MEOPTA’S MeoSight IV
- The smallest and lightest red dot sight in Meopta’s lineup
By: Sal PalmaMeopta Sport Optics debuted the MeoSight IV at Shot Show 2023; introduced as Meopta’s smallest and lightest red dot reflex sight. It was an interesting offering for its small footprint and light weight, coming in at a mere 1.2 ounces.
Meopta enjoys a global reputation for the quality of their optics, and that was evident when looking through their new reflex sight. The premium lens is scratch resistant and coated to provide an excellent image.
Unlike competing smaller sights, the MeoSight IV features a large viewing window measuring 27x14 mm, and target acquisition is quick.
Despite the sight’s compactness, I was not able to pick up the rear sight on two test platforms, an FN FNX on the left and Glock MOS on the right. Both pistols have suppressor height sights.
The MeoSight IV is built on aircraft grade aluminum and features 1x magnification and 3
MOA dot, which I feel is a good compromise for both long gun and pistol applications.
The sight ships with a Picatinny rail adapter, so it’s mountable as an offset backup sight on your AR platform, a railedscope cap or the railonyour tactical shotgun.
The MeoSight IV has two modes of operation: manual and automatic all controlled via the side mounted + or – buttons.
To power up the sight in manual mode simply press the + button, you can then adjust the dot intensity via the minus button. Pressing and holding the minus button powers the sight down in both manual and automatic modes. To place the sight in automatic mode, the sight must be powered-up, then press the + and – buttons simultaneously. The sight will now adjust the red illumination based on ambient light. The sight is very responsive to ambient light and adjusts intensity seamlessly. In darkness the sight dims
sufficiently and is usable night vision goggles. To conserve battery life, Meopta implemented timeouts.
In automatic mode, the sight will go to sleep after five minutes of inactivity, any movement after the five-minute timeout will turn on the red dot. After 14 hours of inactivity, the sight will power down. In manual mode, after one hour of no motion, the sight will power down. In either mode, once the sight has powered down, it needs to be powered-up by pressing the + button.
The MeoSight IV is powered by a top loaded CR1632 3V battery, which provides an estimated 30,000 hours of run time.
The sight offers a generous range of wind and elevation adjustment, 120 MOA each in 1 MOA clicks. Open red dot sights are notorious for poor tactile feedback, I found the MeoSight IV provides a soft but detectable click, making zeroing the sight less laborious.
MEOPTA has done anexcellent job in introducing a feature rich red dot reflex sight that’s at home on a wide array of pistols and your rail equipped long guns. All the requirements for rapid target acquisition have been met, sharp 3 MOA red dot, excellent glass clarity, large coated objective lens, two operating modes to choose from and MEOPTA quality. -SP
