NOTION WORKSHOP BY KHADIJA RASHIDALLY

Since so many of my fellow board members always had questions about Notion they had encouraged me to host a workshop on it and what a better time than at the start of a new semester - during Welcome Back Week as one of the several planned events! As a precursor, Notion is a platform that is often used as a digital planner, small-business workspace, or bullet journal. I absolutely LOVE Notion and use it as a dashboard for tracking almost everything I do or have to do. And so, leading this workshop was SO fun for me! I had a chance to share how Notion, while it looks intimidating, is much more user friendly and intuitive. I also had a chance to share resources on template guides to give a starting point for those still hesitant, cool widgets to boost their Notion, and resources to make it truly personable to them. I even had time at the end to show my personal Notion dashboard and how I use it in conjunction with Google Calendar for the productivity streamline that best works for me personally. Most of the members I think found it useful, and some expressed they were motivated to figure out what works for them using Notion. I really appreciate everyone who was able to attend and it being right after a single service meant even more to me.

UNLV CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL

I will probably always get anxious, nervous, and hesitant when sharing things that I am super fixated on such as my Notion - honestly it's kinda scary because I always think that no one really cares so having my friends there meant so much to me. It honestly was a chance for me to become a better speaker and share a bit of what I know to my peers. I really appreciated it and think it would definitely be something I would be willing to do again in the future.

ASTROLOGY WORKSHOP BY KAY WALGATE

During Welcome Back Week, Samia held an astrology workshop and it was super fun!! They talked about the different signs and planets, including traits and desires of the different signs. Then, we took a test and looked at circle charts for our signs as they explained it, I was kinda confused LOL but overall I enjoyed learning more about my sign and other signs that mine get along with well~ You can tell everyone was really excited to learn about their signs (myself included), we definitely laughed and talked a lot that night and it was just a nice experience overall. <3

VALENTINE'S GRAHAMS SINGLE SERVICE BY KAYLA ZAVALA I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that came!! There were a lot of people which I really appreciated but we only ended up needing like 8 people, but nonetheless it was really fun! The little roses were irritating me because one rose was wrapped around the rest so trying to untangle all of them was a mess. The goodie bags turned out really cute and the little letters were my favorite! They were so freaking cute and we sold a good chunk of the grams! Also that day I made more bouquets than I did anything else lol.

DESERT OASIS JANUARY DCM + PRESENTATION SOCIAL BY KHADIJA RASHIDALLY

UNLV CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL

This Desert Oasis DCM was truly one for the history books. It was Vanessa's first DCM as LTG once again and she made her mark by doing a Presentation Social inspired by TikTok. For those of you who were unable to attend, I think it definitely needs to be documented what happened. Some of the featured presentations included Vanessa's about UNLV's EBoard if we were all guys - Chad my alter-ego eventually came back to haunt me at this past DCM but ya know... he's not that BAD looking... LOL Dana's presentation was about the UNLV E/ABoard in a zombie apocalypse which honestly was very very accurate and I will definitely refer back to it in case of any apocalyptic events in the future. Samia's presentation was about UNLV E/ABoard's aesthetics and while I would have to say I think Samia read me like a book... I do think I have a new Notion theme for next semester as a result. My presentation was a murder mystery set after the DCM and who would help me hide the body of our fellow loved UNLV ABoard member - Yafet Kelati (Disclaimer - No Yafet's were harmed in the making of my presentation except maybe his feelings a bit after seeing the pictures I put...) and I have to say was pretty well planned out. And finally the winner of the night, our very own UNLV CKI VPA Nelly Navarro, literally CARRIED the night with her presentation of UNLV E/ABoard's kin assignments... which honestly left me in awe of how accurate and detailed they were. She truly is the expert and her cute slides left no other option besides for me to vote for her. The night was truly one to remember and Vanessa - thank you for blessing us with this opportunity. It resulted in many fun laughs afterwards and we definitely wanted to do it again in our club.

CROCHET WORKSHOP BY GINA OLIVARES

I hosted a crochet workshop in January where I wanted to teach others the basics of crocheting. I was extremely nervous about it, but the turnout was really good! Most of the people that attended were able to physically learn how to start a crocheting piece and the basic stitch. Everyone was so nice and really put their effort into learning and seemed to have a good time practicing. Sadly I was a few hooks short so some people had to share, but overall it was fun teaching others and hosting a workshop. I would love to do part 2 of it, but who knows loll.

