HOLOSUN’S SOLAR CHARGING SIGHT (SCS) MOS

In April of 2022, HOLOSUN announced the SCS (Solar Charging Sight). The company’s objective was to produce a full featured sight that didn’t need a battery, and could be mounted directly to the pistol’s slide without the need for a mounting plate.
Recognizing that GLOCK has a large market share and that GLOCK’S Modular Optic System (MOS) models needed an MRDS that allowed cowitnessing, and one that placed the aiming dot closer to the bore’s centerline, HOLOSUN designers developed the HOLOSUN SCS MOS. I can only describe it as a brilliant idea, and as of this writing, the company offers an SCS for the HK VP9, Walther PDP, SIG P320 and Smith & Wesson MP2 pistols as well
The SCS is powered by an internal battery that’s kept fully charged by an array of solar cells located
at the rear of the sight. They provide charging current inambient light, aswell as sunlight. From a fully charged internal battery, you can expect 20,000 hours of run-time. HOLOSUN is so confident in their design that in the event of a battery failure, they will replace it for you.
The SCS features a side mounted function switch that allows the user to select from three reticle patterns: circle dot, dot only and circle without a center dot. It also provides for an intensity override and powers down the sight.
The switch is mounted flushtothesight’ssurface which mitigates the risk of accidentally depressing it during firing but may be a bit difficult to use.
On initial power up, the reticle defaults to a circle dot. This Is a 2 MOA dot centered in a 32 MOA circle. The reticle size makes a great deal of sense. At 25 yards the 32MOA covers 8 inches of
the target so delivering a center mass shot is fast as well as combat accurate.
Reticle brightness is controlled via multidirectional sensors. The system works extremely well with no delays in reticle brightness transitions. The self-adjusting reticle brightness function can be overridden for a period of 30 minutes by a single press of the function switch. In this mode, the reticle is projected at its highest brightness. After the 30minute window expires, the SCS returns to its self-adjusting mode. Pressing and holding the function switch will change your reticle from circle dot to dot only, repeating that will change the reticle from a 2 MOA dot to a 32 MOA circle At this point, if you press and hold, the SCS will power down.
a mere 1.3 ounces. Optical clarity is quite good, but I didnotice avery slightgreen tint around the window’s edges.
Zeroing the sight is accomplished via elevation and wind adjustment controls in 1 MOA clicks, which are audible with excellent tactile.
The SCS MOS is IP68 rated so rain or adverse weather conditions should be a non-issue.
HOLOSUN did a great job with fit and finish. The SCS fits the slide cut perfectly, there is no lateral movement, and the sight sits flat and securely on the pistol’s slide. HOLOSUN even included matching serrations along the sight’s edge.

Although the sight features a power off feature, it’s clear that HOLOSUN intended the sight to remain powered up even in storage, and ready to go at a moment’s notice. If you like powering the sight down, you’ll need to make your reticle selection again when you power up the sight.
My pitch to HOLOSUN for a subsequent release of the SCS is to have the reticle selection placed in memory so it’s available on power up.
The SCS MOS is an outstanding MDRS in both concept and function. With product offerings like the SCS MOS, it’s easy to see why HOLOSUN enjoys tremendous market success. Well done HOLOSUN! -SP
