fter 2019, one of Turner Industries’ most successful years on the books, we began 2020 with typical questions and concerns hoping to maintain the company’s positive trajectory. I will admit to you that a global pandemic was not on the expected short list of items. In early spring of last year, as COVID-19 began to spread and the world shut down, new thoughts arose: Will it be possible to safely return to jobsites and workplaces? Will our employees’ careers be upended? Will the communities in which we live and work suffer? It is true that over the past year we have all experienced hardship and sacrifice of varying degrees. But across the board, the resolve and spirit of Turner Industries’ workforce have proven to be steadfast and resilient, just as it has been the past six decades of the company’s existence. Safety – Deemed an essential workforce, the majority of Turner employees never missed a day on the job. With guidance from our corporate safety team and collaboration with our clients, innovative and proven protocols were implemented to ensure every person’s health and safety. Workforce Development – While it may not have been business as usual, Turner still safely managed to recruit, train and retain a qualified workforce. The workforce development team’s efforts were recognized with a national ‘Workforce Development Award’ by the Construction Users Roundtable, our fourth such honor by that organization since 2008. Community Investment – Due to the pandemic, as well as multiple natural disasters, 2020 did bring suffering to the cities and towns we call home. Turner employees, even those facing their own challenges, stepped up to volunteer their time and resources on multiple fronts including food drives, frontline worker support, and natural disaster response. In the following pages you will find more details and examples of Turner’s efforts in safety, workforce development and community investment. If you have any questions or would like to further discuss our corporate responsibility efforts, my door is always open.

THROUGH THE DECADES 1960’s -

A young engineer named Bert Turner buys Nichols Construction Company out of bankruptcy. The company specializes in industrial construction, heavy equipment, hauling, rigging and equipment rental. It doesn’t take Turner long to realize that the industrial construction industry is a series of peaks and valleys. So, he begins to take steps to ensure a steady stream of revenue, embarking on industrial contract maintenance and other services which fulfill the needs of his clients. In 1968, he hires Roland Toups who currently serves as Chairman and CEO.

1970’s -

Mr. Turner begins to acquire companies and add additional services like scaffolding, as well as continually expanding the equipment fleet and buying bigger cranes. These moves provide the company with opportunities to manage and control most of the elements that make up construction, maintenance and turnaround work.

1980’s -

The Turner group enters the fabrication business forming International Piping Systems and introduces a pipe bending process that revolutionizes the pipe fabrication business in the United States. The company participates in many of the large industrial construction projects being built in the Gulf South at the time.

1990’s -

Industrial specialty services, such as NDE and inspection services, specialized welding, and environmental remediation are added to fill client needs as they arise. Proprietary programs are developed internally to better track and manage work.

2000’s -

The early companies consolidated into one entity— Turner Industries Group—with 4 main business lines: Construction; Maintenance & Turnarounds; Pipe and Module Fabrication; and Equipment and Specialty Services. Five fabrication facilities located across the Gulf South make Turner the largest privately held fabricator in the United States.

TURNER INDUSTRIES

In Memoriam On December 27, 2020, Suzanne Pauline Wilbert Turner peacefully passed away. Suzanne, or “Mrs. Sue” as she was widely known, was the devoted wife of Turner Industries’ late founder Bert Turner, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and the matriarch of the extended Turner Industries family. Mrs. Sue had a lifelong passion for giving back and was an avid supporter of the arts and education. A devoted preservationist, Sue was recognized nationally for her advisory work with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She helped create the Baton Rouge Arts and Science Center, now the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, in 1960, and led the preservation of BREC’s Magnolia Mound Plantation and other historic structures throughout south Louisiana. Bert and Sue’s five children—Suzanne Turner, Robert Turner, Mary Margaret “Moo” Svendson, Thomas Turner and John Turner—have all followed their parents’ lead, serving as museum volunteers and board members and donating to a variety of arts and cultural institutions. Executive Chairman Roland Toups says, “Mrs. Sue was brilliant in all aspects...She brought a sense of decorum, class and smarts everywhere she went.”

hat an unbelievable year – a global pandemic, an economic downturn, and numerous hurricanes. Throughout these

and countless other day-to-day challenges, Turner Industries employees proved that diligence, hard work and a spirit of perseverance can overcome all obstacles.

Turner Industries arrived at the conclusion of 2020 with another record-setting year of safety and health results. Among all business units and across all business sectors, our safety performance improved. This was supported by a solid safety corporate culture, strong relationships with our clients, and the unwavering commitment of our employees and the communities we serve. While learning to work in a new and evolving environment with temperature checks, face masks, social distancing and numerous other controls, Turner employees developed the attitude of “adapt and overcome.” There was an enhanced spirit of looking out for one another as we embraced the changes and the challenges and sought out unique pathways to success. As we look forward, our 2020 performance, through the above-mentioned obstacles, further strengthened our safety foundation and resolve and will propel us toward even greater success in the years to come.

