The homecoming football game, and varsity football The sticky humidity of the fall air. The distinct cheers screamed from the top of cold bleachers toward the open field. The varsity football games could only be described with one word; ‘wild’. “Going to the football games is definitely the best part of the beginning of the school year,” senior Julian Kelson said. With more students in the stands than any other game, the tension at the homecoming game was extreme. The scores went continually back and forth from being in the lead to falling behind. When university high school achieved the win, the celebration was the loudest of the whole season. “There was so much screaming; it was the best because we fought for and won the homecoming game,” sophomore Tyler Miller said. The change from the beginning to the end of the game was extensive. Three touchdowns were made during the first half of the game by the opposing team, only to be made up for in later plays by University. “The change was definitely crazy, in the beginning I didn’t think we were going to win at all,” junior Jennifer Zulian said.

There was a certain sense of accomplishment when the team makes a win. Everyone rushed out of the stands, whooping and yelling. A sense of pride swept the field. “When we win it’s like a rush of adrenaline that doesn’t wear off until you’re in bed that night,” sophomore John Stamos said. On the field and off, the team was constantly changing. Team members ebbed and flowed with constantly changing plays and practices. All of which were in place to better the team, and essentially get University more wins than the year before. “It’s really hard work being on the team but it’s worth it when you get that win,” junior Stephan Julo said. In a year surpassing all other years, University high school made it all the way to states, and placed fifth overall. This change was an amazing achievement for University and paved the way for the years proceeding it. “It’s crazy that we’re making it to states; it’s such a big opportunity,” senior Brad Pitt said.
