CRAIG AND ROSALYN THOMAS GRAND MARSHALS FOR THE DUCHESNE COUNTY FAIR 2016

Craig and Rosalyn Thomas, parents of six children, 26 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, have called Tabiona home their entire lives. A full time rancher, Craig runs approximately 100 head of mother cows and 100 yearling steers. Both Craig and Rosalyn love good horses, fine friends, and a family who helps them with the cattle and the farm. They’ve enjoyed working hard on the ranch over the years and are grateful for the help and support they’ve received from family. Craig’s been involved with many district and county water committees and the county Farm Service Agency, as well as with 4-H programs and other boards and activities over the years. His latest recognition was representing Duchesne County at the Ogden Pioneer Days for the 2015 National Day of the American Cowboy. His other honors include receiving Duchesne County’s Cattleman and Farmer of the Year awards, as well as the Golden Shovel award from the Uintah Basin Water Summit. Rosalyn balances her time helping on the ranch with cooking for every occasion, and enjoys being with her grandchildren. In the 1970s, Rosalyn started the Little Buckaroo Riding Club, as well as helping with the Little Buckaroo Rodeo in Tabiona. She enjoyed this for many years. They love being part of the Basin, especially Duchesne County, where they always attend the annual County Fair. They call themselves fortunate to have many friends throughout the Basin. They feel very honored to serve as the Grand Marshalls for the 2016 Duchesne County Fair.

GENE AND BONNIE OSTLER GRAND MARSHALS FOR THE DUCHESNE COUNTY FAIR 2016

Gene and Bonnie Ostler have been lifelong residents of Duchesne County. Gene was raised in Roosevelt and Bonnie was raised in Hanna. They have been married for 33 years and raised five children. They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Gene and Bonnie started their cattle ranch in 1983. Their love of cattle ranching and hard work has helped them develop their style of commercial cattle. Some of their show steers have been awarded Reserve and Grand Champion in the Duchesne County Fair. Gene has been a member the Duchesne County Fair livestock committee for over 25 years and has also served as its President. He was chosen as “Duchesne County Cattleman of the Year” in 2006, and in 2007 he represented Duchesne County as the “Cowboy of the Year.” Gene served two terms as Vice President for the Utah Cattleman’s Association and in 2013 was chosen to be honored as the “Utah Cattleman of the Year.” The Ostlers have sponsored the Grand Master Showmanship award for Duchesne County for many years by donating a custom embroidered jacket. Gene and Bonnie participate each year at the Utah State Fair Beef Feast where Gene can be found grilling steak sandwiches for over 1,500 people. He is presently serving as the Chairman of the Utah State Brand Board. In addition to being a successful cattleman, Gene has been a realtor in Roosevelt since 1982, receiving many awards throughout his career. He was just recognized with the “Lifetime Achievement Award.” They have also owned and operated many businesses in the Uintah Basin; including the Ells Motel; Gifts, Gags, and Gimmicks; and the Wells Club, where people would travel great distances to have one of Bonnie’s famous steaks. She continues to sell her “secret” steak seasoning to this day. Bonnie has been active in the Duchesne County Chamber of Commerce on the Beautification Committee. She worked many years at World of Beauty and retired from the Tri-County Health Department. Amongst all their achievements, Gene and Bonnie consider their greatest passions in life to be their farm and their family. One of their favorite traditions is to have all their family come home to attend the Duchesne County Fair and Parade. The Ostlers have a great love for Duchesne County and all that it offers. They love the opportunities for hiking, hunting, camping, and the reservoirs for fishing. Gene and Bonnie are proud to call Duchesne County home; their door is always open to their family and friends.

