Claire & Laszlo Watson from Hampton Bishop enjoying a paddle round their flooded village

Hampton Bishop Endures Worst Flooding Since 1974 For the last two months our neighbours in Hampton Bishop have been hit with probably the worst flooding since the existing flood defences were built alongside the Wye and the Lugg in 1974. The BBC weather said that the amount of rain falling this winter in England and Wales (453mm) is the greatest since records began 250 years ago. The flood water in Hampton Bishop has on occasions been higher (eg in 2007) but the length of time that the village has been flooded has been exceptional this year and has made life in the village very difficult. The problem started before Christmas when so much rain fell that the fields become totally waterlogged. Then approx 12” (300mm) of rain fell between 1 January and 20 February. Since both the rivers Wye and the Lugg were high the drains into the rivers were inoperative and so the rain flooded the village roads for many weeks (most of which are below the flat fields). Residents either had their cars stuck in their drives or parked at unflooded properties at the edge of the village. They had a muddy and slippery walk across the fields to get

in or out of the village since the flood water on the roads was in many places too deep to walk through. Approximately ¾ of the length of the B4224 (Hereford to Mordiford road) from the Hereford end of the village to Mordiford was under water and closed when the flood was at its highest. At the same time approximately 90% of all the village roads were under water and impassable for most cars. Fortunately it is believed that no houses were flooded but sewage drainage from a few houses was prevented. Carrying provisions across the muddy fields was also very difficult so it was a great blessing when the army arrived to transport food ordered from the supermarket. Eventually a large pump was obtained to start pumping the vast amount of water over the defences into the river Lugg at Mordiford Bridge. At the time of writing (26 February) most of the roads are thankfully clear of water, as the pumps have done their job successfully and the amount of rain falling is now much less.

10K Run & Easter Egg Hunt Easter Sunday, April 20th, will see the first ever Tupsley 10k Run and Easter Egg Hunt. The run, starting at 10:00am from The Quarry, is being organised by Nicki Tyler, Councillor Jim Kenyon and the “Friends of St Paul’s School”. Funds will be raised for the Friends and to organise future events in Tupsley.

New Garden for St Paul’s School In November Central Tupsley Community Group (CTCG) started a garden program with St. Paul’s school. The community group paid to have old trees removed and the new garden rotorvated. There will be a volunteer day for both Group members and parents in the near future to re-establish the paths and build a raised garden with fruit trees and wild flowers. The school will then be working hard to try and obtain a “District in Bloom” award from the Royal Horticultural Society this Summer.

Those of an energetic nature can enter this race online. Please keep a look out on the Central Tupsley Community Group Facebook page for up to date information https://www. facebook.com/CentralTupsleyCommunityGroup . For those who would rather take things a little easier, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt at the Quarry from 11:30am to 1:30pm. At 11:30am there will be an Egg Hunt for the under 5’s and at 12:30pm a worksheet Treasure Hunt for the older ones. As well as the Easter Egg Hunt, there will be other activities and refreshments available. Do come along and join in the fun!

TupsleyVoice Central Tupsley Community Group AGM Report CTCG held their AGM at St Paul’s Community Centre on Monday 10th March, where they asked for new members to come along and join the group. If you missed the meeting, don’t worry, they’d still love to hear from you. The group is now in its third year and has achieved much in the neighbourhood - winning a few awards along the way too! Many of you probably attended the Picnic in the Park in July and the Bonfire Night Party in November - both of which were organised by the CTCG. As well as the Easter 10K Run and Easter Egg Hunt, there will be other events throughout this year. Why not come along and lend a hand - join in and make new friends along the way? Meetings are held monthly, but you don’t need to attend those if you’d rather not. The group would particularly love to hear from those in the Gorsty Lane area of Tupsley as they feel they are currently too much centred around the Quarry. Ring Jim on 07711 316 013 for more information - don’t be shy!

Grow and Share The Gardening Scheme in Tupsley is gradually becoming a reality. Partnerships are being formed between people who have gardens but do not cultivate them for various reasons, and enthusiastic gardeners who have nowhere of their own to grow plants. It’s a win-win situation and we all know there’s nothing more satisfying than growing your own veg (or flowers)! The scheme needs an enthusiastic gardener who can help advise a group of local people who want to grow their own produce. They also need a greenhouse if anyone knows of one that is no longer needed. If you want to join the scheme, or can help with these requests, please ring Jim Kenyon on 07711 316 013 who will put you in touch with our local Garden Scheme co-ordinator.

