Fire and Smoke Simulation

FIRE AND SMOKE SIMULATION: OPTIMIZING SMOKE CONTROL SYSTEMS

In cases prescribed by law or required by authorities, smoke and heat extraction systems that meet the specified safety levels must be installed in buildings.

At TSPC, we use FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) software to model fire development in various scenarios. This software utilizes complex physical and chemical equations to realistically simulate the burning process.

Through multiple simulation runs, we can analyze the operation of the designed smoke control system. Allowing us to determine the optimal placement of smoke control equipment, the necessary size and number of smoke vents, and the required performance of smoke exhaust fans.

We prioritize the use of verified modeling procedures to ensure our simulations closely resemble real-life fire events. Thanks to our detailed, high-resolution models, it is possible to examine turbulent flows and backflows, which are essential for designing a properly functioning jet fan ventilation system.

Advantages of Fire Models

Fire models deliver results that are exceptionally close to real-world fire scenarios. This makes them the leading-edge design tool thanks to ongoing software advancements.

Within architecturally unique environments fire model allows an exceptional level of investigation into fire phenomena such as:

Simulating air movement within rooms: This helps in designing effective smoke control systems like jet fan systems.

Analyzing the behavior of turbulent airflows: This is crucial for optimizing the performance of jet fans within a building.

Predicting temperature evolution at specific locations: This information is vital for understanding the impact of fire on evacuation, storage and other combustible materials.

Generating temperature data for structural design: Fire models can provide data for structural engineers to design structures that withstand fire.

It helps highlight the operational shortcomings of a system designed using traditional, paper-based methods.

By offering such a comprehensive view of fire behavior, fire models are a valuable tool for enhancing building safety and optimizing fire protection systems.

Evacuation Simulation

FIRE SAFETY THROUGH SIMULATION:

A SECURE ESCAPE

A cornerstone of fire safety design is ensuring safe evacuation for everyone in a building or event space. Evacuation simulation software empowers us to visualize movement patterns and potential crowd congestion at bottlenecks during an evacuation.

At TSPC, we use evacuation simulation program which is based on the mathematical modeling of real-life processes. The algorithms employed by the program were developed based on experiments conducted using scientific methods. The program takes into account the varying movement speeds of individuals and group dynamics during its calculations, thereby determining the timing of the evacuation process. This results in outcomes that are much more accurate and often more favorable compared to manual calculation methods.

For each project, we create unique evacuation models tailored to the specific architectural design provided. This ensures a comprehensive and building-specific analysis.

EVACUATION MODELS OFFER A POWERFUL TOOL FOR IMPROVING SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY IN VARIOUS SCENARIOS. HERE ARE SOME KEY ADVANTAGES:

Fast and Reliable Results: Evacuation models can simulate complex scenarios quickly, providing valuable insights into potential bottlenecks and evacuation times.

Optimized Escape Routes: By simulating different layouts and procedures, evacuation models help identify the most efficient escape routes, potentially minimizing evacuation times and improving overall safety.

Cost-Effective Planning: Models can help identify potential improvements without the need for expensive real-life drills or modifications. This can lead to cost savings when designing new buildings or retrofitting existing ones.

Large-Scale Analysis: Unlike real-life drills, evacuation models can handle simulations with thousands of occupants, providing valuable data for large buildings or crowded environments.

Realistic Movement: Advanced models incorporate 3D movement patterns, allowing for a more accurate representation of real-world evacuation behavior.

Dynamic Reactions: Evacuation models can simulate how people react to changing conditions, like blocked exits or smoke, offering a more comprehensive analysis of potential outcomes.

Group Dynamics: Some models can account for the movement of related individuals and groups, such as families, providing a more nuanced picture of evacuation behavior.

Accessibility Considerations: Advanced models can incorporate the needs of occupants requiring assistance, ensuring their safe and efficient evacuation.

Lift & Equipment Modeling: Some models allow for simulating the operation of evacuation lifts and other equipment, helping to identify potential bottlenecks.

Detailed Data Output: Evacuation models generate detailed data on evacuation times, flow patterns, and bottlenecks, allowing for informed decision-making about evacuation procedures and building design.

OVERALL, EVACUATION MODELS OFFER A COSTEFFECTIVE AND POWERFUL TOOL FOR IMPROVING SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY IN VARIOUS SCENARIOS.

EXPERIENCE

Bálint graduated as a fire safety engineer in 2006 from the Ybl Miklós Technical College of Szent István University. Afterwards he held various positions in the Budapest Fire Department and later in the Budapest Disaster Management Directorate in the field of fire prevention and authority. Since 1 February 2018, he has been a member of the TSPC team and is currently the head of the Fire Safety Planning Group. He enjoys working in a team and achieving success as a team. He is motivated by the desire to develop and gain more knowledge in the professional field. He is inspired to create fire safety concepts for buildings, to ensure the safety of the occupants, the work of the firefighters, to reduce the damage that may occur. It is a success and a source of satisfaction when the fire protection of a building unfolds and comes together as a single entity. His aim is to continually improve, to broaden his horizons and to ensure that buildings are properly fire-safe and that this is feasible. It also aims to apply computer simulations to a wider range of projects to achieve an even higher level of safety.
