2018 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

President Ryan Farabough Farabough Homes, LLC

By HBA President Ryan Farabough

Vice President/Treasurer Erin DeWeese Brian D. Wiggs Homes, Inc. S

Greetings all! Many HBA Builder and Associate members were burning the midnight oil to get the 150+ houses completed for the 2018 Parade of Homes. I know from personal experience that no matter how early you begin it always comes down to crunch time with members rising to the occasion and making it happen. For months, Mike Fournier, 2018 Parade Chair, and Parade committee members have been hard at work organizing a truly outstanding event. This year, more than 150 homes were featured throughout the metro area with home prices ranging from $174,000 to $1.6 million. Twilight Tours in the Stone Canyon, Yorktown, and Riverstone Estates subdivisions resulted in record-setting visitor attendance. The 40Below Council’s Party Bus Tour was a sold-out event with a private tour of homes built by our young professional members. Preliminary reports are that it was one of the most successful Parades in recent years with steady traffic and solid leads. To each and every member involved in this year’s Parade please accept my sincere appreciation for your efforts and participation in this annual HBA event. Another HBA annual event worthy of recognition is Appetite for Construction. On April 19, Carrie DeWeese, 2018 Appetite Chair, and committee members elevated this event to a new level. Kinetic energy filled Metro Appliances and More as members and guests enjoyed a moveable feast of food and beverages in Metro’s showroom kitchens as they staked out items worthy of the highest bid. At last report, net proceeds from the silent and live auctions totaled $68,000 benefitting the HBA Charitable Foundation. To date, the HBA Charitable Foundation has given over $700,000 in donations and services to local charitable beneficiaries. Thank you, Carrie, and to the donors and volunteers who participated in another record-setting event. I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank Ann Howell and Tarah Duncan, 2018 Golf Tournament co-chairs, for their outstanding efforts in promoting and organizing this year’s HBA’s golf tournament. According to Patriot Golf Club staff, this year’s HBA tournament was the largest tournament ever held at the Club that was not a Patriot-sponsored tournament. The combined efforts of Ann and Tarah, along with committee members resulted in the best prize distribution and sponsor recognition in recent years. While the Patriot Golf Club made for a one-of-a kind experience for players, it would not have been possible without Ann and Tarah’s leadership which made for a truly memorable tournament.

While there’s no doubt that HBA events are tremendously effective in promoting industry advocacy, education, and networking opportunities, it’s our members who make them happen. While the housing industry is showing continued improvement the HBA is slowing down in terms of membership recruitment and retention. Allen Jenkins, 2018 Membership Chair, recently appealed to our Board members to recruit one new member this year. I am making the same appeal to all HBA members now to be a sponsor/mentor/coach to another industry professional who would benefit from growing their business, saving money, and networking with others in the building industry. Those of us who have volunteered our time and efforts in the HBA know that our efforts are equal to the benefits received. If you need assistance with your recruiting efforts, please do not hesitate to contact me, Allen Jenkins, or Gabby Bridenbaugh. With the year half-way over, it’s been my pleasure to serve as your HBA president and reflect on past achievements, but there’s still more to accomplish. In July, your local leadership team travels to Portland for the NAHB Midyear Board of Directors meeting, and Council and Committee meetings. Look for that report in your next HBN edition. Fall is when we gear up for the Home Remodeling Showcase, Evening of Giving, Total Resource Campaign, OSHBA Building Summit, and Build My Future. Build My Future is the HBA’s first construction career day and industry showcase organized to promote a skilled industry workforce in the future. Students, their parents, and the public are invited to attend on October 25. In closing, thank you for the opportunity to become better acquainted, personally and professionally, and to truly see the depth of commitment that our members have for this association. I encourage all members to get involved and I promise this commitment will pay dividends. Please do not hesitate

