On behalf of myself and the entire USANA Foundation team, I want to express our deepest gratitude for the enthusiastic support we have received for our many projects, particularly the Garden Tower Initiative.

Your dedication to building sustainable families has been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals, and we could not have done it without you. This year, we have seen a significant increase in the number of families benefiting from the program, and we are proud to have made a positive impact in their lives.

We are particularly proud to have provided a record 12 million meals to families in need, the most we’ve provided in any given year. Furthermore, we are thrilled to see benefits beyond food security, such as increased self-confidence, selfreliance, hope, and even new income opportunities through the sales of produce grown in Garden Towers.

We are excited to announce that this year, we are setting an ambitious goal of developing 10,000 sustainable families through the Garden Tower Initiative. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to working together to build stronger, more sustainable communities in 2023.

USANA Kids Eat

We have an amazing community!

USANA-driven and community-supported, the Kids Eat program has quickly made “USANA Health Sciences” a household name in service and nutritional support. Local businesses, families, and community members volunteer and donate their time to fill food bags for hungry children to take home for the weekends and long holiday breaks. It’s a program that deeply touches the hearts of all USANA employees, Associates, and executives involved.

This year we hosted Experience Day at USANA’s Global Convention. Over 200 Associates from around the globe participated in a day of packing at our Foundation’s onsite location. They filled 2,141 bags!

Whether it’s community volunteers delivering food bags, USANA employees packing food, adoptive sponsors funding entire schools, or donors giving dollar by dollar, this program’s success is thanks to the generosity of those who give their money and time. Local businesses see this as a great way to fulfill social responsibility, build team cohesiveness, and be involved in the community.

And it’s all thanks to the kindness of our amazing community! We’re humbled by the good they share. Honored by the generosity we see. And grateful for the support we receive. In the end, we do all this for the kids. After all, no child should ever go hungry.

Weekend Program

Many children rely on school meals for the food and nutrition they need. But these meals aren’t available on weekends, and kids often go hungry. A bag of food can go a long way for a needy child who is home from school.

Each winter we donate food bags to schools and communities to give children food and nutrition during the long holiday break.

Celebrating 30 Years with 30,000 Garden Towers

USANA’s 2022 Global Convention was a success because of your indelible service. Thank you for your help and support! We couldn’t have done it without you.

From August 17–19, the USANA Foundation celebrated the spirit of service with thousands of USANA volunteers and Associates who gathered in Salt Lake City. Together, we reached amazing milestones, improved lives, and shared an important message of hope and positivity as we worked together to tackle malnutrition worldwide.

We Reached an Incredible Goal!

In 2021, USANA CEO Kevin Guest set an ambitious goal—to fund 30,000 new Garden Towers to celebrate USANA’s 30th Anniversary.

We knew it would be challenging, but we came together and made a world of difference.

And we reached our goal! In fact, we surpassed it by raising money for 30,524 new Garden Towers to be established in Mexico, Kenya, Indonesia, the Philippines, and more. Your contributions are changing lives for families and communities in need.

Planting Seeds of Hope in Your Own Backyard

Personal Garden Towers were available for purchase for the first time at Convention, and 100% of each purchase helped to bring Garden Towers to people in need. We sold nearly 1,000 personal Garden Tower bundles so people could take them home and enjoy fresh produce grown from their backyard, patio, or even indoors!

While this opportunity was exclusive only to 2022 Global Convention in-person attendees, soon you’ll be able to purchase these personal Garden Towers online. Keep your eyes peeled and don’t miss out!

We Built Them So They’ll Grow

At our Convention booth, hundreds of Associates volunteered to help us cut, measure, and sew 400 new Garden Towers. Volunteers signed each tower they helped assemble so the families who receive it know it was made by loving hands.

And it was a fun time, too! Volunteers laughed, learned, and streamed their experience live to share our message of hope. USANA CEO Kevin Guest, USANA President Jim Brown, and teams of USANA athletes also stopped by to thread the needle for a good cause. Our deepest thanks to all who volunteered!

Packing Food for a Better World Associates also had the opportunity to sign up for USANA Kids Eat food pack events. And before Convention even started, all our time slots had been filled.

In total, we packed 2,141 bags of food (12,194 meals) to be distributed to children and teens in the Salt Lake Valley. Each meal greatly impacts these children and their families, helping us fulfill our ongoing commitment to USANA’s local community.

