‘Nippers’ ‘Nippers’ in full swing
The junior class of the Milnerton Lifesaving Club, the Nippers, started their training recently. With no competitions on the horizon, the club has time to train more lifeguards. uperheroes in Bloubergstrand bravely wearing the “L” on their chest were applauded after saving a woman from drowning over the weekend. The Big Bay Lifeguards responded to a drowning in front of Pakalolo in Table View on Sunday, saving a 24-year-old woman reported to be in trouble and drifting out to sea. According to the Big Bay Lifesaving Club, first responders Dylan Lloyd entered the water followed by Kyle Reynolds, Logan Smithers, Wesley Oakes, Luke Batty and Damien Kennedy.
“The young lady was located and returned safely to shore where she received medical attention and was taken off to hospital. Big Bay Lifesaving Club is so proud of these young men and commend them in their amazing response time. Another drowning prevented by our lifeguards,” they said on social media. Volunteers at the Table View Neighbourhood Watch (TVNW) also assisted and responded to the scene. Laura Outhet, TVNW media liaison, says one of the volunteers received a phonecall from a family member about a young woman who was experiencing some difficulties in the water at Bloubergstrand.