The Whitehouse Project

Neighbourhood Watch

What is the Project? The project is to redevelop the old Whitehouse Pub into a fit for purpose multi-functional community building, which will offer a range of vital and needed services to the local community.

Hereford City Northside Safer Neighbourhood Team would like to encourage anyone interested in starting a Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Group in their community to get in touch. NHW groups are generally small groups of 5-20 neighbours with a single point of contact, a coordinator. We will update the coordinator with information, send quarterly newsletters and liaise with them about any concerns the group may have. For more information and to register your group, please see www.ourwatch.co.uk If you would like any other information or if you would like to receive our newsletter by email, please contact PCSO Leeanne Marwick at leeanne.marwick@ westmercia.pnn.police.uk

The building is situated in Whittern Way in a densely populated residential community. Once refurbished, the Whitehouse Community Centre will hope to offer:

• Space for community/communal activities (which will also generate revenue)

• Space for community and statutory organisations to deliver key programmes of support for the local community, ranging from debt advice, social club, police surgeries, housing advice and community development support.

Phase one will see most of the ground floor brought into use, and the hoped for later phases will bring the whole building into use, including living accommodation on the first floor. What has been done so far? A lot of work has happened behind the scenes and the Whitehouse Board now has a long term lease on the building. A local architect has drawn up detailed plans for the building, and planning permission has been received from Herefordshire Council. A local contractor has been appointed to carry out the work. How much will it cost? The first phase has been costed at £236,000. There is a lot of work to be done, both inside and outside the building What is happening now? The board are trying to fund raise money to transform the building. So far Herefordshire Council has offered £75,000. Two environmental charities, CEMEX and Veolia have offered almost £40,000. In addition, Hereford City Council have offered £30,000 to help with running costs over the first three years. Other grants have been applied for and we are awaiting responses. We cannot start any work until we have all the money.

Tupsley Knitters The Tupsley Knitters meet on the 2nd Thursday in each month (except August) from 2-4pm at Hampton Park United Reformed Church, Hampton Dene Road. We knit for the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild who pass on the garments to homeless adults through a large number of charities in the UK. Some wool is provided but this is supplemented by the knitters. Over the years we have made (by special request) items for children in Africa and the premature baby unit at Hereford Hospital.

When will the building be open? That depends on the fundraising. If all our applications for funding are quickly successful then the building could be open this year. For further information please contact: Mark Inglis, mark.inglis@stpaulshereford.org.uk, Office Tel: 01432 274490

Do come and join us for a friendly two hours of knitting with a cup of tea and a biscuit.

News from Tupsley WI

The year started with a lunch in January for all members at The Bunch of Carrots. This was much enjoyed. At the first meeting of the year, members enjoyed a very interesting talk given by Bruce Freeman, when, with help of some excellent slides he took us across America from West to East, some of the journey by car, at other times by the Amtrak train service. For members who had already visited the USA the slides brought back some very happy memories of holidays in America and for those who had not visited America it made them want to visit all these wonderful places. Tupsley WI meet at The Shire Hall every 2nd Monday at 2pm. It is a friendly welcoming group and an interesting and varied programme has been planned for 2014. Why not come and join us.

TupsleyVoice MBE for Tupsley Voice Editor

The current editor of Tupsley Voice, Keith Pratley, was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for Services to the Community in Hereford. Keith is renowned for giving loyal service with great attention to detail while volunteering for several Herefordshire organisations. His award was primarily for 25 years helping to supervise, train, and in the last 5 years lead, the Hereford Sixth Form College Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Group, where his enthusiasm and care encouraged over 30 students each year to complete their 4 day camping expedition in the Welsh Mountains. He has also been involved with various fundraising and modernisation activities at St Paul’s Church for over 30 years, and for 20 years has been Treasurer and organiser of various activities with Hereford County Canoe Club (including occasionally organising the club to help rescue injured swans!). He is a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator, and one of 60 Glas Cymru Members whose job it is to look after the interests of all Welsh Water customers in the absence of shareholders. His 36 years diligent service for the community, working as a chartered engineer with Welsh Water to improve its infrastructure for the community, was also noted. Following the award our roving reporter managed to catch up with him to ask a few questions.

SATURDAY APRIL 5th Table games with curry or fish and chips. See Advert

A/ I got a letter in November, in a posh envelope marked secret. It was from the Cabinet Office informing me in strict confidence that the Prime Minister proposed to submit my name to the Queen, recommending that I be appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Before doing so the Prime Minister wanted to know if I would be willing to accept the honour. Of course I said yes!