USANA Garden Towers are a remarkably simple invention that help families take control of their livelihoods by producing five to eight meals a week. Made from a long-lasting, durable material, each tower can hold up to 120 plants and be harvested for many years.

Garden Tower Community Sponsorship Program

Give a person a fish, they’ll eat for a day. Teach a person to garden, and the whole neighborhood gets tomatoes. It’s an old saying with a unique—but equally true—twist.

In past years, our Matching Grant Program was part of our mission to feed the world by seeking out and supporting like-minded organizations and programs. The initiative was successful and we’re beyond grateful for the support it received.

Starting in 2022 and moving forward, we’re combining this program with our Garden Tower Initiative to create the Garden Tower Community Sponsorship program. This allows anyone in the USANA family to sponsor and grow a community garden in their area. You can help by fundraising, gardening, or spreading support.

The USANA Foundation gives educational and financial resources to help keep community gardens thriving. To participate, find a community partner—such as a school, church, or other nonprofit group—and then apply.

Fundraise, Serve, and Change Your Community A Sustainable Way to Serve

Communities are faced with increasing environmental issues that could affect their health and happiness. And the families in these communities are looking for ways to confront these problems. Garden Towers have the potential to do just that.

One of the many great aspects of Garden Towers is they can be established almost anywhere— even in urban areas. They attract a variety of flora and fauna, creating a valuable green space that might otherwise be neglected, reduce land value, or be used for illegal dumping or crime.

World Service Week:

On June 12, 2022, the USANA family kicked off our fifth annual World Service Week.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in our communities both close to home and around the world. While we all do good deeds when we can, World Service Week pushes us a step further— creating unexpectedly meaningful experiences that touch the soul in surprising, and sometimes lifechanging, ways.

Sharing Hope with a Struggling Nation

On the morning of February 24, 2022, missiles and airstrikes damaged cities and crippled infrastructure across the country of Ukraine. Minutes later, Russian tanks and soldiers crossed the border in an attempt to seize eastern regions of the country and even Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital. The news spread around the globe like wildfire.

What the world thought would be an occupation of a few regions of Ukraine has exploded into a full-scale war throughout the entire country. A war that continues even today. This conflict has created a humanitarian crisis for every citizen of Ukraine. Women and children flee for refuge in neighboring countries such as Romania, Poland, and Moldova, while all Ukrainian males age 18–60 are conscripted into the military to defend against the incursion. Some estimate upwards of five million citizens have become refugees in foreign countries with little to no financial or community support.

In Romania, Children Hunger Fund’s (CHF) partner, Mercy Network, responded to this crisis by supporting a local association serving refugees at the Romania-Ukraine border and supplying resources into Ukraine itself. Community leaders are crossing the border to bring vanloads of food and medical supplies to churches and individuals in war-torn regions. With a grant of $50,000 and the help of our amazing partners at CHF, the USANA Foundation was able to deploy over 315,000 meals to Ukrainian children and families suffering in refugee camps.

Helping Those Who Have Come So Far

The Evanko family is one of many families who recently arrived in the city of Khmelnik, where CHF’s Mercy Network serves the people of their community. They fled from their homes in Kramotorsk, a city in the partially captured and occupied region in Eastern Ukraine.

For months, it was nearly impossible to evacuate the city, but they believe God finally granted them a safe escape. Along the way they found a house in a mostly evacuated village for shelter before they moved on. The family traveled over 560 miles (904 km) to find a place of safety, and they were relieved to receive food and supplies after such an arduous evacuation.

Finding Light in Dark Places

Like the Evanko family, Galyna’s family traveled a long distance to reach safety. Before the war, she lived with her husband, their two children, and her father in Kalanchak, a small town located near the isthmus of Crimea. Their town was among the first to be attacked and captured when Russian forces invaded.

They lived in their home for about three months while Russian forces occupied their town. However, it eventually became necessary to retreat to their basement. Tragically, Galyna’s husband died during this time, though she has been unable to share the details. Galyna was also pregnant before the war started—and she gave birth to her third child while living in her basement.

Miraculously, after months of hiding, Galyna and her family finally escaped their basement and the captured town. They traveled 434 miles (700 km) to Khemlnik and received help and support from CHF.

Grateful Voices from Africa

The USANA Foundation and our partners at 100 Humanitarians have been working hard to improve the food security of many communities in Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. In 2021, we had finished a small pilot project building 200 Garden Towers for 100 families. But the progress that’s happened since is truly inspiring.

