STREAMLIGHT’S STINGER COLORRITE
By: Sal PalmaStreamlight introduced the Stinger Color-Rite handheld flashlight at the 2023 Shot Show in Las Vegas. This rechargeable light is unique in that it features Streamlight’s Color-Rite technology driven by an L.E.D. with a high color rendering index (CRI) L.E.D.
The CRI is an L.E.D. metric that quantifies how well color is rendered. The CRI value tells how well a light source shows colors when compared to incandescent light or daylight. A CRI of 100 shows true color. The L.E.D. used in the Stinger Color-Rite light has a CRI of 90, which is excellent, so users will see colors as if under natural light.
Unlike the CRE L.E.D., which generates white light, the Stinger Color-Ritelight projects awarm 3000K beam. The warm light source is ideal for investigative work in law enforcement, and where color visualization is important. For example, in electronics, wires and components like resistors are color coded, and it’s important to identify those colors correctly. In law enforcement work, its softer, and warmer beam
can reveal tracks and blood splatter, among many other uses.
Streamlight developed the Stinger Color-Rite at the request of the U.S. Military, and by the U.S. Border Patrol to meet their specific needs.
The light’s deep-dish parabolic reflector projects a tight concentrated beam with an abundance of peripheral light. It features three modes and a strobe, all accessible via a
head mounted push button switch. A light press of the switch gives youmomentary operation on high. A full press with a click gets you into continuous operation at high output. Pressing and holding the switch from an on condition, cycles the light through high, medium, and low. Two rapid clicks activate the strobe function. Lastly, from any on mode a single click powers the light off.
On High, the Stinger generates 500 lumens, 17,500 candela, with a 265-meter beam distance, Medium outputs 275 lumens, 9,000
candela, 190-meter beam distance, and Low 140 lumens, 4,500 candela, 134-meter beam distance.
The Stinger ColorRite is powered by a 3-cell, 3.6-volt, 2.6Ahr rechargeable Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery, delivering run times of 1.5 hours on High and providing three continuous hours in strobe mode. The battery is rated for 1000 recharge cycles.
With a smart charger, it fully recharges in about 4.5 hours using the 5V/1A USB input
high CRI rating makes investigative work easier. A feature that I liked a great deal was the body serrations, they contribute to an excellent purchase
The StingerColor-Rite isarobust andheavy-duty tactical light that should have a long service life and will serve you and our CBP well. Add one to your kit.
