the All England Tennis and Croquet Club’s court expansion project.

But all top level surfaces start somewhere – at grassroots level – and Rob Sullivan presents the Football Foundation’s strategic ambitions to improve grass pitch quality and Chris Smith tackles the funding process to improve pitches.

Perhaps there’s a role for hybrid pitches in the community – Dr Richard Earl (TGMS) reveals data fi ndings from the Sport England hybrid pitch pilot for community use in London’s Regents Park.

Geoff Webb, CEO of the GMA, says: “So many visitors to SALTEX work in grounds maintenance and this series of seminars provides relevant, invaluable information whatever the playing surface they work on from speakers and panelists with a wealth of experience and solutions to real-time projects.

The Grounds Management Association (GMA) has revealed a spectacular seminar lineup as part of the SALTEX 2022 Learning LIVE Programme designed to help grounds people to create the best playing surfaces across a range of sports and settings.

Following on from the Lionness’ success in the Euros, and with

the Rugby League World Cup and the first ever winter Football World Cup coming up, what better time to find out how the surfaces that make such events possible are created.

There’s something for most sports surfaces from some of the best in the business.

For cricket, Gary Barwell (Edgbaston Stadium), Karl McDermott (Lord’s) and Steve Birks (Nottinghamshire CCC) discuss how new cricket formats impact on the modernday grounds manager. Tennis is covered off by Neil Stubley (Wimbledon) who presents

Those in the education sector will no doubt be interested to hear how Whitgift School’s recent hybrid pitch installation was the first in the independent school sector and panelists Daniel Ratling (Whitgift School), Dr Richard Earl (TGMS) and D James Welsh (Whitehorse Contractors) session look at the rationale, the design/planning process, the construction, the project outcomes and the ongoing maintenance and renovation of the project.

“Anybody wanting to stay ahead of the game in the grounds care industry will benefi t from the learning and connections they can make whilst at SALTEX. We are grateful to all those industry experts and leaders that are taking time out to speak at Learning LIVE and support those working hard across the industry to make sport possible across the UK.”

The SALTEX 2022 Learning LIVE schedule this year has been extended to over 30 sessions, they are free to attend across the two days of the show on 2-3 November and contribute to CPD-accreditation.

After the uncertain but ultimately hugely successful return of SALTEX at NEC Birmingham in 2021, the final countdown to the 2022 event is well under way. The GMA has been finalising its Learning Live programme of seminars and exhibitors have been making fine tuning preparations to display their products and services, including a large number of planned new launches. The team from TSP Media will be there as well, complete with the now traditional free mini footballs from Landscape & Amenity Product Update.

There is a good deal of optimism that visitor numbers for the 2022 SALTEX will also increase. It would undoubtedly be great for the industry as a whole to see big numbers at the NEC this year and would provide further indication of how well the industry has coped with the pandemic and continues to lead the world in so many respects.

We have a comprehensive preview of the exhibition this month, highlighting the wide range of innovations and familiar products and services you will be able to see this year. Above all, SALTEX 2022 provides the perfect opportunity for the industry to properly reconnect once again. The industry thrives on those personal relationships and friendships and the last few years have been particularly challenging in maintaining these networks. But they remain the cornerstone of the industry and SALTEX will hopefully see that invaluable networking opportunity taken up once again.

It is a busy time for the industry but taking one or day days out of the working week in early November to travel to Birmingham for SALTEX represents a worthwhile investment. Reflecting how busy this period is, this month we have a diverse range of features and spotlight – from water management to ATVs, UTVs and Work Trucks, from hard landscaping to the latest battery powered technology. We hope to see you all again next month at SALTEX 2022, sharing in the buzz that a major show can always

importance of networking and getting a close up look at the latest innovations in the industry.

Park wins unique award in memory of HM Queen Elizabeth II

Oliver Tambo Recreation Ground in Haringey has been named at the UK’s Favourite Queen Elizabeth II Field as part of a summer-long campaign by green space charity Fields in Trust to find the UK’s Favourite Parks and celebrate the green spaces that have been so important to us all over the last two years.

A total of 364 local green spaces were nominated by members of the public and over 30,000 people voted for their favourite park.

Alongside the UK’s Favourite - Penrhos Coastal Park in Anglesey - home nation winners and local favourites were also selected.

A special award, marking the Platinum Jubilee of Fields in Trust Patron, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, was also determined by the public vote and the winner of UK’s Favourite Queen Elizabeth II Field 2022 is OR Tambo Recreation Ground.

Formerly known as Albert Road Rec, the park is one of seven Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Haringey.

In 2012 Fields in Trust inaugurated the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge with the aim of protecting parks and green spaces across the UK to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Legal protection ensures that the parks which are part of the scheme can never be built on or sold off for development.

The programme resulted in 1,388 parks and green spaces covering over 8,500 hectares being protected forever to benefit people, place and planet. This ensures that communities across all four nations of the UK, stretching from Shetland to Cornwall, will have always have access to green space.

Ten years on from the original Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge and to mark the Platinum Jubilee, a special oneoff category was added to this year’s UK’s Favourite Parks award to celebrate these spaces.

HM The Queen served as Patron of Fields in Trust for seventy years, frequently attending events alongside her husband His late Royal Highness The Duke

of Edinburgh, who served for 64 years as the charity’s President.

Fields in Trust Chief Executive Helen Griffiths said: “Protection of green space through the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge delivered a fitting legacy for HM The Queen’s longstanding Patronage of our organisation.

“We know how important accessible green space is for our health, our wellbeing, our communities and our environment. The deeply saddening news of the last week has added extra significance to the award for the OR Tambo Recreation Ground. Congratulations on this success which demonstrates how much local residents value the park.”

The OR Tambo Recreation Ground was renamed in 2021 in memory of South African anti-apartheid campaigner, Oliver Reginald Tambo who spent time living in exile in nearby Muswell Hill. A statue of him gifted by the South African High Commission is located in the park.

BASIS Classroom launches first lesson for amenity sector

Sustainable Turf Disease Management is the first learning module to be offered in the BASIS Classroom for those involved in the amenity sector.

BASIS Classroom, launched in 2021, enables members of the BASIS Professional Register to gain continuing professional development (CPD) points via online training. Over the past 11 months, it has proved a success. Over 17,000 courses have been taken and more than 35,000 CPD points awarded. Now, the first course for those in the amenity sector is available, with more to come.

This first course has been developed in conjunction with SGL which provides advice and products on sports turf around the world. The course provides an opportunity for amenity advisers to gain additional knowledge,

focussed on sustainable turf disease management.

SGL agronomist Irene Vroegop said: “In this course delegates will learn what conditions need to be met for a disease outbreak to occur and what can be done to eliminate such conditions.

“Disease outbreaks can be minimised by choosing a highquality seed that is adapted to the site conditions and intended turf use, breaking the disease cycle of pathogens present or by altering the environmental conditions with maintenance practices. We will go into disease diagnosis, why a correct diagnosis is so important and what supporting tools are available.

