Many people will be thinking about how to make next year better than this year and will probably even make a new year›s resolution or two. They will be trying to change old habits, create new ones, work harder, find the «one», spend more time with family, earn more money, quit smoking, lose weight, and so many more aims that will probably be forgotten about before the first month is over. New Year›s Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It›s a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. My resolutions for 2011 are: · · · · · ·

عترف االحت��اد الدولي أللعاب القوى مبنافسات ألعاب القوى في دورة األلعاب العربية الدوحة 2011كونها مؤهلة ألوملبياد لندن .2012مما يجعل هذا احلدث الرياضي االقليمي نقطة انطالق لتحقيق طموحات أكبر للرياضيني الكويتيني. كذلك يعترف االحتاد الدولي أللعاب القوى بالطاقم الفني الرسمي للمنافسات ،مبا في ذلك احلكام والقضاة ،كمشاركني مؤهلني لألوملبياد الصيفي .ويشارك في بطولة األلعاب العربية 316رياضياً عربياً من ضمنهم 23كويتياً في منافسات ألعاب القوى. يقول السيد عبدالله املال مدير البث واالعالم في اللجنة املنظمة لدورة األلعاب العربية معلقاً على ذلك”:نحن فخورون بأن يكون لدى الرياضيني الكويتيني املشاركني في دورة األلعاب العربية الدوحة 2011فرصة املشاركة في أوملبياد لندن 2012مبجرد حتقيقهم أرق��ام مبستوى عاملي في منافسات ألعاب القوى .وباإلضافة إلى الفخر بالفوز بلقب األلعاب العربية ومتثيل الكويت ،سيكون هذا اإلعالن الهام جداً مبثابة حافز للرياضيني ليقدموا أفضل ما لديهم ”.وأضاف املال ”:يعتبر هذا اإلجناز تتويجاً وإثباتاً للتحضيرات الكبيرة ذات املعايير العاملية في دورة األلعاب العربية الدوحة ،2011وتعكس الصورة املشرقة لأللعاب العربية لتعود بالنفع على جميع ال��دول العربية”.
وكان املال قد ذكر بأن اللجنة املنظمة ل��دورة األلعاب العربية تسعى لدعوة مختلف االحت ��ادات ال��دول�ي��ة ل�لاع�ت��راف باملنافسات األخ��رى ف��ي مختلف ال��ري��اض��ات خالل البطوالت اإلقليمية التي تضمن عدة منافسات رياضية. اضافة الى الفوز مبيدالية دورة االلعاب العربية واحتمال التأهل للمشاركة في أوملبياد لندن ،هناك حافز اضافي للرياضيني ليؤدوا أفضل ما عندهم ويكون أداءه��م على

و مسجد يقع في الطرف الغربي من املدينة املنورة ويشتهر ببياضه الناصع.
املوقع يقع مس� � ��جد القبلتني في منطقة بني َس ِل َم ْه على هضاب حرة الوبرة في الطريق الش� � ��مالي الغربي للمدينة املنورة .وحتديداً على طريق خالد بن الوليد وتقاطعه مع ش� � ��ارع سلطانة (املركز التجاري في املدينة املنورة). وه� � ��و قريب جداً من الدائ� � ��ري الثاني (طريق املل� � ��ك عبدالله) من جهة الغرب. مساحة املسجد:

إل� � ��ى أن تلك الطريقة كانت تدفع الطائرة للنزول إلى أس� � ��فل أكث� � ��ر من قدرتها علي الصع� � ��ود ألعل� � ��ى .يرجع ذلك ألن أوتو كان يعلق نفس� � ��ه في الطائ� � ��رة بكتفه وال يعلق نفس� � ��ه فيها بطريقة منزلقه مثلما يحدث في طائرات اليوم .باإلضافة إلىذلك فكان يستطيع فقط حتريك رجليه وأسفل جسمه فقلل ذلك من كمية الوزن املزاح املستطاع حتقيقه. قام ليلينتال بالعديد من احملاوالت لتطوير وحتس� �ي��ن طائراته وجعلها أكثر استقراراً قس� � ��م فيه� � ��ا باع اجلناح إلي والعدي� � ��د منها جنح .ذلك يتضمن عمل طائرة مزدوجة ً قس� � ��مني متس� � ��اويني ،وإضافة ذيل للطائرة ،والذي جعل الطائ� � ��رة تطير ألعلى أكثر. وتوقع أن جناح الطيور وقالباتها (باإلجنليزيةFlaps :) ضرورية لطيران أفضل ،وقد عمل علي تصميم طائرات تستخدم هذا. الطيران األخير كان آخر طيران له في 9أغس� � ��طس 1896وقد سقط من ارتفاع 17متر ( 56قدم) وكسر عموده الفقري وتوفي في اليوم التالي من سقوطه .قال قبل أن ميوت (Kleine )Opfer müssen gebracht werdenأي :يجب بذل التضحيات الصغيرة .دفن في مقبرة النكوتز وهي مقبرة عامة في برلني. تركته كان عم� � ��ل ليلينثال مهم ج� � ��دا لالخوان رايت وكان مصدر إلهام رئيس� � ��ي لهم التخاذ قرارات متعلقة لعمل أول رحلة طيران مأهولة .لكن تخلى األخوان عن البيانات التي قام بها ليلينثال وبدؤوا بقيام بيانات خاصة بهم واس� � ��تخدام نفق الهواء اخلاص بهم أيضا

(باألملاني ��ة( )Otto Lilienthal :ول ��د ف ��ي 23ماي ��و 1848ف ��ي انكالم ،مقاطع ��ة بوميرانيا ،أملانيا ،وتوفى في 10أغس ��طس 1896في برلني) وهو واحد من رواد الطيران الذي أصبح يعرف باس ��م ملك الطائرة الش ��راعية األملاني .وكان أول ش ��خص اس ��تطاع القيام برحالت متكررة ناجحة بطائرة شراعية .انتهج جتربة مت إنشائها في وقت سابق في القرن التاسع عشر عن طريق السير جورج كيلي والذي يلقب بأب ��و الدينامي ��كا الهوائي ��ة .الصحف واملجالت في كثير من البلدان التي نش ��رت ص ��ورا لليلينثال وهو على منت الطائرة الش ��راعية عملت على التأثير بشكل ايجابي في الرأي العام و طرحت حلول علمية حول إمكانية الطيران باآلالت الطائرة فيما قد يصبح واقع ًا عملي ًا بعد سنوات من اخليال حول إمكانية الطيران.

