By: Sal PalmaGPO USA, German Precision Optics, is an American Company located in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The company offers a premium line of rifle scopes, binoculars, laser range finders and thermal imaging.
GPO USA is owned and operated by Michael Jensen, a highly regarded outdoor industry veteran with an impressive record in the industry His company works side-by-side with GPO, GmbH, a German based company owned and operated by Richard Schmidt, formerly CEO of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics, GmbH. GPO, GmbH is the global owner of the GPO brand.
In this review I will introduce you to the GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i LPVO, a member of the company’s tactical line.
There is no shortage of quality Low Power Variable Opticsonthemarket, butfewcan boast theexceptionalquality, design, andperformance of the GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i
My initial encounter with this optic was like experiencing a fine wine. You don’t need to see
the label to recognize quality, you look at color, body and experience a superb bouquet.
The GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i. is built on a 30mm aircraft grade aluminum tube allowing for 33 MILSofwindandelevationadjustmentaswellas an abundant amount of light.
The GPOTAC features large resettable nonlocking tactical turrets calibrated in .1 MRAD (1 click = 1cm/100m) per click. Tactile is excellent, every click is audible and felt. Once zeroed, you can reset the wind and elevation turrets by loosening the turret caps, and while pulling up to disengage the turret cap from the turret gears rotate thecapto align the zeromark with the scope body index mark.
The GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i features German electronics and High-Definition Japanese glass, its optical brightness and image resolution is quite remarkable. The technical specifications
show light transmission to be 90%, which I believe to be a conservative estimate. The GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i is comparable to high-end European optics; with optical clarity and resolution equal to the Leica lenses I have had the opportunity to use.
clicks the illumination control through steps 111. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this feature, GPO’s iControl illumination is far superior in that it allows the shooter to precisely adjust reticle brights for any ambient light condition. You will not encounter a situation where a setting of 3 is too dim and a 4 is too bright, it does not get any better than that.
The first focal plane reticle is exceptionally effective, affording rapid target acquisition with pinpoint accuracy. The horseshoe center dot draws your eye to the target producing excellent results.
HSi-CQB reticle
What makes the GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i a homerun for me is its iControl illumination system. U.S. made rifle scopes, of all magnifications, use a stepped illumination adjustment. The shooter
Throughout my range sessions I was able to consistently maintain .5-to-.6-inch groups.

I received reticle specs from GPO that I am still digesting, so at this point, I will say that the reticle design supports effective ranging out to 400 meters on a 19-inch (48 cm) or 69-inch (175 cm) target or making holdover shots at limited ranges. This is my assessment based on my understanding of the provided reticle specifications.
illumination back to the shooter. A potential source of confusion under stress. The solution is simple, transition to an appropriately sized plastic flip cap.
In closing every single desirable characteristic of a high-performance optic is present in the GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i. Optical clarity and resolution are exceptional, precise point of impact adjustment, precise reticle illumination under any lighting condition, an extremely comfortableeyereliefof4inchesandafirstfocal plane tactical reticle that is both accurate and extremely fast, and all in a compact package weighing just 614 grams (21.6 oz).
Neither elevation nor wind turrets are capped, which suggests that GPO empowered the shooter to dial in elevation and windage adjustments in .1 MRAD increments for any range.
Is there anything that I would do differently?
There is absolutely no need for the see through objective lens flip cap. I say this because if you need to use a bright reticle illumination setting, the see-through cap will reflect the reticle
GPO has a large global presence, particularly in the EU; however, in the US, they are still a relatively new brand in the retail space. GPO has been making steady progress as shooters and hunters discover the company’s excellent optics. From my perspective, if the GPOTAC 6X 1-6x24i is representative of GPO’s other lines, U.S. retailers need to put them on their shelves.
