STREAMLIGHT’S STALK
SIDEWINDER
By: Sal Palma
In 2022 Streamlight introduced the Sidewinder Stalk, joining a family of distinguished hands-free military lights.
Streamlight’s design objective was to produce a helmet, or MOLLE, mounted task/navigation light that consolidates what would normally

require several light sources and beacons into one compact package. To accomplish its goal, Streamlight designers included white, IR, red, blue and green LEDs mounted to the head of its flexible stalk; all selectable via a rotary switch.
The Sidewinder Stalk is simple to use. To change colors simply rotate the selector switch to the “C” position then tap the activation pushbutton 5 times in rapid sequence holding on the 5th. Once you’ve selected the desired color, your selection remains in memory until it’s changed again. In addition to a selection of colors, the light offers three brightness setting: low, medium and high; you can move through each level by simply pressing and holding the pushbutton. Two rapid presses activate the strobe mode. The Sidewinder Stalk can be helmet mounted

The Sidewinder Stalk has a several features to get excited about, but its mounting options is at the top of my list.

Helmet Mount
The flexible stalk allows the user to easily direct the light source for map reading or for any hands-on task. It’s also an ideal accessory for helicopter pilots or anyone operating an aircraft at night under VFR rules. The light also features a non-programmable IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) beacon that operates at 50 beats per minute. The IFF beacon is locked out requiring operation of the 3 position IFF lockout switch at the back of the light.
Hook and loop adapter plate The second feature I found exciting is the dual fuel power option, I can’t begin to count how many times I’ve found myself out of CR123A batteries, so being able to drop in an alkaline AA to power the light is a big plus. The Streamlight Sidewinder Stalk is yet another example of Streamlight’s competitive advantage. The company consistently produces well designed, durable and cost-effective products.