أمراء القلعة هناك عدة ش� � ��يوخ لقبيلة البدارا استخدموا ش� � ��نقل لعدة أمور مثل :مجلس للقضاء وس� � ��جن للتأديب وأيضا للدفاع عن تربة بقوة الس� �ل��اح وإعط� � ��اء اإلنذارات في حالة اخلطر باإلضافة إلى السكن فيها وإجارة الدخيل على القبيلة .وهؤالء األمراء هم: راجح بن منفور البدري البقمي مؤس� � ��س القلعة وبانيها ,وش� � ��يخ قبيلة البدارا ,إكتملت القلعة في عهده ,وقد شاركه رجال قبيلة البدارا البناء ,وس� � ��كنها مع أس� � ��رته وبعض األس� � ��ر من البدارا ومن غير البدارا وذلك في منتصف القرن الثاني عشر الهجري تقريبا اي من بعد عام 1150 هجري� � ��ة وحتى عام 1230هجرية وذلك بعد هجم� � ��ات جيوش الدولة العثمانية على تربة.
حصن ش� � ��نقل :كان حصناً في جبل كرا وهو مشرف على وادي تربة وضواحيه ,وقد أوشك على اخلراب والتهدم. يقع حصن شنقل على طرف ركبة من احلرة ,متقدمة نحو وادي تربة وبناؤه من الطني احل� � ��ر ,وانصاف جدرانه الس� � ��فلى من احلجارة ,وما زالت مبانيه قائمة ,ومس� � ��احته مبان دائرية التس� � ��تعمل غالباً صغيرة ,ويظهر من بنائه أنه قلعة حرب ألن في زواياه ٍ للسكن. ويقول املؤرخ محمد بن ماجد بن غنام في كتابه (أجزاع تربة وديار البقوم): إن (ش� � ��نقل) كان في ذروة بنائه وس� � ��كنه في النصف الثاني من القرن الثاني عش� � ��ر الهجري. لقد س� � ��كنت أسرة غالية البقمية تلك القلعة مع عدد من األسر وعندما دخلت قوات الشريف عبد الله األول بن احلسني تربة قاومت قلعة شنقل يوماً كام ً ال وبعد غروب ذلك اليوم خرج من كان فيها إلى احلرار املجاورة لها شرقاً. ش� � ��نقل اليوم قرية أثرية تلوح على جدرانها كثير من معاني الكبرياء وس� � ��طور التاريخ وعبرة الزمن.
وقد كان البناء في زمن الش� � ��يخ عبد الرحمن بن س� � ��لطان البدري أبو األميرة غالية البقمية “وذلك ينفي بناء غالية للقلعة” والذي كان في زمانه صاحب س� � ��يادة وثراء, وقد س� � ��كن الش� � ��يخ عبد الرحمن قلعة شنقل هو وأسرته وذلك بحسب ما أورد املؤرخ واألديب إبن غنام في كتابه “أجزاع تربة وديار البقوم” مانصه( :لقد س� � ��كنت أس� � ��رة غالية تلك القلعة مع عدد من األسر). دخيل الله بن منفور البدري البقمي ش� � ��يخ لقبيلة البدارا وأميرا للقلعة ,إس� � ��تلم الش� � ��يخة واألمارة من بعد أحداث معركة بسل بعدة سنوات والتي كانت عام 1230هجري ,واتخذ منها سكن ومجلس للقضاء وغيرها من األمور الرئاسية. نافل بن دخيل الله بن منفور البدري البقمي ش� � ��يخ لقبيلة البدارا وأميراً ملنطقة املعذر في تربة ,كانت ش� � ��هرة هذا الش� � ��يخ واسعة وصيته ذائع في ذلك الزمن ,إستلم أمارة القبيلة والقلعة بعد وفاة ابيه دخيل الله بن منف� � ��ور عام 1265هجري تقريباً ,وقد كان مقطع حق (قاضي عرفي) لقبيلة البقوم كاف� � ��ة ,يقال أن� � ��ه “عند أي قضية” كان يختار رجالن من الرجال األش� � ��داء من قبيلة البدارا على باب القلعة مبشاعيب ملن ال يرضى بحكمه ,توفي في أواخر القرن الثالث عشر الهجري. عبد الله بن دخيل الله بن منفور البدري البقمي إشتهر بعبد الله العسيس ,وهو أكثر رجال وشيوخ البدارا شهرة ,إستلم أمارة وقيادة القبيل� � ��ة والقلعة بعد وفاة اخي� � ��ه نافل بن منفور وذلك في نهاي� � ��ة النصف الثاني من القرن الثالث عشر الهجري وحتى قتل باألعيرة النارية في منطقة القرين شمال تربة وجنوب اخلرمة وهو على صهوة جواده في ليلة معركة تربة عام 1337هجرية ,وقد كان ف� � ��ي أح� � ��د دفاعاته عن تربة ضد فرقة خيالة م� � ��ن اإلخوان عددهم يقارب 200 خيال ,وقد كان العسيس قائد اخليالة في جيش عبد الله األول بن احلسني. إتخذ القلعة للدفاع عن تربة وإشعال النار في املربعة إلعطاء اإلنذارات ,واتخذ فيها مجلس للقضاء العرفي القبلي واس� � ��تخدم فيها س� � ��جن للتأديب باإلضافة إلى السكن وإجارة الدخالء. سكانها غير البدارا س� � ��كن ش� � ��نقل عدة أس� � ��ر من البقوم وغير البقوم من األمراء والوجهاء والدخالء من أشهرهم:
أقوال املؤرخني يقول املؤرخ رداد بن ناصر البقمي في كتابه (أمكنة باب احلجاز ونسب قبيلة البقوم): حصن شنقل لقبيلة البدارا من البقوم.

قلعة شنقل �رقي وادي ه� � ��ي قلعة أثري� � ��ة حصينة في تربة البقوم وحتديداً في قــريـــة الـل ـ ُبْـــط ش� � � ّ ترب� � ��ة ف� � ��ي (منطقة مكة املكرمة -اململكة العربية الس� � ��عودية حاليا) وهي مبنية على الصبُ� � ��ر الصخري الذي يعتبر أحد احلدود الش� � ��مالية الغربية منحدر سلس� � ��لة ضلع ُ حلرة البقوم ,وترتفع 1166م عن سطح البحر. معنى شنقل ال يوج� � ��د معنى محدد الس� � ��م القلعة ولكن لها عدة معاني ,فمن معاني ش� � ��نقل :ميل, بضم امليم وتشديد الياء أو بتشديد الياء فقط ,مأخوذ من امليل وعدم اإلستواء على األرض ,ويفسر ذلك بناؤه على منحدر أو أرض مائلة. ويق� � ��ال أيضا أن معنى ش� � ��نقل هو :الس� � ��قوط ,ويفس� � ��ر ذلك بس� � ��قوط األعداء حول جدرانها. ويقال أن معنى شنقل :مفتوح ،فيقال البيت مشنقل أي بابه مفتوح ,ويفسر ذلك كثرة الدخالء على شنقل طلباً لألمان وغير ذلك.
مخازن س� �ل��اح ومؤونة وبها مربط صغير للخي� � ��ل ,نصفها مبني من احلجر والنصف اآلخر من اللنب وس� � ��قفها من جذوع النخل ولكن سقفها تهدم وبعض أجزائها العلوية بس� � ��بب عوامل الطبيعة ونظرا لع� � ��دم األهتمام من اجلهات املس� � ��ؤولة عن اآلثار في السعودية بقت على هذا احلال. من بناها يعتقد البعض أن من بنى قلعة ش� � ��نقل هي األميرة غالية البدرية البقمية بينما يذكر املؤرخ محمد بن غنام أن قلعة شنقل كانت مكتملة البناء والسكن من بعد عام 1150 هجرية وهيئة اآلثار في الس� � ��عودية تقول أن عمر القلعة قارب 300عام ,بذلك جند أن التواريخ املعطاة تقول أن بناء قلعة ش� � ��نقل كان في عهد الش� � ��يخ عبد الرحمن بن سلطان البدري أبو األميرة غالية البقمية وبانيها هو الشيخ راجح بن منفور البدري.