“A high and equal pitch quality is desired by all professional and amateur athletes and will improve the performance of the athletes.

Knowledge on the prerequisites of disease outbreaks will help groundsmen and greenkeepers to maintain sustainable, highquality and climate proof pitches with successful pesticide-free management.”

There is a short assessment at the end of the course and completion will earn members 2 CPD points.

Professionalism within the amenity sector is continually improving as people engaged in the industry are trained, qualified and improving skills through CPD. BASIS is committed to offering development opportunities to support amenity professionals. All BASIS Amenity Register members will have access to this course through the BASIS Classroom with login details provided by e-mail.

Colour Boost mix delivers dazzling display

Wild flowers from DLF’s Colour Boost collection made an eyecatching debut at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park on the stand of professional Chainsaw Sculptor Andy Burgess – who said that the bespoke trays of the Classical mix were being “constantly admired” by the 80,000 visitors in attendance.

After building bespoke seed trays from pallets, Andy chose the Classical mix – a blend of high impact flowering varieties including Cornflower and Love-in-a-mist, in shades of blue and white.

“The flowers were knee high and delivered a swathe of colour that appeared to change on a daily basis with deadheading and new blooms coming through,” he said.

“Close to 80,000 people came through the show over the course of the week and we had some amazing comments, with people saying our Colour Boost display made more of an impact that some of the dedicated flower gardens.”

ISEKI makes life easier at St Catz

Paul Shapter, Head Gardener at St Catherine’s College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford, claims that his new ISEKI ride-on mower has made life a lot easier.

St Catherine’s College, affectionately known as St Catz, is renowned for its modern architecture and many restful open spaces which offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Paul and his team maintain these open spaces which comprises of gardens and lawns; and he revealed that he was looking for something to make life a little easier for everyone.

Tough, reliable, and productive, the SXG326 has been built for the most demanding users. It has a larger operator platform for a comfortable working environment and a 54” (1.37m) mower deck with wider overlapping which provides enhanced productivity and a superior quality of cut. A 2-pedal hydrostatic control and more legroom is featured while the large capacity, high torque 1123cc diesel engine is powerful and fuel efficient.

The new instrument panel and dial in height-of-cut adjustment makes the SXG326 the most operator friendly and intuitive large compact tractor mower on the market. Hopper capacity is an impressive 600 litres with an easy to remove collector that allows for simple cleaning and maintenance. The SXG326 is available in road homologated version with lighting kit and handbrake.

“I think the versatility of it is one of the best features - as well as cutting grass excellently it is also like an outdoor hoover,” said Paul. “It is great at sweeping up and collecting a whole range of debris.

“The high tip is really good, and it means that one person can do the job a lot quicker without having someone running around fetching, carrying, shovelling, cleaning up or tipping. It combines all sorts of efficiencies.

“Essentially, you just can’t beat the value of this ISEKI machine and I would certainly recommend it to all gardeners and grounds people.”

Built on a strong tradition

Since 1986, SCH Supplies have been dedicated to building machinery specifically for groundskeepers. The product range fits perfectly between domestic garden products and heavy industrial farm machinery.

The TS98 lawn sweeper collector collects leaves, cut grass and lawn debris. It is robust in construction to withstand prolonged heavy use.

A differential mechanism allows the sweeper to be manoeuvred in tight corners without the wheels “scuffing”. The differential mechanism also

allows both ground wheels to drive the pick-up brushes giving it superior sweeping power. The height adjustment is simple, allowing it to be used on many different surfaces. The main drive is transmitted via strong metal gears.

The large capacity solid plastic catcher is rot and tear-proof and straightforward to empty. Reversing onto the tipping heap can be difficult for some, but it is made easier with the TS98 as it only has two wheels in contact with the ground.

New robotic line marker launched

Tiny Mobile Robots is delighted to announce the launch of the Tiny Pro X robotic line marker to the UK market.

Reinforcing its commitment to giving its customers the best tools to carry out their line marking projects, the Tiny Pro X hosts a range of brand-new features designed to enhance the end users experience and make GPS robotic line marking easier and more accurate than ever.

Perhaps the most sought-after new feature is the ability to mark out custom logos.

It is now a standard feature on the Tiny Pro X and is a simple 3-step feature for the end user, allowing them to customise

fields for events or occasions in a way that was not easily possible before. The ’Multi-Select’ tool is another time-saving and efficient new feature which enables users to queue up multiple fields to be marked out in a specific order.

A simple yet revolutionary feature is the new low paint alert system. When the robot is running low on paint, an automatic alert is sent to the user’s hand-held tablet notifying them of the paint levels. In addition to these, the Tiny Pro X offers many more improvements, including general upgrades to the hardware and software for a largely improved experience.

SureSet adds a new alternative resin

Since the day SureSet opened their business their resin has been used all over the world for permeable resin bound installations which is why in 2020 they launched ProResin as their flagship trade product in the SureSet online range of self-install goods.

However, there was a demand for an alternative option and therefore SureSet decided to launch ProResin Non-UVR.

ProResin Non-UVR is a high-performance MDI resin specifically for lower budget projects. Compared with similar products on the market

it provides excellent physical properties and the application characteristics of the ProResin UVR. Of equal importance, ProResin Non-UVR is competitively priced.

ProResin UVR is controlled with a separate catalyst and performs brilliantly under natural sunlight conditions and will not yellow over time, the alternative option of ProResin Non-UVR requires no catalyst, which offers less control and the resin will yellow over time, hence the difference in price.

Birkdale launches new Urban Slatted Panel

Birkdale, the UK’s leading manufacturer of gate and fencing accessories, has added the new Urban Slatted Composite Panel to its popular DuraPost range.

The panel mimics the appearance of timber and offers a modern and maintenance free option.

Crucially, the new panel also means customers can now purchase everything they need to complete a fencing installation from the DuraPost range.

Developed with a focus on style and aesthetics, the Urban Slatted Composite Panel achieves the ideal balance between the beauty and character of timber and the high performance of a modern, composite system.

The panels are available in three different colours –Natural, Grey and Brown – and can be fitted both vertically and horizontally, offering design flexibility to complement any garden space.

The product consists of six boards and two horizontal u-shaped rails at the top and base of the panel.

The boards are manufactured from a combination of materials including rice husks – a natural bi-product material from the rice industry - which accounts for 55% of the panel.

Recycled HDPE (highdensity polyethylene), is also incorporated into the design, resulting in a sustainable solution. When it comes performance, the panels have been tested to EN 1794-1-

2018 with wind speeds of up to 110mph (static load tested to 625kg).

The project was designed by landscape architect, Laurel Truscott, who has worked on major landscape projects including the Olympic Park.

Irrigation powered by the sun and cloud

Toro’s latest irrigation technology unites with sustainability in the new Tempus Air, a solar-powered, cloud-based, battery-operated, remote-controlled, wireless control system offering flexible programming to take water automation to the next level.