Sincerely, Ryan Farabough

This summer our drive for membership is really heating up at the Tulsa Home Builders Association. From our Fast & Furious Membership Drive and recruitment vacation incentives to the upcoming structured dues payments and our Ambassador Program, we are prime for membership growth. If you know of a colleague or contractor that would benefit from membership (that’s everyone in the construction industry), then please speak with Membership Director, Gabby Bridenbaugh, or Membership Chairman, Allen Jenkins, and find out how easy it is to refer your contact for membership. The Fast & Furious Membership Drive took place from April 10th to June 27th and saw more than 50 new members join the association. Everyone who recruited a new member and each of the new members are going to have a celebration in July at BurnCo where 2 of the new members will win their membership dues for the year. Hundreds of dollars will be distributed to those that recruited new members and everyone will be able to increase their networking group of professionals while eating some great BBQ. Although the Fast & Furious Membership Drive has now concluded there will be another dedicated drive this fall with incentives you won’t want to miss. The Tulsa HBA membership is growing due to the great number of existing members that refer their peers through a targeted membership drive or our annual drive with an all expenses paid vacation incentive. If you like traveling to the beach and putting your feet in the sand, then take advantage of the opportunity we provide to win a trip to Jamaica or the Dominican Republic in 2019. All you need to do in the calendar year is refer 5 new members for membership for a trip for one and 8 new members for a trip for two. Each and every year since we have started this recruitment incentive, we have taken 10-20 guests on a great beach trip to relax and celebrate their efforts of recruitment. Membership Director, Gabby Bridenbaugh, would be happy to assist you through the process of referring your peer for membership and get you one step closer to the beach.

An exciting new opportunity for you to recruit your peers for membership is the upcoming structured dues program. We hope to launch this program by August 1st, and it will allow new and existing members to pay their membership dues either annually, quarterly, or monthly. You will hear more information about this program through our newsflash in the coming month, but we are excited at the impact that this program will have on the continued growth of our membership. Joining the Tulsa HBA is just the first step in becoming successful in our industry through networking with other industry professionals. We created the Ambassador Program 16 months ago to expedite a new members orientation and have seen great participation from new members. If you have recently joined the HBA and would like to find out how and where to get more involved, please let Gabby know you would like to join the Ambassador Program and she will get you paired up with a veteran member that will be excited to help you. We are confident in the product that the Tulsa HBA provides and urge each and every one of you to recruit your peers for membership so they can enjoy the same benefits that almost 1,000 other members currently enjoy. We are so confident that if they join and don’t have a great experience we provide a money back guaranty. Make time today to talk to someone about joining the HBA!

That’s the scoop for now,

Jeffrey Smith

STATE NEWS

Proud Land Owners While it has been mentioned on the monthly presidential videos and in the e-news, the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association recently closed on some land on North Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City. This land is located less than a mile from the State Capitol and is easily seen by motorists as they make their way to the Capitol. As state president David Blackburn has mentioned, this is an ideal location for a future building to house the state association that will increase the presence and visibility of our association to the legislators. This is something important to keep in mind that following the upcoming elections; almost 2/3 of the next legislature will have four years of experience or less. Being visible is essential for the advocacy efforts of the association. One of the most appealing items of the land purchase was the recent decision by the Oklahoma School Land Commission to begin selling the land they have held in trust along the Capitol corridor. This will make our investment in the land more valuable in the future years. Your state association strives every day to be good stewards of the funds you have entrusted to us through your dues and the activities in which you participate. This land purchase was a good investment.

Ken Saltink Selected as National Remodeler of the Month for May

May 1, 2018 (Tulsa, OK) — Ken Saltink of all American Remodel in Tulsa, OK was named the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodeler of the Month for May. Saltink was selected for his leadership, quality craftsmanship, customer service, and community involvement; as his company exemplifies the best in the remodeling industry. Approximately 140,000 builders and remodelers across the country are eligible for consideration of this monthly award. Ken Saltink with All American Remodel has been serving the Tulsa area for over 30 years doing everything from kitchen, bath and home remodels. His ability to listen to the customers’ desires and make them come to pass in their project is what sets them apart. This ability has made him one of the premier kitchen and bath remodelers in Tulsa and awarded him Remodeler of the Year two separate times.

24

Saltink’s involvement at the local HBA is one of the many reason’s he was selected. From the moment he joined the Remodelers Council he was immediately asked to join the leadership ladder. He currently serves as the 2018 Remodelers Council President. His emphasis on community involvement has been expressed through the many charitable projects that Ken has been involved in. Saltink with the Remodelers Council has headed a ramp build for a woman who lost her leg in a motorcycle accident, helped restore windows at the Lindsey House and recently helped build a pergola and bike rack for the Launch Outreach organization. Saltink continues to see ways that our community needs assistance and this has driven his motivation to stay involved in the Association.

Saltink continues to stand out as a remodeler by choosing projects in which he feels a connection with the homeowner on a personal basis, instead of focusing on cultivating a larger business. Saltink’s focus is more on choosing projects where he can offer the best service and make sure that every project ends with the consumer getting their dream home. Saltink continues to serve the Tulsa area and his hard work and drive to make the community a better place has not gone unnoticed.

HOME BUILDING NEWS 2018