ويقال أن شنقل كلمة تركية األصل وقد كان استخدامها مشاع قدميا في احلجاز.

طفلك فى الشهر اخلامس
يبتسم لوحدة ويتابع األشياء املتحركة 180درجه. يصدر أصوات من فمه (يناغي). يسمع جيدا وينتبه لألصوات. يبدأ فى التعرف على احمليطني به ويفرق بينهم. طفلك فى الشهر الرابع برنامج التغذية ال ينصح بإعطاء الطفل اى غذاء بخالف الرضاعة الطبيعية. تعطى الرضعات كل 3ساعات تقريبا.
برنامج التغذية يب� � ��دا باعطاء الطفل عصير برتقال او عصي� � ��ر ليمون او تفاح او طماطم او جزر فى ميعاد رضعه 5مساءا عصير الليمون :نصف فنجان صغير ماء سبق غليه 2 +نقطه ليمون مصفى +قليل من السكر عصير البرتقال :نصف فنجان صغير ماء س� � ��بق غليه +نصف فنجان صغير برتقال مصفي. ميكن اعطاء العصير مضروبا فى اخلالط مع اضافة ماء سبق غليه ويعطى بامللعقة. نبدا مبعلقة صفيرة اول يوم تزداد تدريجيا مبقدار معلقة حتى 8مالعق فى اليوم. اذا ادى اس� � ��تعمال عصير البرتقال الى حدوث لني او اسهال ميكن استبداله بعصير الليمون.
تطورات النمو
بعد اسبوعني يبدا باعطاء شوربه اخلضار او تفاح او كمثري مسلوقة.

ش� � ��وربه اخلضار : بطاطس – كوس� � ��ه – جزر وتوضع فى لتر ماء وتغلي ملدة س� � ��اعة ثم تصفى مبصفاه ضيقة جدا وبدون دعك .....يزداد دعك الش� � ��وربه تدريجيا عند عملها بعد ذلك حتى تصبح غليظة القوام.
يبتسم لوحده ويحب جدا أن تالعبيه.
يعطى الزبادى فى معياد رضعه مساءا

ال تنسي جرعة من فيتامني د والتعرض للشمس يوميا. تطورات النمو يرفع راسه وصدره مرتكزا على ذراعية املمدودتني وهو نائم على بطنه. يجلس مرتكزا على يديه يتقلب من بطنه الى ظهره وبالعكس ميسك بيده بعض اللعب اذا وضعت فى يده يضحك بصوت عالي.

مراحل منو الطفل
يج� � ��ب متابعة لو الطفل في ضوء النه� � ��ار أو النيون ملتابعة اى اصفرار في اللون .في نس� � ��بة كبيرة من األطفال قد تظهر الصفراء الفسيولوجية في اليوم الثاني أو الثالث م� � ��ن عم� � ��ر الطفل وتختفي تلقائيا في خالل أس� � ��بوعني ولكنها حتت� � ��اج لعالج ضوئي باس� � ��تخدام ملبات خاصة أو تغيير الدم إذا زادت عن نس� � ��ب معينة لذا يجب استشارة الطبيب في اقرب فرصة.

مباشرة جلميع األطفال لتالفى حدوث مرض النزيف في حديثي الوالدة.

Their Echoing piercing into my existence, as I move forwards I see a deer passing by.. I turn to see where it went. There, I spot it.. Near the trees and the lavenders of the sweetest smell.. Flowers circling where I stand.. Colors painting the dull world where I come from, how lovely it seems.. So careless and innocent, so fragile yet beautiful and mighty, I walk towards it in hope of gently touching it’s amazing fur, in a blink of an eye it skips away and disappears into the shadowing jungle, I continue my journey to find a beautiful pond at the end of the path which I walk, so extraordinary in it’s calmness and mix of bright colors as if being perfectly designed and painted carefully, It starts to rain the sky so depressing.. With rain that pour like tears from losing a dear one, I gain a bit closer to look at myself in the pond.. As the drops of Rain came down across my cheeks and trickle down into the pond.. What I see is a blur.. My reflection getting lost in the movements that have been irrupted by the rain.. My soul drowning with every drop, every move, and I feel such darkness surrounding me.. A painful grip of death.. A sudden cold breeze that seems to never end.. My eyes getting heavy.. I start to lose my breath.. I feel all the rushing blood is my heart stopping to a halt.. A LOVEY ESSENCE A
lovey essence i read between the two, like a colorful thread of purest light being drawn in mid air. So fascinating to the bare eye of a dreamer. Running across like butterflies of a child's imagination,blue.. green.. red.. start to seep thru. Music starts to play. Wind whooshing thru my hair, fluttering my clothes.. as if they had a life of their own, wanting to join this joyous playful play-date..smells of exotic fragrances.. being jently suffocated, not wanting to resist the overwhelming feeling. Summer white dress i wore.. glowing in the warm daylight. I walk across the golden feild and start to sway to the rhythm of the winds music. An ancient chant being played.. i hear the voices of others who have long ago sung this beautiful song.. who have been drawn to this serect spell that covers this land. A figment starts to vaguely appear, holds my hand and start leading me into this wondrous dance. I feel so alive.. my emotions all awakened and revived. More magnificent than any other dream i've had. I close my eyes and see with my heart.. i feel everything around me.. i see everything come to life. Plants.. Trees.. Rocks all grant me smiles and welcome me into their worlds arms, as if this has been a long awaited event finally assembled by its members. I float in the bed of air and start to let go of all care. How amazing!.. i am belonging to such a place.. such a marvelous dream.. witnessing the breathtaking summer and spring of time.. to forever join lifes most stupendous orchestra.

