STREAMLIGHT’s TLR RM1 and RM2 – what the well-dressed long gun or
line designed specifically for the long gun, the TLR RM1 and RM2.
SBR should be wearing in 2020
The RM1 and RM2 are functionally identical with the exception of their output, weight and footprint. The RM1, is the smaller of the two, and a 500 lumen light

There are a number of things to love about these two lights. Vertical fore grips don’t work very well for me on an SBR with a pistol length upper receiver – grip it, put your hand around it or what have you, it’s awkward. The TLR RM1 solves a couple of problems for me. Weapon mounted accessories have been evolving over the years and moving in a positive direction I’m pleased to say. The changes have been substantial and not the customary fluff stemming from a perceived need to have something new for the year. Streamlight has been one of those manufacturers driving that improvement.
First, its form factor works quite well as a hand stop; it allows your support hand to rest comfortably on the back of the light and it’s effective on keeping your support hand away from the muzzle.
It hasn’t been terribly long since weapon mounted illumination took on the look of a 54 Buick. The Surefire folks kicked off the industry; followed by Streamlight with the highly successful TLR line of weapon mounted illumination accessories. In 2020, the Company introduced two new members of the TLR
Second, in that same SBR configuration, I prefer not to have a tape switch Velcroed (using the past participle) to my hand

STREAMLIGHT’s TLR RM1 and RM2 – what the well-dressed long gun or SBR should be wearing in 2020 guard, or rail, because that real estate is at a premium. Streamlight solved that problem as well by providing a pushbutton activation switch at the back of the light. Operating the light is very fast; requiring only a slight push on the switch with your thumb. If that sounds to you like excellent ergonomics you’re correct.
My third and final point is how low profile these lights are; both sit close to the mounting rail mitigating the risk of damage from slamming into a wall or doorway.

or using the remote pressure switch. The RM1 produces a tight 500 lumen beam with a well-defined hot spot and excellent peripheral lighting. The RM1 also features a user activated strobe, and runs on a single CR123A battery that delivers 1.5 hours of run time and 3 hours on strobe. The RM2 produces a well-defined 1000 lumen beam that will illuminate the darkest crevices beyond 100 meters. The light runs on (2) CR123A batteries that power the light for 1.5 hours and 3 hours in strobe. As with all of the new TLR offerings, The RM1 and RM2 come with the safe off feature, which prevents accidental activation. Simply rotate the bezel counterclockwise to lockout the light and clockwise to operate; a great feature that will save your batteries.
Both TLR RM1 and RM2, accept a tape switch plug in the back of the light body, and below a guard. This is a nice touch that will keep your tape switch plug at a 90° angle to the rail making cable routing much easier. It also helps from accidentally unplugging your cable.
Both lights are extremely robust and feature anodized aluminum bodies O-ring seal to meet IPX7 water resistance (1 meter for 30 min).
Other than output, size and weight, the RM1 and RM2 are operationally identical. It can be activated with the push of a button

On ergonomics alone the TLR RM1 and TLR RM2 lights are a worthwhile addition to your kit. When you consider other factors like value, robustness, size, weight, performance and ease of operation, these lights by Streamlight represent a movement of the long gun rail mounted light into the 21st century.