SATURDAY JUNE 7th Table Sale + stalls and Strawberries

Q/ How hard was it to keep the secret?

A/ Maintaining requested (and inferred) confidentiality has been a fundamental part of my life so that was not difficult, though of course I had to tell my wife who I knew would keep the secret. However I have to admit to telling my three girls and their husbands 2 days before the New Year when they were all with us for Christmas; but by then I was aware that the Hereford Times had been informed, so I was fairly optimistic of not being thrown into the Tower of London.

Q/ When will you go to the Palace to receive your MBE and who will accompany you? A/ It will be on 15th April at Windsor Castle, with my wife Pam accompanying me. She does as much voluntary work as myself, as well as supporting me with my volunteering, so I like to think it is a joint award with her. I also very much see the award as recognition of all tremendous help given to me by the many volunteers in the various organisations that I have helped, especially my loyal Duke of Edinburgh Group helpers. Without them I could not have done what I did. Tupsley residents share your joy & send their congratulations to you & your family. Written by Tony Bailey

TupsleyVoice Tupsley War Memorial

When you go past the Tupsley Memorial do you wonder about the men whose names are listed on it, particularly as 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. Susan Layton and myself, Irene Lloyd, both members of Tupsley TWG, decided to do some research into a few of the names listed. The War Memorial was erected in 1920 and dedicated by Lt. Colonel and Mrs H.R.C Hewat in proud memory of their son, Captain Morris Hewat, others of their family and of all the other men of this parish who lost their lives in the war. We thought we would look into about six or eight names, a mix of officers and ranks. It is amazing how many different regiments are recorded there. There are 47 names from the First World War and 7 from the Second War. Tupsley Parish covered a larger area in 1914 and included Bartonsham, Aylestone Hill, Hampton Dene and Hampton Park. The Hewat Family Losses The Hewat men and their connections had all been serving officers in the army and had been stationed in India. The family lived at The Elms, Aylestone Hill. Captain Morris Hewat was serving with the Royal Scots as his father had done. The Hewat’s lost their son almost as soon hostilities began as he was killed at Orly on 8th September 1914 when he was 29 years old. He is buried at Orly-sur-Morin Communal Cemetery. Their daughter, Geraldine, married Captain C. J .MacClaverty in 1915 and they made their home at the Elms, AylestoneHill. A year later on 18th September 1916 Captain MacClaverty was killed and he is remembered at Thiepval. On 10th March 1915 the Hewat’s 19 year old nephew, G M F Hewat was killed. He was serving with the Indian Army Reserve of Officers and so is remembered at Neuve-Chapelle. Also in 1915 another relative Captain Edward Archibald Hume died in Turkey on 27th August when he was 36. He is remembered with 20,000 others on Helles Memorial where the casualties of Gallipoli are recorded This article will continue in the Summer Issue of Tupsley Voice.

Honda School of Dreams Bishops was delighted to welcome the School of Dreams during the last week of the Autumn term, a two day thinking skills programme supported by Honda UK. The programme is designed to develop the Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Framework (PLTS) for students and also offers teachers a wide range of materials and strategies to support PLTS across the curriculum. Also invited were students and staff from our local primary feeder schools. The programme is supported by Honda UK and as part of their commitment Honda personnel are also invited to attend the School of Dreams where ever the programme is run. In total over 30 students and staff spent two days working in teams, taking on a number of challenges which are all designed to develop individual Thinking Skills and reflecting on ways to fulfil their dreams. “We did so much at the School of Dreams, it was great fun but I learnt so much about me and now I can juggle too!“ Rory Fletcher CLP Year 7 “What a fantastic two days. I truly don’t know who gained more from the School of Dreams but both students and staff left excited and reflecting on how to achieve their dreams. The was an almost immediate impact with energised students and with over 30 parents coming to watch the student presentations on the final day, the whole event was a great success Bishops is now looking to develop a ‘Legacy Project’ within the school, based on the ideas generate by the students over the two days. A group of students will be developing a bid which Bishops can submit to Honda UK and if successful they receive grant funding of £500 to support them making their ‘dream’ a reality. TupsleyVoice St Paul’s School Mud Runner Star Tupsley Towns Womens Guild Eden Lloyd at St Pauls School was a superstar in last year’s Mud Runner kids race. He finished the 5 kilometre run in the amazing time of 31 minutes and 29 seconds and came 222nd out of 1527 runners. This was a significant improvement on his time the previous year which was also an amazing 36minutes and 56 seconds. He was like a squirrel, dodging through runners in front of him and had an amazing positive attitude the whole time. The picture shows him running up the freezing cold river just before the finish line. It is a big achievement for Eden. Just to give you an idea, there was a facebook update from an adult who did the same Mud Runner course later in the day in an adult race who said, and I quote, “Never, never, never, never, never again, I mean it, never, never, ever !!!”. Eden used the race to raise money with sponsorship for St Paul’s school’s support of the New Rock Foundation School in Kampala, Uganda. He collected the splendid sum of £214.71. The New Rock School is building boarding accommodation for children who are refugees or orphans. St Paul’s School has raised sufficient money for over 40% of the costs incurred so far. Its fundraising was sufficient to purchase 6 metallic windows, 3 metallic doors, put glass panes in all of them and pay all the builders wages. The works now require painting, ceiling boards purchased and fixed, and bathrooms to be constructed. So more money still needs to be found, and Eden is making it happen.