After an unplanned trip to Kenya during the COVID-19 pandemic, USANA Foundation President Brian Paul witnessed the results firsthand. It was incredible to see all 200 towers were thriving and had already yielded multiple harvests.

Now, we’ve expanded the program to 5,000 Garden Towers! Plus, we’ve supplied thousands of water barrels and fencing to help keep these community gardens hydrated and protected. And still, the demand for more Garden Towers is higher than ever—and growing. We’re working tirelessly to meet it.

As the Garden Tower Initiative grows within these communities, we’ve heard incredible stories of service, personal growth, and gratitude. Here are just a few:

Providing Relief Across the Globe

Giving Global Meals Children's Hunger Fund

Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF) continues to receive contributions and support from the USANA Foundation to help fund Food Paks for families in desperate need. Some countries helped are Romania, Albania, Ukraine, Belarus, Myanmar, Peru, El Salvador, Ecuador, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic.

Canada

The USANA Foundation continues to make an impact for struggling indigenous families in Canada through our partnership with Canadian Feed the Children. This year we issued a grant of $32,192 that provided over 70,000 meals to 2,500 people and garden resources to 63 families in four different areas: Esgenôpetitj First Nation, Birch Narrows Dene Nation, Turnor Lake, and Lubicon Lake Band.

China

In 2015, through cooperation with China Rural Development Foundation (CRDF) the USANA Foundation began providing aid in China. By the end of 2022, the total donations we’ve recieved from USANA BabyCare, Associates, and other public welfare channels reached $3,859,765.

Apart from our many projects in China, last year we helped establish the Village Angel Initiative. Our objective is to improve the conditions of rural medical facilities and equipment in underdeveloped areas, support rural doctors, improve the quality of rural medical services, popularize health knowledge, and provide more dependable health protection for rural communities. We donated approximately $148,000 to this project. Our donation provided 126 medical kits to 128 village clinics and doctors in the Langao County of Shaanxi Province. On January 9, we held an opening ceremony for this initiative and received the endorsement of the CRDF, Shaanxi Provincial Rural Revitalization Bureau, and local governments.

Australia

For over five years, the USANA Foundation has partnered with Foodbank Australia to support their Key Staples Program. A Foundation grant of $21,814 enabled Foodbank to source enough food to distribute 60,000 meals across vulnerable communities in Australia through their community-driven network of 2,950 frontline charities.

In September 2022, we also helped establish Garden Towers at our Australia offices.

New Zealand

New Zealand has a population of approximately five million people. Although it’s not one of the most populous countries, poverty still exists. Significant economic restructuring in the 1980s led to prosperity for some and poverty for others. Currently one in five New Zealanders experience food insecurity—16% living in poverty, affecting more than 20% of New Zealand’s children.

Thankfully, New Zealand has a few generous charities that continuously reach out to those in need. And we know charities succeed with the support of others, which is why KidsCan appreciates the USANA Foundation. Together since 2015, we’ve been helping at-risk Kiwi children thrive. Your generous donations have helped us give over $100,000 to ensure these kids get their critical needs met and bellies full so they can gain the most from their education.

USANA New Zealand employees and Associates also strive to make a difference. They are a small, but enthusiastic team. Eager to expand the Garden Tower Initiative, they’ve jumped in to fund and develop it for local charities.

They reached out to the community for help planting 14 Garden Towers, and Bunnings Warehouse (a local home and garden shop) graciously donated needed supplies. To top it off, the local supermarket stepped up to bring lunch to all the hard-working volunteers. One particular day the team planted through continuous rain, covered in mud, surrounded by delighted kindergarten children. Momentous, to say the least, for all involved.

USANA New Zealand plans to do even more in 2023. Currently KidsCan delivers food in over 900 schools and Kindergartens (49,000 meals every day across the island). The City Mission provides 97,000 food parcels to Aucklanders alone. A lot of this food is preserved or processed. And although any food is better than no food, teaching people to grow Garden Towers to eat healthy will create lasting, positive habits.

Philippines

With the help of dozens of Associates and our long-time partner, Project Pearls, the USANA Foundation embarked on one of its most ambitious Garden Tower launches.