Safety Excellence In 2020, Turner Industries was selected to join a small group of vendors and contractors to participate in the Shell Global Contractor Safety Leadership Program. Shell created the Contractor Safety Leadership Initiative to encourage Shell companies and their contractors to work more closely with the goal of improving safety performance and outcomes. Through the Initiative, Shell executives pair up with an executive from selected contractors and vendors. Together these pairs work on fostering a culture in which safety matters can be discussed openly and respectfully. Using feedback gathered from frontline employees, they can implement changes and track progress.

“It is an honor to be selected for this program based on the work we do with Shell across their system and our safety track record. Recognition like this is a testament to the entire company—not just those working in or for Shell sites. It is a reminder that every Turner employee has a role to play in creating the legacy that is Turner Industries,” said Turner Industries Shell Alliance Manager Jonathan Guidry.

2020 Safety Focus When COVID-19 arrived in the United States, it became an employee exposure hazard in addition to the routine hazards that our employees face each day. It is no surprise that Turner Industries’ primary safety focus of 2020 was centered around preventing and mitigating the virus amongst the company’s workforce. A comprehensive COVID-19 response plan was implemented in March, which included guidelines on temperature checks, face coverings, social distancing, proper handwashing, and hygiene, as well as area disinfection. When travel restrictions were put in place, placards were made for employees, considered essential workers by the federal government, who needed to cross state lines to get to work.

We have had a pandemic response protocol and business continuity plan for many years. It was always one of those programs that seemed good to have, but something we may never use. March of 2020 showed us why being prepared always proves to be a prudent decision. It allowed us to quickly implement the necessary controls, adjust them as the pandemic evolved and focus on protecting our employees and their families as well as our peers that also work in the many facilities we enter daily. - Senior Corporate Health and Safety Manager Karen Powers.

Safe + Sound Week In 2020 Turner Industries was once again a proud participant of OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week. Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America’s workers safe. To celebrate the week, the safety department highlighted five topics, one presented each workday, which were shared with employees at all Turner sites and locations: COVID-19 Safety – Hand Safety – Mental Health Awareness – Life Critical Safety Rules – Office Health and Safety.

Hand-Safety Week Our hands are one of our most important instruments but too often we don’t consider them as such. Each year over a quarter of a million people suffer serious (and often disabling) hand injuries, many of which could have been easily avoided. By recognizing hand hazards, following established safety guidelines, and using protective guards, shields, gloves, and other personal protective devices, you can save your hands from injury and yourself from unnecessary disability. To emphasize these points, Turner Industries’ safety department held a “Hand-Safety Week” focusing on employee training, behavioral observation, and corrective actions.

Corporate Safety Excellence Awards 2020 In 2020, Turner Industries’ employees worked in elevated hazardous health conditions while still retaining a stellar safety record. This could have only been accomplished through the drive and commitment put forth by each Turner team member. Their efforts are honored by Turner Industries’ executive leadership team through recognition via the Corporate Safety Excellence Awards. Site performances across the company are rigorously evaluated and awarded accordingly. Awards are based on the following criteria: incident performance statistics, safety process implementation, metrics/leading edge indicators, employee involvement and engagement, and employee development processes. The top performing site or facility within each operational division receives the President’s Safety Award.

The Turner team’s fortitude is inspiring and shines as both an example to others and a beacon of hope during these trying times.

David Franks Chief Operating Officer

2020 tested our resolve unlike any other year most of us have ever experienced. The pandemic placed an enormous amount of stress on our people, company operations, and communities. On top of that, the Gulf South experienced the most active Atlantic hurricane season on record, compounding the challenges. With more people than ever in need of assistance, I have never been more proud of our employees. Not only have they been working safely during the pandemic and multiple natural disasters—but also have unselfishly volunteered their time, talents, and resources supporting those fighting COVID-19 on the frontline, and those restoring battered communities. The Turner team’s fortitude is inspiring and shines as both an example to others and a beacon of hope during these trying times. Last year, the Turner family also experienced a tragic loss with the passing of Mrs. Sue Turner, wife of Turner Industries’ founder, the late Bert Turner. Nationally recognized, Mrs. Sue’s passion for arts education and historical restoration is a legacy we will proudly carry forward.