الوصف املعماري ميتد بناء احلصن على مس� � ��احة واس� � ��عة ويأخذ شكل مس� � ��تطيل باجتاه شمال جنوب، وينتصب هيكل املعبد في أعلى نقطة من منتصف احلرم ،وهو ذو ثالثة أقسام رئيسية: -1احلرم الكبير -2قاعة العبادة -3احلرم الصغير.
أصلي واحد وبالتالي التكام� � ��ل الوظيفي بني احلرمني ،وبقي احلرم الصغير على حاله حتى الفترة املس� � ��يحية األولى حيث بنيت الكنيس� � ��ة ضمنه .أما اختي� � ��ار املوقع للمركز الديني فقد حدده ش� � ��يئان مهمان هما :النبع والصخرة املقدس� � ��ة حتت املعبد وهو ليس موقعا منعزال كما نعتقد اآلن وإمنا كان يقع على الطريق الرئيسية الواصلة بني املنطقة الساحلية واملنطقة الداخلية.
وس� � ��ور احلصن مبني بحجارة مستطيلة ضخمة يصل طولها إلى عشرة أمتار وارتفاعها إل� � ��ى 2،6م وفي كل جانب من جوانب الس� � ��ور األربعة بوابة يت� � ��م العبور من خاللها إلى حرم املعبد. احلرم الكبير وهو مس� � ��تطيل الشكل أبعاده 134×85م بني بحجارة كلسية محلية ضخمة بلغت أبعاد بعضها 1.2×9×3مت ًرا بعضها ش� � ��ذب بشكل نهائي وبعضها اآلخر لم يشذب .ويتكون احل� � ��رم الكبير م� � ��ن 4بوابات بنيت أيضا بحجارة ضخمة واحدة في كل ضلع ،في أعلى كل منها حجر مس� � ��تطيل مزخرف بأش� � ��كال للنسر والثور وهي تش� � ��به الرسومات التي وجدت في معبد باخوس في بعلبك .ويقع الباب الرئيسي في الشمال ويتألف من ثالثة مداخ� � ��ل وعرض� � ��ه 15م وكان للمدخل رواق خارجي وآخر داخلي يس� � ��تند كل منها على ثمانية أعمدة والرواق اخلارجي كان فيه محرابان ومدخالن جانبيان وقوس جميل على املدخل .أما بابي الشرق والغرب فكانا متماثلني ،ولكل واحد منهما محرابان ،وفي أعلى الب� � ��اب لوح حجري مزخرف .أما في الباب الش� � ��رقي فيوجد نق� � ��ش لرأس رجل وكتابة يونانية تؤرخ تكريس الس� � ��كان لهذا املكان عام 171م وفي نهاية اجلدار الشمالي يوجد نقش أس� � ��دين وكتابة أضيفت فيما بعد عام 255م خالل حكم اإلمبراطورين فاليريان وجالينوس. بشكل عام يتألف احلرم من العناصر التالية :اجلدران – املعبد -الرواق املع ّمد للبوابة الش� � ��مالية -املذبح الكبير -بقاي� � ��ا غرفة أمام الرواق املعمد للبوابة الش� � ��مالية .ترمز الرسوم النافرة للنسر .من خالل املقارنة التي قام بها د .كالوس ستيفان فرايبرغر بني حصن س� � ��ليمان ومعبد جرش في األردن ومعبد باخوس في بعلبك واللذان مت بناؤهما خ� �ل��ال القرن الثاني املي� �ل��ادي ،وباالعتماد على الكتابات املنقوش� � ��ة على بعض بوابات احلرم الكبير ،فقد توقع التواريخ التالية لبعض املنشآت: املذبح الكبير 132م ،البوابة الشرقية 170م ،البوابة اجلنوبية 204م ،ولكن تاريخ إنشاء املعب� � ��د غير محدد بدقة ،بالرغم من أن ش� � ��كل حجارة وبواب� � ��ات وجدران احلرم الكبير تشير إلى تقنيات ومناذج بناء كانت مستخدمة في نهاية القرن األول قبل امليالد. قاعة العبادة تعود إلى القرن الثالث امليالدي .وهي على شكل مستطيل أبعاده 50×14م بني بحجارة كلس� � ��ية محلية منحوتة يشكل دقيق ،وحجمها أصغر بكثير من األحجام املستخدمة في ج� � ��دران احلرم الكبير وتصل أكبرها حجما إلى 3×0.9×0.9م .يش� � ��به تصميم املعبد تصميم العديد من املعابد املوجودة في س� � ��ورية ولبن� � ��ان ،فضلاً عن أن النموذج األيوني لتيجان األعمدة مش� � ��ابه لنماذج تيجان األعمدة في معبد جرش في األردن .اكتش� � ��فت البعث� � ��ة األملانية التي عملت في معبد بعلبك في بداي� � ��ات القرن املاضي وخالل زيارتها وعملها في موقع حصن سليمان أجزاء من اجلدار األقدم أمام اجلدار اجلنوبي احلالي للمعبد من الداخل ،وهذا يش� � ��ير إلى عملية إعادة بناء متت مع توس� � ��يع املنشأة الدينية واحملافظة على النواة املقدس� � ��ة لقدس األقداس وهي العادة الش� � ��ائعة في ذلك الوقت ومثال على ذلك معبد بل في تدمر. احلرم الصغير يقع إلى الش� � ��مال الغربي من احلرم الكبير ويبعد عنه 57م وميلك ش� � ��كال مرب ًعا أبعاده 60×60م ويضم املباني التالية: معبد صغير شكله مستطيل ويقع في الزاوية اجلنوبية الشرقية منه. مبنى مس� � ��تطيل ذو جزء دائري يتوس� � ��ط الواجهة الغربية واجتاه� � ��ه إلى الغرب وهومجهول الوظيفة حتى اآلن. الكنيس� � ��ة والتي تتوس� � ��ط الواجهة الش� � ��رقية وهي ال تعود إلى فت� � ��رة البناء األصليةللحرمني. أما تقنيات البناء املس� � ��تخدمة في جدران احلرم الصغير وبواباته فهي مشابهة ملثيالتها في احلرم الكبير وهذا يشير إلى فترة بناء واحدة خالل القرن الثاني امليالدي ،وتصميم

