Greetings,
Wow, what a nice few weeks we have had with the sunshine, crisp mornings, and fall colors reinforcing why Cooper Landing is the gem of the Kenai Peninsula. It also means that winter is coming quickly so play hard and get ready for our next season.
Ravn air is branching out into Northern Pacific Airlines. They are applying for approval to fly to South Korea and Japan. When they receive this approval, they will be flying to these countries direct to and from Anchorage. The result for us is that this will generate winter travelers who want to play in the snow and see the Northern Lights. Cooper Landing is a great playground for winter activities, and it would be nice to benefit in the winter from this new tourist revenue. Please keep this in mind so that when the bypass is complete, we can work to make Cooper Landing a destination spot for summer and winter.
Thank you everyone who supported the Youth Group in their summer raffle. They are close to their goal of raising enough money for their trip in April. It was a great experience for our young community members in working hard to approach people to sell tickets, communicate with others, and the excitement of seeing the success of their efforts. Congratulations to the winners of prizes and all those who donated in addition to purchasing a ticket. Thank you to Alaska Mint, Alaska Rivers Company, Best Route Productions, Cooper Landing Cookie Lady, and L’ook Beadwork for donating gifts for the raffle.
Cooper Landing is a “GEM” and your Chamber is here to help our businesses and community. Watch for those membership renewals and Upper Kenai Guide advertisements renewals. If you want to update your advertisements, now is the time to get them done so we can have them ready for the final draft. Watch out for the ghosts and goblins roaming around on Halloween.
Thank you,

The month of September flew by. Students have enjoyed the nice fall days and playing soccer on the field. We are thrilled to welcome Sherry Dillion, our new K-3 teacher to the team. She comes to us from Soldotna and is excited to be here. We would also like to welcome our new teacher’s aide, Ms. Megan. Both are a great addition to our team.
As September ends we begin to prepare for the cold fall. We now need to wear warmer jackets and gloves as the playground is getting frosty, burr! Our 4-8th graders have been practicing their Lynx Ball skills, a game made up by them a few years ago. The main goal of the game is to get the ball into the opposite team’s goal by throwing it to your teammates, once you catch the ball you can only take three steps before passing it to a teammate, a goalie has a certain area that they can stand in to block the goal. The players (not including the goalies) arent allowed to step in, while the goalies can’t step out.
Meanwhile our K-3 students have been working on drawing, counting, and writing skills with the help of our new teacher Ms. Dillon. They also made some fun leaf art projects where they collected a variety of different colored leaves and used them to shape and design animals.

Meet Haddie! Haddie is our new kindergartener, she loves all the colors of the rainbow and her favorite animal is a Unicorn. As winter approaches she can’t wait to play in the snow, but when it’s too cold to go outside, she’ll happily play her favorite board game called Candy Land. We’re so glad to have a new addition to our school.

Thank you to all who attended our September meeting and those organizations who updated us on their latest activities and plans. It was the first time we used our OWL system for the Zoom connection for the meeting, and it definitely improved the quality of our gathering. We appreciate the Kenai Community Foundation for providing us this grant that allowed us to purchase this much needed communication equipment, and Melissa Brennan and David Story for their technical expertise in setting it up!
On October 6th, the Cooper Landing Trails committee is having a meeting at the Brewery to discuss trail maintenance, trail grooming preparations and updates on ongoing projects. It is also the last day to sign up for the Cooper Landing Wood Pile Contest. Judging will take place on Sunday, October 8th, and the winner of the Best Woodpile plaque made by our beloved Rabbit and a Sthil Chainsaw donated by Craig Taylor of Soldotna will be announced on October 9th. Watch the Crier for more information on both these events.
Our next meeting will be held Thursday, November 16th. We have 3 submissions for seats on our board, meeting the number of seats open, so an election will not need to be held prior to that gathering. We are excited to announce our new board members at this meeting. Wishing you all a wonderful October as we head into our winter months!
Sincerely,
Yvette, Melissa, Lorraine, Ruth & Sandra
