After a fast-paced summer, things are slowing down at the Community Hall. The softball tournament started our season off well and earned the Community Club over $10,000, some of which was shared with the groups who helped with the concessions. Speaking of softball, the grass at the field looks wonderful right now thanks in part to the rain and also to Russ for mowing the lawn. Helen Rhode has looked great all summer thanks to him too. Josie and ARA planted the flowers at the Hall and Julie and John watered and cared for everything else at the Hall. It really is beautiful there right now. As always, thanks to Roger for keeping the recycling center so organized and moving all of that recycling. Thanks to Patrick, JJ and Amy for hauling the recycling as well. Roger is still looking for helpers so reach out to him or the Community Club if you would like to volunteer.
Bookings were back up this summer after a few slow years and we already have several bookings for next summer. If you are thinking of having an event next summer you should start thinking about booking.
We will soon fill the maintenance job at the Hall. Look for our ad coming in the crier if you would like to apply.
Revenue sharing is available and if your organization would like to participate, please contact us.

Cooper Landing Lynx News
Cooper Landing School continued with its 15th annual Upper Kenai River fishing trip. The trip originated in 2008 when a grant was received from the Future Fisherman Foundation. This grant provided fishing gear and fly/spinning rods for every student. Students were also given time to study water quality at Quartz Creek and raise baby Coho for release into Bear Lake.
This year’s float was a huge success thanks to the guides who volunteered their time as well as the good weather. Our day was a lot of fun, and we were fortunate to avoid the high water that followed the next few days. Many fish were caught and many fish stories were made up. The tradition of kissing the first fish caught was suggested, but many kids declined. However, the tradition of drinking hot chocolate and eating lots of snacks was highly popular.
Lunch on the beach is always filled with laughter! The temptation for students to wade into the water and search for salmon is always an adventure. Inevitably, someone always tops their boots and fills them with water. As always, none of this could ever happen without the support of our parents and community. Thank you to Alaska Clearwater Sportfishing, Alaska Troutfitters, Hemingway’s Alaskan Adventures,
and Kenai River Fly Fishing for taking us down the river this year. Also a big thank you to every volunteer who has ever helped with this event over the last fifteen years!
We also received a grant to visit the Van Gogh Exhibit in Anchorage. Students were dancing to the music as Van Gogh’s artwork was displayed around the room. This visual experience was stimulating and enjoyed by all as they wandered through the exhibit, amazed by what they saw. Students were eager to share their thoughts and ideas about the majestic show as they lined up for pictures with their wide smiles.