The Autumn session of the guild was an interesting one with “Tales from the potting shed” by Philip Carr, a record of a Buddhist wedding in Thailand by Gillian Beatty and Brian Draper’s humorous talk on the River Wye with its history , legends and tales of the people who live along its banks. We then had an interesting insight into how to research one’s family history by Brenda Allen. Next we came nearer home with a presentation of “The Rotherwas Experience - Women at work in two world wars” by Julie Orton-Davies. We had a social evening complete with home made mince pies in December and the annual Carol Service was held this year in Eignbrook Church. Several of our members went to Coventry Cathedral to attend the TG National Carol Service. The New Year began with a lunch at The Merton Hotel and followed at the next meeting by a hilarious talk on “Burns night in Moscow” by Christine Paterson. Wendy Tarplee-Morris told us of the “Little Princess Trust” which she was instrumental in setting up to provide wigs for youngsters who have lost their hair through illness. Originally local it has now become a national charity. The new programme starts in April. Why not come to visit us in Hampton Park Church on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7.30p.m. Gwenda Lowry

TupsleyVoice Hereford Gang Show

Gospel Choir Sing Like Angels

Several members of Tupsley Scout & Guide groups are part of a 100-strong cast rehearsing for the 2014 Hereford Gang Show which takes place at Easter at The Courtyard.

In February thirty members of the St Paul’s CE Primary School Choir took part in ‘Raising the Roof’, a Gospel concert at The Courtyard Theatre. The children sang beautifully in two part harmony and thoroughly enjoyed working with staff from the Birmingham Academy of Gospel Music. Parents who attended were full of praise for the pupils’ excellent performance.

The Hereford Gang Show (directed by Tupsley resident Ian Strangward) has a reputation for being one of the best of its kind in the Country, and features both children and adults performing songs & sketches old and new in what can only be described as a unique variety show for all the family. Rehearsals started in October and Tupsley Voice caught up with a few youngsters soon after they started their six-month journey towards show week. Owen Fish decided to join the cast as he wanted to enjoy the experience of rehearsing and putting on a show. “I’m looking to have fun!” he said. Sam Nikitik is also taking part for the first time and hoped to make lots of new friends. Some were attracted by the dancing, like twins Becky & Katie Saunders, whilst others like Jasper Darke were keen to be involved in some of the comedy sketches. Thomas Phillips appeared in the 2010 show but was unable to take part when it last took place in 2012, so was excited at being involved once more. One thing’s for certain: Director Ian Strangward promises lots of fun, but an equal amount of hard work!

Local Solicitors Will Make A Difference

Will Writing Fortnight 2014 – ends 28 March

We all know we should make a Will, but many of us put off doing so without realising the implications for those we will leave behind. So, in partnership with the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC), two solicitors are offering to help local people get their affairs in order while also supporting the College’s work with people who are blind and partially sighted. From 17 to 28 March Fiona Davies of Harrison Clark Solicitors, Hereford (01432 349673) and Nansi Webb of Gabbs Solicitors, Leominster (01568 616 333) are offering to waive their Will writing fee in exchange for a donation to RNC. The suggested donation is £80 for a single Will and £120 for mirror Wills. The money raised will give students at the RNC the chance to live independently and the opportunity to retrain for work or the prospect of university.