Technology and sustainability form a symbiotic partnership as we see a solar panel power a nine-volt battery in a product where all its data and information are stored in the cloud. It is a perfect example of how, when the two work together, a costeffective green solution emerges.

So, what’s the difference between traditional and air automation? Well, air is fully automated, moveable, scalable, precise and affordable, providing detailed feedback and information.

Robert Jackson, division manager for Reesink HydroScapes, the UK distributor

of Toro irrigation products, explains more: “Air automation removes some of the inevitable issues of traditional automation such as the expense, labour required, and time needed to install. It’s the no effort way to take control of your water. It’s an extremely stable and secure connection offering real-time connectivity, now proven in the field.

“Scalability is a key feature making this an affordable water delivery solution – Wi-Fi allows you to manage up to 30 modules and 3G manages up to 25. Field conditions can be remotely monitored, and you can programme by time, volume and rainfall. And being able to deliver water at the right time and place means there’s no water wastage.”

Tempus Air can also control the hydraulic valves, water pumps, pressure valve sensors and fi lters; you can link moisture levels, temperature, wind speed,

so adding a lot of functionality as well as monitoring a wide set of field parameters for even more precise and efficient irrigation scheduling.

“Toro has designed a one-of-akind next generation system” continues Robert. “It is entirely unique with nothing else like it on the market today. It’s fully app controlled so no control box or PC set up”. Robert

continues. “The app itself is very intuitive and user friendly and Bluetooth connectivity is integrated to allow full control through the app via a smartphone, tablet or PC if you prefer – simply download and choose up to six stations, four independent programmes and three start times.”

SALTEX 2022 SHOW PREVIEW

Get ahead of the game at SALTEXEurope’s largest free sports turf show

Visitor registration is now open, the new website is live and Europe’s largest free sports turf show, SALTEX, is introducing a brand-new look for 2022.

Registering for a free ticket has never been easier thanks to the event’s new website – saltex. org.uk. Now in its 76th year, Europe’s largest sports turf, amenities and landscaping trade exhibition will host all sectors of the grounds care industry, with over 400 industry brands standing ready to showcase their latest products and innovations.

Sarah Cunningham, GMA director of commercial and events, SALTEX event organisers, says: “As the biggest event covering the supply and management of products and services that help to create high quality leisure, recreation, and sports surfaces, it’s important that the new website is easy to navigate for visitors and exhibitors. I’m confident that the new site will deliver for both.”

Speaking about the rebrand, Andrea McMahon, GMA director of communications says: “SALTEX represents innovation and progression. Its where the industry comes together to build networks, knowledge and learn about new innovations. It’s forward-looking and the brand needs to reflect this and we hope the new look strikes the balance of being modern and progressive, whilst retaining an element of simplicity connecting it to the previous look.”

The opening of visitor registration coincides with the launch of the 2022 show’s social media campaign, #aheadofthegame. As attending the show guarantees you’ll be ahead of the game, the tag couldn’t be more apt. SALTEX

visitors are being encouraged to use the tag, along with #SALTEX2022 on social posts to share what they learnt at the show that puts them ahead of the game. Likewise exhibitors are being encouraged to use the tag to promote what they will be bringing to the show.

At the event, visitors will hear about latest product innovations and find all the machinery and technology needed to make their jobs easier. It gives access to expertise all in one place that they wouldn’t get anywhere else.

Visitors will be surrounded by a broad spectrum of exhibitors offering solutions and providing answers – and there’ll be the opportunity to meet and network with others

in the same industry for new ideas and fresh insights. Sarah continues: “With a proven track record spanning eight decades, the SALTEX 2022 show won’t disappoint.

“Bringing together the best in the business to tackle the trends and issues affecting those working in the industry, the event will host over 400 industry brands in one place – all lining up the best products on offer for today’s growing needs.

“And, as always, there will be a comprehensive schedule of speakers across three theatres sharing their knowledge and expertise – with sustainability and environmental pressure at the forefront of the 2022 agenda.”

LAPU is an official media partner

Landscape & Amenity Product Update is delighted to have been announced as one of nine media partners to support SALTEX 2022.

Andrea McMahon, GMA director of communications, comments: “The event at Birmingham NEC always attracts interest from the media due to so many of the industry’s leading brands and companies attending as well as the most influential, established, and emerging talent from the industry.

“The trade media has long supported SALTEX and with this year’s show already exceeding 2019’s July figures in terms of confirmed exhibitors,

visitor registrations and floor space booked, this year’s show looks set to be one of the most successful yet.

“We are delighted to announce this year’s official media partners for SALTEX 2022 and are grateful for their continued support.

“Working with the media –especially those of the calibre of our official partners – ensures that we can keep industry colleagues up to date with the latest on what to expect at this year’s show. We look forward to welcoming them to the NEC in November.”

Support from around the world

SALTEX, Europe’s largest free sports turf, amenities, and landscaping trade exhibition, proves Britain’s exhibition scene is back to pre-Covid levels with international exhibitors and visitors from over 40 countries now signed up to attend.

Such overwhelming overseas support with 12 weeks to go before the show opens its doors on 2 November shows the strength of this event, now in its 76th year, and it’s a great indication that Britain is back to being fully open for business as exhibitors and visitors travel to the event from as far afield as Australia.

Geoff Webb, CEO of the Grounds Management Association, says: “There promises to be a diverse visitor profile this year, we know there are visitors from over 26 countries already.

“We had a good show last year with our post-show visitor survey, showing that 83 percent of attendees rated SALTEX 2021 overall as excellent, very good or good, and 67 percent of those saying they attended specifically to purchase new products or services, and 84 percent either had full purchasing responsibility or contributed to the process.”

Love Aspen Fuel or get your money back

Aspen, the original alkylate petrol pioneers, are returning to SALTEX this November with their range of alkylate fuels for two and four-stroke engines and an initiative not to be missed.

Visitors to stand M055 can learn how Aspen enhances engine performance and reduces the negative impact on both the operator and environment with a chance to then trial it for themselves - and get their money back if they change their minds!

Alkylate petrol is formed from the gasses which are produced when refining oil. The alkylation process

involves tuning those excess gases into a liquid alkylate, before combining them with some additional components to create a finished fuel which is significantly purer than traditional petrol.

Content of harmful and hazardous hydrocarbons and polyaromatics (PAH) is close to zero with Aspen, reducing Benzene emissions by up to 108 times!

The cleaner burn achieved with Aspen also helps to maintain engine performance, reliability and preserve the life of engine components that can be susceptible to clogging or failure when running on

conventional pump fuel; especially if equipment has been left in storage for any significant period of time.

Those wishing to experience the Aspen difference for themselves can now try the fuel, risk-free, with a new money back guarantee launching at SALTEX 2022.

