The struggles of planning a wedding during recent events have been real for all of us, but the excitement for the future is right around the corner. I have found that this association has some of the best members and businesses to help you through all of these challenges. Planning and executing events with these top tier vendors will truly make your dream day happen. It’s what we do! Personally, it is my hope that the resources you find through My Montana Wedding will help make your special day happen. Here are a few suggestions from my experience in the industry: 1. Plan to adjust: Having a good plan and setting goals are great, but if recent events have taught us anything, we also need to be flexible. Plan to have backup plans to help take the stress out of everything needing to be perfect. Plan to have the best event possible, not a perfect event. 2. Start early: You know the old saying ‘the early bird gets the worm.’ Finding that amazing venue, the best food, awesome entertainment; your chances are higher when you give yourself time to plan ahead. Time is precious when it comes to planning. Give yourself time to weigh options and discover new information—this can elevate not only your experience, but also for your guests. 3. Finally, enjoy the journey: If you only spend time focused on the goal you might miss the fun and connections you make along the way. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. This also rings true when it comes to planning such a big day. Have fun talking with your family and friends about your planning experience, make mistakes, ask the funny or weird questions, and not only will you enjoy the day of the event, but the small steps it took to get there. I sometimes forget to look around the Flathead Valley and truly appreciate the talented people who live here and make people’s dreams come true all year long. Most of us are so focused on each customer’s experience that we pour our hearts and souls into every event. It is my hope that your involvement with the many professionals of My Montana Wedding exemplifies this experience and your dreams become a reality. “Coming from a small southern town, weddings like ours are not seen often. Most are very elaborate with a lengthy guest list and usually eight to ten bridesmaids and groomsmen. A lot of stress and tears behind it all. Tyler and I planned on following suit, having a wedding with 200 guests at my grandmother’s house, and planning every detail. I knew all that planning was just not for me. We joked about an elopement, and said ‘Well if we do go somewhere, where would we want to go?’ We quickly decided on the west. We decided to go through with an elopement right before covid shut down the country, making our original plans sound impossible anyway. We were able to focus only on ourselves, soaking in every tiny moment. Back home, we had a reception in September filled with the busy, chaotic hustle and bustle to appease our family members. We hardly spoke to one another, and the night was over after the blink of an eye. It solidified our thoughts on how happy we were to have eloped.” 8

“We wrote our own vows, and our ceremony was just us. It just felt so authentically us. Hanging from my bouquet were pictures of my mama and my late pup, and it felt like they were right there with me. Alex was such a good sport for all the pictures, and I really can’t imagine anything different! My advice for other couples is do it your way! I’m all about tributes to family members or honoring your family in special ways, but don’t do things that you’re not into because of everyone else! You want to think back on the day and smile. It should be easy, fun, authentic, and it should be something the two of you will always remember with sweet, happy thoughts.”

“AJ and I met through mutual friends during our junior year of college. I was immediately drawn to his sense of humor and the way he always seemed to be the life of the party. He was never shy about sharing his feelings for me from the very beginning. Before I knew it, I was meeting his family and he was calling me his girlfriend. He introduced me to Montana, hiking, snowboarding, camping and I loved every second of it. Two years and ten days later, we got married just outside of our favorite national park, Glacier National Park! I think the best part of our wedding was that it was a destination wedding, so our guests were able to make a mini vacation out of it. I loved being able to introduce my family and friends to the same place I fell in love with several years ago when AJ took me there for the first time.” 16

“We met in our senior year in the osha program at Montana Tech. Dan likes to joke that he had to ask me out three times before I said yes! We decided to take a three week trip to Spain after only dating a few months to spend some time together before Dan moved to California. We had so much fun, tried new things, went parasailing at sunset, and made it through our first international vacation where neither of us could speak the language. We didn’t have a single fight. On that trip we knew we wanted to spend our lives together. Dan proposed two years later in Paris on a private balcony with a perfect Eiffel Tower view. It was perfect and everything I had ever dreamed of!

We had one of the largest wedding parties I’ve ever seen! That made for some crazy fun photos. We wanted the day to be a fun celebration for everyone involved—no drama, no stress, just fun, which is why we chose Whitefish Mountain Resort. From beginning to end it was an experience. Dan and I love to host and have a good time with our friends and family, and we didn’t want our wedding to feel stuffy or boring. We wanted a wedding that would have everyone dancing and celebrating until the end of the night. We also had glitter and sequins everywhere, which looks pretty sweet at the top of a mountain!”

“We met while working as registered nurses in Kalispell where we were introduced by our mutual friend and co-worker. After our first date things just clicked. Austin thinks he fell in love as soon as I ordered an ipa on our first date. I knew he was someone special when I brought him home for Easter to meet my entire family after dating for three weeks and he didn’t run in the other direction. We understood each other and shared a lot of similar goals. We were fortunate enough to be able to start travel nursing together in 2018. We packed up our two dogs, adventured and worked around the western u.s. while living in our camper. We always joke that sharing a 150 square foot living space was our premarital counseling. We are a team and are excited to do life together forever.

