It would be impossible to list all of the volunteers that make this town so special and beautiful so be sure to give thanks to those that you see helping lend a hand!
As the season is winding down, we would like to recognize a few of the volunteers that make this town so wonderful.
Thank you, Julie and John Almanrode, for all the upkeep on the hall. It looks great! Also, a giant thanks to “Walking” Roger Elkins for running the Recycling Center. Roger walks down to the Center every day to organize the recycling and to make sure that others have not thrown trash in the recycling. He bags the recycling and keeps the place looking great! Please thank him, give him a high-five, or buy him a tasty beverage next time you see him. It is a lot of hard work! He is also looking for help too. If you are willing to help, please reach out to him at 907-394-7259. He mostly just needs people to take the recycling to town so let him know if you are going and have room. Thanks to the folks that have been helping take the recycling to town: Patrick McBride, JJ Brown, and Amy Brodersen.
Thank you Josi Lewis and Alaska River Adventures for providing the flowers at the Community Hall and the Library. With all the sun and rain this year they really look spectacular.
Cooper Landing Community Club
Thank you to Riley Shurtleff and Clay Adam who have worked to outfit the community with new equipment and to organize the State of Alaska Training Trailer and other opportunities. Thank you to all the CLES volunteers who keep learning and working to keep us all safe.
Thank you, Russ Taylor, for mowing Helen Rhode Park and helping mow the ball field. Thank you, Maura Schumacher and the Kenai Watershed Forum, for arranging the volunteers to pull invasive species at Helen Rhode Park among other places in town. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped pull the weeds and to Cooper Landing Brewing Company for providing free drinks after the weed pull.
Thank you Volunteers

As most of you know, we have been plagued with septic issues over the past months. We recently had the entire system checked with a camera to find any issues and I am happy to report that no significant findings were noted. I would like to remind all residents that paper towels, Kleenex, sani wipes and any other items are prohibited from being flushed into the septic system. Toilet paper is the ONLY item that can safely be flushed. If we strictly abide by this rule, it will hopefully eliminate the need to spend thousands of dollars on costly repairs. It will allow us more opportunity to tackle some much needed preventive maintenance that has been postponed due to these more pressing issues. I never dreamed I would be paying over $6 per gallon for diesel fuel for my truck and much more for routine household items, groceries and building materials. I realize all of you have been impacted with these increases in cost of living as well as recent rental increases. The LAST thing we want to do is raise rent, but with some of these recurrent maintenance issues as well as the cost of building materials to make units ready for new residents as well as on going repairs, we had no choice. I do NOT want to revisit this issue and we must be vigilant in containing costs as much as we possibly can during these turbulent times. We are always available for emergency situations, and I would like to give a big SHOUT OUT to Mona for tackling some of these septic issues over the past months. They seem to arise on weekends or holidays when I or others were not available, and she was able to expeditiously get someone out to make the necessary repairs! THANK YOU MONA!!!! As we move toward winter, I encourage each of you to get out and enjoy the summer weather while it lasts. I look forward to continue serving as your BOD President over the coming year. If you ever have any needs or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to any board member. If I haven’t met you, I encourage each of you to attend the next scheduled board meeting.
Best regards, Clay Adam, President, CLSCCI BOD Lawn Activity!
By Clay Adam On behalf of the Board of Directors for CLSCCI, I hope that all of you are enjoying this beautiful summer weather! The drought has finally been interrupted with some much needed rainfall over the past few weeks. The raised garden beds look amazing and several of you obviously have a very green thumb! What a sight to behold! I hope many of you can put away some fresh vegetables for the upcoming winter season.
President’s Corner
Thank you to Clay Adam and the great team of workers from CLES who completely restored the Community Garden in one day! Thank you to Brigitte DeAngelis and Shirley Wilmoth who helped with the lunch for Clay’s crew on May 24.
About the pictures: Thank you to Greg Staser for the maintenance at Ravens View like staining the exterior beams! Thank you to Connie Loveall for taking charge of the Community Garden and cleaning and beautifying around Ravens View.
