be more complex to assist in target ranging or holdovers for example. If the battery fails in a red dot sight you’ll need to switch to backup sights. Although Prism sights are illuminated and require a battery, if the battery fails you still have a visible etched aiming reticle. Bushnell’s LIL’Prism meets those criteria. For this review, I used a 9mm PDW to test drive Bushnell’s first 1x prism sight. After a bit of range time, I came to love this little optic. My first thumbs up goes to the Circle Dot/BDC reticle.

Bushnell presented the LIL’Prism sight at Shot Show 2019; part of the Company’s Tac Optics Red Dot Sight introduction. It has the distinction of being the smallest Prism sight on the market. I usually get a blank stare when I mention prismatic optics to folks, so let’s get a short overview out of the way.

The reticle does an excellent job of directing your vision on target making acquisition as quick as any reflex sight. The sight has a generous 3.5” eye relief. A more granular look at the reticle reveals its

Conventional glass optics focus the image through at least a couple of lenses. They also require concave and or convex lenses with specialized coatings. Because the lenses need to be relatively far apart, the optic tends to be large footprint. A prism sight focuses light through a glass prism. Because they do not rely on multiple lenses, the Prism sight is smaller and tends to be a fixed power optic of lower magnification than the traditional magnified scope. Prism sights have some distinct advantages over red dot sights. The ocular is adjustable and the reticle is etched. It can also

Activating reticle illumination is a very straight forward process, simply press and release the up arrow. Once illumination is active, you have 12 brightness settings. Increasing and decreasing intensity is self-explanatory, and to turn off illumination press and hold the down arrow for 3 seconds.

The LIL’Prism is also very light, coming in at 4.56 oz. making it an ideal sight for a PDW, pistol or SBR platform. Many of these platforms are rail space challenged, so this sight’s overall length of 2.3 inches is just right. Bushnell also gave us an adjustable ocular, so if you have less than perfect eyesight, you won’t have any problems getting a crisp reticle and sight picture. The sight is powered by a single CR2032 lithium battery that powers the reticle illumination for about 50,000 hrs. It also features a 2 hr. auto shutoff feature to preserve battery life. The LIL’Prism features an aluminum body and is both shockproof and IPX7 water resistant. Bushnell ships the sight with a high-rise Picatinny mount that allows for a near perfect co-witness.

The LIL’Prism is adjustable for windage and elevation in 1 MOA increments. The turrets provide both audible and tactile feedback. Bushnell supplied a very generous 100+ MOA of adjustment, which I found surprising because of this sight’s diminutive size.

Bushnell has done an exceptional job. The LIL’Prism tracks consistently well, offers 100+ MOA of adjustment, has first-rate optical clarity, excellent battery life, adjustable diopter, robustness and an M.S.R.P. of $299.99, when you can find one, but do shop it around because there are deals to be had. -SP
