Assistive Technology Practitioner The Newsletter of the Healthcare and Assistive Technology Society
Society grows from strength to strength
Your Society Welcome to the latest issue of Assistive Technology Practitioner, exclusively for members of the Healthcare and Assistive Technology Society. The Society is growing fast, with almost 600 members so far! We’ve now got our Advisory Board in place, which includes senior representatives from, among others, the British Association of Occupational Therapists, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and the Posture and Mobility Group – there are more details about the Advisory Board and its first meeting in the “Society grows from strength to strength” article opposite.
As part of raising our profile in the industry we had a stand at Naidex this year, where it was great to catch up with lots of our members. If you were at the show, you may have caught Accreditation and Professional Development Manager Philip Woodward’s presentation about the Society in the Trade Theatre, alongside Council member Richard Handley. The Healthcare and Assistive Technology Society is delighted to welcome its new Advisory Board: Baroness Glenys Thornton: Chair Society Patron Darren Awang: Coventry University Clare Canale: The Posture and Mobility Group Prof. Duncan Eaton: All Party Parliamentary Health Group Dr. Sally Gosling: The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists Ray Hodgkinson: British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) Ian McCreath: The Alzheimer’s Society Julia Scott: The British Association of Occupational Therapists Alison Somek: Somek and Associates
Naidex was also a great opportunity to talk to end users and health professionals, explaining how the Society can support them and give them more confidence in buying and using assistive technology. Occupational Therapists in particular were enthusiastic about the idea and immediately understood how it could help them and their clients.
