Operating from a place of integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way. Moon Lake Electric Association Inc. (MLEA) continues to put their members first through providing responsive, reliable, and resourceful power to “YOU” our members . The MLEA employees strive to live out the value of integrity in big and small ways every day. One key way is that they look out for our members, including when they are at financial risk. It’s unfortunate, but scare-tactic scams and untrustworthy offers are a common occurrence in today’s world. MLEA employees work hard to benefit its members by seeking protective measures to ensure fair business practices and by providing radio ads and social media posts that educate and protect our members from scams. “We must adjust to changing times and still hold to unchanging principles.” Jimmy Carter “Moral authority comes from following universal and timeless principles like honesty, integrity, treating people with respect.” Stephen Covey

CEO/General Manager Grant Earl The mission of MLEA is to meet or exceed our customer/member expectations for reliable and efficient electrical service in a socially responsible manner.

never been more preeminent than it was in 2020. I would like to thank the employees of MLEA as they responded to the challenge and continued to fulfill our mission.

During 2020, our mission was challenged by a global pandemic that, at the onset, created uncertainty and fear with many people sheltering in place and working from home. Many families were also tasked with the job of home schooling their children. The need for affordable and reliable power has

On March 24 th and 25 th, we held District nominating meetings for District 2 (Duchesne) where incumbent Paul Tanner termed out and Ken Moon was nominated. On March 25 th for District 3 (Neola) incumbent Josh Hunter was nominated. No petitions were received. We would like to thank

Paul Tanner for his 12 years of service and commitment to the MLEA board. We know this has been a trying year for everyone – not just professionally, but also personally. On behalf of the MLEA Board of Directors and employees, we thank you for your patience and support as we all navigate the complexities of these challenges.

Board President Gregory Miles Since every member of MLEA is an owner, you participate in making business decisions through your election of the 7 Directors who govern your co-op. Your Board of Directors are interested in the performance of the cooperative, concerned with how it can better serve the members’ needs, and what general changes may be necessary in

organizational, financial and operating policies.

Your board keeps informed on topics that will affect rural electrification and its members, and periodically visit state legislators and community leaders to share electric cooperative viewpoints. When you receive electric service from MLEA, you are more than a customer. You

are a member, and this organization belongs to you and over 12,000 of your constituents. In conclusion, during the March 10, 2021 board meeting, the board of directors approved payment of $2.5 million in capital credits to our members. A total of just over $40 million of capital credits has been returned to our members since 1977.

Secretary/Treasurer Report Paul Tanner Financial integrity is the most critical responsibility of the Moon Lake Electric Board of Directors. Oversight of the cooperative’s finances in true alignment with the cooperative’s financial plan is core to achieving financial integrity. Through process

the budgeting and various

policies and procedures, the board ensures effective cost controls are in place to make certain your funds are properly utilized and accounted for. We are committed to providing reliable energy at a reasonable cost to today’s members, and ensuring that a wellmaintained and financially stable organization exists

to serve your needs in the future. Moon Lake Electric’s 2020 financial records are audited by the certified public accounting firm of Aycock Miles & Associates. A summary of the financial report can be found on page 3-4.

System Reliability In 2020…MLEA had a 98% System Reliability

While MLEA would prefer that our members have electricity 100 percent of the time, outages are unfortunately something that all utilities experience at some point in time. We analyze our outage data each month in an effort to improve any areas we

can by maintaining and upgrading equipment; however, there are some outages that are completely beyond our control. In these instances, our crews work diligently to safely restore power as quickly as possible. In today’s world, so many aspects

of our lives depend on electricity, which makes system reliability crucial to our members. We recognize that even the smallest of outages can have an impact on daily activities for all members.