Subject to a bulk purchase, operators can use Aspen in their own working environments with the confidence that, if they don’t notice the significant improvements to sustainable working practices, they can return the unused fuel.

Sustainable seed solutions from DLF

DLF are putting sustainable and environmental solutions under the spotlight as they return to SALTEX this November on stand J052.

With predictions that drought conditions like those experienced this summer will become a more frequent occurrence, species such as tetraploid perennial ryegrass and clover will likely become key weapons in every turf managers armoury to maintain sward health and density during prolonged periods of hot and dry weather.

In attempts to repair and recover surfaces during the cooler season, the increased energy reserves of DLF’s 4turf tetraploid perennial ryegrass demonstrates exceptional germination at temperatures as low as 4°C.

The strong, fast establishment and healthy plant development is backed up with a larger root system meaning 4turf surfaces are more tolerant to drought and a range of other environmental stresses.

The sustainable credentials of 4turf, together with its weartolerant properties, has seen its inclusion in a number of Johnsons Sports Seed mixtures popular with football clubs including J4Turf and, the new mixture for 2022, J Premier 4Turf.

For spring renovations - and of particular interest for local authorities, sports grounds and gardens – could be self-sustaining clover. The unique root nodules on clover

atmospheric nitrogen into a gradual supply of natural fertiliser, resulting in sustained growth.

Microclover, a smallerleaved dwarf white clover, is incorporated into Masterline’s PM82 Microclover Sport mixture, blended to improve turf quality whilst being kinder to the environment thanks to its reduced requirements for herbicide, fungicide and fertiliser.

The DLF technical team will be on hand to discuss formulations from across the Johnsons Sports Seed, MM Seed and Masterline ranges, in addition to the Pro Flora wild flower and Colour Boost amenity flower collections.

Seeds, Feeds, Science and more on show as OAS return

Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) will be returning to SALTEX, demonstrating how the knowledge, innovation and wealth of products from across its four brands – Headland Amenity, Rigby Taylor, Symbio and Turfkeeper – has established them as a leading force in amenity and grounds management.

Members of the technical team will be available on stand G060 to discuss how, working in partnership, they can offer a solutions-led turf management approach to meet the objectives of both grounds managers and greenkeepers alike.

As autumn conditions prevail, so does the risk of turf disease, meaning that Headland’s pioneering 20-20-30 enhanced plant health tank-mix is back under the spotlight. Independently tested at the STRI and at the OAS Turf Technology Centre, the combination of Liquid Turf Hardener, Turfite Elite and Seamac Proturf Fe has proven to minimise disease occurrence by boosting turf

health and the strength of the plant’s natural defences. Refinements and improvements to the programme saw the recent addition of Mantle® for enhanced efficacy.

From fertilisers to seeds and Euroflor wildflowers, the Rigby Taylor team will again be looking at solutions for the colder months with a focus on tetraploid seed mixtures – delivering enhanced root growth and germination in temperatures as low as 4°C.

R140 tetraploid and diploid blend delivers a robust, hard-wearing and stress tolerant sward suited to a range of sports turf applications.

Complementing this, Rigby Taylor will also be demonstrating their line marking portfolio, the latest addition to which is the Tiny Pro X robotic line marker from the leading GPS Tiny Mobile Robots range.

An innovative biological thatch degrader from Symbio will be another stand highlight. DegrAID contains beneficial bacteria and fungi that can break down lignin and cellulose in thatch, converting

it to humus and making other nutrients such as phosphorus and potassium available for plant uptake. Alongside DegrAID will be the popular range of Symbio Compost Teas.

Completing the line-up, a live demonstration of the newest feature on the digital Turfkeeper platform can also be viewed on stand G060. The Beacon application offers push-notifications direct to a mobile device, helping the operator to keep up to date with their team and the task list while away from the desk.

All of the brand’s products and services are backed by industryleading support and research, taking place at the £1m OAS Turf Science and Research Centre. More information about past and present trials can be discovered by attending seminars hosted by Research & Development Director Geoff Fenn and Angus Finlayson, OAS Turf Trials Research Manager, across the two days.

Upgrades and Launches for Etesia UK

Etesia UK will have a range of pedestrian and ride-on mowers, brushcutters and the awardwinning ET Lander electric utility vehicle on display at SALTEX 2022.

Etesia, located on stand E072, are specialists in building high quality grass cutting machinery and have been a regular exhibitor at SALTEX over the years, choosing the show as a platform to launch new products and make exciting announcements. This year is no exception.

In addition to showcasing many of their most popular products, Etesia UK will be launching the Electric Bahia M2EL lithium and will be announcing a new feature of the ET Lander electric utility vehicle.

The groundscare industry fi rst got the chance to view the utility vehicle at SALTEX in November last year, where it

won the prestigious SALTEX 2021 Innovation award within the vehicle category, while also finishing second within the environmentally friendly category.

The ET Lander will be returning to this year’s SALTEX but this time visitors will be pleased to see that the new models will be fully N1 homologation compliant meaning that the ET Lander will be fully road legal along with being able to be used off road.

The new models will also feature lithium-ion batteries which ensures that the range of the ET Lander will extend to 100km and have a charger system compatible with a standard type 2EV car charger. These models will also come in a new sleek, black option.

Etesia’s other exciting news is that the Bahia M2E - the world’s fi rst 100% electric professional

ride-on-mower with grass collection, is now powered by a 48V, 100Ah lithium battery. This enables users to get up to 4 hrs 30 mins of action before it needs recharging.

A pocket-size ride-on mower, just 0.82m wide and 1.98m long, the Etesia electric Bahia features an incredibly tight turning circle. It nips into every nook and cranny and can be easily transported. With its low centre of gravity, the Etesia electric Bahia’s 33/67 weight distribution on the front/ rear axles make it a highly stable mower that masterfully copes with slopes.

It is also highly economical - the electric Bahia’s running costs are £0.35 against £3.57 for the petrol version and there are the obvious reduced maintenance costs – such as no belt, no filters, and no engine oil.

GKB to showcase new sustainable solution to leaf clearance

GKB Machines will be retuning to SALTEX for 2022, showcasing a new solution to the problem of large-area leaf clearance.

The GKB Leaf Reducer offers an economic and environmentallyfriendly alternative to the time-consuming task of leaf collection – effectively mulching the material and returning it, and its nutrients, back into the surface to the benefit of impoverished soils.

This, and many other innovative machinery solutions for natural, hybrid and synthetic surfaces, will be on show on stand H051.

The Leaf Reducer has been developed in direct response to demand from local authorities, looking for a more sustainable working method to using blowers, vacuums and trucks to collect

and dispose of fallen leaves. In a single pass, the flails on the Leaf Reducer collect the leaves before a turbine provides both initial fragmentation and the airflow needed to pull the material into the machine where it is further milled into a fine mulch. The fine ‘porridge-like’ material is then returned to the surface via a rear ejector which can be adjusted to a desired direction depending on the location.