TupsleyVoice Hereford Redstars FC Julie Nicholas (Level 2 FA Coach) and Adam Walker (Level 1 FA Coach) started Hereford Redstars FC in October 2012. They are a club that started from scratch, basing themselves in the Tupsley area offering football to boys and girls aged 7 – 9 at the 3G facility at Hereford 6th Form College. Julie has been involved with football in Herefordshire for 18 years, spending most of that time coaching junior football at Pegasus Juniors, as well as playing and managing the Pegasus Ladies section. Julie now dedicates her coaching time to Hereford Redstars U8s and U9s and plays for Bartestree Ladies FC. She runs her own business providing small sided football leagues (Leisure Leagues) and runs 5 aside leagues for adults at the Hereford 6th Form College on the 3G. She quickly realised there was not a junior club based at the venue and local youngsters were missing out. High quality venues such as these should be used by all ages, standards and sexes and so she formed Redstars FC to achieve this. Starting with just four participants on their first evening to now coaching twenty four 7,8 and 9 year olds weekly, Redstars are growing from strength to strength. Hereford Redstars are looking for more volunteers that may be interested in coaching our Under 7 or Under 9 section. We are also looking for more players in both age groups. Redstars have funding to put the right people through their FA Level 1 coaching badges, please get in touch with Julie on 07771 857027 if you are interested. www. herefordredstars.co.uk - Julie Nicholas, Hereford Redstars FC “Redstar players of all ages at a Team Day event”

Sign2Sing at St Paul’s School In February St Paul’s School joined 100’s of other schools in an attempt called Sign2Sing to break the World Record for singing and signing the same song at the same time across multiple locations. Last year 116,980 children and adults (including the children and staff of St Paul’s) became Guinness World Record Breakers doing the same thing. The school should receive an email in March verifying whether last year’s record has been broken or not. All of the money raised from the event will be used to continue Sign Health’s work helping to improve the mental and physical health and well-being of deaf people. A total of £240 was raised this year by sponsorship of the event.

Margaret Burd

Margaret Burd, who died on the 31st October was a well loved member of the Tupsley community, working as a special needs assistant at St. Paul’s School as well as devoting much time to the local Brownies. Her funeral was a very fitting and moving occasion to her memory. Her husband, Jim, was supported by his two daughters, Elizabeth and Catherine, former Bishop’s School pupils, both of whom have achieved spectacular success in their chosen careers. Elizabeth achieved her target to become Dean at Durham University and is now as Deputy Vice-Principal at Newcastle University, Australia. Catherine is an Actuary with a leading insurance company in the London area. It is indeed good to see former Tupsley pupils reaching such heights.

TupsleyVoice Quarry Maintenance Work Party

St Paul’s School Trampoline Stars

A stalwart group of CTCG members braved the elements on Sunday 26th January to do some jobs around the Quarry. A litter pick group cleared up and filled several bin bags of debris that had been left lying around the Quarry. Hopefully with the new larger litter bins in place, litter will become a diminishing problem.

Congratulations to Jasmine Parry, Liberty Jones and Rebecca Board who gained 1st place again whilst representing St Paul’s in the Zonal Schools Trampolining competition in Loughborough on Sunday 19th January. The girls competed against 26 other girls in the Under 11 girls section and were a clear 4 points above the 2nd placed team.

Another group armed with spades dug a channel to divert the water off the path where it had almost turned into a lake by the Church Road entrance. Although not completely free of water on the path, it is now very much improved and considering the weather of late, this was no mean feat!

They were each presented with medals and also a trophy for the school to keep.

After a short break - with coffee and fresh home made rock buns served up by a group member - the new bench was installed. This lovely new bench will be more comfortable for sitting and watching the world go by, since it has a back on it !! This was something that was requested on the consultation that took place last year, so thank you to all those who took the time to fill it in.

The team have now qualified to go through to the National Finals, which take place on Saturday 22nd March in Gateshead Tyne and Wear. This is a major achievement and Hereford Dynamix Trampoline Club have never before had competitors qualify for the National finals. This is an amazing achievement for the girls. Well done! St Paul’s School and Tupsley Voice wish them every success and await the next instalment with anticipation…

West Mercia Police Bulletin: Gate Thefts To contact the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) email snt@westmercia.pnn.police.uk Please be aware that there have been a number of gate thefts on the area in recent weeks. Certain styles of gate can be simply lifted off their hinges and are therefore easy for thieves to remove quietly. It may be worth considering attaching a padlock or chain to your gate to prevent this. You can also cap the hinges to prevent removal and consider the use of property marking fluid to protect your property.

