ENSURING YOU CAN ACCESS OUR CAMPUS, CURRICULUM, TEACHING, LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT
We embrace diversity through our Inclusive and Accessible Teaching and Learning Framework, which reflects our commitment to ensuring our teaching and assessments meet the needs of all of our students. If you experience a disability, medical condition or specific learning difficulty (for example, dyslexia), we strongly recommend that you contact us as soon as you have confirmation that you’ll be joining us. This way, you can start off your time here well prepared, by ensuring that we are aware of your support requirements.

We know that many of our students do not have the support of their families at university and that this can create barriers to success. We have some of the very best and award-winning support in place for both care leavers and care experienced students (for example, if you have been in foster care or a residential unit) and for estranged students (students who have little, no, or a negative relationship with both parents).
We work nationally with organisations such as the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers and Stand Alone to support students, whether that be financial help and applying for student loans, accommodation and homelessness, emotional support or working with your local authority or support worker to ensure your success at university. Azeem Amir, has been blind since birth; he has no sight in his right eye but light perception in his left, and he admits his opportunities were limited growing up.
That hasn’t stopped him though, with Azeem following his passions to play football from a grassroots level to becoming a member of the England squad, all in just a few years. While studying on his degree BSc Business Management with Sport at Salford, he took part in the Launch programme with his business Learn with ESS.
Learn with ESS is an initiative that uses education, sport and speaking (ESS) based activities to provide a unique and interactive team building experience whilst addressing stigmatised issues surrounding disability.
Learn with ESS aims to change and reshape perceptions within society towards a more unified and inclusive future for all.
Azeem represented the University of Salford in 2020 at Santander’s first ever Santander Emerging Entrepreneurs event, competing with 82 other startups for grant funding on their Santander Universities business programme.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Azeem successfully launched Learn with ESS and has actively been engaging with schools to teach children and young people about disability within sports.

TRANSFORMING PRODUCTS AND IMPROVING PRACTICE IN HUMAN MOVEMENT AND REHABILITATION
Salford’s Human Movement and Rehabilitation team works with industry across the globe to improve the lives of people with mobility problems. This ranges from people who have difficulty walking and rely on gait analysis to inform diagnosis and treatment, to the millions of workers who stand for long periods at work and suffer musculoskeletal pain and to the survivors of stroke, for whom regaining limb movement is key to their daily activities.
In addressing these issues, Salford’s research led to the first major update to clinical gait analysis methods in 40 years. Impacting the work of 1,000 clinical laboratories worldwide, some 80% of the global sector; our research challenged the occupational footwear sector’s focus on accident prevention, redirecting it toward footwear to protect musculoskeletal health. This resulted in a new company, strategy and products (>60,000 sold) and the production of a patented rehabilitation technology that provides high quality, physical therapy without the need for highly skilled staff; resulting in a spin-out company in China, investment of £2,000,000 and 1,350 patients benefiting in its first 18 months.
MAINSTREAMING URBAN AGRICULTURE: BRINGING THE BENEFITS OF FOOD GROWING TO CITIES
Urban Agriculture, the practice of cultivating and producing food in cities, is growing in importance in terms of sustainability. The practice offers substantial social, economic and environmental benefits for communities, such as job creation, improving mental health and greening neighbourhoods. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding sustainable models, models for upscaling and best practices to implement Urban Agriculture. Researchers at Salford have pioneered the implementation of upscaled Urban Agriculture, leading to creation of the largest urban farm in the UK and a wide range of other assets.
Our research has also highlighted the value of the concept in decision-making processes and supported policy change to enable wider-scale application of the practice. In doing so, we have directly enabled £2,500,000 in funding for the practice so far and secured government commitment for a further £8,000,000 to mainstream the concept in the UK. Salford’s research has been instrumental in creating jobs, shaping environments, influencing policy and effecting behaviour change, which has enabled the Urban Agriculture concept to flourish at scale.

