larke Estate resident and passionate soccer player, Euwin Stevens, says he is enjoying the tranquillity and the change of scenery in the United States of America (USA). The 22-year-old was accepted to study business management while playing soccer at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain. He jetted off on Tuesday 30 July to kick off his twoyear scholarship. Stevens chatted to TygerBurger last week to share what life is like “on the other side”. “I’m in Mena, Arkansas. The change of scenery is really different but in a nice way. It’s tranquil here and the area is really quiet compared to what I’m used to. I’m able to enjoy the small things like taking a walk to the store at 19:00. “It’s a really nice mountainous area and the people here are amazing,” he says. “I’m living at a campus residence with three other South Africans (who are from Durban) in an apartment so we’re looking out for one another on campus.” Stevens only starts classes on 19 August. “The university is really nice and everyone is eager to make settling in easy for us and that helps a lot. Tell us what wonderful deeds they’ve done for their community.

Nominations close on Tuesday 27 August Elders making a difference can once again be nominated in one of two categories: “70-80 years” or “80 plus”. Six finalists will be selected and notified by Tuesday 3 September. The winners in both categories, as well as the People’s Choice winner, will be announced at a morning tea in Cape Town on Saturday 12 October.
