WELCOME DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
AIR FORCE SERVICES ACTIVITY JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND TEXAS
Colonel Donna Turner Commander 2261 Hughes Ave, Ste 156 JBSA-Lackland TX 28236-9854 Force Support Squadron Leaders, Welcome to the 2019 FSS Leadership Training Workshop. The Air Force Services Center (AFSVC) looks forward to hosting you and team for an educational and engaging discussion. It is our goal to provide you with current trends in Air Force Services and Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs and practices that will enhance the leadership toolbox. Our Services team is making every effort to enable your units to execute your mission of today, with equipping you for success to achieve your new ideas tomorrow. In doing so, we will address common “Big Rocks” across the field, while giving you an opportunity to have dialogue with our subject matter experts. We will also, give you a glimpse of your peers best practices, great ideas, new programs, and UNITE ideas. We are seeking to benchmark some of your ideas Air Force wide, as well as, facilitate a healthy crosstalk for some of your ideas to the unique few. Delivering useful information within a reasonable amount of your time is what we aim to do because we understand how important you are to our teams well-being. Resiliency is cyclical, events in our lives can negatively impact our energy, emotion, and attitudes. Positive and purposeful events give us the recharge we need to continue the mission: Airmen taking care of Airmen and families. As General Goldfein stated in CSAF Focus Area #1, The Beating Heart of the Air Force… Squadrons! “Squadrons are the engines of innovation and esprit de corps. Squadrons possess the greatest potential for operational agility. Squadron commanders, civilian leaders, superintendents, and first sergeants have the most profound and lasting impact on Airmen and families.”
DONNA L. TURNER, Colonel, USAF Commander

ABOUT SAN ANTONIO SAN ANTONIO
is also known as Military City USA. San Antonio has seen a military presence for 300 years. The colonial Spanish established a fort in 1718 to protect their territory. Over time, Spanish rule declined and part of Texas belonged to Mexico. Settlers fought bloody battles for independence at the Alamo and all over south Texas. Under the Republic of Texas, the Alamo remained a vital military garrison for the defense of the city. When Texas achieved statehood, the US Army came to open an outpost and depot. Fort Sam Houston, one-third of Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), claims origins to 1845. JBSA-Lackland was established in 1942 when the War Department made it a separate installation from Kelly Field. JBSA-Randolph began as Randolph Field of the new Army Air Corps in 1930. San Antonio is home to one of the nation’s largest active and retired military populations. Over 39,000 students graduate from basic military training here each year. Other training throughout JBSA increases those numbers to 132,000 servicemen and women training here annually. The DoD’s largest medical center resides at Fort Sam Houston. Many people chose to call San Antonio home after leaving the armed forces. San Antonio River Walk
