Personally, I was looking to begin my Masters of Engineering while continuing to work full time, and my attraction to UTS was the renowned Engineering and Technology faculties. I was also playing AFL with the UTS affiliated AFL club UTS Bats AFC, following some research into the Elite Athlete Program it was a logical decision to apply and take advantage of the many benefits that it had to offer.

I moved to Sydney to study a Bachelor of Communications (Media Arts and Production) at UTS from a small rural town in the Riverina where the option of Women’s AFL wasn’t available. Excited and optimistic about the game, I jumped at the opportunity to play for UTS Shamrocks AFC and quickly gained fitness, skills and many new friends.

The program has provided financial assistance and if required extra tutoring and flexibility for subject assessments to fit in with my work, sport and academic pursuits. The UTS Bats AFC also offers a talented player’s scholarship program (TPSP), for students who are playing AFL with the club.

I was informed about the Elite Athlete Program (EAP) and applied knowing the financial assistance, study aid and gym membership would benefit both my studies and my sporting commitments greatly. The EAP allowed me to continue my enjoyment of AFL in the UTS Shamrocks AFC without the worry of my studies being impacted.

I’m excited to continue my studies with UTS and to continue to play AFL with the UTS Bats AFC. If you are looking to complete tertiary studies while also playing AFL at a high level then UTS and the UTS Bats AFC are the perfect fit.

The UTS Shamrocks AFC are welcoming of all new players in both our Premiers Division and Division One teams. I highly recommend the UTS Shamrocks AFC as a great way of meeting new people while gaining amazing fitness and skills in Women’s AFL.
