As the summer heat slowly fades away and the beautiful fall weather of Oklahoma is ahead, it is a great time for you to reengage in some of the great Association activities on the horizon. Events like the Evening of Giving and Build My Future have a lasting impact on the industry and the Fall Membership Drive is a great way to invite others to join our Association. Rebranded in 2014, The Evening of Giving, is the largest charity fundraiser for the HBA Charitable Foundation. This event is presented by the HBA Remodelers Council, in conjunction with the Home Remodeling Showcase, and annually raises more than $100,000 for charity. If you have not been to the event in the past, then you have surely missed out on an elegant evening of cocktails, great food, entertainment, and a silent and live auction. At the 2019 Evening of Giving we will partner with Revitalizing T-Town for the second year in a row to support housing repairs and renovations in the community. Please join us at the masquerade ball to be entertained by a ventriloquist, while supporting the HBA Charitable Foundation and Revitalizing T-Town. A special thanks go out to the Evening of Giving Committee and 2019 event chairs, Dana Day and Sheryl Chinowth. Gearing up for our second year of Build My Future brings excitement to the possibility of fostering the next generation of construction industry workforce. Although it has been close to a year since the inaugural event, the memories of high school students immersed in hands-on construction activities has been implanted in our minds. On October 8th, 2019, we will invite more than 1,500 high school students from across the Tulsa metro to participate in Build My Future. These students will get hands-on experiences in virtual reality, architecture and design, concrete, carpentry, masonry, engineering, welding, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work amongst other activities. We will show them the opportunities that exists in our industry and the immense need for them. The students, and their instructors, will surely leave the Tulsa Tech Riverside Campus with excitement for creating their pathway into the construction industry. I invite you to join us from 8:00am – 2:30pm on October 3rd to share in the experience of changing student lives through Build My Future. A special thanks goes out to the Build My Future Committee and event chairs, Matt Emmons and Phillip Parks.

With your involvement and support of events like Evening of Giving and Build My Future, and the large impact those events have on our community I have to ask, “Do you get a great return on your membership investment and have the ability to speak with industry partners about receiving that same return?” If the Association is performing as it should then I know your answer is “yes”. Now is a great time for you to introduce your industry partners and colleagues to the Tulsa HBA and receive some extra benefits for recruitment. The HBA Fall Membership Drive is underway and there are thousands of dollars in rewards that are available to our recruiting members and joining members. For participating in this recruitment drive you will automatically receive $25-$50 and triple spike credits for every new member you introduce to the HBA, plus you become eligible to win a trip to Cabo San Lucas and other prizes totaling over $4,000. Your new member has great incentives to join as well. Each new member will have their application fee waived, be invited to the membership drive celebration event, be listed in the 2020 Membership Directory, and possibly have their first year’s dues refunded to them. It is always a good time to join the Tulsa HBA, but the incentive offered until October 25th makes it even better for a short period of time! I hope you are truly receiving the most benefit from your membership in the Tulsa HBA and I encourage you to let me know if there is ever anything we can be doing better for the members! That’s the Scoop for now, Jeffrey Smith

2019 INAUGURAL HBA LEGACY AWARDS individuals identified as HBA members according to the 1977 membership directory. Their 42-year tenure is relevant since the HBA was charted in 1942, but most importantly, because they demonstrate the best attributes of an HBA member; loyal, reliable, and hardworking.

This year, the HBA Legacy Awards were established to express our gratitude for, and to uniquely recognize, members who have contributed their time, talent and treasure to the HBA. Familiar awards presented on August 13 were the Don Herrington Memorial Award and the Frank Sanders Memorial Award. These awards were created in 1999 to honor a Builder and an Associate member who have demonstrated selfless, long-term dedication to the Association. These awards are named in honor of the men who exemplified the characteristics of a perfect Builder member and Associate member. Newly created awards presented that evening include the Legacy Spike Award and the Legacy PAC Award, each presented to members based on their level of achievement and commitment. Last, but not least, the Legacy Member Awards were presented to eleven Burr Kannady and family
