Tech at Reference Desk
Jeff Seebold, Technology Training Services Coordinator, has relocated to the Reference desk to offer tech assistance to our users. Jeff’s new workspace was made possible through the generous donations of family and friends in memory of Dick Steffensen, a dedicated volunteer and furniture designer for Pennsylvania House and Brodart, who passed away this summer. Jeff continues to offer one-on-one tech tutoring. To schedule an appoinment with Jeff call 570-523-1172.
Graphic Novel Collection Expanded
Dive into some classic reads like King Lear and Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens which enhance the selection of graphic novels. These additions were made possible with grant support from the G. Scott and Bessie K. Guyer Foundation. Graphic novels are fun and engaging and are great for readers who are looking to pair difficult texts with a visual component.
A note from the president...
“Grab and go!” This phrase best describes my use of the library before I retired at the end of last year. I would make a quick trip in on my way home from work to pick up some books on CD to enjoy while commuting or exercising, an occasional hardback or paperback when traveling, or choose books and DVDs when the grandchildren visited.
As my daily routine has become more flexible, I find myself arriving at the library at various times of day and have observed how others in the community are benefitting from this incredible community resource. I have encountered parents and preschoolers and therapy dogs on Tuesday mornings as Discover story time lets out and they all head to the children’s area to play with the puppets, select books or DVDs to take home, do some cooking or shopping in the Family Place space, or spend time socializing with each other. There is lots of energy and excitement! After returning from a visit to the Wednesday Farmer’s Market, I have found children, parents, and grandparents creating pet toys or using a 3D pen at the makerspace table, two older gentlemen engaged in a game of chess, and folks pausing in the gallery to take in the latest art exhibit!
There are always readers perusing a local newspaper or magazine, people with laptops doing work or research away from distractions, or improving their tech skills during a tutoring session. It is evident that every day the library impacts every aspect of the community by providing a wide array of dynamic services and programs. The library provides experiences for all the chapters of our lives! And by the way, many of us have spent our working lives waiting for retirement so we have more time for giving back to the community. There’s plenty to help out with at the library as a volunteer. It’s a fine way to add value and have an affiliation with an important community organization. Call us or come in and we can discuss how you might become more involved.
