Going in the right direction can mean different things depending on who you are asking. Whether it be preparing for freshman year at college or placing first in your track meet. Each one of us has a goal that we want to reach in the future. But not everyone can do it on their own.

Together we work together to make our community, our home a good place to live in. Some of us help by volunteering in the nursing home or picking up trash in the nearby parks. In the end the little pieces that each of us did solemnly come together to form a bigger picture that most can’t see, that is teamwork. Reaching a goal isn’t the finish line, it’s only the beginning to our next venture or goal that we set our minds on. On our own we can get started on our path, but with the right help we go in the right direction.

For the win

Strength and speed are key for football players, especially if they want to win. The team at Xavier Academy not only have both, but also the competitiveness that allows their coaches to push them to their full potential. But, there are even more factors that take place to make the athletes at Xavier Academy as good as they are. “As a team we got more done than if we practiced alone,” said running back Jerry Garcia. When the season started back in August, the team lost three games in a row. This made the teammates very upset, but they knew that there was light at the end of the tunnel. They practiced three times a week(rain or shine) in four hour increments in order to refresh on some plays and master their moves. At the end of the day they were left exhausted, sweaty and clothes covered in dirt and grass stains. “The practices were hard, but i’m glad that the coaches pushed us,” said quarterback Henry Smith. This last season the team was faced with many setbacks that made it seem as if it wouldn’t be a winning one. The motivation that the teammates forced upon themselves to work harder than they ever did allowed them to persevere over the obstacles that came their way. “This seasons been tough on them, but i’m glad they pushed through,” said Coach Davis. The season ended with the team winning all games but three. “The hard work payed off, and i’m glad to be coming back to the team next year,” said junior Mark Johnson. It comes to show that with determination and hard work individuals can work together to persevere over obstacles and achieve greatness.