In trials conducted by municipalities in The Netherlands, it has proven not just to deliver labour and cost savings to the task but has proven effective at returning an all-important source of food and nutrients back into the soil.

The Leaf Reducer is available with a 1.5m working width, and an adjustable working

height to treat areas with both low and higher heights of cut. The technical team will be on hand to discuss this and other products from the GKB range including the Deep-Clean, for effective cleaning and removal of contaminants from synthetic surfaces and the Deep Tine Aerator (DTA). The DTA is available in four working widths to suit both fine and sports turf surfaces and offers effective compaction relief down to depths of up to 400mm (16”).

The DTA features GKB’s unique tine mounting system, utilising ‘blocks’ instead of individual mountings, allowing for more tines per head and reducing downtime when switching between sets.

Try professional knapsacks for size on stand F125

Professional knapsack specialists Cooper Pegler are introducing padded straps to its Classic and Series 2000 models to heighten operator comfort and limit body strain during use. Many of the go-to knapsack models across the popular brand include ergonomically tailored harnesses to channel loading forces in a way that limits stresses on the body.

The latest advance from manufacturer Hozelock-Exel, which follows extensive trialling, further enhances operator safety and protection to include cushioned strapping on Cooper Pegler’s Classic and Series 2000 knapsack models.

“This is a global initiative,” says Allan Wainwright, Hozelock-

Exel’s UK Sales Manager, “which aims to make our knapsack brands fully inclusive for all spray operatives.”

The cushioned strapping is introduced at a time when more sports venues and amenity sites are reducing the quantity of treatment liquids they apply in a bid to improve their green credentials.

Golf course greens teams report they are using knapsacks increasingly for spot-spray weed control, a practice that cuts the quantity of liquid applied significantly.

More knapsack hand spraying raises the importance of operator comfort to new levels, therefore.

“Those who spend a full day knapsack spraying will find the new cushioned straps more comfortable,” Allan adds, “reducing the stresses and strains possible on the body during extensive sessions in the field.”

The strapping is understood to be available on new knapsacks from March 2023 but models already in use can be retrofitted with the accessory once launched.

New CEO joins products from Trilo and Progressive on stand

It’s been an exciting period of growth for the Vanmac group since their last appearance at SALTEX, with new premises, new products and more new faces joining the team.

This year, stand K070 will feature highlights such as the Progressive TDR-X tri-deck contour mower and infamous Trilo S3 vacuum collector, with the technical team on hand to discuss these and other products from across the Vanmac and Trilo portfolios.

More than a year on from the extension of the partnership

between Vanmac and Progressive, this has borne fruit for both parties with the range of innovative, rotary finishing mowers delivering first-class quality of cut for turf managers across the country and the full spectrum of applications.

Debuted at SALTEX 2021, the Progressive TDR-X is now setting the standard for contour following ability – with three independent floating decks offering a cutting height range from 9.5mm to 84.5mm and cutting width of 3.2m.

This ability to cut precisely, without scalping, makes the

Weedingtech highlight hybrid power

Weedingtech, the world leaders in non-herbicidal weed control, will be returning to SALTEX with their revolutionary Foamstream product, with visitors to stand E057 able to see the very first hybrid powered unit – the M600H.

The chemical-free solution to vegetation management is already a firm favourite with a number of councils and local authorities around the country, with the new M600H offering further benefits to the operator and wider environment.

With changes to herbicide and environmental legislation and growing public pressure to reduce usage of harmful weedkillers and chemicals in green space management, Foamstream has fast become recognised as the future of nonchemical control.

In trials, Foamstream has been proven to be as effective at treating broadleaf weeds – including species that can be difficult to control by conventional methods – as Glyphosate.

Its active ingredient is hot water, which is insulated by a patented foam formulated from 100% natural plant oils and sugars meaning it can be used in any weather and on any surface, including environmentally-

sensitive areas and those close to children or animals. The foam maintains kill zone temperatures for six times longer than other heat-based treatments, killing the weed, damaging the root and sterilising seeds and spores to reduce re-growth.

This means Foamstream requires fewer treatment cycles than any other alternative solution on the market.

Foamstream is delivered via industry-leading machinery, available in different sizes and with different power options, suitable to mount on a variety of UTV’s or municipal vehicles.

The M600H is Weedingtech’s first hybrid unit, combining the economy of Lithium-Ion battery power with the proven efficiency of a diesel-powered boiler.

The M600H offers a flow rate of 6 litres per minute and, as the quietest unit in the range, is particularly well suited to jobs in inner-city and rural environments.

In addition to controlling weeds, moss and other unwanted vegetation, the M600H offers further benefit by tackling a host of other urban tasks including sanitisation, gum removal and the cleaning of graffiti.

Find out what’s new from Toro and Reesink UK

Reesink UK will be represented at SALTEX 2022 with innovations and technologies, new launches and best sellers from all four of its divisions (Stand K080 - Reesink Turfcare, Reesink e-Vehicles, Reesink Agriculture and Reesink Hydro-Scapes) for the first time.

Bound to be a big draw will be two Toro product launches from Reesink Turfcare. The new Toro ProCore 648s and Toro Workman UTX 4x4.

Building on the incredible legacy of the ProCore 648, the 648s brings more innovative features to the time-tested machine that changed the way you aerate.

The s stands for superior –and superior it is. An updated version of a customer-favourite model, there are more than 10 new patents and some brand-

new enhancements based off operator feedback and Toro’s own in-depth studies. Revised controls improve ergonomics and allow single handed operation, and hole spacing and true tine depth are now set and saved in the InfoCentre.

Reesink will also unveil the latest powerhouse from Toro to tackle all terrains thrown at it: the new Toro Workman UTX 4x4. The fourth utility vehicle in the series, it tackles all terrains and environments including ice and snow.

This robust four-wheel drive, full-sized utility vehicle has 25 percent more cargo capacity than others in its class and blasts through its tasks.

Finishing the line up from Reesink Turfcare is Toro’s Groundsmaster 3300 mower, back with its innovative flail attachment, and one of two

tractors – the TYM T395 is coupled with an AgriMetal blower attachment at the show.

The industry’s first all-electric compact tractor from Reesink Agriculture is the second on stand. Since Farmtrac’s FT25G launched, it’s won awards, been on multiple TV programmes and impressed the industry’s electric vehicles and technology enthusiasts, as well as winning the SALTEX Innovation Award in the Environmental and Sustainability category.

So, if you’ve missed seeing it in person up until now, now’s your chance.

With the theme of the show sustainability, Reesink e-Vehicles is ably represented by the electric Capella Work Machine with cargo box from STAR EV and KAASPEED’s unique electric scooter.

Both make transporting cargo and people around the site fun, clean and green. Also on stand, and the next big thing for sustainable cleaning of machinery, is BioCircle GT Maxi, the parts cleaner that requires no water and eliminates pollutant run-off into the water system.