“
The University of Salford seems to be the most responsive in terms of making enquiries, and also I had a mentor then that was always following up with me when I was back home in Nigeria.”
Blessing Godwin-Ativie, MSc Digital Business
“ I had the opportunity to join the Global Business Challenge. My team had students from universities in Ecuador, Finland and America. We worked on a live project for a company, looking for ways to learn how they can drive their business growth and their customer retention. So what we were doing was finding tools and ways to analyse the business’s current situation and find ways they can improve. I was on a sub team in charge of the market analysis.”
Nkeiru Okeke, MSc Accounting and Finance
“
There was a lot of theory that I learnt during my degree that was applicable day-to-day during the internship, because it was just so relevant. During one of my assignments I touched upon business improvement methodologies, and when I started at Siemens, they were using the same ideas! My manager was impressed that I already knew some of the basis of what they were teaching me.”
Ryan Snape MSc International Business
“
I chose this university because of the programme specifications, and also the accreditation with CIPS. For my particular field, it’s very important to have this accreditation. Also Manchester is a very nice city to live in.”

MSC DIGITAL MARKETING STUDENT SNEHA KARUNAKARAN SHARES WITH US HER TIME AT SALFORD, HER INDUSTRY PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE AND HER TOP TIPS FOR STUDENTS.
THE SALFORD EXPERIENCE
My course, MSc Digital Marketing is covered over five modules, it doesn’t focus on just one area of the business and hence I will have exposure to all the segments of Digital Marketing. The final module, the Industry Collaboration Project, makes the University stand apart from its competitors and allows you to complete a paid placement as part of your final module.
MY PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE
I was placed with Self Storage Tameside as a Digital Marketing Intern, managing two of their important websites: Storage Stockport and Storage Oldham. I would call myself lucky, and the careers and employability team were very hard working and persistent in getting me this opportunity.
Having found a paid placement during a pandemic and in my area of interest is more than I could have asked for and it is the University’s careers team that I have to thank. Right from reviewing my CV to setting up interviews, taking feedback, to all the guidance and help that the team provided was commendable.
PLACEMENT HIGHLIGHTS
The best part about the placement was that I still got to work from the office, meet new people and all of this while following the government’s COVID-19 guidelines. I was able to use the best-in-class Digital Marketing tools. I had a daily meeting with the owner of the company in which we prioritised the tasks of the day, looked at what revenue we had made and tweaked the strategies we had in place for the next day. During a typical day at work, I was tasked with writing blog posts, creating new webpages, managing the website content, PPC and more. I enjoyed going to work and taking on new challenges. There are plenty of people out there who absolutely love their careers, and today I can proudly say I am one of them!
MOULDED FOR THE JOB MARKET
On day one of this course, I was given a task and asked to do a presentation in front of a class of 30 students - yes, 30 eager and intellectual students! I was quite nervous at first, but I absolutely nailed it! Writing assignments, working in groups, writing blog posts and researching topics have all helped me develop my skills. The course has helped me enhance and apply my skills such as time management, decision making, planning and organising projects and group work, which is an essential part of being an extraordinary employee in today’s competitive job market. After having this placement and gaining the knowledge and experience with the help of my supervisors, I’m sure that life after university is going to be a fun ride.
TOP TIPS FOR INQUISITIVE MINDS
The time at hand is limited so try to make the utmost use of it, have fun but keep an open mind. Ask questions, connect with people as much as you can. Create achievable milestones. Get your social media profiles such as LinkedIn and Twitter updated. Create a CV that is smart and tweak it for every job you apply for based on the job description. Make new friends and try to learn a new thing every day.
I would recommend the University of Salford to everybody who truly values being a part of a splendid community and would love to experience togetherness. The University is my home and it could be yours too!

