t’s been almost two years and the father of murdered Connor Isaacs (14) still cannot get closure as to his son’s death. “I don’t have answers as to who committed the crime,” says Keith Eybers. “It would never bring my child back, but some kind of justice would bring me peace of mind.” Eybers and his ex-wife, Bridgette Williams, have faced an uphill battle trying to get an arrest after their son’s death. But despite hiring a private investigator, spending hours at the police station and pleading for answers in the media, nobody has been arrested and the matter remains unresolved. “I’m starting to lose hope in the criminal justice system,” Eybers says.
Isaacs was staying with his father in Glenhaven at the time of his death on 27 March. It was the holidays and the Grade 9 pupil was at home while his father went to work. Like many other of his age, he liked playing Xbox games. At the time he was at school in Pinelands and his recent move to Glenhaven was only meant to be a temporary one. Eybers called him at around 09:00 or 10:00 to check up on him, but didn’t receive any answer. He called a few times after with no success, but chalked it up to a teenage phase of possibly wanting to be left alone. When Eybers arrived home from work at 18:30 he discovered his son’s lifeless body. He had been strangled. It’s still unclear why. The house stood empty until the father and son moved in shortly before. A group was possibly unaware Connor was in the house when they

tried to burgle it. A cellphone has since been recovered, but other items like cameras, an Xbox and other cellphones are still missing. Eybers says he received a report from the police at the end of 2020 identifying certain suspects, among them one who has since died. But despite this, no-one has been arrested. They still haven’t received forensic reports either. All they can cling to now are the good memories of their son, the son who loved dinosaurs and wanted to become a paleontologist. “He liked to joke around,” Eybers remembers fondly. “He was a very good-natured child.