In 2013, over 500 Project Pearls families were relocated from the slum community of Ulingan at Tondo, Manila to a government housing center in Bulacan, north of Metro Manila. Although these families now have much-needed homes, they lack employment opportunities and often return to the slums—despite the unhealthy conditions—to earn an income. Project Pearls seeks to address this issue by tackling extreme poverty, lack of job skills, lack of existing livelihood opportunities, and food insecurity.

With the introduction of USANA Garden Towers, families have gained food security with just a little bit of water and sunlight. The USANA Foundation worked with Project Pearls to help women make additional income assembling the fabric used for the Garden Towers. This funded five new industrial sewing machines, repair and maintenance supplies, and training. Once sewn, they are distributed to other partners and Associates to build towers in their communities. Our goal is to build 3,000 Garden Towers, and we hope to hit it in the next few months.

Singapore

For the past few years, A Packet of Rice has worked with several individuals, groups, and companies as part of their corporate social responsibility events. USANA Associate Fabien Ghys spearheaded a USANA Foundation matching grant fundraiser with his team to deliver food to the elderly shut-ins in Singapore. As with all USANA Foundation matching grants, his final donation goal was doubled to make an even greater impact.

Once the funds were raised, 23 Associates boxed up the meals and spent hours climbing what seemed like endless stairways to 230 households with these heavy boxes of food. In all, they helped 320 elderly people receive 1,200 meals.

Malaysia

During World Service Week, USANA Malaysia partnered with Suriana Welfare Society to provide $20,000 of supplemental grocery items to 1,000 families.

USANA Malaysia also gathered about a dozen Associates and employees to build their first Garden Towers. This inspired USANA leaders to take initiative and go into their communities to build Garden Towers themselves. Lucas Lim and Jane Leow worked with their Happiness Team to build more than 35 towers and are looking forward to many more in 2023.

Thanks to our continuous partnership with Operation Underground Railroad, we are deeply involved in helping to give food and nutrition to survivors recovering from the trauma of human trafficking. And now, these survivors are healing through sustainable gardening. USANA Garden Towers are being established at aftercare homes all over the world. You’ll find 60 of them in Malaysia, producing over 78,000 meals in just the first year! Our latest aftercare home, Damansara Women’s Home, will receive key food items to help nourish 60 women as their Garden Towers grow.

France

In 2022, Kheira from the Association AncrAges embarked on a new Garden Tower pilot project in the region of Lorraine, France—one of the poorest in the country where the government places much of its support and focus.

Three Garden Towers were built in a school to spread awareness for sustainable programs. And an "Educational Vegetable Garden" has been created for the families in the community. The project caught the attention of the mayor who attended a launch event with Associates and other leaders in the community. They spent the day building 34 more Garden Towers in the communities surrounding Geneva, Annemasse, Valleiry, Neydens, and SaintJulien-en-Genevois.

So far, the Garden Towers established in France will provide 174,200 meals for families in these communities. And we’re looking forward to many more in 2023.

Indonesia

Always excited to participate in World Service Week, this year’s project for Indonesia was expanded to include Garden Towers for four villages—Bubulak, Ciherang, Situgede, and Babakan. Following which, a health check was performed for residents of the Babakan.

USANA Ambassadors, Shahnaz Haque and Ditta Intan Carlany, shared health education with children and adults in the villages. USANA volunteers in attendance helped children plant vegetable seeds prepared by the IPB University Team using recycled USANA product bottles. At the end of the event, the USANA Foundation gave 60 goodie bags to children in the Babakan Village.

Korea

USANA Associates and employees collaborated with Korean Food for Hungry International to spearhead a Happy Sharing

Day to share boxes of food and written letters of encouragement with 500 children in nine cities. Each box contained 13 food items, along with USANA product, to help fill the bellies of some of Korea’s most vulnerable children.

Hong Kong

In 2021, employees and Associates in Hong Kong raised $78,000 for food for some of its most struggling communities. In 2022, they shot for an even higher goal of $100,000. Not only did they achieve it, but the USANA Foundation matched this donation to double the impact to $200,000!

Working with Angel Food Rescue and Assistance Program, they used their own kitchen to create over 16,000 healthy food meal boxes and deliver them to elderly members of the community.

In 2022, the USANA Foundation team and volunteers traveled to Baja, Mexico. For one week, we distributed food bags to families, served the Foundation for His Ministry and other local charities, built Garden Towers for communities, and helped with many other food-centered, sustainable projects.
