For beginners and those deep in “TMI” (too much information), this course will cover pre-research stages and provide an overview of organizing, software and digital resources, research strategies and methodology.

E207 GENEALOGY: PRE-IMMIGRATION RESEARCH OLLI program: Kent/Sussex Course location: Wyoming Church, Dover Thursday 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Dates of class: 2/10/2022 – 4/28/2022 • Class limit: 18 Instructor: John Roberts Number of class sessions: 11 • Price for course: $50 Course format: Discussion, Lecture We will use Ancestry, FamilySearch and FindMyPast and learn how to collect information required to research foreign resources and then examine how to access resources in several countries including England, Ireland, Germany, Italy and others depending on the class interests. Students with all levels of experience can benefit from this class.

The goal of the course is not only to conduct traditional genealogy research, but to add depth and context to your research. Adding pictures, historical context as well as other research will help broaden the scope of your ancestral story. This course is best suited for researchers who have a basic knowledge of genealogy research, however, beginning students may also find it helpful.
