One recent commission was a forward thinking take on a country manor. Armed with the architect’s approved scheme The Design Practice by Uber were able to set to work to extend the property through what’s known as Permitted Development Rights to offer the client not least a house of grand proportions but also an incredible lifestyle through utilising their vision for the end game – the real use, flow and finishes of every square inch. “This has to be a careful and very considered approach to space planning due to the added complexity of having to build in two stages. Firstly the existing approved scheme and then effectively a bolt on extension. With that in mind, we have to strategically position openings in stage one’s process to later use as means of access into our extension. It’s a fantastic result when you see just what can be created.”

SENSORY INTERNATIONAL It was not so long ago that people controlled TV’s and VHS players using remotes on the end of a cable strewn across the living room floor from the corner of the room.

Kevin’s background has humble beginnings. He started work at the age of 15, working in a small hotel where he became captivated by the world of food. He went on to work in France, where he further trained in the renowned three-Michelinstarred restaurant, Le Moulin de Mougins, under the guidance of Roger Verge, and also the threeMichelin-starred Bonne Auberge in Antibes. His passion for travel grew and he then went on to work in Canada, where he later owned two restaurants, achieving many awards and accolades; many of these focused on his love for organic food produce.

More than most restaurants, what you can expect to eat is entirely driven by what providence decides to put in René Redzepi’s way. Past diners have marvelled at his Nordic Coconut, a fragrant broth presented in a hollowed out Kohlrabi, resting on a burlap fabric cloth. Because although you doubtless know and love everything Lamborghini stands for, and because the small barrier of 3.3 million euros is but a trifling detail, the fact is – and let us break this to you gently – just three of Lamborghini’s Veneno Coupé supercars will be built in 2014. So the chances are, your hopes of becoming an owner have already been cruelly dashed. But for the record, the Veneno continues where its founding inspiration, the Aventador, leaves off. No awkward-second-album syndrome here: whilst the Richter scale still reels from the seismic impact made by the Aventador, the Veneno now demands a new set of superlatives. The Veneno brings 50 more horses to the stable, creating a missile of a car. With its maximum output of 750 hp, it accelerates almost more quickly than your senses can register. The 0 to 100 km/h trip is despatched in just 2.8 seconds, on your way to a top speed where legal of 221mph. Instrumental in this blistering performance is a twelve-cylinder engine; a lightning-shift ISR transmission with five modes; permanent all-wheel drive and a racing chassis with pushrod suspension and horizontal spring/damper units. And reassuringly for your three million, the Veneno is not just a creation for test tracks and private airfields. It is a fully road-legal car. As designers, we respect above all how form follows function, and since the function of this car is performance, its form radiates a brutal beauty. Its front is all business: expansive lower air dams, an angular lip spoiler, and headlights that extend well into the middle of the front fenders. Its profile is equally purposeful, dominated by pronounced engine air scoops and mighty wheels (20” front, 21” rear) which, ingeniously, contain carbon fibre rings which function like a turbine to help cool the carbon ceramic brakes. At the rear, a dramatic fin runs along the engine cover and meets an imposing carbonfibre spoiler. Every inch, in serving a logical purpose, also provides a feast for the eyes. This car exudes excitement.

Like a racing prototype, it responds to the same demands: of honing airflow and aerodynamics; of optimising downforce with minimal drag; and of cooling the mighty power train within. The front end therefore serves as a large aerodynamic wing. The visual division of the rear fenders from the car body comes straight from the track, perfecting the aerodynamic flow.