This VOC-free, pH neutral cleaning option is gentle on the environment but powerful enough to remove grease, oil, grass contamination, whiteline paint and fertiliser.

From Reesink HydroScapes, there’s a selection of irrigation and water aeration solutions, encapsulating the long established and industryleading Toro irrigation systems, controllers, sprinklers and soil sensors, Otterbine pond and lake aerators; SRC wall-mounted controllers and quick-replace Franklin pump systems.

To mark the world’s largest football celebration, and in conjunction with their 40th anniversary, Redexim will be inviting visitors to predict the outcome of this year’s tournament for their chance to be the lucky winner of an experience to remember.

Electrifying Line-Up from Dennis and SISIS

Continuing their long history of exhibiting at SALTEX, Dennis and SISIS will be showcasing a wide-range of pedestrian batterypowered products on stand E070, located in the centre of the show.

This has been an exciting year for the innovative British manufacturers - not only does it see Dennis celebrating its 100-year anniversary and SISIS their 90th anniversary, but both companies are experiencing a record-breaking year for orders.

This has all been possible due to their commitment to continual investment - investment in facilities, marketing, exhibitions, staff, export and of course products – which is where the batterypowered products come in.

Since making its debut at SALTEX last year, the Dennis

E-Series has taken the industry by storm standing out from the competition in terms of power, battery-range and performance.

Reliable and long lasting, the exciting Dennis E-Series is a range of battery powered mowers that are no compromise alternatives to its popular range of petrol machines. Ultra-low noise, low vibration, user friendly and super low CO2 footprint, the new range of mowers are helping users towards the carbon neutral goal.

SALTEX visitors can expect to see the following products on the Dennis and SISIS stand.

ES-510 - This new mower is based on the Dennis FT510 – which is, historically, the company’s most popular machine. With a choice of 12 interchangeable cassettes, the ES-510 is capable of scarifying down to -10mm.

ES-22 Ultra - Users of the Dennis Razor Ultra will be familiar with this machine, which features an ultra-short wheelbase for undulating surfaces.

ES Verticut TT - Designed with ease-of-operator-control in mind and providing the ultimate verticutting, regular use of the Verticut TT will help reduce thatch, improve the sward, and encourage finer grasses to flourish.

ES-26 - Easy to use, superb balance, control, and easy pull back for accurate alignment of next run are just some of the features of the ES-26.

The E-Series features a robust LCD keypad screen which provides the operator with a multitude of information options including speed, clip rate, service checks, lifetime running reports and battery information.

The mowers take just 2-3 hours for an ultra-fast full battery recharge.

Pellenc to launch two new products

Pellenc UK has announced that it will be launching two new products at SALTEX 2022.

Over recent years, Pellenc has gained market recognition by offering a unique range of ‘zero emission’ batterypowered tools, thanks to the development of Lithiumion ultra-high-performance batteries.

The extensive Pellenc product range features an impressive portfolio – from chainsaws, pole saws and hedge cutters to grass strimmers, brushcutters, blowers and mowers.

market leading equipment as well as see two new products.

Powerful, safe, light and reliable, to meet all pruning needs, Pellenc will be launching two new models of professional shears at SALTEX - the C35 and C45.

The new pruning shears are equipped with the innovative Active Security anti-cut system, patented by Pellenc, which is based on the principle of the natural bioimpedance of the body: the blade stops immediately in case of contact with the hand.

The Pellenc range of equipment with onboard Alpha battery has been extended with the arrival of the new Cultivion Alpha.

EGO to unveil new technology

EGO Power Plus, the batterypowered outdoor power equipment specialist, will be showcasing its new 2023 range for grounds care professionals at this year’s SALTEX.

Following last year’s launch of the world’s first platformcompatible battery-powered zero-turn ride-on mower, EGO will be debuting its brand new zero-turn ride-on mower for 2023, with the industry’s fi rst e-STEER technology.

Visitors will see first-hand EGO’s next-generation ride-on mowers which deliver ultimate control and precision with the choice of either a steering wheel or lap bar version.

EGO’s ride-on mowers have the power equivalent of 22 horsepower, can cut up to 2.5 acres on a single charge and are platform compatible, meaning you can use the batteries across any of EGO’s product range.

A new year will need a new world’s first and EGO can deliver, its latest Line Trimmer featuring Line IQ, the world’s first automatic line feeding technology which requires no bumping of the head while tackling areas of long grass.

Dubbed the industry’s easiest line loading, the EGO Line IQ Trimmer is not one to miss.

Visitors will also have the chance to see EGO’s new lifestyle range

including the world’s most powerful cordless area light, the brand-new Nexus Escape, which includes a 240V AC power outlet, allowing you to charge devices up to 400 Watts and the 18-inch cordless misting fan, all of which use EGO’s powerful ARC lithium batteries.

Vince Brauns, Group Product Manager at EGO, comments: “We are really excited to be returning to SALTEX and are especially thrilled to be bringing plenty of brand-new products to share with visitors, some of which feature technology that the industry won’t have even seen before.

“We can’t wait for the show to open so that we can finally reveal our widest range of new tools yet. The rising cost of living and increasing cost of petrol will be hitting every business hard this year. With EGO, visitors can see how they can reduce these costs by making the switch to battery, all whilst producing less noise, less vibration, and no fumes.”

On the stand, visitors will also be able to use EGO in the virtual world, trying out Skyhook Games’ popular Lawn Mowing Simulator, where EGO products including the ZT4200E-L ride-on mower and ST1400E-ST line trimmer, have been authentically recreated and introduced to the game to offer its first sustainability-led mowing experience.

The Cultivion soil cultivator is a high-performance alternative to chemical products.

Powerful, fast, and precise, it increases your productivity when working.

Totally versatile, it can be used for hoeing, soil aeration, or weeding, and is suitable for all types of soil, both on the surface and below. Its lightness and manoeuvrability make your work easier.

Pellenc offers an industry leading four-year commercial warranty for all batteries and a three-year warranty for all tools. Pellenc is distributed exclusively in the UK by Etesia UK.

ATT showcasing abundance of new features

ATT will be returning to SALTEX for 2022, showcasing their popular INFINICUT and TMSystem ranges on stand H070.

As the only professional sports turf mower that has been specifically designed with electric power and not a re-purposed petrol variant, it maintains best in class for both efficiency and quality of cut.

The continued recurring increase in global energy costs now makes the INFINICUT a serious consideration when deliberating the move to electrically powered equipment. On their stand at the NEC, the ATT team will have a handy software programme which can help calculate payback on energy which could help to validate any decisions in making the transfer.

As has come to be expected with the quick-moving design team at ATT, visitors will also be able to see a wealth of new INFINICUT features, including the extension of the range of battery’s they offer to include a new 105AH Lithium variant – allowing users to specify whatever duty cycle is required, with zero compromise.

The full range of batteries available can be swapped between mowers in the INFINICUT collection, resulting in even greater versatility and optimised fleet management.