We really wanted to keep our decor simple to highlight the beauty of Montana surrounding us. We collected beer growlers from all the different locations we have worked as travel nurses to use them as centerpieces on our big day. We also had custom coasters made featuring our two fur babies who couldn’t be with us, just to make sure they were there in spirit.” “Molly’s dad had a 1980 Ford f-150 that he handed over to me to restore. The truck’s name is Henry, and he was parked behind the audience during our ceremony. It was such a fun conversation piece for everyone. This truck sat in her dad’s backyard for 12 years without running, and has been part of their family for a long time. I got the truck running and overhauled so it could be at our wedding. While it’s not fully restored yet, it was fun to take pictures in and around on the big day.”

“Aside from our delicious cakes from Fleur Bakery, our family helped us with every aspect of the wedding from catering, hair and makeup, flowers, music, and even officiating! The wedding included only our immediate family as we wanted it to be an intimate ceremony out in nature. We both love traveling, hiking, and experiencing the beauty of Earth. Once we decided to get married in a new place, Glacier National Park was an easy decision. While we explored Whitefish and Glacier during our wedding week, we listened to a playlist of songs that had meaning to us throughout our relationship. Your wedding is a celebration of the love between you and your spouse, so don’t let the tiny details distract you. Make sure to include the beauty of Montana in your photos, because you could be wearing a trash bag and the photos will still be amazing!” 30

“We technically met in middle school in our hometown of Kalispell, Montana. We went to high school together as well, where we had classes together and were involved in a lot of the same activities. Though we shared many of the same friends, we did not really get to know each other in school. About five years later, Adam reached out via Instagram to ask what I was up to after seeing a photo of me from a class architecture trip. We started messaging back and forth and then had our first phone call, which lasted over three hours. Adam was working in Minneapolis at the time, while I was in grad school in Bozeman. I ended up flying to Minneapolis for a weekend and it was like we just continued our long phone

conversation. After that weekend, we both knew we had found who we were looking for all along. We loved having a winter wedding and honoring both of our families’ heritage with a traditional Catholic mass for the ceremony. On top of that, all of our vendors were amazing. We both love to dance, so being able to dance the night away to country music and oldies was perfect! Desoto Grill set out late night mac and cheese as a snack, which may have been one of the best decisions we made. Snowline as a venue was magical! Overall, our loved ones made the day so incredibly special.”

“Jordan and I met in March of 2016. I just happened to like a fishing picture he had taken and messaged him asking where he had caught it. At the time, Jordan and I lived almost seven hours apart. We spent the next few months talking. We officially met when he came to visit the Flathead Valley. Our first date was spent in Glacier National Park. Jordan and I both share a love for nature and have a strong sense of adventure. It was the only place we truly felt at home and it was where we found our love for one another. There was no doubt in our minds that we envisioned our ceremony spot tucked away somewhere in the heart of Glacier National Park. We wanted to promise forever in the same place our love story began.”

Fall Nuptials at Star Meadows Ranch
Star Meadows Ranch is a beautiful venue nestled in the Salish Mountains in Whitefish. Their gorgeous new pavilion is the perfect location to celebrate with friends and family and was the focal point for this colorful, vintage inspiration shoot. Of all the beautiful details, the flower basket was by far our most favorite. We wanted to think outside of the box a bit and decided a vintage basket filled with colorful flowers and a flowing ribbon would be perfect! It paired perfectly with the details of the dress, too. Thank you to all of the amazing Flathead Valley vendors who made this shoot possible!

“Isaac and I met at Stillwater high school. Our siblings were friends and they constantly tried to get us together. After dating and breaking up a few times, we decided we didn’t want to do life without each other. Sarah Gasbarro basically made our wedding! “We met on Tinder, where we found out we had 40 mutual friends and went to high school together and didn’t know it. Our first date was at Disneyland, where we knew we had found our complementary other halves. We knew it was love after a backpacking trip to summit Mount Whitney in the Sierras. We both love the outdoors and spending time in nature. We knew we wanted a winter wedding and could not think of a better location than the beauty of Montana. Emily is an old fashioned romantic girl at heart and the theme of the wedding was vintage romance in the snow. We wanted to show our family and friends a part of the country that had captured our hearts and this was our way to have our loved ones relax, unplug, and enjoy the fresh mountain air. We marked our tables with

Disney characters to incorporate how we first met. Instead of place setting favors, we wrote letters to all our guests, letting them know how much we love and appreciate them. If we had one piece of advice, it would be to hire a wedding planner! Our primary residence is out of state, but we have a family home in Marion which made traveling to venues and tastings much easier. I cannot express how helpful Lynn and Capella were from Empress Tents and Events. Unfortunately, we had to switch venues four months out and Lynn swooped in to the rescue. We even made the decision to switch the ceremony site days before the event, due to a lack of snowy weather. Lynn coordinated with Grouse Mountain Lodge to have our ceremony on the side lawn and the reception at Diamond B!”

“When we started brainstorming about what was important to us for our wedding, we agreed we wanted something intimate and low-key. We also both wanted to get married somewhere beautiful. We got engaged in the Smoky Mountains, so it was only fitting that we ended up choosing the Rockies for our wedding. Our plan was to have an intimate wedding with our family but like many others, we had to change our plans because of the pandemic. Instead, we decided to keep our original wedding date and elope!

