Creative Writers’ Group  PLUC - Tuesday, September 4 – 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Take your writing to the next level by joining our Creative Writing Group. Sue A. Fairchild, book editor and published writer, oversees reading, discussion and critiques of group members’ work. Limited to 8 participants. ID Theft and Cyber Security  PLUC - Thursday, September 6 – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Understanding identity theft and cyber-security can be a challenge even for the most computer literate. Katrina F. Boyer, PA Department of Banking and Securities Outreach Liaison, reviews how identities are stolen and what to do if you become a victim. She also discusses how to use the Internet safely, creating “strong passwords,” and keeping devices in tip-top condition to protect your financial and personal information. Light refreshments are provided. Beginner Crochet  WEL - Saturday, September 8 – 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm Learn to crochet! Bring your own size 7, 8, or 9 crochet hook. We have a good supply of yarn available at the library. If you want to bring your own yarn, please make sure it is 4-ply knitting worsted in a solid color. West End Readers  WEL - Monday, September 10 – 6:30 pm – 7:45 pm The book group is discussing Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Join us for a lively discussion of the book with other book lovers! His tour features e-Services, the programming calendar with online registrations, and the library catalog. STEAM Night at Civil War Cider  PLUC - Wednesday, September 19 • 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Leave the kids at home! We will be bringing highlights of our STEAM collection to the Civil War Cider including DASH the robot and our Sphero. Enjoy an adult beverage and company while you check out the toys!

Library Book Group  PLUC - Thursday, September 20 - 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm The book group is discussing Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance. Please ask for a copy of the book at the library circulation desk! All are welcome to discuss great literature at the library. Conversational Spanish  PLUC - Monday, September 24 • 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Linda Kander, Spanish teacher, provides an informal class to learn Spanish or to brush up your skills.

Master Gardener: Spotted Lanternfly  PLUC - Tuesday, September 25 – 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm Learn about the Spotted Lanternfly, an invasive planthopper, who has been discovered in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is native to China, India, Vietnam, and introduced to Korea where it has become a major pest. This insect has the potential to greatly impact the grape, hops and logging industries. Early detection is vital for the protection of Pennsylvania businesses and agriculture.

Union County Library System and WVIA staff are on hand at each event for library card sign up and giveaways. The Great American Read is an eight-part series that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the lens of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey).

Play With Me Parent/Child Workshop  12-40 Months 5 Week Program Offered Wednesdays & Saturdays PLUC - Program Dates: Sept. 5, Sept. 8, Sept. 12, Sept. 15, Sept. 19, Sept. 22, Sept. 26, Sept. 29, Oct. 3 and Oct. 6 • 10:00 am - 11:00 am A Parent/Child program for children ages 12 to 40 months and their parents/caregivers. In addition to an uninterrupted hour of play, a resource professional from the community is present to talk with parents/caregivers about specific topics, which include literacy, nutrition, speech and language, music and movement, and child development. Lego Night  All Ages PLUC - Thursday, September 13 • 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm Meets the 2nd Thursday of each month Get creative and build anything you want with LOTS of Legos. Activities, worksheets, crafts, songs and more for pre-k up to kids in grades 4-6. Free with your library card!

The Underground Toy Society  Ages 2-10 WEL - Saturday, September 15 • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Children’s book author, Jessica D. Adams visits the library for a puppet show by her two daughters, who are illustrators for the books, with a book reading, followed by a craft. Beginning ASL  Ages 5-12 Years Old PLUC - Starting Thursday, September 20 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm Meets every 3rd Thursday through December Come learn and practice basic beginner ASL (American Sign Language). This class builds on the previous week’s instruction, so regular attendance is encouraged. Crazy 8s Math Club  Grades 3rd - 5th PLUC - Thursday, September 27 • 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm Meets every 4th Thursday through December Crazy 8s is a collection of math activities that gets kids to think of math as play.

Game On for Teens  Grades 6-12 HML - Thursdays, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Get your game on at the library! Play board games and video games provided by the library. Teens are invited to bring in games they want to share. Food and refreshments are provided. Dungeons & Dragons Role Playing Game  Grades 6-12 PLUC - Playing Sessions: Saturday, September 1, 15, & 29 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm Roll the D20 as you assume a fantasy-based identity and go on a role-playing adventure with other local D & D players. Players ages 12+ to adult of all levels, beginner to advanced, welcome. Dungeons & Dragons Role Playing Game  Grades 6-12 PLUC - Game Workshops: Saturday, September 8 & 22 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm Workshops cover different role playing game topics-tips and tricks, how to DM, generate your own monsters, create a small dungeon, and develop new characters to run through and level up during game play. This is not a regular D & D game playing session.

Wreck This Journal  Grades 6-12 HML - Monday, September 24 - 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm Each page has a different instruction like take a bite out of the page, write the same word over and over, leave this page somewhere public, sew this page, etc. Make a unique journal, wreck the journal, repeat!