و موقع أثري في س� � ��وريا على بع� � ��د 14كم من مدينة ومصيف دريكيش وهو االس� � ��م العربي للحصن واملعبد واس� � ��مه القدمي ه� � ��و باثيوس� � ��ي ،حيث أقام س� � ��كان جزيرة أرواد /أرادوس الذين كانوا يس� � ��يطرون على جزء كبير من الساحل الس� � ��وري ،أقاموا معبدا لعشتروت وبعل ،واحلصن عبارة عن س� � ��ور بحجارة ضخمة ويتوس� � ��ط امل� � ��كان هيكل للمعبد األثري. بداية احلصن يتوضع حصن س� � ��ليمان في منخفض من األرض حتيط به املرتفعات اجلبلية .أنش� � ��أه اآلراميون عندما استوطنوا هذه املناط� � ��ق اجلبلية احلصينة هر ًبا من هجمات اآلش� � ��وريني، ومت تكريس� � ��ه في البداية لعبادة اإلله بيتو خيخي .ثم جدده الس� � ��لوقيون والروم� � ��ان قبل أن تبنى فيه كنيس� � ��ة في العهد البيزنطي .أما اسمه احلالي فيعود للسكان احملليني الذين أثارت حجارته الضخمة إحساس� � ��هم باإلعجاز واعتقادهم أن جن النبي س� � ��ليمان هم من بنوا هذا املعبد وقاموا بنقل األحجار الضخمة التي تزن أكثر من 70طنًا. املوقع اجلغرافي يقع حصن س� � ��ليمان ف� � ��ي محافظة طرط� � ��وس ،ويبعد عن طرطوس 50كم ش� � ��ر ًقا وعن صافيتا 20كم باجتاه شمال شرق وعن دريكيش 15كم ،وعن مصياف 14كم ..ويرتفع عن س� � ��طح البح� � ��ر 790م .حيث يتوضع ف� � ��ي منخفض من األرض حتيط به املرتفع� � ��ات اجلبلية من كل اجلوانب على الس� � ��فوح الش� � ��مالية الغربية م� � ��ن قمة النب� � ��ي صالح وعلى مسافة 14كم إلى الشمال من بلدة مشتى احللو. حملة تاريخية كان يس� � ��مى في العصور القدمية بيت أخيخي وفق نصوص الكتابات اليونانية املكتشفة في احلرم الكبير للمعبد حيث
كان مك َّر ًس� � ��ا لعبادة إله محلي آرامي اسمه منقوش باليونانية على أماكن مختلفة من املعبد “إله بيتو خيخي” وهو يوازي اإلله زيوس رب السماء عن اليونان. احلصن هو عبارة عن معبد آرامي قدمي َّ مت جتديد بنائه وتوس� � ��يعه ف� � ��ي الربع الثالث م� � ��ن القرن الثاني امليالدي .لق� � ��د بنى اآلراميون هذا املعبد بعد أن هربوا من اآلشوريني وأتوا إلى هذه املنطقة من جبال الس� � ��احل ألن املمالك اآلرامية كان� � ��ت غير قادرة على حماية نفس� � ��ها وأل َّن اآلشوريني كانوا يرهقونهم بالضرائب .وعندما توسع اآلرامي� � ��ون صاروا بحاجة إلى معب� � ��د مخصص إللههم الرب “بيتو خيخي” .ويعد من أحس� � ��ن املعابد صيان� � ��ة بعد معبد بل في تدمر وبعلبك. كان ه� � ��ذا املعب� � ��د موج� � ��و ًدا زمن الس� � ��لوقيني ،وأقي� � ��م على أطالل معبد أقدم منه حينما جدد س� � ��لوقس نيكاتور بناءه وك ّرس� � ��ه لإلله “بع� � ��ل -زيوس” وس� � ��ماه “بي� � ��ت خيخي زيوس” أو “بيت سيس� � ��ي زوس” .ازدهر املعبد في عه� � ��د الرومان الذين بدؤوا بتجديده في الق� � ��رن األول املي� �ل��ادي .ولكن اإلجناز احلقيق� � ��ي حدث في القرن الثان� � ��ي امليالدي خالل حكم اإلمبراطور س� � ��بتيموس س� � ��فيروس، وبقي� � ��ت العبادة متارس فيه حتى القرن الرابع امليالدي ،في الفترة البيزنطي� � ��ة ،أي م� � ��ا بعد اعتناق املس� � ��يحية دينًا رس� � ��م ًيا في عهد اإلمبراطور قس� � ��طنطني الكبير .وتظهر هناك رس� � ��الة من القيصر إل� � ��ى احلاكم كي يحت� � ��رم األم تي� � ��ازات التي منحها حاك� � ��م الوالية للس� � ��كان .كما من� � ��ح وقف ملعبد (زي� � ��وس) من أجل ذبائ� � ��ح املعبد. وأحدثوا س� � ��و ًقا جتارية كان يتم عقدها مرتني بالشهر مبوجب أمر رس� � ��مي .كما منح ح� � ��ق اللجوء إلى املعبد واالحتم� � ��اء فيه ،كما في معبد دافني ومعبد جوبيتر في دمش� � ��ق وأعفي س� � ��كان املنطقة من الضرائب .كما أن الكتابات في احلصن تش� � ��ير إلى أن اإلله األكبر ً لبيتوسيسي هو اٍ له شاف من األمراض واٍ ن مريضا زار 360طبي ًبا دون جدوى وشفي بأعجوبة فيه.

aylor Swift is an American country pop singer-songwriter. In 2006, she released her self-titled debut album, which was subsequently certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Singer, songwriter, musician. Born Taylor Alison Swift on December 13, 1989, in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Swift spent her early years on her family’s Christmas tree farm. Her grandmother had been a professional opera singer, and Swift soon followed in her footsteps. By the age of 10, Swift was singing at a variety of local events, including fairs and contests. She sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Philadelphia 76ers game at the age of 11, and began writing her own songs and learning guitar at 12 years old. To pursue her music career, Swift often visited Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital. There she co-wrote songs, and tried to land a recording contract. Noting her dedication, Swift and her family moved to nearby Hendersonville, Tennessee, in an attempt to further Swift’s career. A stellar performance at The Bluebird Café in Nashville helped Swift get a contract with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records. She released her first single, “Tim McGraw,” in 2006, and the song became a Top 10 hit on the country charts. It also appeared on her self-titled debut album in October of that same year, selling more than 2.5 million copies. More popular singles soon followed, including “Our Song,” a No. 1 country music hit. “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Picture to Burn,” and “Should’ve Said No” were also successful tracks. In addition to commercial success, Swift received a lot of critical praise for her debut effort. B
eginning as a child star, trend-setting actress and singer Googoosh became one of the most popular Iranian celebrities in the 1970s. Her songs topped the charts and she was well-known for her miniskirts and short haircut. After the Iranian Revolution, however, she was banned from performing in the country.
(Born 1950, Tehran, Iran) Iranian singer and actress who was one of Iran’s most popular and enduring entertainers despite being banned from performing for some 20 years following the Iranian Revolution (1978–79).
Called “Googoosh” from birth, she began singing and acting at a young age, performing with her father, an entertainer, when she was a toddler and making her first film at age seven. She later appeared in such movies as Partgahe makhouf (1963; Cliff of Fear), Sheitune bala (1965; The Naughty One), and Panjereh (1970; “The Window”). In the 1970s Googoosh was at the height of her film and music career and was widely emulated by Iranian women; in addition to listening to her music, they copied her clothing (miniskirts) and her short haircut (known as the “Googooshy”). In 1979, however, Iran was declared an Islamic republic and a number of cultural restrictions were introduced; women were no longer allowed to sing in public, and pop music was banned. Although most Iranian performers chose to leave the country, Googoosh, who was visiting the United States at the time of the revolution, returned home. She was jailed briefly and thereafter led a reclusive life.

Bootleg recordings and videos remained readily available in Iran, however, and Googoosh continued to acquire fans. Following the election of President Mohammad Khatami in 1997, many restrictions began to be lifted. Some women (Googoosh was not among them) were allowed to sing in public to all-female audiences, and, while distributing pop music was still officially illegal, possession of it was permitted. In 2000 Googoosh finally was granted a passport and allowed to leave the country for the first time since the revolution. That year she staged her first world tour, which began in Toronto, where she and her husband, Iranian film director Masud Kimiai, eventually settled. Googoosh’s later recordings include Zoroaster (2000) and Last News (2004).