Under the hood, ATT have continued to refine the electrical architecture of the INFINICUT with design emphasis on simplification and fewer contact points. Firmware has also been upgraded, as has

their popular Infi niApp which is now available for download direct from the iOS App Store. Through the App, every aspect of the mowing operation can be optimised to ensure the attainment of the perfect cut.

In response to the additional technical variations in the way pitches can now be reinforced, INFINICUT mowers can now accommodate adjustable/ removable weight kits for situations where increased down pressure is required. The weight kits can easily be removed when gravity readings are at optimal levels.

A trailing seat is also now offered on 34” variant mowersextending the versatility of where and how the mowers operate.

Kubota proving that all good things come in threes

A dedicated ‘new product’ zone is going to be bursting at the seams on stand C070, as Kubota return to SALTEX.

A trio of new machines will be on show across the RTV and compact tractor ranges, that promise to meet the requirements of even more of today’s groundcare professionals – with the launch of the LXe-261 electric compact tractor marking a major step forward in Kubota’s eco-friendly product line-up.

The LXe-261 overcomes the major challenge of range, powered by a large-capacity battery that provides rapid onehour charging and a continuous operational run-time of three to four hours.

Of particular interest for sporting venues, local authorities and

other public bodies in the pursuit of improving their sustainable credentials, the LXe-261 also features an independent PTO, comfortable HST transmission and multiple hydraulic outlets to optimise effi ciency of mowing, hauling and other green space management tasks.

Also new in the tractor portfolio will be the EK1-261. The EK1261 is powered by a 24.4hp diesel engine, driving through to the ground via the 9F+3R manual transmission and providing a rear linkage lift capacity of 750kg.

Proving that compact doesn’t have to mean compromise, options including a front loader, front guard and rear fender extensions will be available

The Kubota team will be on hand across the two days to

discuss the complete tractor, ride-on mower and side-byside vehicle ranges – the newest addition to this being the RTV 520, launched earlier this year and making its UK debut at SALTEX.

The compact and versatile RTV 520 combines high performance and comfort with a range of accessories suitable for a wide range of domestic and commercial applications.

It features a variable hydrostatic transmission (VHT) with onepedal operation for smooth acceleration and dynamic braking. The suspension, seat and engine have also been improved to reduce vibration and make for an easier and more comfortable ride.

The joys of product research

Aqua Aid brings a wide range of products to the market, offering solutions for various plant related problems.

The professional range of Westermann power cleaning machines are designed for landscapers, grounds maintenance and facilities management.

Westermann’s moss brushers, weed rippers, scrapers and sweepers with ride-on and pedestrian options help maintain weed-free and mossfree facilities and get to work on all types of hard landscaped areas: block paving, verges, carparks, driveways and pavements.

Weed rippers include the new WKB330, a smaller version of the larger 660 model and available as a battery powered option for environmentally sensitive areas.

Lightweight and very portable it features the same heavy-duty rotating brushes as the larger

model. It works fully to the edges of walls and curbs, using the guard side flap to clean-up close to edges.

The innovative brush technology is powerful enough for the toughest weeds while gentle enough for delicate paving. The braids apply even pressure, which means there are no scratches to the surface. Its sweeping principle guarantees all edges and corners are cleaned thoroughly, something most other producers consider a challenge.

The big brother WKB660 Weed Ripper, Moss Brushes and Ride-On Cleaning Machines will also be on show, proven machines with professional landscaping crews across the UK.

Worm Power is and has been since the start of Aqua Aid Europe, an important specialty product. A 100 % organic vermicomposted product, that strengthens the soil surrounding the plant’s root zone. This healthier soil makes the plant stronger and more resilient.

Aqua-Boost is a new product in our portfolio, developed by Aqua Aid Europe to increase the plants natural resistance to (negative) external influences.

Aqua-Boost is a liquid nonphytotoxic composition, based on natural plant extracts, denaturized extracts and organic compounds. This is a new generation of biostimulant that,

due to the very low NPK value, does not interfere with fertiliser programs already applied to the plant and soil.

As part of the test setup at Aqua Aid Europe, the products were applied together, both following the standard application advice. As expected, the results showed that Worm Power and AquaBoost do not counter each other’s activity. In fact, the test showed that both products actually enhance each other.

Worm Power and Aqua-Boost have shown to be very effective products on their own. But combined and creating this newly uncovered ability to elevate each other, they truly proof to be an additional benefi t for both the plant and its environment.

New Smithco Sand Star E electric bunker rake

Yamaha adds lithium-ion battery technology to golf car range

Yamaha Motor Europe N.V., Branch UK has introduced Lithium-Ion battery technology into its golf car range with the introduction of the new Drive² AC Li.

The new Lithium-Ion battery is a high-performance, maintenancefree, cobalt-free unit from the renowned manufacturer, Roypow®, and offers a number of key benefits.

Linked to a powerful 3.3 kW motor, it provides fast, smooth acceleration and, with greater torque than a conventional lead acid battery, it’s 20% faster climbing a 15-degree incline.

Of appeal to golf course operators, the batteries are maintenance-free resulting in considerable savings in time and labour costs.

They also come with a fiveyear warranty and a useful

working life of up to eight years. They charge almost twice as quickly as their leadacid equivalents and provide in excess of three rounds before they require recharging.

A sophisticated, comfortable and powerful golf car, the new Drive² AC Li has fully independent front suspension, optimised to compliment the lightweight battery pack, to provide a pleasant, smooth ride.

The rear suspension has been redesigned and offers increased comfort for the golfer while allowing golf course owners to deliver a better experience for their members and guests.

The new Drive² AC Li can utilise YamaTrack, Yamaha’s management system, that improves the operational efficiency of any golf car fleet.

A 25 cm (10”) screen, mounted on the dashboard, allows golfers

to enjoy 3-D terrain graphics and customisable Pro tips.

Geo-zones can be set up to protect environmentally sensitive areas and players can pre-order food and beverages while out on the course.

Commenting on the arrival of the new Drive² AC Li, Dan Palmer, Manager, Power Products (Yamaha Motor) said: “When coupled with our YamaTrack system, course operators can manage their fleets, removing the hassle and optimising their business operations and profitability.

“As you would expect, we will continue to stay close to our customers in the golf fleet sector to ensure that we identify and provide solutions that best meet their needs.”

The Smithco Sand Star E incorporates a 165-amp lithium battery pack, with an on-board battery management system, supported by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.

This is the same tried and tested battery used in many popular golf cars and provides up to 8-9 hours of run time, that’s 187 bunkers, while being the quietest and most ecofriendly groomer in the market.

Transport speed is up to 16 km/h, with a raking and ploughing speed of up to 8 km/h.

Featuring an industrial-grade motor and controller delivering

superior and reliable power for even the toughest jobs, the Sand Star E’s onboard diagnostics exceed all industry standards, providing quick and easy identification of solutions to any issues in the various subsystems, saving time and money.

