From the second year ' s producing podcasts to our third years kicking off production on their final year short films, this issue is full of behind the scenes sneak peaks.

We have also had the honour of interviewing Cleo Carman Howard this Issue. Cleo is the teacher of the Filmmaking modules across the course. She gives us a unique insight into her own professional development, moving to London to pursue her own career as a freelance filmmaker and offline editor. See page 5 for her top tips on entering the industry!

Here’s a sneak peak BTS filming a scene from Jordii Capelli's final year short film. The film is being made for the optional 'Filmmaking' module in the third year of the CP course Jordii has written this film himself and has made the most of our ties with the MA Digital Media cohort, as his entire cast is made up of Digital Media Actors! Our very own CP's Sam Bellamy, Rachel Coates, Blue DeLuca and Leanne Thompson have assisted as crew on this shoot, while Jordii Capelli has had a blast working as both director and writer

The first shoot week of 'Are You Crying Right Now' is now complete! AYCRN is a longform music video / short film written, directed, produced and conceived by third years Rachel Coates, Blue DeLuca and Leah Ebbrell. It is a film set to an original score composed by Blue DeLuca and focuses on the story of two best friends displaced across universes being forced to accept that their lives are going in seperate ways. Like Jordii, they are making this film as a part of their optional 'Filmmaking' module. This module has allowed them to combine their filmmaking and producing skills from the past two years, encouraging them to operate as a professional film production company by sourcing their own actors and crew, location scouting and completing industry level call sheets for all involved.

SECOND YEAR PODCAST MODULE

This term our second years have been incredibly busy producing public facing podcasts! This term they have had six weeks to produce four podcast episodes along with bespoke social media marketing campaigns to support them

⚠ SENSITIVE CONTENT WARNINGS: SUICIDE AND STRONG LANGUAGE.

Lillis Franklin-Goddard has created 'Existential Lovers' a new audio drama podcast performed by herself and ex-stage combat student Ewan Henry. It explores the relationship of couple Ralph and Prim on their journey to rediscover their lust for life. When Prim witnesses a gruesome suicide, it leads her to question her own mortality. With Ralph's guidance, they attempt to rediscover their lust for life But how does one define too far for love?

Touching up on your mental health is important in a big city where everyone minds their business. No one really asks “how are you, really?" Emilia Orlinska solves this issue with her interview based podcast, speaking about experiences of people who emigrated from their hometown (or even country) to start a new adventure here in the UK

Step into the cutting-edge world of AI with the "AI Revolution" podcast Hosted by Marius Laiho and a group of tech-savvy first years, this show is your ticket to understanding the impact of Artificial Intelligence on our daily lives From groundbreaking developments to ethical considerations, we bring you the latest and greatest in the AI world Tune in and join the conversation as we explore the exciting possibilities and challenges of the AI Revolution.

Third Years Blue De Luca and Leanne Thompson are making the most of our network and facilities here on the East 15 Southend Campus. They are sharpening their shooting and live vision mixing skills while volunteering to film and live stream the shows from our very own Clifftown Theatre Recently they have been training second year Lillis and first year KC, so they are ready to take over these roles once our third years graduate and move into the industry!

Funded by the Creative Estuary project, I have spent the past few months working as

a Studio Assistant for Grrrrl Zine Fair based in Westcliff Part of my role at GZF was to produce a launch event for their newest publication, Grrrr In Print Issue 5: Queer Utopias The event took place in North London’s own queer utopia, Dalston Superstore The night consisted of an exhibit I curated with artists featured in the issue, as well as live DJs, Nail & Tooth Gem stalls and drop-in zine making It was great to develop connections with queer venues and work to produce an event that aligned with my own personal values It was a pleasure getting the chance to platform LGBTQIA+ art and communities

'GRRRR IN PRINT ISSUE 5: QUEER UTOPIAS' IS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE VIA @GRRRLZINEFAIR AND THE GZF EXHIBIT IS AVAILABLE TO VISIT AT DALSTON SUPERSTORE UNTIL EARLY MAY.

If you do find an issue with accessing the industry a good way to adapt is by registering what role you'd want to take on, then lowering yourself on the ladder a little just to get through the door of that company. Or looking for alternative job roles that allow you to still exercise your creativity in a similar way, like the way that Cleo lends her expertease to us - to develop the next generation of film makers!

The Royal Court in London run a series of writers groups and workshops every year, giving opportunity for up and coming writer’s with little or no experience They select individuals with raw talent and big ideas to think more deeply about writing for theatre alongside a group of their peers, guided by produced playwrights working in the industry.

All the hard work we put into our playwriting modules seems to be paying off. Our very own 3rd Year Blue De Luca has recently had a successful application onto this five week writers programme. Congratulations Blue!

Our first years have been sharpening their digital design skill set within their graphic design modules this term. They have had to respond to a brief set by the Royal Opera House, to design a marketing poster for their recent rendition of Mozart's The Magic Flute The posters were made using Photoshop and Indesign, giving the first years a chance to develop vocational experience working with these industry level pieces of Adobe software.

CONTEXT HAS NEVER BEEN SO FUN!

As producers, we are always encouraged to think outside the box, and our first years have been demonstrating this beautifully. Within their context lessons they have been deconstructing Shakespeare's Hamlet and Sophocles' Antigone When it came to feeding back on their research, they decided to do so via finger puppets in a custom puppet theatre which they made! We love to see our creatives finding new ways of approaching work

“WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING THAT'S DIFFERENT AND FUN. WE'VE HAD A LOT OF DEADLINES THIS MONTH SO WE WANTED TO SPICE THINGS UP AND DECIDED A PUPPET SHOW PRESENTATION WAS THE PERFECT WAY TO DO IT!”