We rented an RV and drove from our home in Nashville, Tennessee to Montana making stops along the way in Kansas City, Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Livingston, and many other roadside attractions. It was the perfect elopement road trip adventure! Although we really missed our family, we were thankful we were able to be really present and just focus on each other on our big day. Glacier National Park took our breath away and we are so glad we chose to exchange our vows in such a magical place!”

“Working in the small world of the mining industry, we were bound to meet. Once we did, the rest was history. Every detail in our wedding had meaning and was put together with the help of our family and friends. After we got engaged on Flathead Lake, we were riding in the boat up the river and saw Diamond B and called them right away to schedule a booking. My mom made all of the flower arrangements, my dad roasted the pig, and my mother-in-law helped with the decorations and the connections with the local Montana vendors. It was really important to us to have our families and friends involved.

The primary flower we used was the sunflower which means strength and loyalty. Even though my mom and mother-inlaw wanted to add other flowers, I was adamant about keeping the sunflower the only flower other than greens to make sure it stood out. Mike’s friends from college played the music at the wedding and had everyone dancing and singing along. During the ceremony, we had a bagpiper who had also played at Michael’s late sister’s funeral. He did an incredible job and made it extremely special for the whole family. The entire day turned out perfectly, with so much love shared by everyone.”

“I thank my lucky stars I found our photographer, Leah. She had an elopement package that included flowers, video, and an officiant! I called my godmother, Aidan, one of the last few people who has a residency on Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. I have been going to the cabin since I was a kid and I was lucky enough to bring Josh the last couple summers. It was the perfect spot. I always knew I wanted a winter wedding, there is just something so romantic and dreamy about it! It was really difficult not having our family and friends with us, but we knew we would celebrate at a later date with them. It was a flawless, effortless day filled with so much love. Truly a blessing in disguise!”

“Ryan and I met at a friend’s BBQ in 2015. We immediately sparked up a conversation about our mutual love for motorcycles, specifically, Harley-Davidsons. We were from out of town and life was so chaotic, so I hired a wedding planner – best decision ever! Our wedding was the wedding of our dreams! We wanted something small and intimate so we could really have time with our guests and those closest to us. We wanted to make it as isolated as we could, while also being able to lodge on the property and include our best man, (our dog, Tony) in our wedding. Everyone stayed at the lodge, and we were able to hang out for the days before and after the wedding. It was such a great week with our family and friends! Our wedding was unique because it was not your typical wedding atmosphere. We didn’t have a DJ, or a dance floor. We had cornhole, table Jenga, and a playlist with our favorite music playing in the background. It was more like a family BBQ, which was exactly what we wanted.” 74

“Our story began seven years ago when Garrett and I met in college at the University of Montana in Missoula. Garrett had already been attending the university for a year (originally from Kennewick, Washington), and I had transferred from a college back home in Las Vegas, Nevada. We crossed paths while working in Resident Life together. From there, we fell in love. Garrett proposed in May of 2019 at my favorite place in the whole world - Zion National Park. It was a complete surprise. While I had gone camping with my family, Garrett was supposedly “working”, but he drove over and popped the question at the end of one of our hikes. Most of our family and friends had never been to Montana before, so getting married over a holiday weekend gave us a

chance to spend more time together. We wanted everyone to be able to explore Glacier National Park, the mountains, and everything Montana has to offer. We wanted our guests to see why we fell in love with Montana. Our wedding had all of Montana’s favorites, such as huckleberry flavors, Montana brews, and the great outdoors at our venue, Mountainside Weddings! Even though we don’t live there anymore, our hearts will always be in Montana. When choosing your vendors, ask for suggestions! “Whitefish is a small town, so everyone knows of everyone else. Harris and I knew of each other, and we met in passing a few times. I had a huge crush on him even though I did not really know anything about him. One day I went to Fleur Bake Shop to get a coffee and cookie. Little did I know that Harris was working at the bakery at the time. When he saw me walk in, he came running from the back kitchen to say hi to me. I got so nervous, I blurted out ‘cookie and coffee please’ then walked away to pay. He awkwardly informed me he could not take my order since he was the bread baker and that he just wanted to say hi. He walked away totally defeated, and I left the shop mortified. Little did I know that he was actually trying to flirt with me, and he thought that I was shutting him down because I wasn’t interested in him! To this day we joke about it.

There were a lot of things we did to make our wedding special to us. First, we spent the days leading up to the wedding with our family, since we rarely are all together. At the wedding, there was meaning behind everything, even the fact that we chose a winter wedding. Winter in Montana can be challenging. There are weeks you don’t see the sun, days you can’t go outside without losing feeling in your toes, and times you just wish for summer. But, if you stick it out, you are rewarded with days of amazing snow and a bright blue sunny sky, and you are reminded of why you love winter. Winter felt like the perfect metaphor for marriage— challenging at times, but worth every cloudy day. That is why we had our ceremony outside during winter. We tried to make each guest feel welcome and comfortable. We provided them with Pendleton blankets to keep warm during the ceremony, and take home with them to remember the special day.”