Tyler Perry was born September 13, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He had a difficult childhood, suffering years of abuse. In 1992 he directed, produced, and starred in the musical I Know I’ve Been Changed. His 2000 play, I Can Do Bad All by Myself brought to life the character Madea, who would later appear in several successful films. Perry continues to write and produce new plays. Writer, actor, producer, director. Born Emmitt Perry Jr. on September 13, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tyler Perry has forged his own way in the entertainment industry, building an empire that consists of successful films, plays, and even a best-selling book. One of four children, he had a difficult childhood, suffering years of abuse at the hands of his carpenter father. He once described his father as a man “whose answer to everything was to beat it out of you.” At one point, Perry even attempted suicide in an effort to escape his difficult situation. At 16, he changed his first name to Tyler to separate himself from his father. Perry dropped out of high school, but he eventually earned a general equivalency diploma, or GED, later. Trying to find his way professionally, he held a series of unfulfilling jobs before discovering his true passion. Watching an episode of Oprah Winfrey’s talk show, Perry was inspired by a comment on the program about how writing about difficult experiences could lead to personal breakthroughs. He started a series of letters to himself, which became the basis for the musical I Know I’ve Been Changed. While the show tackled such tough subjects as child abuse, it also touched on forgiveness; a theme has remained central in many of his works and reflects his deep connection to his Christian faith. After saving up $12,000, Perry debuted the show—which he directed, produced, and starred in—at an Atlanta theater in 1992. The musical’s run lasted only one weekend and drew a measly 30 people to see the show.

Tyler Perry
Disappointed yet determined, Perry continued to work odd jobs while reworking the show. He staged the show in several other cities, but success still eluded him. Broke, Perry was living out of his car for a time. “Can you imagine a six-foot-five man sleeping in a Geo Metro?” he once told Essence magazine. In 1998, Perry tried one more time to win over theater audiences. He rented out the House of Blues in Atlanta for another production of I Know I’ve Been Changed. Soon Perry was performing to sell out crowds and the musical was moved to a larger theater. After so many years of hard work, he finally earned critical acclaim as well as commercial success. For his next project, Perry worked on an adaptation of evangelist T. D. Jakes’s book Woman, Thou Art Loosed, which proved to be quite popular. His next effort, however, brought to life his most famous character Madea. The gun-toting, sharptongue grandma first appeared in his 2000 play, I Can Do Bad All by Myself. Basing Madea on his mother and several other mature women in his life, Perry played the eccentric character himself wearing drag. She next appeared in Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2001). Developing quite a following, Madea has starred in a number of plays, including Madea’s Family Reunion (2002) and Madea’s Class Reunion (2003). Perry toured extensively with his shows.
According to his website, 35,000 people a week saw one of his shows in 2005. Big Screen Success That same year, Perry proved himself to be a box office powerhouse with the release of his debut film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, starring Kimberly Elise as the scorned wife and Steve Harris as the adulterous husband. Perry appeared as three different characters in the film, including the legendary Madea. Eventually grossing more than $50 million, the film’s success showed Hollywood that there was a market for urban African American comedies. Perry’s plays continued to make a successful leap to the big screen. He took on the leading role in Madea’s Family Reunion (2006), which he also directed and produced, which scored well with movie goers bringing in more than $63 million. Now a major media figure, Perry established his own movie and acting studio in Atlanta that year. He also launched his first television series, House of Payne, on the TBS cable network. Starring Cassi Davis and LaVan Davis, both of whom have worked with Tyler previously, this sitcom features a multigenerational African American family. Adding to his already dynamic career, Perry wrote the 2006 best-selling book, Don’t Make a Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings: Madea’s Uninhibited Commentaries on Love and Life. The book went on to win two Quill Awards—Book of the Year and Best in Humor. Recent Projects
Perry’s next release, The Family That Preys (2008), features two talented veteran performers, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodward, as two longtime friends who try to heal their broken families. Next up for Perry, another film installment featuring one of America’s best-known grandmothers, Madea Goes to Jail, which is slated for release in 2009. He also has a role in the latest big screen volume of the Star Trek saga— another 2009 release. Despite all of his work in film and television, Perry continues to write and produce new plays. His latest effort, The Marriage Counselor, is currently on tour.

Back on the big screen, Perry has continued making films about family, morals, and overcoming adversity. Daddy’s Little Girls starred Idris Elba as a father who fights regain custody of his three daughters with help from a lawyer played by Gabrielle Union. In Why Did I Get Married? Tyler explores the relationships of several married couples. The large cast included singers Jill Scott and Janet Jackson as well as Perry sans his Madea costume. Examining the struggles of a single mother, Meet the Browns (2008) starred Angela Bassett who takes her two children to meet her father’s family after his death. In August 2008, it was announced that the film is being adapted into a television sitcom, which will premiere in January 2009.

Researchers at the University of Missouri ran a study on smokers aged 18 to 35 and found that the category of people who quit in the age group of 18 to 25 found significant drops in impulsivity and neuroticism, two personality traits that are normally associated with cat ladies. The study suggests that a lot of young smokers start the habit because of impulse, not considering the long-term consequences, but when they do manage to kick it, it’s because they’ve learned to see the bigger picture. Researchers say that the impulse pattern fits the age-old perception that people start smoking because it looks cool. Working on impulse and being chock-full of neuroticism is at the opposite end of the spectrum from being a confident man. Now you can give yourself a boost by putting the butt in the ashtray for good.

• Garnish: chopped honey-roasted peanuts Directions: • Heat oil over medium-high heat in a large, deep sauté pan until shimmering. • Add sweet potatoes, then onion; sauté, stirring very little at first, then more frequently, until vegetables start to turn golden brown, 7 to 8 minutes. • Reduce heat to low and add butter, sugar and garlic; continue cooking until all vegetables are a rich spotty caramel color, about 10 minutes longer. • Add ginger, nutmeg and cayenne pepper; continue to sauté until fragrant, 30 seconds to 1 minute longer. • Add broth; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, partially covered, until sweet potatoes are tender, about 10 minutes. • Using an immersion blender or traditional blender, puree until very smooth, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Fake a Flawless Under-Eye Area
Even a last-minute breakout can disappear if you know what to do.
Wedding jitters can wreak havoc on your under-eye area. But appearing well-rested and confident on your big day is a must. Leading up to the wedding day, try to get lots of sleep and stay hydrated, recommends Ellis Faas, a makeup artist and founder of an eponymous beauty line.
So if you still have a few days left before the big day, dot the blemish with tea tree oil, witch hazel or a benzyl peroxide product to help it disappear, Singh suggests.
On the day off, Moore recommends a cold compress before layering on makeup. “Chill tea bags in the freezer and apply in the morning, or use a topical eye product with caffeine,” she suggests. Opt for gelbased products and avoid heavy creams, which can make the rest of your eye makeup rub off. Perfect a Smoky Eye It’s a great way to help your eyes standout between all of the flashing camera lights, but getting smoky eyes just right can be tricky. First decide which shadow colors will be a fit. Khush Singh, a celebrity makeup artist recommends using heavy brown shades for a subtler look or blacks and grays for a sexier one.