Just because you fail once, it doesn’t mean you’re going to fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always BELIEVE in YOURSELF because if you don’t, then who will? So keep your head high, keep your CHIN UP and most importantly KEEP SMILING because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about. Marilyn Monroe Given this opportunity to explore and expand my platform “Forget Skinny, Get Healthy”, I have found that my platform is my passion in life. I truly believe that every person has their own inner beauty. We are each an individual with our own beautiful characteristics. Remember, you don’t have to be a size 2 to be beautiful. Take care of your mind, body, and soul. As I take a step back to look at my year reigning as your centennial Miss Duchesne County, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, joy, and blessings. This past year has been such an amazing experience for me. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know people in our community and surrounding areas. With my reign, I have come to realize just how special our Duchesne County is. There are so many great people and businesses here that are willing to give of themselves and support those that are less fortunate even during the economic downfall. I cannot thank you enough for keeping me going with the coffee, sugar, oil changes, and friendly smiles; and I can’t forget all of the sponsors. The people that are involved in the Miss America program have been nothing less than amazing. The opportunities that they gave me to be involved in meaningful service projects, and to meet so many special people, will forever stay with me. My experiences in preparing for Miss Utah has helped me learn so much about myself and gain a greater understanding of our community and state. Although I wasn’t able to compete, I have gained so much personal development and growth from representing our county through all the county events and my preparation for Miss Utah. I am so thankful for the Miss America Program; it has changed my life. I am very blessed to have been the face for Duchesne County this last year and share our County with the rest of the State. I would like to thank several people who have helped me so much along the way as well, from step one to the finish. My director Nancy Moon, Nikki Kielbasa and Valarie McKee. Where would I have been without you!? You are all my inspiration and I love you. Thank you for believing in me so much that my only choice was to believe in myself. This journey would never have been as spectacular if I didn’t have you three and Cali. I seriously love you so much! I also couldn’t have done it without my two best friends who kept me looking fabulous! Chellie and Nicole, thank you for the late night salon trips. My hair, nails, and toes were always representable thanks to you. None the less, you have supported me the whole way! A big thank you to all those at Katz Salon for stepping in when I needed it most! Mom, you are my biggest supporter. I would have never been able to do this without you. I have so much love, gratitude, and respect towards you. You are the strongest and most beautiful woman I know. No words can describe how much I love you. To all my sponsors, friends, family and sweet angel above; Thank you for investing in me. To all those photographers who made me look stunning, so many thanks to you all also. To the man upstairs, thank you for putting this journey in my books. We invite all who are interested in exhibiting their Rabbits and/or Poultry at the Duchesne County Fair to come on out and participate! Animal Entry: Wednesday, August 10, 2016, from 9:00 am - 12 :00 pm No early entries, and no late entries. No reserving of cages. Judging Rabbits: Wednesday, August 10, at 1:00 pm Judging Poultry: Friday, August 12, at 2:00 pm For judging purposes, please provide age and breed of animal. Limit of 2 rabbits and 2 poultry per youth (ages 2-18) if showing in front of the judges. Premium money will only be awarded to those who show their animals. Animal pick-up: Friday, August 12, at 4:00 pm If you do not pick up your animals by 5:00 pm, they will be left unattended. We will no longer be responsible for them. Branch and Dean hale from North Florida and are most at home making country music. Dean Scallan and Steve Branch met and quickly realized that their mutual love of country music, performing, and song writing made them a powerful duo. They moved to Nashville, set out to make great music, and soon caught the attention of Michael Huffman (aka Huff Daddy). Huff Daddy – who has worked with greats like Kenny Chesney, Conway Twitty, George Strait, Montgomery Gentry, and Diamond Rio – took Branch and Dean under his wing. Together they began writing and recording great hits like The Dash, Your Ol’ Ladies Gone and The Forgetter.

Duchesne County Fair 5K Fun Run/Walk Saturday, August 13, 2016 CARD RUN Each participant will receive a face card after each completed loop. At the end of the race, each runner can choose to keep the cards in their hand, or keep some cards and ask for more cards. The person closest to 21 without going over is the winner. There will be different categories for the prizes in the card game, as well as the race. Those under 18 years old will need adult consent to participate.