This was my favorite workshop! ( I loved everyone else’s don’t get me wrong but I’ve been meaning to learn how to crochet LOL) Gina taught us like 4 steps I think? I’m not sure I was stuck on the first two steps for forty-five minutes LOL. I was really struggling with the knot because my brain wasn’t functioning properly and then I was struggling with using the hook to pull string through the loops so I spent thirty minutes using my fingers which was not it but oh well I’m a snail when it comes to this stuff. Eventually towards the end I got better at using the hook so I’m hoping that I can get better because I really want to make my own clothes so I can save money LOL. Also we were also taught this one step that is important to crocheting but I can’t remember what it’s called it why it’s important but I do know that that’s the next thing that I need to so I hope that Gina does another workshop so I can continue learning. 🤠

Okay, elections were so scary. I’ll admit that my first speech was not the best, but I think I did really well on my second speech! I felt a lot more confident then the first speeches because that was the first time in like two years that I’ve done public speaking so understandably I was pretty shaky. Janel said I sounded a lot more confident, which thank you that made me feel a lot better. And thank you to everyone who voted me as secretary! I’m honored and happy to represent our club for the 2022-2023 term! On another note that same night I got elected I got food poisoning so maybe not the best day but it was still a good day! :D

ELECTIONS BY KAYLA ZAVALA

UNLV CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL

The Desert Oasis & Foothill Joint DCM was honestly more fun than I had initially expected. Both divisions had a good amount of people join in virtually, and it was amazing to get to know some new faces I had not met before! The DCM was also part of a Foothill division event called Foothill Fever where they were having a service marathon and hearing about the clubs at Foothill, how they were doing, and their division updates was really great! Meanwhile, Desert Oasis had multiple updates from Vanessa (our LTG) as well and she had even let me include a small introduction to myself as incoming Desert Oasis LTG for this upcoming term! But honestly the true most memorable moment of the night was the beautiful wedding between Desert Oasis LTG Vanessa and Foothill LTG Ping. It is a recent tradition for the Desert Oasis and Foothill LTGs to have a "wedding" and the night of the February DCM was dramatic - as to be expected. Since it was Vanessa's second term as LTG, it was expectedly heart wrenching to watch Vanessa divorce Emily to marry Ping. The ceremony was still gorgeous with a picturesque church and Ryan Tan shining in his yellow sun costume as the minister of the night. Unfortunately soon it was time for us to say our goodbyes but honestly it was a great event and truly a memorable DCM to end on prior to DCON.

DESERT OASIS X FOOTHILL JOINT DCM BY KHADIJA RASHIDALLY

UNLV CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL

ROCK N ROLL MARATHON SERVICE BY KHADIJA RASHIDALLY The Rock N Roll Marathon is an annual event in Downtown Las Vegas set up by the Ironman Foundation and always has multiple Kiwanis branches attending to help out! This year was the first year back after Covid-19 which made it even more of an unexpected event for the community. UNLV CKI was helping with the half marathon that was on Sunday February 27th and had 20,000 expected runners. We were set up at the very last water station which was #7 along with another UNLV organization called UNLV AMSA as well as with Spring Valley Key Club. I had gotten there mid-afternoon to help set up and it was definitely hectic at first since we had thought our station was short staffed, but after the chaos subsided and all the tables, tablecloths, and trash bins were set up it was much calmer. We had 20 tables set up at 5 separate "water monsters" which were giant tubs of water dispensers so beginning to fill the tables with water cups seemed like a lot at the time. We filled each layer of water cups using the hoses and pitchers to transfer water until we staw the first racers nearby.

UNLV CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL

It was about 34 minutes after the race started and we had multiple layers filled with water cups on each table. Honestly we had thought it wasn't going to be enough but even after the bulk of the crowd had cleared our first 10-15 tables of water we still had a significant amount left. During the race we cheered runners, filled more cups, and got to know some of the other members at our station. It was a super fun time honestly, and by the end we were exhausted. We began clearing up all the materials and dispose of the remaining water cups while the last runners came by around 9:00 PM. A lot of our members ended up really enjoying the event from those who were there experiencing it for the first time to those who had helped the Rock N Roll marathon years ago with Key Club or other organizations in high school. It truly was a time to remember, and honestly from my VPS perspective it was an amazing event to end the term with. We had taken a couple group photos before departing but despite it being a very long night, I was so happy and incredibly proud of the club.

ROCK N ROLL MARATHON SERVICE BY KAYLA ZAVALA

Rock n Roll was super fun! My feet hurt and me and Kristina had to walk really far because we couldn’t find parking but we made it LOL. On another note a lot of the runners wore really cool/funny outfits, these 2 runners were wearing flamingo costumes and another one was a giant teddy bear costume! Towards the end there were a lot of people and I got hungry so me and Khadija got pizza (which was really good) and we took a break for a bit. After we got back to work but I was so cold and my legs started getting numb and I wished I wore better pants but it was fun and the people from amsa were really nice! We filled up a bunch of cups and stuff but we had to dump them at the end because we had a bunch left over. The most memorable thing was probably these two runners that I saw, one who stopped by our table and said that since volunteers were doing such a good job here's to you! And he blew a party horn! He was really nice, I hope he’s having a good day. The other one was the very last runner, she was a little old lady and she was nice, we offered her water but she said no. I'm hoping she was hydrated. That’s it from me! I would totally volunteer again next year! :)