After you’ve figured out your palette, prep the lid with a nude shadow and line the upper lid with a pencil (if you’re more of a pro, use cream shadow and liquid liner). Smudge and blend the pencil into the lid and “set the entire lid with a cocoa-hued shadow,” she says. “Blending is super important -- the trick is not to show where it begins and ends,” she says. Add the finishing touches by using a bit more liner. “I use the same black liquid liner to outline the top and bottom of the lid from the inside for a black kohl effect. I then apply the eye showdown again with a pencil brush under the lower eyelids to elongate the eyes,” says Singh. For more drama, Singh suggests using a “darker eye shadow and using a slant brush to blend over the original eye shadow on the lower lash line.” And don’t forget to finish the eyebrows with a liner or shadow for a more pulled together look. If you’re dealing with a pimple the night before, use toothpaste overnight. In the morning put an ice cube on it for a minute or so and make a crushed aspirin and warm water paste to reduce swelling. Apply Visine eye drops to reduce redness. Before applying foundation, dab a concealer that’s slightly lighter than your skin on the breakout to make the spot disappear and press it with powder. Get a Glowing Complexion Perfecting that dewy look means coming up with a foolproof method to avoid a look that’s too sparkly. “My key technique is to add a quick and easy highlight using a powder rather than a cream or oil,” suggests Amy Hollier, co-creator of the Luxe Beauty Team, a company that provides in-house and mobile salon services. “The subtle shimmer will have far more staying power than something sticky to the touch.” Pick a shade that’s lighter than your complexion to keep it natural, she says. “For the ultimate ethereal look, I apply a soft brush of a golden or peachy highlighter to the top of cheekbones, bridge of nose, center of forehead, bow of the mouth and jawline,” Hollier says. Achieve Long-Lasting Lip Color While you’ll still need to reapply at some point during the reception, getting a long-lasting base color in the beginning of the night is key. Starting with perfectly moisturized lips is the most important, says Chantal Moore, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Faith Hill and Jennifer Garner. “Begin by exfoliating the lip with your toothbrush after you brush your teeth. Dry the lip and apply lip balm. [Then] blot most of the balm off,” she says. To moisturized lips, “apply a neutral lip liner all along the edge to enhance shape and also fill in the lip, as well.” After filling in the lips with lip liner, apply lipstick to get a color that truly stays on the lips.

HTC Sensation XL How does the Sensation’s big brother fare? T
he Sensation XL looks pretty much like the original Sensation or the Beats-equipped Sensation XE – it’s go the same form factor and styling, complete with a very sturdy metal back cover that is easy to take off and put on and also looks very nice. The front looks just slightly different – it’s more rectangular and the speaker grill (or cutout, as there is no grill per se) is smaller and doesn’t look as good. The rest is the same, except for the color, of course – if you haven’t seen the photos; the Sensation XL is completely white… even on the inside. It’s a white/red Beats design, I guess.

The display size has been increased to 4.7 inches, which is pretty much the maximum that can fit in anyone’s pocket, no matter how big they are, but the resolution is still the same old 800×480 pixels, which makes it look slightly more pixelated than the HTC Sensation, although Web pages and text documents are more visible, which is great if you work on the go. The internal hardware has been slightly upgraded, too: the new Sensation XL features the fastest third generation Snapdragon Qualcomm has to offer, the 1.5 GHz MSM8255, with the Adreno 205 graphics chip, which should be enough for most games and 3D apps out there. The amount of RAM stays the same at 768 MB, though, which is pretty surprising, but not a deal breaker, since even 512 should be enough for nearly everyone’s daily usage. HTC really dropped the ball on the storage space – unlike the original Sensation 4G, the XL does not have a micro SD card slot, and the onboard 16 GB are not really enough nowadays, especially on a big
screen smartphone whose purpose is to watch videos, play games and otherwise entertain the owner. I’m sure that there is enough space under the cover for a small card reader, but for some reason HTC decided not to include it. Another thing that HTC managed to omit is the HDMI out port – I suppose the thinking was that with a 4.7 inch display, you don’t need to output anything to an external one. But people would like to play those games on the big screen at home regardless of how well they can do it on the phone! The other hardware specs remain the same – there’s your Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS combo, accelerometer, proximity, magnetometer, gyroscope and light sensors, 8 megapixels camera on the back with LED flash and support for HD video recording (only 720p, though) and a 1.3 megapixels unit on the front for video calls, and support for 4G network speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps download and 5.76 Mbps upload. The smartphone is running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, which should come as no surprise, as Ice Cream Sandwich is reserve for the flagship Galaxy Nexus for now, but it will definitely get an update in the following months, and when that happens, this will be one heck of a handset for power users. The HTC Sensation XL is a great choice if you like really big screens, but the few negative points (limited memory, lack of HDMI) can really break the purchase for a lot of people – if you don’t care about them, however, do give it a go if you get the chance.

hey don’t call this the “giving time of the year” for nothing. A couple of years back we saw Google hook up the traveling masses with gratis WiFi, and today Skype is matching the big G’s kindness by giving you a holiday gift of its own. Starting on December 21st thru the 27th, you’ll be able to cling to an hour of costless internet access while you’re waiting on your flight -- as long as you’re in one of the 50+ airports included in the deal (map shown after the break). Aside from being outside of the lounging areas capable of accepting the courtesy, Android users are being left out of the equation, as the present can only be used by those who own a Mac, PC or iOS device. Now, the nice gesture would be even better if we knew that our fellow travelers wouldn’t be hogging all the bandwidth.

Archos launches 70b Honeycomb tablet, expected to ship next month for $199
here’s something good waiting in the desert at CES -- and you won’t need an interesting vision quest to find it. Archos has announced its 70b Internet Tablet, the company’s first Honeycomb-based slate for less than two hundred bucks ($199, to be exact). The 70b IT will be lightweight (though we’re not sure exactly how lightweight), and ship with a 1.2 GHz processor, 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, 8 gigs of flash storage, 512MB of RAM and WiFi connectivity. There’s also Android Market access, unlike with some tablets, along with HDMI output and a microSD slot. Are you sold? You’ll need wait only a few more weeks to take one home -- the 70b is expected to hit stores in January, and those of you lucky enough to be trekking out to Vegas next month can check it out at the company’s booth at CES. Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 – the Xoom, reborn
T
he Motorola Xoom was the first tablet to run on Android Honeycomb and have no external navigation buttons, and even though it was a critical success, with most reviewers and potential users being excited about it, it did not do anywhere nearly as well as Motorola, or anyone else for that matter, had expected. Despite offering quite a lot for a nice price, there weren’t that many buyers and ultimately, Motorola probably even lost money on the tablet.
But the company is not one to give up, especially now that they’re owned by Google, and after the successful launch of the Droid 3, Droid RAZR and Droid 4, all of which are pretty impressive and are doing much better than the Xoom ever could (although to be fair, they’re smartphones and there are a lot of apps available for Gingerbread, as opposed to Honeycomb when it came out), they’ve announced and released the Droid Xyboard tablets, two of them: 10.1 and 8.2 inch screen size versions.

oshiba has been pretty active on the computer market as of late, having released quite a few successful lines and models of laptops (the Qosmio gaming machine series, for example) and even a very nice and affordable Ultrabook, the Portege Z830. Their entrance to the tablet market wasn’t very successful with the Thrive, even though the slate offered many unique features not found in other tablets.
The company hasn’t given up, though, soon after announcing the 7 inch Thrive 7, which is pretty good, especially since it’s smaller and its thickness is not as much of a problem as it is on the 10 inch model. And just recently, they’ve gotten serious and set for release the Excite, a pretty impressive 10 inch tablet, both visually and specs-wise.

