For over 5,000 years, aromatherapy has been a trusted practice among cultures spanning the globe. Natural healers turn to aromatherapy for the many antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of aromatic essential oils. So what is aromatherapy used for? Some of the most common reasons that people use it, according to research done by the PDQ Integrative, Alternative, and Complementary Therapies Board, include managing pain, improving sleep quality, reducing stress, overcoming symptoms of depression, soothing sore joints and even battling the effects of cancer.

The Power of Kindness No act of kindness, no matter how small, is a waste of time. These gestures are full of affection, appreciation, and true wisdom. They benefit the brain and connect us with others in the most complete and noble way possible.
Kindness has a very concrete space in the brain. It shares the same neural networks as empathy. While one identifies needs, the other translates this sensation into a spontaneous and profound action to promote good and offer help and happiness.
Tears began to stream down her rosy, pink cheeks. The faint voices telling her she meant nothing grew louder. The I cants’ became cuffs locked on her wrists, being unable to find the lock to escape them. The weariness in her heart and mind was agonizing. Negativity not only taking over her thoughts but life. Mental health is a wide-spread topic that is not acknowledged on the same level that physical health is. For an overall wellbeing, creating recognition that mental health is vital, is very substantial. Depression and anxiety are both wide-spread problems that are not only a problem within adults, but also teenagers, even younger children. Certain negative cognitions can produce and maintain the state of depression. There is also good evidence that depressed mood affects the relative accessibility of positive and negative cognitions. This meaning negative thinking has been proven to trigger depression, adding anxiety and any other mental health struggles. A vicious cycle can form, deepening and worsening the state of depression one is in. Mental health problems are actually, very common. According to the MentalHealth.gov service, “Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. It accounts for the loss of more than 41,000 American lives each year, more than double the number of lives lost to homicide.” James Clear, a behavioral psychologist has written an article on the intake of positive thinking. In his article he states, “Research is beginning to reveal that positive thinking is about much more than just being happy or displaying an upbeat attitude. Positive thoughts can actually create real value in your life and help you build skills that last much longer than a smile.” This topic is underestimated. Some people tend to brush it off due to how cliché it sounds. A positive psychology researcher at the University of North Carolina published a landmark paper that provides impressive insights on positive thinking and its impact on your skills. Intaking a partial quote she wrote in her paper she informed that, “The bottom-line message is that people should cultivate positive emotions in themselves and in those around them, not just as an end-states in themselves, but also as a means to achieving psychological growth and improved psychological and physical well-being over time.” Thus, informing readers on how your mind is a powerful implement. Only you are capable of choosing how you are going to live your life. Depression and negative thinking is not an unbeatable obstacle. The few reasonings listed above help cover a vast region on how it is beneficial to make positive thinking a habit. The unbearable thoughts of how she viewed herself began to change. She had sticky notes bombarding her room with nothing but uplifting quotes. The voices in her head turned into motivation to push herself to the max to be all she could. At last, she found the keys to the cuffs she once thought she’d never escape.