Bishop’s School Rugby Following the end of the rugby season, it concludes another successful year for the Bishop’s U15 rugby squad. Before being defeated by cup holders Warwick School in the last 32 of the NatWest Cup, there were many notable victories along the way which included beating schools such as Chosen Hill and Deans Close by considerable margins. A strong performance against John Kyrle School also ensured that the squad were winners of the domestic cup. In the penultimate game of the yearly fixture list, the squad travelled to Millfield School where they fought a close game and were eventual winners by 26-17. This toughly contested match was then followed with an emphatic win at Llandovery. They can now look forward to the sevens rugby season.

TupsleyVoice Schools Partnership Stronger Partnership between Aylestone High School and Broadlands Primary School goes from strength to strength. Aylestone Business and Enterprise College, one of our local high schools, has recently taken on the leadership of a second primary school. The previous federation between Aylestone College and Withington Primary School resulted in Withington being ranked in the top five within Herefordshire for SATS results in 2013. Aylestone College has now formed a leadership partnership with Broadlands Primary School. In an Ofsted inspection in January, the partnership between the two schools received praise, and is cited as a reason for the strong improvement seen in the school over the last six months. The Ofsted report for Broadlands is published on the Ofsted website. Any parents wishing to discuss the result with the head teacher Mrs Sue Woodrow, should contact the school on 01432 266772. We also welcome visits to the school at any time for prospective parents to view the children at work and chat about the school aims for the future. Mrs Sue Woodrow, Headteacher

From the Choirstalls: St Paul’s Church Christmas seems so long ago, but the memories of our Carol Service still remain clearly in our minds. This year, as well as All Together in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve and the Carol Service, with music from the St Paul’s Church Choir and Cantate Domino, we also had a Beer & Carols evening at the Rose and Crown, Ledbury Road, organised by Mark Inglis. Into the New Year, and the Junior Choir had their first choir outing - to the bowling alley in Hereford. After an hour’s bowling, we settled down to a tasty lunch. Our Junior Choir now has 8 members who are very close to being awarded their first certificates, signalling their official admission into the choir. The juniors rehearse from 6.30 until 7.30 on Thursday evenings, and take part in services at 10am on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. If anyone has children aged 7 - 16 who may be interested, do get in touch. The adults of the Church Choir rehearse from 7 until 7.45 on Thursday evenings and lead the singing on each of the Sundays of the month apart from the 4th Sunday. No musicreading ability is needed, and all voice parts would be most welcome to come and join us. Cantate Domino lead our worship on the 4th Sunday of each month, and we are especially looking forward to Sunday 23 March, when the choir will sing Faure’s Messe Basse, accompanied by a string quartet from Hereford Cathedral School. The choir held their first social and fundraising event on Saturday 1 February - a Curry and Jazz evening with the Castle Street Quartet. The quartet have been playing around the county since September 2013 and details of future events can be found on their website, www.castlestreetquartet.co.uk. The evening raised £611 for choir funds and this has enabled us to buy hymn books and other music. Thank you to everyone who came.

Local Policing in Tupsley The photograph of our new Tupsley Police Team was regrettably omitted from the article about the changes to local policing in the Winter Issue of Tupsley Voice, so it is included here. As reported, Tupsley is now part of the Hereford City Northside area.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team for Hereford City Northside consists of PCSO Leeanne Marwick and PCSO Anna Synnock who have been covering the patch for 7 and 6 years respectively, who have been joined by PC John Westlake and PCSO John Mackie. We welcome them all and look forward to helping them reduce the risk of crime in Tupsley. The new Hereford City Northside Safer Neighbourhood Team From left to right:- PSCO Anna Synnock, PCSO Leeanne Marwick, PC John Westlake and PCSO John Mackie.

Some members of the choir went to a Come and Sing Day with Bob Chilcott, where we looked at his St John Passion and ended with an informal sing-through. Jon Weller, Director of Music at St Paul’s, sang the evangelist solo at the event which took place at St Laurence’s Church, Ludlow. Jon has also recently taken on the post of Education and Training Officer at the Herefordshire and South Shropshire Royal School of Church Music, and so we hope to continue to build bridges and put St Paul’s on the map. Finally, there are two upcoming musical events at St Paul’s: On Wednesday 9 April at 6.30, Academia Musica are giving a concert of Passiontide music, including music by Scarlatti, Lotti and Allegri. On Saturday 21 June at 7.30, Ferndale Singers are giving a concert entitled “A History of British Choral Music”, looking at music from Merbercke to the Beatles and from Tallis to Sting. More details of these events will appear on posters in due course. Do contact Jon Weller, Director of Music at the church by emailing jonweller@stpaulshereford.org.uk or calling 07850 019 489 for more details about the musical opportunities at St Paul’s Church.
