ow! What a whirlwind! Since this time last month over 50 thousand of you have viewed the first issue of TWO Magazine. Thank you all for your encouragement, support and wonderful feedback. This month’s issue is all kinds of fashion week related. TWO Magazine’s fashion insider, Kate Gowing, takes you behind the scenes with our A to Z Fashion Week special. We have two exclusive tutorials: 60s icon Jean Shrimpton and the current a/w trend for dark eye/dark lip. There’s a 5-minute interview with the Director of Makeup Artistry for MAC, Terry Barber. US based make-up artist Lottie Stannard lists her essential kit products and we chat to Sorapol, the London based fashion brand that launched this time last year. If you would like to submit any beauty or fashion stories for potential inclusion in TWO, please email submissions@two-magazine.com

Neons, electrics, pastels… all have incredible allure to me. I’ve been influenced by every historical period but I think that the early 80s spirit will always find its way back into my work. The best and worst aspects of working fashion shows? The worst is fatigue caused by lack of sleep and intense stress. The best is instant gratification and the creative satisfaction of working on many of the worlds most beautiful models. Who was your favourite designer or what was your favourite look to work with at S/S13? I have worked on the show for Jean-Pierre Braganza over many seasons and I love our collaboration as he always allows me to create something pretty unique. This season I did a very graphic eyeline design for him in strong azure blue to reflect the graphic prints in the clothes. Aside from the hustle and bustle backstage, what’s the biggest difference working catwalk as opposed to photo shoots? Do you have a preference? The focus of a show is different to iD MAGAZINE, 18

HE HRIMP THE WORLD’S FIRST SUPERMODEL

WITH HER LONG LEGS AND SLIM FIGURE “THE SHRIMP” BECAME AN ICON OF 60s SWINGING LONDON AND PAVED THE WAY FOR GAMINE MODELS EVERYWHERE Born on a farm in Buckinghamshire, England, Jean Shrimpton began her modelling career at the age of 17. It was when working with legendary photographer Brian Duffy on a Kellogg’s Corn Flakes ad that Shrimpton was ‘discovered’ by another photographer, David Bailey. And so begun a union that would define the look of the 60s.

hrimpton and Bailey embarked upon a personal and professional

relationship that lasted four years until she left him for the actor Terence Stamp.

Shrimpton later stated that she owed Bailey her career, although some may say that the reverse is true and that Bailey owes much of his iconic status to Shrimpton’s look. In 1965 she brought the miniskirt

races in Melbourne, Australia, Shrimpton wore an above the knee dress, a man’s watch and no hat, stockings or gloves – shocking at the time!

Shrimpton retired from fashion in her early thirties and has kept a low profile since. In an interview last year she said

ashion Week… Paris, Milan, New York, London. Four weeks of pure exhiliration,

stress and sleep deprivation. Where an army of make-up artists, hair stylists, nail artists and assistants jostle with designers and the media to polish the already beautiful models. It’s crazy, it’s irrational, it’s decadent, it’s beautiful, it’s ugly, but it’s also wonderful. Here’s our rundown of the A to Z of Fashion Week S/S13.

a dramatic weight loss that put her in the centre of the size zero debate. Further run-ins with the law during 2007 finally concluded in a four day jail sentence, of which, she only served 82 minutes. In the same year Nicole became pregnant with Good Charlotte front man Joel Madden, and turned her focus to fashion. In 2009 Nicole gave birth to a baby girl, Harlow Winter Kate Madden who, it’s said, inspired her first jewellery collection.

“MY MOM ALWAYS WANTED ME TO DRESS LIKE HER” House of Harlow 1960, is a nod to Nicole’s favourite fashion era. The brand is a collaboration between Nicole and jeweller Pascal Mouward of Glam House (a platform for celebrity jewellery lines). The Egyptian come Navajo come rock and roll styled pieces were an immediate success, a ‘must have’ amongst celebrities and fashion folk alike. In its first season it sold out online and has since gone from strength to strength. In 2009 Nicole had her second child, a baby boy

named Sparrow James Midnight Madden. She decided to put her spare energy into furthering her fashion business and began designing. Winter Kate (Harlow’s middle names) is a ready-to-wear collection that encapsulates her own bohemian style with a sophisticated twist. She was crowned Glamour Magazine’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ 2010, a title which surely reflects her re-invention and success in business. Both fashion lines are now sold worldwide and include apparel, handbags, shoes, jewellery and an array

of Nicole’s signature accessory... sunglasses. Nicole has recently released her second semiautobiography entitled Priceless (2011), re-entered the reality TV spotlight as a mentor on America’s Fashion Star (NBC, 2012) and debuted a self-titled fragrance. All this, alongside marrying rocker Madden. Although she has made some poor decisions in life, they have undoubtedly made her into the woman she is today. With plans to create a lifestyle brand, “I’m going to do home furnishings... everything”, it will be exciting to see what the future brings.
