Cooper Landing Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center
Dear Members, Are you enjoying the hot days of summer? They are definitely hot so our threat for fire is out there. Please enjoy the days but be respectful if you have any camping fires or barbeques that might be a potential for a fire. The days are flying by and we are celebrating the Fourth of July already. Please start thinking about renewing your Chamber membership and any updates to your advertisement in our Upper Kenai River Guide. Those bills will be going out in two months. Put a reminder in your calendar. As we celebrate the founding of our country and the freedoms that the founding fathers established centuries ago, don’t take those for granted. They fled to an unknown world to escape persecution and overreach from their governments and fought to establish a country like no other. The world hasn’t changed much and people are still fleeing to this country for the promise of those freedoms, as we still have this precious gift. Please respect the gift of freedom of speech, right to bear arms, and others which are under attack. Utilize the gift of voting to make your voices heard and respect the choices of your neighbors, but always think of the goals those men hundreds of years ago were trying to reach for all of us so many years later. I take pride in being able to put into writing my thoughts and share with you. It is a freedom not to take lightly and fighting to keep. Enjoy the day with friends and family.

Cooper Landing Emergency Services Outfitted for Anything: Responding as a State of the Art Agency New Apparatus Arrives at Cooper Landing Emergency Services Nestled in the heart of Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula is a small volunteer fire and rescue agency. Cooper Landing Emergency Services (CLES) has operated since 1973 providing ambulance, extrication and fire services to the Cooper Landing Community and along the Seward and Sterling Highways. The agency serves both locals and visitors, all those who travel by road to the Kenai. When called upon, CLES responds for both fire and ambulance mutual aid to the communities of Hope-Sunrise and Moose Pass. This creates a geographical district that includes over 90 miles of highway corridor, corresponding side roads and trail systems. Now after two years of fundraising and new opportunities, the volunteer, non-profit department is welcoming two new apparatus to respond to calls in this huge territory. A 2022 Frazer/ Ford-F450 Ambulance that replaces a 2002, and a 2022 Fouts Bros./ Ford F550 Quick Attack truck that replaces a 1982 Mini Pumper. With thanks to many in the process, these new vehicles will provide state of the art service to patients and people within the great Kenai Peninsula Community. CLES is a registered 501c3 Non-Profit that does not operate as its own Borough Service Area. For almost 50 years, the department has relied on ambulance billings, donations, grants and contracts to make up its annual budget. Through Golf Tournaments, Fillthe-Wader Fundraisers, Raffles and other means, the volunteers that make up this agency have funded the purchase of the ambulance in full and a little over 30% of
the new fire truck. The remainder of the truck is being financed through a third party company. It has taken time, perseverance, and ambition to be proactive in replacing two outdated units that have served beyond their reasonable lifespan. The 2022 Frazer Ambulance, Medic 1, is a Type 1, 4x4 diesel unit that comes equipped with the latest in modern emergency medical technology. A Power loading stretcher, automatic compression device, new EKG monitor, video intubation and ultrasound devices are all housed in a sleek vehicle that will transport Emergency Medical Personnel and patients in a comfortable ride. The 2022 Fouts Bros. Quick Attack, Engine 2, is also a 4x4 diesel, 4 man cab unit. Built to carry the department’s extrication equipment “the Jaws of Life” it is also outfitted with a 1500 gallon per minute foam system /pump and 300 gallon tank to handle car, brush and dumpster fires. Both apparatus are equipped with LED emergency and scene lighting, reinforced bumpers, and modern safety features. To make these units possible took the effort of the department’s volunteers and many individuals and businesses who made donations of time, materials, and funds throughout the acquisition process.

It takes a village to make an achievement this size possible. When you see these two bright, new units rolling to calls in the future, know that they took the support of these businesses and so many others to come to reality. If you want to Help those who would Help you on an incident in the Cooper Landing area by funding the remaining balance of the new fire truck, visit the department website at www.cooperlandinges.org to make a donation. CLES is a registered Non-Profit and all donations are considered tax deductible.
