RITON’S 3 TACTIX 1-8x24 LPVO
By: Sal PalmaRITON Optics, where have you been all my life? Here is a company that has as its primary goal to provide an amazing value proposition backed by outstanding customer service, have I been freeze-dried?
RITON Optics is a Tucson, AZ based optics manufacturer founded in 2013. Today, Beth Ingram, Director of Marketing, and the dedicated team is turning Riton Optics into one of the fastest growing optics manufacturers in the country. So, what’s the key to their success? Look no further than optics like the 3 TACTIX 18x24 LPVO.
The 3TACTIX 1-8x24 is a secondfocal plane(SFP) optic, which is the preferred reticle plane many competition shooters prefer. The SFP optic, maintains the same reticle size as the operator
moves through the magnification range. The SFP overcomes losing your reticle at low magnification levels.
OT, Illuminated
Reticle illumination is outstanding. RITON gives you 11 levels of illumination, so you won’t have any trouble seeing this reticle even in bright sunlight.Thereddotthatyouseeat the 5 o’clock position is an aiming laser I was zeroing to the LPVO.
The optical clarity of this modestly priced LPVO is as good as many of its higher priced competitors. Images are bright, sharp with impressive chromatic fidelity. The 30 mm tube allowed plenty of light to reach the eyepiece as well as deliver an adjustment range of 182 MOA.
Zeroing this optic was gratifying to say the least. Each ½ MOA click produced precise movement, and excellent tactile with each adjustment producing an audible click; a characteristic uncommon in even the higher priced LPVOs.
The LPVO is a set it and forget it optic The shooter relies on reticle subtensions to engage targets beyond the zero distance. For this review, I zeroed at 25 meters. At that range and the host platform’s muzzle velocity of 3,058 fps, reticle subtensions map to the ranges below. Once zeroed, both turrets are resettable. As true with most LPVOs, elevation and wind turrets are capped, and parallax is fixed at 100 yds.
If you’re just getting into 3-gun matches you couldn’t find a better optic than Riton’s 3 TACTIX 1-8x24. Target acquisition and engagement is extremely fast with excellent accuracy.
The 3 TACTIX 1-8x24 along with its mounting hardware is a bit on the heavy side coming in at around 27 ounces; however, that weight translates to robustness.
The magnification ring is tight and solid but moving through its magnification range is facilitated by the included throw lever.
I can’t say enough good things about the 3 TACTIX 1-8x24, it’s truly an outstanding optic at a very attractive price. Forunder $500 retail, you get an optic that’s built like a tank and performs brilliantly in all aspects: optical, tracking and build quality are exceptional. I consider myself fortunate to gain this exposure to a great American company and their outstanding products. -SP