Once an ugly duckling, but now - as of version 3 - a social-network-aware swan, Facebook is a triumph. The revised grid-based ‘home screens’ provide speedy access to regularly visited sections (news feed, notifications, and so on) and pages, and the experience is such that it in many ways beats the browser version.
It’s imperfect and annoyingly lacks push notifications, but Skype is still an essential download. The interface is pleasingly simple and usable, enabling anyone with a Skype account to make free calls to other Skype users and cheap calls to anywhere in the world. If you’re on Pay and Go, this is particularly handy, but the app also enables iPod touch users to utilise their devices for calls.
Pretty much from nowhere, Gorillacam arrived in December 2009 from the creators of the Gorillapod tripods. It mashes together a slew of features to hugely improve an iPhone’s camera (timer, multi-shot, spirit-level, on-screen grid, ‘press anywhere’ capture), meaning you can bin a half-dozen standalone apps that offer similar things. RunKeeper The prospect of Nike+ but better and for free might sound unlikely, but that’s what RunKeeper provides. Previously split into ‘pro’ and ‘free’ versions, the developer now generously includes all the features in one free app. That means you can spend no money, yet use your iPhone’s GPS capabilities to track your jogging and cycling routes, and examine mapping and details of your pace and calories burned. Activities can be shared online, and treadmill runs and other exercise details can be entered manually. Stanza Kindle’s grabbed many ‘electronic book’ headlines, but an iPhone or iPod touch is a perfectly competent alternative - at least if you have the right app to hand. Stanza enables you to download books from various sources (many of which offer free titles), and you can transfer your own ePub, PDF or eReader titles from the free Stanza Desktop. Dropbox Plenty of apps exist for transferring content between your computer and your device, but Dropbox is free and easier to use than most of its contemporaries. Dump files you want to sync in a folder on your computer and Dropbox for your device will enable you to access them, download them for offline viewing, and, in many cases, view them.
Movies Although some aspects of cinema listings app Movies are disappointingly US-centric (notably regarding details on upcoming movies and DVDs), it succeeds where it matters. Select a film and the app figures out where you’re located, lists nearby cinemas, and displays times your chosen film is showing. Efficiency can be further increased by pinning favourite cinemas to the top of the list. TonePad Virtual pianos and guitars are all very well, but purely digital musical toys are more suited to Apple handhelds. TonePad is the best of them, using a grid-based interface that enables you to turn notes on and off and compose pleasing and harmonious loops; your creations can be edited, saved and uploaded to share with other users. Twitter (formerly Tweetie) Tweetie was the iPhone Twitter client that other iPhone Twitter clients wanted to be. Its combination of polished interface, plentiful options and multi-account support meant everyone loved it - apart from cheapskates, because Tweetie wasn’t free. Now, however, it is, because Twitter bought it, rebranded it as Twitter, and set fire to the price tag. Comics In all honesty, Comics is a little awkward compared to using it on an iPad, but you won’t find a better comics experience on an iPhone. The app is free, as are dozens of downloadable comics - and once you run out of those, many more are available to buy. Reading works on a frame-by-frame automated ‘zoom’ basis, and is surprisingly usable.

There are many Twitter apps on Android - and Twitter itself shook up the scene with the launch of its own-brand app recently - but we’re sticking with Seesmic. Offering support for multiple accounts, a home page widget showing latest tweets and an incredibly slick and professional design, it’s one of the finest examples of app development out there today.
The social media darling Foursquare is represented in fine form on Android, with the Google app offering easy one-click check-ins, integrated Google Maps for a seamless Googlebranded experience and home page shortcut options to all your favourite places.
Facebook for Android Facebook for Android is lacking in features compared to Facebook itself, but a recent update added Inbox support to the Android app, finally allowing its users to communicate in almost real time. The app’s fast and stable, with a simplicity that reminds you of the old days when using Facebook used to be bearable.
ASTRO File Manager ASTRO is nothing more than a Windows-style file explorer, but if you’re into tinkering and directly installing Android APK files yourself, it’s essential to stick something like this on your phone. It makes your phone feel like a computer, and makes you feel like you’re in charge of it.
WordPress for Android WordPress for Android started out as independent creation wpToGo, before WordPress decided it liked it so much it bought it up - hiring the maker to develop it in-house. It’s very feature-packed, with the latest version offering full integration with other apps, letting you spin content and send it directly to the app for easy updating. It could do with more image insertion tools, though.
Google Goggles A bit of a novelty, in that Google Goggles lets you take photos and have Google analyse them and come back with a search results page for what it thinks you’re looking at. However, the app’s main use is as a QR code reader, which lets you scan barcodes for quick access to apps and whatever data people choose to embed in the odd little data squares.
Hotmail Microsoft has teamed up with developer SEVEN to offer an official Hotmail app for Android, which gives users a simple, clean interface, push notification support and even lets you manage multiple Hotmail accounts from within the app. If your email needs haven’t yet been assimilated by Google, it’s a useful option.

Evernote After the Android version of Dropbox, the next best solution for keeping all your ‘business’ in one place is Evernote - which lets you stash and sync all your text notes, voice memos and files on your phone and access them through a desktop computer.
Last.fm The subscription-based thrills of Last.fm open up a world of music streaming on your mobile. You have to ‘buy in’ to the odd Last.fm way of organising things and suggesting new music, but if you’re easily led and not restricted by bandwidth it’s a superb tool.

Readers also voted the city as one of the safest and cleanest in the country.
Miami It’s the forefather of American snowbird vacations, and dazzles visitors with its mojitos and good-looking locals. While the Florida city staged a major comeback from last year’s No. 15 position, it’s still a little daunting to some travelers. Miami ranked as one of the noisiest and most expensive cities, and it took the title for having the nation’s worst drivers.

Orlando, FL According to voters, winter is the best time of year to come here - whether you get the kids out of school, or if you just want to chat up Mickey on your own. Indeed, in the No. 1 city for family vacations, winter means shorter lines at the theme parks - with the exception of the weeks right around Christmas and New Year’s. Voters also gave the area high marks for its variety of hotel options.
Salt Lake City This year, the Utah city slid seven spots from last year’s winning position. Even so, it’s still a prime hub for skiing, in part because you can stay downtown and drive a half hour to the slopes. During winter, you’ll also save a lot of money by staying in the city - one way that Salt Lake won the silver in affordability. Voters indicated, however, that you can skip the city’s ethnic food, which came in last place.

Valentine’s Day is a big draw in this charming city - no surprise, since Savannah came in second place for February 14 visits, and first for romantic getaways. Otherwise, winter is low season in this history - rich city, with thinner crowds and lower prices.
