STREAMLIGHT’S TLR RM2 LASER-R
2021
In 2021, Streamlight continues that focus introducing the TLR RM2 LASER-R.
By: Sal Palma Like all of the TLR lights, the RM2 LASER produces a very well collimated beam with an abundance of peripheral light, and at 1000 lumens every corner and interstices is thoroughly illuminated.
Streamlight is one of those great American companies operating without a lot of hoopla but has been steadily and successfully penetrating the global weapon mounted tactical lighting space. The key to their success is design, performance, customer service and an unbeatable value proposition. I’ve yet to visit an organization here in the U.S. or the EU where I did not observe a TLR weapon mounted light hanging on a Glock, FN, SIG or Beretta and that’s a fact. The TLR line of lights has undergone continuous development; with each addition seeing enhanced performance, ergonomics and size reduction. The most significant improvements made their grand entrance with the TLR-7 / TLR8 lights; it was a transition from a bulky package to an ergonomic, streamlined and even elegant form factor.
First introduced in the TLR-7 series of lights, the RM2 has a safe off feature. Rotating the bezel counterclockwise until you feel a detent defeats the activation switch. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve had to replace batteries because my lights were accidentally actuated in a gear bag. Streamlight continues the TLR line with a compact form factor.
The RM2 sits close to the Picatinny rail; in fact, you can even use it as a hand-stop on your favorite SBR or pistol platform. It rests comfortably in your support hand. The all too familiar activation paddles are gone and in their place Streamlight gives you two activation strategies on the RM2.

Like the TLR-8 family, the RM2’s laser is adjustable for wind and elevation using the provided hex wrench.
You can actuate the light via its pushbutton and/or the remote pressure switch. The designers had their thinking caps on when they implemented a 90° exit from the remote switch jack. I opted out of the remote pressure switch because I really like its push button. The RM2 body makes a great hand-stop so using the switch is a natural. The older TLR light / laser lights used a small toggle switch directly below the activation paddles to select between light only, light-laser and laser only this too is gone in the RM2
The TLR line of lights will hold zero under recoil or impact; the same holds true for the RM2 LASER-R. Streamlight has one of the best Picatinny mounts on the market and that remains true for the RM2. It mounts closely and securely to the rail. The light is powered by two CR123A batteries that drive the 1000 lumen white LED for 1.5 hours. If I could put a bug in Streamlight’s ear, I’d ask for a selector switch on the opposite side of the body that allows high, medium and low light output selection.
Streamlight replaced the toggle selector with a very slick ergonomic and easily accessible selector located on the side of the light’s body. It operates similarly to the safety selector on your platform and lets you easily move through light only, laser/light or laser only modes.
In closing, all of the qualities that established Streamlight as a global leader and purveyor of high performance tactical lighting are evident in the TLR RM2 LASER-R. Performance, design and value continue to be the reasons to add this light to your kit. -SP
