Please join our UCW members on June 8th at 5:00 pm for a Pot Luck Dinner in our hall. We’re celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the launch of UCW’s across Canada (replacing the previous women’s groups – Women’s Association (WA) and Women’s Missionary Society (WMS). The program will include worship, fellowship and some interesting entertainment with speaker, Lisa Sherwin-O’Leary. Her Topic: Laughing Yoga Please join with us for this event. The UCW’s Mission is to love God: foster Christian commitment, faithfulness, and spirituality; and promote respect and love for all God’s creation.

Coffee time by Wendy Zinck In addition to our regular Sunday coffee hour, the Hospitality Committee was busy on May 1st doing a complete kitchen clean up, including both fridges and defrosting and cleaning the freezer in the storage room. There are still food containers looking for their rightful owners, would you please check the hall or kitchen and claim what has been left from lunches. We continue to purchase coffee for the church as needed.