The support network from the tutors was fantastic. Being so far from university, I used email as a point of contact and I could always guarantee that my email would be responded to quickly. This course allowed me to formulate a module to cater for my specific needs. I would definitely recommend this course.”
Claire Johnson, MSc Advanced Medical Imaging
“ I chose to study at the University of Salford as it was the only university in the UK offering Media Psychology. The energy, enthusiasm, knowledge and encouragement of the lecturers was absolutely brilliant. I really enjoyed working on an interactive TV study with the BBC, which formed the basis of my dissertation. The opportunity to apply knowledge gained with an industry partner is one of the strongest selling points for the course.”
Allie Jones, MSc Media Psychology

Being able to interact with other healthcare professionals on the programme taught me to holistically assess my patient. The degree taught me knowledge and the lecturers taught me how to treat my patients with compassion, love and dignity. The MSc helped me expand my horizons.”
Fani Mela, MSc Diabetes Care
“
The programme is run by world leaders in their research areas. The knowledge and experience that they will provide you with can either impact your current practice immediately or set you up for when you get a full-time role. I am now a Physical Performance Coach with the FA, a role in which I support England national teams during training and across international tournaments. This came about due to a funded PhD with the FA, also undertaken at Salford, and the master's programme set a really strong foundation for that as it allowed me to develop from both a practical coaching perspective and with conduction applied research.”
Matthew Cuthbert, MSc Strength and Conditioning
“
A challenging yet very enjoyable and enlightening course. Coming from a medical background, the most important take home was gaining a broadened view of health, through learning about the social determinants of health and how important they are.”
Miriam Bamidele, MSc Public Health

Matthew Riley, MSc Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy
“
My favourite piece of work has to be engaging in my placement. The University supported me in finding a placement with a client group that I am passionate about working with. I thoroughly enjoy getting stuck in and learning as I go.”
Leah Lowe, MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies (Professional Training)

We print the guide as far in advance of the start of the academic year as possible, to give you an idea of what is available and plenty of time to consider your options. However, this means that changes to the guide content will inevitably arise. This guide is therefore not intended to provide a definitive statement of the courses and facilities available at the University of Salford.
Before deciding to apply, please go to our website for the most up-to-date and detailed course information salford.ac.uk
Alternatively, contact us on +44 (0)161 295 4545 or enquiries@salford.ac.uk

Changes to our courses and facilities for the wellbeing of our students, staff and the wider community may be required and we will continue to adhere to any national, regional or local restrictions should they arise. We also reserve the right to change the information about our courses and facilities in this guide at any time. Reasons for such changes include, for example:
/ Our need to withdraw or change a course or module because we have insufficient student numbers or funding to run it viably or to give the appropriate educational experience.
/ We have to respond to unforeseen circumstances outside our control (such as requirements of any governmental, regulatory or professional bodies
or the introduction of any new or modified laws or regulations).
/ We are required to comply with any public health guidance or rules to protect the wellbeing of our students, staff and wider community.
/ We think the changes are desirable to improve or maintain quality or will enhance the student experience or be otherwise beneficial to students.
We aim to give students and applicants who have accepted offers as much notice as possible of any withdrawals of, or significant changes to, courses or modules or our facilities and to take all reasonable steps to minimise any disruption.
However, it may not always be practicable for us to give advance notice of changes where we have to respond to an emergency or adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. Students whose courses are adversely affected by any significant unforeseeable change will have the right to switch courses or, in the absence of any suitable alternative, to leave the University and transfer to another provider. Such changes during studies should only happen in very exceptional circumstances. Where they do happen, we will, as far as we are able, assist students with the practicalities of switching.
We make every effort to ensure that all changes we make to courses and facilities are detailed on our website as soon as is reasonably practical.
In the event of any inconsistencies between information in this guide and on the website, information held on the website will prevail.
Some courses may have additional fees associated with them, for example for specific materials or field trips. We won’t know the exact amount of these additional fees until closer to the time that they are required. Where appropriate, we have therefore provided an indication of the additional fees required based on costs available at the time of publication (August 2022).