HURRICANE LAURA

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season was the most active Atlantic hurricane season on record. The season produced 30 named storms—Hurricane Laura being one of them. When Laura made landfall in the early morning of August 27, it became the strongest hurricane to hit the state of Louisiana, as measured by maximum sustained winds, since 1856. With gusts up to 132 miles per hour, Laura completely devastated a large swath of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas. Tens of thousands of people, many of whom are Turner Industries employees, clients, and their loved ones, were impacted by the storm. Before the clouds could part, Turner divisions and employees across the south began mobilizing resources and volunteers to assist those in need. A command central was established at Turner’s operations facility in Sulphur, Louisiana. It was here that over 26,000 meals were prepped and served, and volunteers and equipment were deployed where needed. The effort was a massive undertaking full of heartache and sadness, but also filled with stories of hope and humanity. Turner employees, many of whom were directly affected themselves, worked together in service of their co-workers, clients, and the community at large. 30

Here are a just a few examples of TEAM Turner COVID-19 relief efforts

In Baton Rouge, employees participated in ‘Feeding the Frontline,’ an effort organized by Associated Builders and Contractor’s Pelican Chapter, and saw volunteers from 40 contractor companies get together and cook for over 3,000 frontline healthcare workers.

In Beaumont, Texas, Turner employees filled food boxes for families, together with the Southeast Texas Food Bank.

In Pasadena, Texas, Turner employees assisted the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce in “Operation Stock the Shelves,” a food drive to stock the shelves of multiple local food pantries. This included utilizing Turner’s truck fleet to haul food from warehouses to delivery centers.

At Ascend Materials in Chocolate Bayou, Texas, Turner employees provided money toward a meal for the night shift workers in the Emergency Room at Southeast Memorial Hospital in Houston.

In Sulphur, Louisiana, Turner Specialty Services employees performed cleaning and disinfecting application services to all playground equipment at every park within the Sulphur Parks & Recreations “SPAR” district. The detergent, commonly used in hospitals, nursing homes, schools/ colleges, commercial and industry institutions, was vapor blasted onto the playground equipment. Once the detergent dries, the equipment is sanitized, safe and ready to use.

It All Starts With Us With social distance protocols at jobsites across the country, Turner Industries’ 20202021 United Way Campaign looked a little different this past year. The campaign— whose success usually relies on face-to-face interactions with employees—was presented a major obstacle when the pandemic prevented most of those meetings from happening. Thankfully, with the use of technology, employees heard from co-workers and executives via heartfelt video messages. While there were increased obstacles running the company-wide campaign, it was as important as ever to make it happen. From the pandemic to natural disasters, more people than ever are in need of the support services that United Way provides—including many of our own employees. Turner is proud to report that for the 2020-21 campaign, employee pledges along with corporate donations totaled $1,837,520.36. “This was a year like no other, but as always, Turner employees made a difference in their communities. It was amazing to see everyone come together while, of course, keeping six feet apart,” said Turner Industries Campaign Manager Michelle Hardy.

Stephen Toups President

The success of Turner Industries, and therefore our clients, relies on our ability to attract, retain, and train a quality workforce. This is not a one-sided equation; it’s a continuum. Operational success and growth lead to more employment opportunities, career paths and economically stable communities where our employees live and work. While 2020 was challenging in the obvious and universal ways, the Turner workforce, deemed essential service providers, continued safely working day in and day out. Along those lines, hiring, recruiting, and training also never stopped. Employee-generated innovations and processes were implemented throughout the year to make sure health and safety protocols were accounted for as we continued to operate successfully across the country. In the following section we highlight our 2020 workforce efforts as well as various awards and recognitions we received from industry peers both in our backyard and nationally.

Turner Industries Receives National and Regional Recognition for Workforce Development Efforts In 2020, Turner Industries received the top national award for its efforts in workforce development. The Construction Users’ Roundtable (CURT) award is given annually to the best workforce development program in the nation. Contractors and industry associations submit extensive applications for a particular program that they feel would be of interest to the awards committee. This year, Turner submitted the program “Maximizing Louisiana’s Incumbent Worker Training Program to Expand Workforce Development Outreach at Turner Industries Group, LLC,” which secured Turner this prestigious distinction. Since the inception of the CURT awards program in 2008, Turner Industries has won the award four times and received one honorable mention. To put this into perspective, this accomplishment is extraordinary since companies are not eligible to apply the year after winning the award. Additionally, Turner Industries received several awards from the Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance (GBRIA). Turner Industries Group has won the Award of Excellence every year since this award program began in 2007 and is the only company with this distinction. We also began applying separately for Turner Specialty Services in 2015, and have been given the Excellence Award every year for TSS as well.

• Award of Excellence – General Construction and Maintenance – Division III (10 Million plus hours) – Turner Industries Group, LLC (TIG) • Award of Excellence – Specialty Trades – Division II (2.2 Million – 7 Million hours) – Turner Specialty Services, LLC (TSS) • Best of Division – Division II – Turner Specialty Services, LLC (TSS)