Regenerative braking puts power back into the battery pack and safety is enhanced as the machine automatically brakes when the operator leaves the seat of the machine.

The intelligent controller, which ensures that the warranty begins only when the machine starts its first work cycle and features a battery management

system that provides even distribution to each cell while charging.

An optional remote diagnosis system is available to allow dealers to interrogate controller, if an issue arises.

The exclusive dual traction pedal on the Sand Star E gives the operator the ability to smoothly transition from forward to reverse making for hands-free operation, allowing the operator the ability to focus on steering and raking. Powerful LED lighting facilitates early morning starts.

As a long-term user of Dennis Mowers, Andy was quite certain on what brand of batterypowered mowers he wanted.

“I have used the Dennis G860 cylinder mowers since 2001 and when I moved here there was already a fleet of nine G860’s and four Dennis PRO 34R rotary mowers. I felt it was a no-brainer to stay with Dennis.”

Andy chose to purchase two Dennis ES-860 cylinder mowers from the ES range.

maximum versatility and the range of 13 interchangeable cassette options provide a solution to many day-to-day maintenance tasks such as cutting, scarifying, brushing, sorrel rolling, and verticutting.

Furthermore, traditional G860 cassettes will also fit the ES860, meaning that customers will not have to purchase additional cassettes.

A robust LCD keypad screen is an integral feature of the handlebar console providing the operator with a multitude of information options including speed, clip rate, service checks, lifetime running reports and battery information.

Scottish Borders Council has purchased an agria 9500 hybrid remote controlled banks mower from Scottish dealer, Fairways GM.

Kenneth Naylor, Scottish Borders Council’s Fleet Manager, based at Newtown St Boswells, said the purchase prioritised H&S for the Council’s operations team.

“We’ve used handheld tools and hired ride-on mowers but tipping and stability were always concerns. Slopes need something safe.

“The Agria is an unusual and distinctive piece of equipment. I saw something remarkably similar a few years ago in Portugal, which reminded me of a tank, and I thought, that’s

the future. It is great; they go anywhere, do anything. You don’t have trips, falls or vibration worries. Your team is safely positioned on the flat up to 100 metres away. It really is the way forward,” he said.

Scottish Borders Council has opted for the 70 cm version agria 9500. With brushless motors and electromechanical breaking it takes manoeuvrability to a new level, literally on to banks and hilly areas up to 45 degrees.

Operated with a handheld control pad and joystick it has a hybrid power system which helps to minimise fuel use.

Campey’s new verti-cutter proves a hit

Launched earlier this year at BTME 2022, the new Campey BM50 fixed blade verti-cutter has been out on demo with a resoundingly enthusiastic response.

The reaction to the BM50 has been so strong that companies such as Turf Tonics have opted to purchase their demo unit on the spot.

Videos showing the clean and easy operation of the machine in action have also gathered interest and demo requests on social media.

The verti-cutter is available in 1.56m and 1.8m working widths and the depth 0 - 40mm, adjustable in 0.5mm increments.

Working at 0.0mm means there is no contact with the soil with just thatch being removed, whilst working at the greatest depth will scarify deeper, removing huge amounts of debris.

This makes the machine perfect for use during the season to provide light thatch and debris clearance, and for when a thorough deeper lay of organic matter needs to be removed.

Due to the fixed blade system, it does not require the complete disassembly of the transmission and rotor, but only of the worn blades. The high-performance rotor guarantees excellent work in all circumstances, even when the blade’s cutting edge is not in optimal condition. In the standard version, the blades are made of HARDOX material with a thickness of 3mm and spaced 30mm apart. Optional 2mm and 3mm tungsten tipped blades are also available.

The BM50 1600 model can be operated using a 25 HP tractor, whilst the larger 1800 requires a 30 HP tractor for operation.

ISEKI – love at first sight

Two ISEKI compact tractors are making a difference at Powfoot Golf Club and Head Greenkeeper Neil Hamilton claims they struck a chord from the very first demonstration.

Neil and his two trusty assistants maintain this wonderful course and for the last five years the team has had a little help from two ISEKI tractors in the TG range. It was love at first sight according to Neil.

lSEKI’s TG Series sets the benchmark for compact tractor performance. Designed and manufactured in Japan, the TG Series is built to exceptional standards of quality — starting from the front lights through to the back three-point linkage.

Every component, including the engine and transmission,

features lSEKI’s stamp of approval for quality and excellence that is rarely seen in the compact tractor category.

With a host of options and features to choose from, the lSEKI TG Series provides unrivalled reliability to get the job done fast, efficiently and in comfort.

Neil opted for the TG6495 - a 47 hp tractor with the innovative IQ dual-clutch 24-speed transmission and the TG6675 – a 65 hp tractor with a 6-speed hydrostatic transmission.

He provided a glimpse of how the two are commonly used on the course. “We use the TG6675 with the front loader on it to do some fl ailing work – this is to thin out the roughs, to get rid of the coarse grasses and to promote the fi ne grasses.

“The TG6495 is used to pull the trailer and then we tip all the grass cuttings into it and then dispose of them.

“With the IQ transmission we can change gear without dipping the clutch, which is a massive advantage when you are working and doing flailing jobs.”

Users of the TG range also frequently praise the spacious factory fitted cabins which are available on all models and come fitted with air conditioning as standard.

All control elements are extremely clear and positioned in a readily accessible manner within the field of vision of the driver, reducing fatigue.

Forward-thinking school invests in new machinery fleet

A prestigious college has marked its 100th anniversary with a significant investment in its groundscare. Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire has completely renewed its machinery to maintain a huge area of sports pitches.

A GPS precision sprayer has been added to the fleet, and combustion engines have given way to electric in line with the college’s sustainability ambitions.

Out of the 1,200 acres on the site, the team is responsible for 150 acres which includes 14 pitches.

The grounds team upgraded its fleet of John Deere kit this year to better service the fields and to contribute to the college’s aim to reduce carbon emissions.

“We bought five TE Gators to replace the combustion Gators we had. They are not as fast, but they do the job just as well,’ says Alistair Cotton, Grounds and

Gardens Manager. “They last a day and we’ve had no issues with battery life. We’ve been with John Deere for 15 years, they’re always very competitive on price and the reliability of the machines is as good as any.

“The team has been really pleased with the new kit – with John Deere, it doesn’t matter what machine you’re in, it’s all the same excellent quality.”

Kubota releases electric tractor

The LXe-261 also includes key features for mowing, hauling, and other green space management tasks, such as an independent PTO, a comfortable HST transmission and multiple hydraulic outlets.

The specification of the LXe-261 is contained in a compact size, making this model well-suited to a range of applications.

Kubota’s new LXe-261 will soon be displayed at several shows in Europe, including SALTEX in November.

Vitalnova Stressbuster is a unique liquid formulation designed to pre-condition turf against stress and also aid recovery from stress.

The product can be used all year round which is something that impressed Kris.
