Editor's Note Worldwide, winter is usually spent by the fireplace, wearing furry slippers and drinking hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. Wintertime may not be the best weather time to enjoy picnics, but in Saudi it is a different story. Editor-in-Chief @jawahertoinspire
EDITORIAL Managing Editor Jawaher Zahran Assistant Editor Faiza Arshad
Saudis get excited for the winter season. Every year, they patiently wait for it to go outdoors. I think it is the best time for a family picnic as the temperatures decreasing. People go to the seaside, escape to the desert or camp in the mountains. It's the camping season (AKA Barr season). In short, it is all about the outdoors. I personally enjoy the chilly breeze in Jeddah.

AlUla: Unveiling The Unspoken World of Wonder by Rozina
ISSUE # 29 - WINTER PICNIC Alula - The land of Natural Arches - was once a crossroad of civilizations, preserving the fragrance of ancient cultures whose history extends back thousands of years. Alula is an eloquent symbol of the extraordinary, with its historical, archaeological wonders and abundant cultural heritage. Being one of the oldest cities in the Arabian Peninsula, Alula is rich in human heritage that visitors look forward to witnessing its thousand miracles. With relics of forgotten history that whisper stories of the ancientry, we can easily immerse ourselves in an unspoken world of wonder.
‘In every Grain of sand there is a story of earth.’
Your Checklist to the Must-Visit Places Hegra
The place is distinguished by incredible sandstone and rocky formations, which reflect the beauty of the golden desert and the palm-filled oasis valleys, making it a distinctive destination for nature lovers. The rock formations themselves are unique. It is no wonder that prehistoric humans chose these amorphous rocks to be the canvas for their masterpieces. Petroglyphs with inscriptions and drawings of camels can be seen everywhere. The epicurean culture has a spell that bounded my mind. I would call it the special place I have discovered.
Getting Around Alula is situated in the northwest of Saudi Arabia in Medina province. It can be easily accessed in 30 minutes from Prince Abdul Majeed bin AbdulAziz Airport, Alula. This airport is well connected with flights from big cities like Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah. Recently International flights from Dubai and Kuwait to Alula have been launched, which will bring guests from all over the world to this wonderful hidden gem of Saudi Arabia. Arriving at the airport, you can find taxi services and car rentals.
Hegra is Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, also known as Al Hijr. There is evidence of the human presence and use of the site dating back beyond the 1st millennium BC. It was an important city of Nabataean civilization dating back over 2000 years ago. Over 110 remarkably well-preserved tombs carved out of sandstone are set in the aridest desert landscapes imaginable. These tombs - elaborately ornamented facades are the skilled work of the ancient Nabatean civilization. Don't miss the chance to book a tour on ExperienceAlUla website to hear the stories of ancient wonder. A two-hour tour takes you to ancient Hijazi railway station, then to Jabal Ithlib, Jabal Ahmar, and the show stopper, Qasr Al Farid. The iconic tomb Qasr Al Farid is the largest tomb which is 72 feet tall which is the tomb of Lihyan, son of Kuza.

The height of this rock is about 52 meters high, surrounded by hundreds of rock monoliths. This awe-inspiring spot is a free spot to experience marvelous sunset or sunrise. During evenings, you can find cafes with ensconced viewing areas to sit and enjoy the phenomenal view of wind-eroded rock mammoth.
