With these hands, we built this school from the ground up. From a disqualifying football season that we never thought we would bounce back from to winning a state championship. From homemade traditions like senior step up days and iconic dress up days. From having one of the largest most diverse student body in Volusia county, we came together and created a name for ourselves with these hands.
After the Fall
Senior Juan Pablo has big plans after Football season is over to try out for new sports. “Im so excited to try new sports because football is all ive known my whole life,” Pablo said.
After spending the season working hard to make it on the varsity team, sophmore Tom Brady plans to rest. “I worked so hard all season im ready to relax,” Brady said.
Focusing of academics junior Randy Smith is now enrolled in 5 AP classes. “I love football but academics is a big part of my life,” Smith said.
Friday Night Lights
As the team huddles together with prayers and hopeful words for one last time before kickoff, the crowd goes wild cheering for their side. Moments like these are what makes these students more than just a team, but a family. Under the bright lights of the football field the sound of the fans disappear and the only thing on anyone’s mind is winning this game to send our boys to playoffs and forever change the future of University High School. In the flash of an eye that goal seemed so small after starting quarterback John Smith is injured in the second quarter of the game. After Smith is taken away by an ambulance the game must continue. The second string quarterback, sophomore Luke Brown struggles throughout the game and the team finishes at a loss with an ending score of 21-7. “I wasn’t prepared, I was shocked after seeming my teammate get injured and then threw in to the game with a foggy mind,” Brown said. But after receiving news that Smith would not be returning for the season Brown knew what he had to do. “It is my job to carry the team and get better so we can still make our dreams of playoffs.” The team took a while to get back on its feet, after three losses from Hagerty 27-21, Deland 42-7, and Sea Breeze 14-7 the goal of play offs seemed so far away. The school and team looked to the coach Todd Kardashian to try to save this team. “Coming off of three losses, I knew something had to change and it wouldn’t be easy.” Kardashian said. “I have the honor of coaching a great team with boys I know will work hard enough to recover our season and reach our goals.” Due to all of the hard work put in from Coach Todd and the team, the rest of the season continued undefeated. The team made it to the goal of playoffs and the entire town was jumping with excitement and pride. The team proved that it can overcome any obstacle when they set their mind to it and this is true for the entire student body at University High School. fgliuehlajdhglaieurhgliwufglaiwudhfglahdlfijahdlvjashdlfiuhr awldfgh;iUDHF;ieuwchksDJHCNBW;kdjfhg;oEUFYqo;eufhcnh;adkjhflkajHDBCFN
